Cute little trendy spot ! I looovvvvveee the«Downtown Hash Brown» breakfast sandwich super yummy and made fresh! We always make breakfast runs here around 9pm and it’s not too busy ! It’s a bit pricey but worth it .:)

The District is a perfect example of simple, straightforward food that doesn’t sacrifice flavor or quality. I work nearby and I come in for lunch every so often. It does get busy around noon and the wait can get a little long. I’ve made the mistake of coming here on a 30 minute break, waiting almost 20 minutes for my meal, and having to scarf it down immediately. I prefer to come in after the lunch rush when it’s less crowded. On the plus side, the food comes out steaming hot and always tastes fresh. I’ve had the seared ahi sandwich, the petco pastrami, and the 10th and market. I always order a cup of tomato soup on the side. All the sandwiches I’ve tried were delicious, but the 10th and market is my favorite by far. I’d usually steer clear of breast meat on a sandwich because it tends to be on the drier side, but in this case it’s quite the opposite. The chicken is juicy and flavorful and the aioli gives it a tangy kick. It’s substantial enough to get me through the rest of the work day without making me feel like I need to take an afternoon nap at my desk. Check it out if you’re looking for a casual lunch spot in East Village.

The Cobb salad has fresh chicken, zesty vegetables, tangy ranch dressing, and crisp bacon. I added a side of crunchy potato chips. The soda refills are sizable and the staff is way cool. And the music is sick. One of East Village’s best lunch spots.

The people who wrote bad reviews about this place are wannabe food critics and honestly make me mad. I eat at the District multiple times a week and I enjoy it every time. If you didn’t like what you ordered maybe you should have ordered something else. I always see people complaining on Unilocal about the dumbest stuff. One person wrote a bad review on this place because it took 15 min to get his food. Really? A bad review because of that? Get a life. I personally enjoy the Downtown Hash Brown and whatever that meal is with the ahi and cheese, but you can’t go wrong with whatever you order.

Best sandwich shop in East Village. They serve breakfast all day, which gets an automatic good rating from me already, and their lunch menu has a little bit of everything. Quite a few vegetarian friendly options. Best thing on the menu in my opinion is the Saigon sandwich. The shredded beef marinated with vegetables in their homemade lemongrass sauce is something delicious. Everyone that works there is incredibly friendly as well. I’m a big fan of small businesses, and it’s always nice to see a place like this doing well and helping keep the amazing neighborhood of East Village fun and unique.

What a letdown to see the photos posted and read the reviews, and then to experience the sandwiches in the real. My District Attorney had two thin slices of meat, and loaded with lettuce. I subbed rye for the sourdough bread and they charged me and extra $.50. Never said anything to me about an upcharge when I placed the order. My dining companion had the Cobb salad, which was all iceberg lettuce. When I added 18% tip for the meal, they calculate it based on food and tax, so I ended up tipping more than intended. Not a big deal, and they need the $ more than me, but no one ever calculated tip based on food & tax… it’s just the food. My friend & I both commented that there’s better value elsewhere, so we won’t be returning here!!!

My friends and enjoyed lunch here today. We actually selected it just because it was near a new donut shop we wanted to try and we were all very pleasantly surprised with the unique menu, fast service and freshness of the food. Everyone really enjoyed their food. We found meter parking near by very easily and we sat at some picnic tables they had out front. Inside was very warm, they defiantly did not have AC. Checking in on Unilocal got me a free side. You have choice of soup, salad or chips. The salad was delicious, fresh and they used real greens… Not iceberg or even romaine! Prices were very reasonable as well. We’ll be back for sure.

I live really close to this place and it’s the perfect go to spot for a quick lunch. If I’m working from home I go here. I recommend the beet and burrata salad! I added chicken to mine and it was perfectly filling. You must try this place out!

Stopped in this morning for a coffee and a Morning Treat: Nutella & strawberry jam on sourdough with a side of fruit. Although it was hard to find parking nearby, the sammy was delicious. The coffee is piping hot and the food served up quick. I’ll be back to try other things on the menu if I can find a place to leave my car.

Tried this for lunch with a few friends. We each got sandwiches and left satisfied! Great sandwiches and sides! I had the chicken salad sandwich and loved it with the grapes, tomatoes and pecans. Hit the spot. We’ll definitely be back!

The turkey cold sandwich has everything I look for in a sandwich: crusty bread, fresh produce, quality meat. They definitely know their sandwiches! The only downside is that there appears to be no air conditioning.

So good! Best sandwiches I’ve had in SD so far. Both breakfast and lunch sandwiches are unique and fabulous. Had the downtown hash brown and boyfriend had the the ultimate breakfast dip. Fresh ingredients made to order and a laid back atmosphere. Highly recommend checking this place out!

The District is a small little spot right off of 10th and Market. We needed a quick lunch before the game, and we were hoping this was the place. We ordered and the food was out in MAYBE three minutes tops. My cousin had the District Dip sandwich which he ate in about 2 minutes. Its was so good I had to convince him to let me take a picture first. I had the Petco Pastrami. Very fitting for our day out at the ball park. The pastrami was thickly sliced, perfectly prepared, with melted cheese and a great sauce. The bread has to be made fresh, it was just too good. There are picnic tables outside and a couple tables inside. They offer food to-go, which might be perfect to grab-and-go into the park. Imagine the people next to you as you bite into this perfect sandwich and wonder where you got it. I will be back to check out more of the menu! :)

Chicken Salad Sandwich was dominated by dill and the toasted white bread it came on was greasy. It looked and tasted like a sandwich I would have bought at an airport. I also ordered a bottled water(they advertise Smart Water) and was given what I believe was an Ice Mountain from a 24-pack. SMH. That said… I will still come back and I will order something different(something with cold cuts and cheese maybe? different bread?) to give it another shot.

So I’ve been here a few times and it’s pretty good. This last visit was the first time I had placed my for dine in. I went there with two of my co-workers for a quick bit and we arrived just in time too because there was only one small table in the corner available. The dining room is a little too small in my opinion as there are about seven two tops throughout the dining room. I was looking for a low cal option so I ordered the Summer Salad with Ahi(dressing on the side). The salad was fresh and the ahi was well seasoned. I will surly go back.

Sometimes you just want a sandwich. I love burgers and burritos and pizza and all the other items that litter all my reviews, but sometimes you just want a deli sandwich. Sometimes when you want a cold cut sandwich the other person you are with still wants a breakfast sandwich. Enter The District to the rescue. This little shop is right across Market Street from Grocery Outlet. It has a few tables both inside and out on the sidewalk. I got the Mediterranean which is smoked ham, salami, smoked mozzarella with Red wine vinaigrette on a griddled baguette for $ 7.95.(It typically also has olive tapenade, chopped lettuce and shredded Parmesan, but I got mine without) It was pretty good and definitely hit the spot. Oh yeah they soups and salads too.

I’ve been waiting to find a premier sandwich shop in downtown! Been forced to go to Subway until I came across THEDISTRICT! Couldn’t make my mind up about which sandwich to get, but ended up with the ‘Cold Turkey’ which was very flavorful. Decent sized as well. Since I checked in, I also received a free bag of chips, which is a definite plus. Service was fast and friendly and dining area was really nice and upkept. However while eating, I saw a gentleman wait in line for a few minutes and did not get service, so he left. A little more attention could go a long way. This didn’t take away from my experience however. HIGHLYRECOMMENDED. Will be back.

Part of me wanted The District to be a Washington DC-themed deli featuring endless«Scandal» reruns on flat-screen TVs — but that wasn’t meant to be. I guess I let my Olivia Pope-obsessed imagination get the best of me. It’s no big deal, though. The District is still a cool little sandwich shop. I dropped by on a whim while running errands downtown. There isn’t much to the place — just a counter and a few tables — but it manages to be comfortable and inviting nonetheless. I ordered a «Cold Turkey» sandwich(smoked turkey, sugar-glazed bacon, mozzarella, spinach, tomato, avocado, and lemon thyme aioli on grilled sourdough), a small side salad, and a bowl of tomato fennel soup. Thanks to the Unilocal check-in offer, the side salad was free. Win. The sandwich was fantastic. Loved the buttery, crispy sourdough. The bacon was a little rubbery, but nothing to get too worked up about. The side salad was surprisingly excellent, with a tasty and tangy vinaigrette. The tomato fennel soup was also wonderful in flavor. The consistency was a little lumpy and grainy, which was probably done on purpose — but I think I prefer a smoother and creamier style of soup. Just my preference. One last thing — prices are nice and low here. The District may be the last place in downtown/metro SD where a high-quality, filling sandwich remains in the sub-$ 8 range. Let’s see how long that lasts…
