HUGE helpings! And wonderful service! We were here on a Saturday expecting to wait… but brought right back, we easily could’ve shared a platter but the piglet in us picked our own Imperial Shrimp(gianormous shrimp) smothered in yumminess! And Crispy Chicken outta this world! Authentic Chinese food yesss! My only concern was wherrre are the yummy crispy noodles??? They were here last time?? Always a yummy pre-course munchie! Great date night with the right waitress Christine waiting our table it was a perfect evening out!

This restaurant is expensive and food was not good. I will stick to Royal Mandarin in National City.

After moving to mission valley I missed my old Mandarin Chinese food, and came across this place on Unilocal. The reviews and pictures seemed like it was a good place to try. Overall the food wasn’t too bad but not as good as our old place. Plus the portion size wasn’t too big for the amount it cost. Again, it was bad trying for our first time but I don’t think we will order from here again. I would rather drive back down to Chula Vista for our normal Mandarin Chinese food. I’m giving it three stars for how expensive it is compare to how much you get.

I have been coming to this place for years. They make the best Chinese food in San Diego! Their walnut sweet shrimp is to die for. Crispy beef dish is amazing and I always have the sweet and sour soup. It’s family owned and they have a great wine list as well.

Best chinese food i have had in years. I am a huge fan of their kung pao chicken. Very different from most places i have been. This is the way it should always be! egg drop soup, crispy beef and hong kong noodles were top notch. I will def be back.

My family and I love it here! One bite of this stuff, and good luck trying to stop. One thing’s for sure, I always leave with a very happy belly. Do yourself a favor and go for the chicken wings appetizer and walnut shrimp. addicting! I tried a new cocktail last time I was here called The Fishbowl. I’ve encountered my fair share of cocktails, and I’ve never seen anything like it before. They also have their house special sangria(szechuan mangria), which I will be back shortly for. But if it’s anything like The Fishbowl, just take my money already! Delicious food, yummy drinks. They’ve got you covered!

I dine recently and had their salt n pepper shrimp n it was awesome. The shrimp was skinless n then batter to make it crunchy. I always look forward to this dish everytime I go there. I highly recommend this dish! And their service is terrific which is always a plus!

God. Awful. Yet lots of patronage. Takes all kinds of palates to make the world go retch. Literally had to fight the physical urge to purge. Sampler for two, Kung pao three kind and Kung pao steak. My recommendation: do not. However, the server was kind and understanding – yet still charged for food I could not swallow — saving grace, the Orange Mandarin that was recommended contained my money’s worth in alcohol — seriously I would’ve spent the same amount as I did on the food had I gone to Von’s and got a bottle. One star for getting me tipsy off one sip – the better to effectively neutralize my typical strong response to mediocrity …but seriously how can they serve this food with a straight face?

Don’t waste your time. Server was good and helpful. Very disappointed in the food. War wonton soup was a dismal failure. Main course awful and very greasy. Definitely off the list.

One star for the kind service. I hesitantly tried this by way of recommendation. The food was GODAWFUL. I usually use Unilocal to compliment good spots, not to diss the weak and meager. Total rip off, my food was disgusting. I got it to go and almost drove it all the way back. Owners feel free to respond, this place is GROSS!

Finally tried this place and took out Spicy Prawn and Scallop, and also Minced Chicken Lettuce Wraps. Both were nothing to write home about, but neither were outright awful. The flavors did not ‘pop’, and the ingredients in the Spicy Prawn and Scallop were not chopped as fine as they should be, there were also very few prawns, fewer scallops, and both were over cooked. Given the price of the items($ 30 out the door with rice), I expect better ingredients, preparation, and flavor. The helpings were large, but that does not mean anything to me. Service was good(for take out).

These guys were really good! Service was awesome and so was the food! Nice little cozy place off mission gorge. The owners were really nice and hard working. Nice atmosphere and the apple martini was good. They had a nice selection of alcoholic beverages and the food was exquisite.

Food is always consistent. It’s good and portions are right on. Décor and staff needs an improvement. Been coming here so long, just use to it by now. Most definitely will be returing for some won ton soup and super greasy but yummy egg rolls.

Bad customer service. The server was rude. Adequate food quality. My wife and I wanted to enjoy a night out and was truly disappointed. It truly deserves one star no more.

Pretty good, especially when I’m missing my old haunt Mandarin House(rip) we used to frequent in Bankers Hill. In a way it reminds me of the Mandarin House, a little out dated but it gives it character. We have been here a couple times now and I was a bit worried when we stopped by last time to see they were closed. Luckily only for renovations… which I did not notice any when we came in last night. Hmm. Last night we got what our usual and were pretty pleased. –Wor Wanton Soup(I usually have to add a little soy sauce at other places, not here though!) –Salt and Peppered Shrimp –Mandarin Sautéed Noodle with Chicken, Beef Shrimp & Veggies. –Black Bean Bass Filet(which was delicious) These four items were more than enough and had lunch to take to work the next day. On a hot day like yesterday, treat yourself to a couple of the Tropical specialty drinks like… the Zombie perhaps, cools you right off.

My family has been going to this restaurant for decades now and not once have we had a bad experience here. For as much time has passed, it’s amazing how the excellent quality and consistency of flavors have survived over the years. We usually order from the family menu with occasional a la carte ventures periodically. My personal favorite there is the Kung Pao Sea Bass. Of course, we never start a meal without their delicious rib appetizer. We’ve tried other Chinese restaurants over the years, usually when this one was closed, but keep returning here. I don’t remember how we found this place back when we lived in Talmadge, but we gladly travel across town now to experience it for our family’s little special occasions. We probably always will.

Lots of 5 Unilocal Stars at ZM. Our family over the years ordered many those items at this gem of a restaurant. We and friends, family been here many times. Some favorites… Sea food Pan Fried Noodles with fillet of fish, jumbo shrimp, big scallops. The seafoods always tasted fresh. And lots of it in this amazing dish. The pan fried noodles is enjoyed in both crispy and soft texture. So Delish. Amazingly Yum Crispy Beef. Calamari spicy salt. Braised Green beans Spicy salt. These are all heavenly. This is a family owned business. Same location I believe near 25 years. Presentation Serving dishes actually quite deep. Portions really lots. Was shopping all over today. It’s little after 5pm. Big traffic on I8. So I find myself here at ZM. Call it Happy Hour. Lol. Till traffic subsides.

I am surprised I haven’t I am just now writing a review for them! This place is amazing! I’ve come here for multiple birthdays, graduations, family dinners, and just because. The food is large portions«family style.», that way you can share and try a little bit of everything. All of the spices, sauces, and garnishments are perfect. They have a huge, menu of things to pick from, and I really want to come here on Christmas eve(day?). I’ve heard it’s one of there busiest nights/days, and it’s a lot of fun. For not being a «chain restaurant.» This place is HANDSDOWN, the best in San Diego.

This place needs a serious remodel, so dated and dirty. They have spent no money on maintaining the interior. It hideous and creepy. The double doors that lead to the kitchen are super filthy, and dont get me started on what I saw behind the doors. The soy sauce and S&P shakers were filmy and old. Someone needs to let them know replacing them after 2 decades is necessary. The service is efficient at best, dont expect charm from anyone, esp. Mme. Servette. She takes it to another level. The fish tanks are the only save and even they look oppressed and bored. The food used to be hot and fresh in the early 80’s and 90’s but sadly its a sad shade of gray in 2015. 1 star for being open on a sunday and 1 for the fish trapped in tanks staring a the same olé dishes.
