Really good Persian food. Better than the restaurants in the Gaslamp

Really good food. I got take out. It’a a little hidden in the back of a shopping mall. I had the shirin polo with chicken kabob. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The rice was fagrant. I also had the tadig with gormeh sabhzi. Crunchy and yummy. Reccommend it.

4 Stars? Do people not have any taste buds? Overall, this place was overrated. Food was very one dimensional such that we couldn’t taste a lot of flavors. 1. Service: Not so great. This place wasn’t even busy! After ordering our food, we received the flat bread with butter immediately. While we were waiting for our food to arrive, it took us 5 to 10 minutes to receive our water. 2. Food: Both Chicken Barg and Chicken Kabob was cooked perfect. Very juicy. The«Filet Mignon» skewer was not great. I don’t think the meat is Filet Mignon at all since it was chewy. Lamb Shank was very blah. The only taste we noticed was the tomato sauce it was cooked in. Bonus point: Fresh greens. No limp vegetables.

Their belly dancing show on friday nights that is advertised to be at 7:30(for which we made reservations), started at 7:!5 and ended at 7:25. Needless to say, we didn’t stay to try the food.

wow… this is an interesting review to write. Through a set of convoluted circumstances, I ended up here with a friend. suffice it to say, this wasn’t our first choice, but it was the nearest place open for lunch after my friend and I found our first choice closed. and btw, I did look at this restaurant on Unilocal before eating taking the dive. Anyway, we walk in, and we’re the only two patrons… not too surprising since it was late for lunch, early for dinner. Things started out ok, they brought use menus, poured us water, and even brought out bread! But then the service went downhill. We needed extra time to order, and the waiter took about 15 minutes to come back… mind you we are STILL the only two patrons in the restaurant. I had ordered an appetizer and that came out ok(more on that later). But in the meantime, we wanted some lemon to put on food and in water… and for that matter we wanted more water. At this point, the waiter was barely to be seen, so I grabbed lemons on my own from behind the bar, and brought over the pitcher of water and a glass for myself. At least I got to pick a style of glass that I like. So…service was at least a tad horrendous. but the food was actually quite decent here! which is the only reason this place is getting more than two stars. I had the homemade doogh, a yogurt based drink, and I liked it a lot. I also tried some appetizer that had eggplant mixed with garlic and some other stuff… I forgot the name. That was also tasty, The main course was the cornish hen dish. The rice was a bit bland, but the meat was pretty well marinated, and cooked crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back here, because I don’t live anywhere near Rancho Bernardo, but I have to say the food isn’t bad. If I’m every up here again, I’ll definitely give this place a thought… hoping that our poor service was a fluke.

A solid experience. I’ve been here maybe a dozen times in the last two years. The food is always good but is sometimes quirky. The lamb was ok. The adas pollo is good. The gyros can be good, but can be a bit dry if you’re the first to order it in a while. The chicken barg is amazing. They serve two kinds of bread, one is great and one is best used as simply a dining utensil. My biggest deterrent to return trips is the wait. A takeout order of chicken soltani for a late lunch during off-peak hours has taken well over 30 minutes before.

Been here twice. My employer took me out to celebrate his website I made for him. Its a hidden gem. I never new it even existed there. The inside is nice and clean, pretty big, good for groups or a romantic dinner for two. Our waitress is very nice and always there. She makes sure you feel welcome and checks up on you often. She’s pretty funny too. The food was great. I had some kind of Kabob with rice. The rice is not so tasty but the chicken and lamb is very good. I tried there Persian ice tea. It was good in the beginning, very strong but later that day I had a bad stomach ache! So be careful! The lentil soup is delicious! Would dine again.

I had a real basic meai to go: The Koobideh Combo. It consisted of a chicken kabob, a beef kabob, a grilled tomato, some flat bread, and some of the tastiest, fluffiest rice I have ever had. I am definitely interested in dining in soon and trying other items. I will have to update this review once I do.

Some of the best food I’ve had in a while! Great lunch specials. My favorite is the Chicken Shish Kabob — I don’t know how they pack so much flavor into plain ol’ Chicken, but they do! The grilled veggies hit the spot and the rice is so fluffy and tasty. The portions are HUGE, I can’t finish the entire plate!

I guess if you have a choice of mexican, mexican, mexican and chain, Star of Persia isn’t so bad. It was a warm summer night so we chose to sit outside in the patio in the back. They led us to a crappy plastic patio table that was filthy and covered in dirt. We asked if they could wipe it down because oh we might want to eat food from the top of that table. They kind of stared at the dirt and said«Oh, it’s from the tree.» Well that’s fine. I understand this is the outdoors but wipe it from time to time please. They didn’t do a thorough job but it was slightly better. I ordered the Lubia Polo, which is supposed to be a vegetarian rice dish made with green beans and tomatoes. This one is served with Koobideh Kabob — ground beef formed into long kabobs and grilled. Not bad, I enjoy that it served some of the more traditional Persian rice dishes, even if it was on the oily side. Also came with a side of Shirazi salad — a refreshing dish of cucumbers, tomatoes, and red onions. He ordered the Chicken Koobideh. It was dry and not as flavorful as others I’ve had. Soda served in cans, not from a fountain. Poor service. Decent food.

It took a while to find this place, as it’s buried in the back of a giant shopping center in the midst of Rancho Bernardo, but it’s well worth it! I went to check out this place based solely on Unilocal reviews(needed somewhere in the area to meet up with friends midway) and you all didn’t disappoint. I love myself some good Greek/Mediterranean food and I loved every bite I ate at Star of Persia. I think they put crack in the basmati rice ’cause it’s seriously the best I’ve ever had. And I had a giant pile of it on my plate and I ate every last bite! YUM! I ordered the chicken kabob plate and the chicken was so delicious; great flavor, great taste, great portion size(a lot!). The mister had lamb and loved it as well. Can’t remember what our friends ordered(I’m a bit self-involved when it comes to my food) but I know they liked it. The bread they serve at the beginning is so yummy. Not traditional pita, more like a lavash bread, and definitely good. Wish there was some sort of dipping sauce that came with it and not just plain butter packets, but it’s still tasty. Service wasn’t fabulous the night we were there, but it was a weeknight and there was a large, rowdy party taking up most of the one waiter’s and one waitress’s(also the owner) time. They were very nice, but slow with the drinks and the check and we had to flag someone down to get refills. But I think it was just an unusually busy night for them. I’d definitely recommend and will definitely be eating here again!

This place is so yummy. The lunch portions are perfect and priced great. I have been coming here for years, even when it was the Kabob house. Their meats are so tender with lots of flavor. Sometimes the chicken is over cooked and dry but the flavor is still so good. I think it’s marinated in yogurt… mmmm. Bread with butter and small pieces of sweet onion topped off with Sumac is so great to munch on before the meal comes as well. This place is also great for catering for 25+ people or more. We have used them about 4 times and have always enjoyed it. The left overs are even better the next day. I highly recommend this place. And say«HI» to Leila when ya walk in.

YUMMY! I was craving Greek food on a Sunday when I stumbled across the Star of Persia. Although this place is listed as Persian food, mostly Kabobs and hummus, they had some traditional Greek items as well. .so anyways, the hubby and I traveled here for lunch, which is near Round Table Pizza in RB. We had the gyros plate, which consists of gyros meat, basmati rice, warm pita bread with Tzatziki sauce, and salad. It was HUGE, so much food, we could have just shared one meal. We ended up taking leftovers home and eating literally a second meal with them. The quality of food was really good. Everything was hot and tasty, no let downs at all. Although we weren’t there for the lunch special price, it still wasn’t too bad for the amount of food you get, the gyros meal is about $ 12. The service was good, there was only us and one another couple eating around noon on Sunday. The restaurant itself is small, but nice décor inside, touches of fancy but not to much, with a romantic feel. The have wine as well. I would highly recommend this place for a date night. And also for that occasional lunch craving for Mediterranean food.

Fantastic! We ate lunch here twice within a week of discovering it. Lots of flavorful, comically difficult-to-pronounce dishes, with soup and communal baskets of decent bread. Nicer ambiance than you’d suspect from the street, and surprisingly affordable. Recommended.

This was the first time I’ve had Persian food in a long time and I was excited to try a new Persian place. I doubt I will wait too long to have Persian food again because this place is awesome and I will be coming back! I played it safe and ordered the boneless chicken kabob, which is marinated in saffron, lemon juice, and other scrumptious things. Even though it is a simple dish, I was very pleased. The kabob was very tender and delicious. The basmati rice was also extraordinarily good. I haven’t had rice that tasted that delectable in a long time. Oh, and the portions are BIG, which is a major plus for me. I can’t wait to try something more exotic next time. My friend ordered the salmon kabob and it looked amazing. She really liked all her food as well. The restaurant is small but nicely decorated, it looks very classy. The service is excellent, our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The prices are decent, especially considering how high quality the food is. Also, they have lunch specials on weekdays that are an even better deal. Highly recommended!

My fiancé and I went here for lunch today and I was quite pleased. There is another Persian place we live closer to in Ranch Bernardo, but this one far exceeds the competition. The place, itself, looks a lot smaller from the outside so I was quite pleased when we walked in. It had a large bar in the middle of the dining room and was pretty comfortable. Their lunch specials are excellent! They are reasonablu priced and accompanied with salad, soup, basmati rice, and pita bread. Most lunch entrees are $ 6 – 9. I really enjoyed the soup. I wish there was more of it! The salad had a citrus/lemon dressing that was light but provided such a great flavor. I ordered: Fesenjan: pomegranate and walnut stew with chicken and it had a nice sweetness. It a big portion that I had left overs. My fiancé ordered the boneless chicken kabob and he loved it. He let me have a bite and it was so moist and well-flavored! I highly recommend this place and I know I will be eating here frequently!

Went here for lunch, and it was DELICIOUS! We both had the lunch specials and we both opted for the stew. Both were made with lentils and in a thick, wonderful base. Mine also had filet mignon, and the other had an entire roasted eggplant swimming in it(it also came with veal, but we asked for it without). Both stews came with a house salad(and a tangy dressing) and seasoned basmati rice. The bread basket had a sampling of their homemade bread(yummy!). Even the water was yummy; it’s filtered water infused with fresh lemons and watermelon. Our total came out to $ 17, and we will definitely be back for more. Dinner is a little more expensive, but I imagine that the portions will be larger, not that our lunch wasn’t plenty satisfying.

I went with a group of friends and everyone seemed to enjoy their food. It’s a nice sit down atmosphere, but I also saw customers come in and grab stuff to go. I had a cornish hen kabob — and it was the whole hen, just cut up and skewered to delicious goodness. Served with a heaping mound of rice. Yum. I have to say the portions were pretty generous and there were a large selection of items on the menu. The service was also prompt and we regularly got our water glasses refilled(I was paying attention as I had a cough and needed large quantities of it) I would go back!
