This place is terrible. Ribs very fatty, bbq sauce is thin and watery, chicken was chewy. Overall terrible meal and a waste of money.

I agree, but that is easy to achieve if you know how to cook ribs.
The problem with the ribs is I could taste the «age» in them. They weren’t spoiled or anything but I could tell they were cooked a day or two ahead of time.
Potato salad… no good.
Fries…good.

Visited Breakfast August 23, 2015
Amazing food, fun atmosphere! If we lived in the region I guarantee this would be a regular dining place, lunch, dinner, and of course breakfast! This visit is a LONG one year since the last but the amazing food has NOT changed a bit!
In the review from last year I noted the Bloody Mary drinks — still marvelous, spicy, and flavorful!
On this visit we again chose to sit on the «side» patio outside form the main restaurant and enjoyed watching the people along Mission Blvd — great place to sit in the fresh air and enjoy all the great food and drink
Once again my wife had the Dave’s Special Scramble and loved it (again)
This year I tried the Pork’n the Morn’n and found it to be a new favorite!
Our daughter again had the kids pancake breakfast and destroyed it, even for it’s large size, which for her is unusual, as she is not much of a breakfast eater!
All I can say is that we will be back, again and again anytime we are in the San Diego area!

Ordered from here and the food was just gross. I had the tri tip sandwich and it smelled so gross. Waste of 34.00 I will never recommend this place to anyone. Husband got the blue burger and he didn’t care for it either. Fries were burnt. Salad was just crap.

BBQ sauce was horrible, the ribs were ok, but the sauce ruined them. We sat outside and were constantly fighting off the flies. All the cups were plastic and dirty, literally brown to black on the bottom. The family next to us was already there when we got there, and was still waiting for food by the time our food arrived, so they just got up and left. I was wishing I was them, at least they didn’t have to pay for that experience. I felt like I just threw that money away.

Amazing food and service our waiter was amazing. We came from Arizona and we will definitely be back some of the best pulled pork we have ever had. Keep up the great work and if you are near I definitely recommend going there. You will not be disappointed. They also give big portions.

I went for my first time today! It was amazing. The fries were so fresh and tasty. Also the pulled pork on the burger was great! The girl at the register was nice and friendly. I’m news to the area but some locals mentioned that the food upgraded.
The place is great and has some dope deals posted.

From the first impression we got it was a solid ma and pop bbq place. The place could use some maintenance, torn rusty barstools, chipped paint and old trim falling apart etc. But for me I can look past all that as long as the food is good. Service was ok and food came out in a decent amount of time. I got the Super Pig and it was awesome, buddy got the rack of ribs they were also very good (Super tender). His girlfriend got a burger and said it was decent. Great flavor, good amount of smoke and with the happy hour price very affordable. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM with this place is the damn flies. They gotta get this place sealed up better because the flies are relentless. Its hard 2 relax and enjoy the food with them all up in your face. Give this place a try but i suggest sitting in the back away from the flies.

Came here for a late dinner at approx 9 pm on a Friday night. There were plenty of tables. We opted to sit outside since it was a warm June might. Our server was friendly and perky. I ordered a tri tip sandwich with garlic fries and my husband ordered a pulled pork sandwich with salad. They were both delicious except my husband was pretty disappointed that both his sandwich and salad had opinions on them when he ordered them without. Oh well. Things were otherwise good.

Ordered 2 full racks of ribs. Our family barely finished a ¼ of one rack. BBQ sauce was horrible. Not sure if they make their own bbq sauce but any bottle of bbq sauce from a grocery would have been better. The ribs did off the bones. That was the only positive thing about the ribs. They tasted a little off and stale.
Onion rings and chicken wings were good. It’s safe to order anything that is fried here.

We decided to give Starkey’s a try for our monthly luncheon! Feeding 20 hungry people is not an easy task but they did it with a smile and attentive service! Love the local family owned feeling, food was amazing and plates were plentiful. Thanks Ryan and Rebecca!

Starkey’s is a hidden little bbq gem smoking up seriously tender baby back ribs and serving up teetering pulled pork and bbq chicken sandwiches. After soaking in the sun and surf as Mission Beach, this joint hit the spot. A few painted surfboards, a clean saltwater fish tank and a few odd interior color choices set the scene. Several craft beers are on tap, and margis and daquiris are available. For this area, the prices are more than reasonable. The service is on the slow side, but ya can’t help but leave happy with smoky ribs, slaw and huge onion rings slathered in mustard.
