This is the perfect combo! Tony is a great owner and smart since he started both a sushi and phở place! It’s perfect when my roommates and I want sushi and phở! It’s the closest sushi and phở to us, so it’s always our first go to! The sushi is fresh and tastes yummy and the phở tastes just as good as any other phở I’ve had! If your looking for a fast go to sushi or phở place where you never have to wait and have great phở/sushi this is the place. Not to mention most phở places done sell saki and this place does(saki bombs!) Thanks Tony for your great service to us! See you soon!

Very friendly customer service but that is where it ends. I ordered a sushi combination dish and the fish had a funny taste to it. It didn’t taste fresh at all. I will not be going back here. It’s unfortunate because it is walking distance from my home.

DONOTCOMEHERE. I am calling the board of health on these people as soon as I’m done writing this. I should have known when I didn’t see anyone in this joint. Noticed several tables were dirty, then as I looked around I noticed the place was very dirty… Seaweed was not fresh. Wasabi was obviously not fresh as half of it was brown. Rice was either over cooked or not cooked at all. I had to pull several bits out of my mouth. Picked ginger. And a GIANT ice cube in my water. I didn’t even drink it. Then I went into the bathroom… Looked around a little and was like yeah they definitely need to clean this place. And then, lo and behold, A GIANTDEADCOCKROACH!!! See photo. I should have used the toilet to vomit.

Some day in the future when we’re busy colonizing other planets there will be little places like this run by a robot that takes your orders, makes all the food, and serves it all to you with minimal small talk. Everything will be sliced and diced to perfection and all ingredients measured to specs and heated to perfection. But since the robot can’t process taste, that will be left up to the customer to add with spices and sauces on the tables to add to whatever was ordered. This place is a bit like that — the guy running the place isn’t a robot, of course, but it was entertaining to see him run around and perform all the tasks it usually takes four of five folks to do in a regular restaurant. I guess he saves on labor and that is mostly how he stays afloat as there weren’t a lot of customers and there never seem to be any all the times I’ve walked past. But since it’s a one man show the slow amount of business works perfectly — one or two tables at most and when those customers leave a trickle of new ones arrive. Most of the bad reviews are probably from the times when there were more than 3 or 4 tables and the one man show was straining to keep the orders coming at a pace to please all customers. So if you see the place packed — walk away and come back later. The food itself is ok. I had the rare steak Phở and it wasn’t bad it just wasn’t the tastiest Phở I’ve ever had. Also ordered the dynamite seafood roll(something like that — can’t remember the exact name) and it was adequate. The sushi roll itself was a hurried job and probably wouldn’t fit exactly into a round hole as a round peg like it would in most Japanese pricey sushi places with sushi masters with decades’ worth of experience where they’re anal about that kind of detail but it was close enough for my taste and mood at the moment. It’s really the only other Asian restaurant in the Midway Towne Centre other than Natural Style Chicken and sometimes you just want to do all your business in the same mall. And when eating Phở is one of those things, this place is adequate enough so I don’t have to drive to one of the other places in the neighborhood — Phở Little Saigon, Phở Point Loma, or The Phở Shop. That said all they have that is Vietnamese is pretty much Phở — if you want Bun or broken rice or whatever else you’d better go to one of the other places as this is strictly Phở and sushi. I wouldn’t come here just for sushi though. Located in the Midway Towne Center between Wahoo’s and Gaglione Brothers. Lots of parking in this mall. As always, your mileage may vary.

Awesome phở and sushi! I’ve been eating sushi there for over 15 years. Tony is a great owner and will gladly prepare anything you want.

The Phở is amazing! The value is stupendous. The onwer is the coolest ever… Before I moved to East County, I ate here 5+ times a week.

We came here the other night and I ordered a basic cali roll. Though many, the pieces were very small, warm, and bland. Extremely disappointed. The owner was a gem. My family enjoyed the Phở.

The food is amazing. The owner is so attentive, generous, fair and humble. I love this place so much because the food is fantastic, generous portions, not heavy and the prices are fantastic. Really no other better place for phở in SD or The OC!

Really good food & chill atmosphere. It wasn’t crazy busy so we got our food pretty quickly and the server was really nice. Perfect place to stop for a yummy bite to eat.

Well, I guess we missed the $ 5 phở, but found the prices extremely friendly nonetheless. What others have said about the décor and the service(or lack thereof) is true, and the bathrooms didn’t inspire confidence. I would describe this as utilitarian. It’s a great place for you and your long-term partner to wear sweats to and bury your faces into bowls of life-restoring phở while not talking much and not being in a hurry to finish. I suspect that the outraged one-star reviewers probably were suffering from post-Sea World weltschmerz and unrealistic out-of-towner expectations. They have plum wine and green tea ice cream, too.

Don’t eat here. The low prices equate to low quality. Pretty much the equivalent to gas station sushi. I was sick for days.

If you have those sushi cravings on a budget or a good phở, this is the place. It’s not the best but it’s cheap. I got a sashimi plate with 10 pcs big chunks of yellowfin, salmon and albacore for 10 bucks, 8 pcs of eel roll for 6 $ and my boy got a 5 bucks phở. Do not expect too much though because there is only one server, plus the ambiance is like an office, but I don’t care one but as long as they satisfied my sushi cravings. I’d say I for my money’s worth.

I am reducing my score to 4-star because of the lack of consistency here. I have ordered and won and ordered and not been impressed. Their tempura is always a win. This place is worth a go.

This place is a dump. Found bugs in several of the soy sauce bottles and my son left to sit in the car he was so disgusted. The waiter guy was awful and i guess was the chief also since he disappeared for long periods of time. Asked us what drink we want … got the food then we had to ask him .‘our drinks pls’. First time ever i left a zero tip and showed the guy the bugs in the jars. I WOULDNEVERGOBACK. The guy did try at least to take care of the orders and cooking.

There are rare times when one would overlook unfinished décor, sad state of bathrooms, and occasionally have to wait to be waited on to give more than 2 stars. But let me explain a little. My boyfriend and I found this little gem about 6 months ago. I am new to San Diego and with so many places that serve phở, I wanted to find one better. I found it; we found it! And they serve sushi. Sounds too good to be true? Perhaps. Keep in mind this is a one-man show. He cooks, serves, cleans, etc. So yes, the wall lighting could use some sconces, and the bathrooms could use some TLC(and tp half the time), but why do we keep coming back? The phở!!! The broth is amazing! Not greasy, but full of flavor and clean. I love it so much that I practically pick up the bowl and drink every drop! Which has me rolling out the door because the portions are large with plenty of noodles and such. I have only ever gotten the rare steak phở(which is served on the side, which I LOVE), but my boyfriend has tried the extra large variety with ALL the options, as well as a few others. He really enjoys them all. And he always gets unagi nigiri; cuts are thick and the rice is good. I have also had the egg roll and the gyoza; pretty standard fare. And a bonus: if you want to watch something different, just ask. The guy will pretty much hand you the remote and let you choose(we came in wanting to watch a world cup match too)! We are here at least 2x a month for our«phở fix!!!» Tip: if you come in and don’t see someone right away, pick a table and wait. He will be right out and is super friendly! :)

The owner is extremely nice and the prices are very low. The phở is excellent and the service is excellent. I came back because the food was worth it and I like to support good people. I’d say share the love and help support this family. They are worth it. I guess what I am trying to say is that there are many options for good restaurants but I like to decide where my money is better spent. When I see a good honest hard working family, I feel better knowing my money is helping to support them. I’ll be back phở sure. Go in and see what I mean.

The owners were really nice but unfortunately the sushi wasn’t. I got a California roll and a spicy tuna roll for $ 3.50 each during a happy hour special. I’m not sure what I expected at that price but these rolls had so much rice I could barely taste anything else. I can’t even comment on the fish quality because of it. At least the rice wasn’t bad. After this experience I don’t think I care to find out what their regularly priced rolls and phở are like. There are too many other options in the area. I hate to say it, but I can get better sushi rolls at a grocery store.

I used to like going to this place since I’m just down the street. Giving this place 2 stars since I hate to leave such bad reviews especially if the worker is extremely nice, but this was our experience. so I came in one evening with the bf and my 8mo old. there was a table and a guy before us. ok so, got our orders taken after 5 mins.(btw no more $ 5 phở) he, being the only worker /owner, gave us 2 waters which had a huge chunk of ice cube. id say about 4 – 5 inches long. went near the bathrooms in the back to grab a highchair, honestly I was horrified and skeptical to put our daughter on what they had. they had a couple old dirty booster seats, and a rusty, rusty, old highchair that can be in a scary movie — not even exaggerating. We got our 2 number 3s(Rare steak, tendon, and tripe Phở) and a lemonade after 15 mins or so, both our phở had NO tendon NOR tripe, only a COUPLE pieces of rare steak. ._. I called the worker and before I even said anything he goes«oh yeah there is no more tendon or tripe, I will put more meat» instead I ask for meatballs. 5 mins later he brings in a couple cut up meatballs for me, ok how about my partner since we both had the same thing. Anyways on to the food, I had to add extra hoison(the dark sauce on the table) and sriracha for flavor. The noodles could of been cooked a little longer as well, they tasted bland and a bit hard in my opinion. Not even my hot soup was enough to make it more softer I guess you can say. Our total came out to be $ 18 something. $ 6.95 each for the Phở + lemonade came out to $ 18?! I am not coming back to this place any longer. If you are craving Phở and sushi I recommend trying a place that specializes in Phở and a place that specializes sushi, authenticity wise — if you know what I mean. Honestly in this case it is QUALITY over Quantity. There are many great places in San Diego for phở and sushi, although they may not serve both. Convoy, Clairemont, and east side area in my opinion has some of the best, and I’ve tried many. yes I know I am a fatty thank you.

Stopped in based on the great Unilocal reviews, and they are pretty accurate — definitely cheap — can’t beat $ 5 phở(their«Grand Opening» special). Today, they had daily special of $ 5 shrimp tempura roll, and $ 2 small beer or sake, too. It’s true that the interior is pretty dated, plain and a little shabby, but hey — prices are low. Tried my usual, the rare steak phở, and, I’m not sure if I like it quite as well as my 2 usual phở spots in OB and downtown, but hey — for a huge bowl of broth, noodles, steak, served w/fresh basil, bean sprouts and lime, all for just $ 5, I’d give it 4 stars for value.
