Came here to watch a Giants baseball game a while ago and it was a cool place. Had a good selection of beers on tap. I ordered the carne asada tacos which were very flavorful! The staff was nice, but service was kind of slow for the small number of people there. Overall, seems like a decent spot to watch sports games!

I absolutely loved this place. To find a place in Cali where we could walk in to watch a Royals postseason game and EVERYONE is cheering for the Royals(if not also decked out in Blue). Pleasant surprise. Schooners add a feeling of being back in Lawrence and the Jayhawk décor around is awesome. All college loyalty aside, we had great service on a night that it was packed. I couldn’t decide between the mahi taco or the lobster taco, so I got both. The lobster taco was definitely my favorite, but both were excellent. Parking on the street is hard to find, but there is a public parking area just 2 blocks away that we easily found a spot each time we went(6 days in San Diego and we came here twice… it was that good). This would be my local hangout if I lived anywhere close to here!

We stopped in for breakfast pre-zoo and sat outside. Olive Café(kitty-corner) was packed and for some reasons, Boardwalk was totally empty. In fact, we weren’t sure that they served breakfast(they do). Our server and her trainee were terrific. I would not, however, do the breakfast burrito. The breakfast sausage was fantastic. This is a Kansas Jayhawk bar if that’s not random to you. The bathroom is simply filthy with a piece of plywood acting as a bathroom stall.

I don’t write reviews, but I’ve spent the better part of the day wrapping my mind around what happened here today and the review might be therapeutic. I was here this morning with my parents and boyfriend, and we pushed some tables together since we had 4 more people on their way to meet us there. We planned to have lunch and a few rounds of drinks while watching football. My dad ordered a margarita, and when it came it was really, really terrible. Way too heavy handed on the syrup so it was so sweet it was undrinkable. We told our waitress that it wasn’t right, and my dad asked if he could just get a beer instead. The waitress said of course, but that she couldn’t take the charge for the gross margarita off the tab(even if we sent it back). We were all pretty shocked that this was the answer, I’ve never been at a place that would charge you for something that came out unsatisfactory. This was even AFTER we ordered at least $ 70 worth of food, and planned to order 3 more drinks from the bar when the food came out. AND this was before the other half of our party arrived who would have continued spending $$$. Instead, we asked for our check then and there, put a cancel on the food, and walked out. We ended up paying $ 23 for pretty gross coffee, waters, and one starter of weird calamari. Oh, and the gross drink no one drank. Felt bad for the waitress, who was trying to do her job and saying her manager wouldn’t let her take the drink off the check — but felt equally confused at why the manager – who clearly must have been there to make that call – didn’t even bother to come over as $ 100+++ walked out of the room. Spare yourself, go somewhere else. These people seem confused about how to treat people and what good service is.

Not much more that I can say that hasn’t already been said by Sonic D. I will reiterate that this was the absolutely worst experience ever. The only reason I’m giving 1 star is so that I can leave a comment. The management and staff should be ashamed of themselves for treating paying customers this way.

The worst experience I’ve EVER had at a restaurant. Yesterday, August 31, my girlfriend and I took our goddaughter out for breakfast. I dropped them off so they could grab a table while I try to find parking on Mission Blvd. It took about about 25 minutes of driving around, but I found a spot. When I walked in and sat down, I noticed we didn’t have any drinks on our table. My girlfriend explained that the bartender came by about five minutes ago because he didn’t know who our server was but noticed no one came by to take our drink order and wanted to make sure we at least had that taken care of. Mind you, the place was busy, but not so packed that you had to wait for a table. We sat in the corner front table right next to the outside patio(Table #14), so we are clearly visible patrons. There seemed to be four people serving the tables in this small establishment and I looked two of them in the eye to get their attention. NOONE comes by. Eventually, the hostess sees us and asks if a server has come by to our table, and we both motion no. She said she would take care of it. She goes to the back by the register to do something and comes back saying it was taken care of. During this time, the bartender again brings out our coffee, water, and juice for our goddaughter. The bartender mentions that he doesn’t know what’s going on with the staff so he takes our food order as well. THEDAMNBARTENDER!!! That’s not his job to do, but he did anyways. We wait some more. Meanwhile, the table next to us has already gotten two rounds of drinks. We’ve gone through our lukewarm cup of coffee and no one has come by to ask if we wanted more. As we’re waiting much longer than usual for our food, I was making the decision to walk out an leave. As I exited the restaurant to go bring the car around, my girlfriend calls to me showing that the food just arrived. We asked the guy who brought our food for more coffee and that was the only refill we had. During our time eating, nobody on the staff there came to our table to ask how things were going, or how was the food, or if we needed anything else. We ate our food and I went to the bar to ask the bartender for our check since he’s clearly the only one looking out for us. Some random lady brought the check. Apparently, our server was Mattie C.(Chk# 44) based on the info on my receipt. My bill was $ 27.88 and I left $ 28 flat. I personally handed my tip to the bartender and thanked him for taking care of us as he didn’t have to it. I REALLY, REALLY don’t want to make it a racial issue, but when you look at the landscape of the all the patrons sitting there, it’s hard not to. Either way, please train your staff on how to give good if not great customer service. It really goes a long way. I have experienced bad service before, but this was totally unacceptable. Not only did you deprive my girlfriend and myself timely service, but you also made it worse for a child who just wanted to eat.

Great burgers and waffle fries. I didn’t love my drink though(piña colata). The service was fabulous. Great location near the beach.

Good food(CA Benedict with bacon instead of turkey) and friendly service. Comfortable, casual, family friendly for brunch after a paddle on the bay.

We wanted to go to the Olive for breakfast but it was packed so we ended up across the street at Boardwalk. You could smell last night’s party. They should stick to a bar with dinner and lunch. Breakfast was edible but that is about it.

I ate here with my husband and 2 of our friends. This spot has a great atmosphere with its open space and great location. I and my friend ordered the poached egg benedict and it was delicious! Wouldn’t change a thing about it. I also had a pancake which was really fluffy and yummy. My husband had a club sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was a very generous portion of meat and toppings in between the bread! fries were good! Our other friend had a breakfast quesadilla and seemed to be pretty quiet so I’m guessing it was good! Service was just okay which is the reason for the 4 stars

Hey San Diego, If your heading down to the Mission Beach area, and after catching some waves or sunshine — drop into The Boardwalk to handle your hunger or thirst. I’ve been coming to The Boardwalk for the last four years, and they have«never» let me down. Pat(the owner), Josh(the mgr), Trish, Will, etc, will definitely take care of you. All great people that truly care about you having a good meal, great drinks and an overall good time while in their little corner of Mission Beach. If your lucky enough to come in during a KU Basketball game — get there early. They can have a capacity crowd on the weekends, and their staff gets pushed to the max. The San Diego KU Alumni Association camps out there, and hands out KU goodies to all that come in — get a souvenir shirt while your at it. So for a great Burger, Taco’s, excellent Breakfast menu and a wide assortment of drinks — this is the place. Come as you are, cause this is not a 4 star high end restaurant, but a 5 star Beach hangout(shoes are optional). Rock Chalk.

I have been here more than a few times and always had the same experience with the food, bland. I have had different things every time but always the same result. Other than that, the location is fantastic, love the patio, and the staff has always been friendly.

I’m Jayhawk in San Diego, so the Boardwalk is where I watch most NCAA Basketball games. I’m a big fan of the waffle fries and my food choices generally vary between chicken fingers(lightly breaded which is nice) the CA Ranch Burger and chicken tacos. The food is usually excellent and on the rare occasion it wasn’t the staff promptly fixed it for me. The wait staff deserve a huge credit. During KU basketball games and Chiefs football games this place gets packed, and the staff is constantly busting their butt to keep up with all the orders. If you wanna watch KU Basketball and Chiefs football in San Diego, this is where you need to be. You will not find a better sports bar to gather with other Chiefs and Jayhawks fans.

I was here for brunch a few days ago and loved it. The bloody Marys were awesome(I bartend and I’m very picky in that department) and came with an amazing pickle(also a pickle freak). My BF and I shared the mashed potato omelet and… OMGGGG! Why in the world did it take so long for someone to come up with this amazing idea?! It came with the mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, bacon and sour cream on top, so it was defiantly not dry at all. Very creamy and dreamy. On the side you get a choice of hashed browns or breakfast potatoes-we got the BPs. Thank gosh we decided to share(which I never do btw– I’m a breakfast monster), because we didn’t even end up finishing it off… Wish I could remember my servers name, she was knowledgable and as cute as a button. Perhaps next time, I defiantly will be back specifically for this exact same meal. :)

Hmmm… where to start? My friends and I were out paddle boarding in the bay all day and were SO hungry! We googled the closest restaurant and this was it. Once in we sat in a corner booth that was able to fit our group. The unanimous vote was that the food was pretty darn good. I ordered the nachos which were decent and HUGE. My boyfriend ordered a hamburger which he was very happy with(he’s very stuck up when it comes to burgers). Another friend ordered the fish tacos and was pleasantly surprised to find they were delicious. There was also some alcohol ordered around the table. My boyfriend ordered a margarita on the rocks and I tried it. I normally only like margaritas blended, but even I thought this one was sweet and not a glass of tequila! They also brought us a free sample of the cherry cider which was DELICIOUS. I would have ordered a glass if I wasn’t so dehydrated from being in the sun all day. I am giving The Boardwalk 2 stars based soley on the amount of FLIES in the restaurant! They were swarming our table and food and drinks. We were all so grossed out and annoyed. It was like I had to continuously swat them away with one hand while eating with the other. I was afraid to open my mouth to take a bit for fear of a fly flying into my mouth(I’m not joking!). We even took on eof their floor fans and pointed it directly onto our table in hopes it would keep them away… it didn’t! At one point our waitress walked up to check on us swatting them away so they are fully aware of the problem. I get that this is a beach restaurant and they want the windows open. I have been to many other places like this, without this problem. They have devices and ways to keep the flies out and I think The Boardwalk should invest some time in research.

I went to beach for the day, but before hitting the sand, I came here to grab a quick breakfast. I had their breakfast Club sandwich for $ 7.95 which had two fried eggs, cheddar, crispy bacon, avocado slices, lettuce, and tomatoes, on sourdough bread. The meal came with a choice of potatoes and I chose the home fries.( ) The sandwich was pretty good. The eggs were over hard the way asked for them, and the bacon was tasty and crispy. The avocado was fresh and ripe, and the tomatoes and lettuce gave the sandwich a nice fresh character. The sandwich was basically an avocado BLT with cheese and a couple eggs. Not that there is anything wrong with that.( ) The sourdough was okay. It was pretty simple and toasted. I think it would of elevated the sandwich, if they would of put the bread on the griddle with some butter, to give it some nice color and crunch. The home fries were good and were properly seasoned and garnished with peppers and onions.( ) I had a very cool server, I can’t remember her name, but she had a great sense of humor and was prompt. The place has seating inside and outside.
