I couldn’t be more annoyed if I tried. Location is a prime spot overlooking PB and literally a hop, skip and jump away from the beach. This review isn’t about location though. Service is shitty and it takes two or three waves to a bartender and or server to actually get their attention. Then when you do have their attention, it takes another 10 minutes to get a drink or whatever the hell you want. Food is just as shitty as service. Everything they have is basically frozen. When you order something, that’s when it’s thawed out and warmed up, then served up on a platter. Absolutely terrible. Two stars for location and a great rooftop overlooking the ocean.

Absolutely appaling service. My friends and I went here on vacation. Doing some typical long weekend day drinking, one of my friends got one of the basketballs from the shooting game. A security guard came and grabbed it from him, understandably. My friend thought it would be funny to play some faux defense while the guard returned it to the game, and even pulled off a pretty sweet steal when he was going to shoot it. The guard didn’t like this at all and immediately wrapped him up from behind, then body slammed him onto the concrete floor. At this point I tried to grab my friends so that we could leave, saying, «Hey guys, let’s get out of here, this place sucks.» This hurt some little bar back’s feelings apparently because he ran up to me and started shoving me. I guaranteed him he didn’t want to do that and he backed off to rip a glass out of another friend’s hand and get water all over several of us. At this point he said to the manager, «get these guys out of here before I slap the s**t out of them!» All together very unprofessional staff. I’m sure most of them are great but with trash like that on board I wouldn’t suggest anyone go. Were my friends and I less level headed people, the security guard would have probably gone to jail. Will never go back.

Do yourself a favor and get a spot on the roof unless you’re extremely adamant about playing some arcade games. This place is somewhat hard to find. Although, some people like that sort of thing. Considering what you get at the end I would recommend putting in the work to find this place. The drinks were so weak. A friend bought me a vodka & soda water, not my usual drink, but I don’t refuse a drink from a friend. The drink was pretty much all soda water and no vodka whatsoever. On top of that, the drinks are served in old, dingy looking, cheap, clear plastic cups. If you aren’t able to find a place outdoors on the roof, you better not get stuck inside on a hot day, it feels like a sauna in there. The two positives on this place are the classic arcade games and if you’re on the roof, you can catch an amazing view of the sunset

The bartenders are Awesomesauce. The setting is great! Right on the beach of Pacific Beach, there’s a comedy show every Wednesday night @930pm that is killer! Come out for some drinks and a ton of free laughs.

I must have caught this place at a perfect«bro-less» time. After a long work week in San Francisco I found myself in San Diego sitting on the beach and sipping a Michelada. After a few naps and a dip in the ocean it was time to eat. My party and I settled on the beachside eatery, The Wood, for two reasons; this place is usually empty in the early evenings and it’s a great spot for sunset dining. Our server, Paulina, wasted no time in getting us two pitchers of water, our appetizer order, and our cocktail order. Which was surprising after reading a lot of the harsh reviews about the service. Soon a massive tray of Carne Asada nachos hit the table with a thud. This could have easily been a meal for three; crispy chips, mounds of cheese, sour cream and a very nontraditional carne asada, but still very good. Next up, Surf n’ Tacos. Shrimp, steak, cotija cheese, covered in a spicy crema fresca. The shrimp and steak was cooked perfect and the pickled onions added a nice salty/vinegar punch. The menu said homemade tortillas, but I have a sneaking suspicion that these were store brought. I recommend in a town like San Diego, don’t fake your tortilla game. Finally, the sunset views from here are ridiculous. You can watch from the roof or in the main dining area. For those of us who don’t live on the coast anymore, it was truly a sight for sore eyes. Cheers bruh.

Always a nice view and they have games on the second story. Drinks are never cheap but great spot to visit when company is in town.

I, personally, think The Wood is just a little underrated. The food is pretty good. The carne asada tacos are good. If there’s anything about them they could possibly improve, it would be to add a little more tortilla chips. The thing that made this receive a three star rating was the atmosphere. There was only a few parties seated, barely making noise. It was hard to talk to each other because of the music being at the volume other was at. The condition of the place also looks a bit beat up. The Wood is a type of place I wouldn’t return to often, not to say it’s bad, but because it’s not my first choice.

Mmmm this place is pretty bad… The bathrooms are gross and don’t flush. We sat at a table for taco Tuesday yesterday. Our grumpy blonde waitress, don’t know her name because she never told us, didn’t inform us of any specials… Messed up our first order, never brought or offered condiments and disappeared into the kitchen for days. The food was eh :/the drinks were strong but not made super well. Although, my second was better than my first. If it wasn’t for location, this place would have failed miserably a long time ago. Would love to see some employees work here that don’t hate their lives. A smile goes a long way: D especially when your customers are here to have a good time, not feel like they’re bugging you.

The Wood or Beachwood as it was previously called is a decent dining option and better bar option in Pacific Beach. As with anywhere in PB parking is limited but a small lot out front is available as well as street or alley parking. The restaurant /bar is on the second floor and opens up into a large room with comfortable seating options, arcade games and pool tables, a large center bar, and dining tables surrounding large windows that open up to ocean views. The drinks are a little overpriced but taste decent. Food options are very ‘bar’ like but the tacos and nachos are delicious, the nachos are almost the size of the menu — big enough for 3 – 4 people. During the winter months they offer all you can eat crab for $ 25 on Tuesday nights. During the summer months stick to the happy hour specials. Very busy on weekends but a fun place. Downsides would be overpricing and slow service.

It is a bar in PB. Loud crowd, sometimes some drink deals but most of the time just what seems to be a bit overpriced cocktails and beer. If the weather is good and you are lucky and come at a good time the roof top is your best bet. Go grab a table or a bed… you’ll get a view and chill atmosphere. The food is not great or really affordable but it will do if you need to be eating while drinking. I was here for St. Patricks day in one occasion. I did run into some interesting intoxicated characters, they were playing the basketball game I wanted to watch so that was nice. Had one of their items on the menu, I don’t remember what so it must have not been that great. Like I said, eat only if you need to.

I want to like this place, because of the location and roof top deck, but they really make it hard to do so. My girlfriend came to town and wanted tacos, it was a beautiful sunny afternoon and I had been wanting to try this place. We went up to the roof and found a decent spot with a good view. It took a while for our server to come over but when she did she took our drink order. I ordered the spicy mango maragarita(can’t recall the name), and we both ordered water. We rode bikes and it was pretty hot out so we both really wanted water. The margarita came and had to ask again for water. In the mean time, the table behind us was loud, vulgar, rude and inconsiderate. In my opinion they should have been cut off and kicked out. They were making a scene and were very obnoxious, causing many nearby tables to keep glancing over and were visibly annoyed as well. We got up and moved to a table near the back. The food came out after some time and wasn’t anything special. The tacos my girlfriend has been craving were cold, the beans were cold too, but she was hungry she ate most of it anyways. I had the Diego burger, which was just okay, nothing special either. Our server, was very inattentive, not vey friendly and didn’t seem to know much about the menu options or drinks either. In all I was really disappointed and won’t be coming back for food, maybe a drink on a sunny day but that’s about it. There’s far better places to grab lunch in PB.

This place was pretty dead on a Friday night at 10pm. There were more people here than downstairs at Red’s but still pretty boring. Nobody ever asked us if we wanted food or anything and we were sitting at a table for at least a half hour. I do like that they have a ping pong table that appeared to be free, or at least we played for free. They have a few arcade games but I wasn’t drunk enough to pay $ 1 for that! It’s on the second floor and there’s a big booth area with big windows that might be good for a big party but as far as night life goes I was disappointed, we may have just been there too early though.

Started really loving the wood after the. boardwalk closed and the KU alumni watch parties moved to the wood. And its been a wonderful transition. I love the location, High ceilings, fresh ocean breeze, games, tons of seating and parking, good weekly food and drink specials and tons of. tvs! I thought this place was your typical pb bro bar and I find that the more time I spend there, the more I love it! It has a lot to offer, plus now they are a KU bar!!- Rock chalk! Flatbreads are soooo good… esp the goat cheese one

The Wood, formally called Beachwood. Parking can be found on the street(if your lucky) of in the underground parking garage where you can get your ticket validated. Came in last Saturday, and was completely surprised to find the place pretty empty. On other times I’ve been here it was really hard to walk through the place and you’d basically be elbow to elbow with people. The security guard did say it was busy earlier but died down a lot-it looked reeally sad inside. Anyway, there are many tables and lounge seating areas inside. They too also offer a roof top deck but it was closed when we went. On one side of the walls near the bathroom, they have old school arcade games. The drinks are okay, and priced to sell. I’ll probably keep this place a day drinking location, because the crowd definitely dies at night.

(+) points for: –Ambience. UCLA Alumni Association hosts a ton of sporting events here, and since my friends and I happened to be in the area during the big rivalry game, I dragged them along to check it out. It was so awesome to see a sea of blue and gold displaced in San Diego, as I never knew there were so many UCLA alumni down here until I stepped into The Wood. Plus, seeing the same game plastered across all their TV screens, as well as the 8 clap magnified every time our team made a touch down made it that much more exciting. –Parking. I don’t frequent Pacific Beach, but I expected parking to be a pain. Actually, both our cars found parking in the same plaza as the restaurant, which rarely happens closer to downtown or a beach community. That was super convenient and felt safe. (-) points for: –Drinks. Strong and overpriced drinks at $ 10. I was told there was a 10% discount for UCLA alumni/fans in UCLA gear, but did not receive it which was confusing. I asked around a little but didn’t get a clear answer, and it was too hectic and noisy to try to prove otherwise. –Food. Didn’t get to try their food. My friends unenthusiastically took one look at the menu(as they were already dragged to the game), and decided to walk to Oscars to get tacos instead. Solid choice. –Rooftop bar. Some of the reviews say it’s great as it overlooks the ocean. Honestly, at night time it was just a cold expanse of black. With a huge game on downstairs and inside, the rooftop area seemed neglected and more appropriate for someone seeking respite from the craziness. Ergo. 3 stars. Would come here for another UCLA game, but wouldn’t come here otherwise.

Great rooftop bar over looking the ocean! I have only come here to watch football and have drinks. Big TVs, reasonably priced drinks, and awesome ocean views sums up The Wood. We ordered nachos one of the times we came and they were ok. Service was pretty decent too. It’s in a great location especially if you want to hop around to the different bars in PB.

If you’re looking for good food, great view, fun ambiance, great drinks, sunshine on your nose or a shaded table with window views, this is your place! The Cobb salad is huge, enough to share, but so good! I love that they premix the salad dressing, and that the apple smoked bacon, avocado, and fresh turkey was great quality! My hubby ordered the chicken pesto sandwich and raved about the tender and flavorful meat with crispy fresh fries! $ 32 for two sodas and two entrée’s including tax & tip! Service was awesome too! Most friendly and helpful staff!

I can’t explain it — the crowd is pretty Jersey Shore. But that is no fault of the establishment. It is a great place for people watching and drinking. The staff is attentive and gets drinks out pretty quick. Be sure to ask for any daily specials.
