The Bernardo Winery has been a spot that carries decades of memories for me! A couple months back my best friend got married there and it was an amazing venue for a wedding! We both live close by and so the winery is literally our backyard! I took my family here this morning for the weekly Friday(9am –1pm) Farmers Market. Although the vendors were not in abundance, there was great variety. We loved Chez Elloit who had a cheese stand! So yummy! The Winery Farmers Market is fun but I wished they had more vendors and perhaps even some live music to make the place alive and kicking. We’ll be back for sure!

Heni at the beauty salon in the Bernardo Winery and shops did an updo and haircut for my daughter and I on my wedding day and it turned out beautifully. She was so friendly and so kind. She gave us choices in hair accessories and made sure we received exactly what we wanted. I would strongly recommend Heni to your hair on a special or just in general. She was very professional and great at what she does.

Cute shops. It’s fun to wander around after a wine tasting or after lunch. The entire grounds and all the shops were decorated for Christmas and everything was so beautiful. There was a guitar player so we sat and relaxed and listened. He played everything from Christmas standbys to songs from Phantom to the Beach Boys. We had a great afternoon people watching and listening to some pretty music.

I’m getting married at Rancho Bernardo Winery in October and was looking for a person to do my hair. I just had a trial run with Andrea Sorrentino at the Rancho Bernardo salon and SHEISAWESOME!!! I was so nervous that I would have trouble with my hair looking how I wanted(I’ve had problems in the past), but Andrea understood right away. I’m not only relieved, I’m excited to have the final do with her on my wedding day! It doesn’t hurt that she’s super nice and totally not pushy — highly recommended!

Fabulous little shops in lushly landscaped grounds, a pleasure to visit! Also, you can walk around with a glass of wine in your hand while you visit the shops. We loved the Cotton Cottage and both Darcy and I bought some real cute stuff. Me: 3 pair of pants and 2 tops. Darc: pants and a top. The place is jammed with stuff, including printed tshirts and some jewelry. All the shop people are so nice. Especially the woman who runs the Gardener’s Cottage. I bought a beautiful gift: a glass cross painted with flowers on a hanging stand. Really fun to explore.

Cute place to walk around as you wine taste. All the stores are wine-friendly, so if you’re there for a tasting, feel free to grab your glass and go. It feels like a little village without all the crowds. Just a nice place to roam. The shops offer various knick-knacks and such. There’s even a historical museum, which was closed at the time of our visit.

My boyfriend and I, thanks to a 2-for-1 wine tasting Groupon, headed to Bernardo Winery yesterday. Turns out the little stores and studios speckled throughout the historic winery complex, collectively known as The Shops at Bernardo Winery, were just as interesting and as much fun as the winery itself! We visited many of The Shops, but Stone and Glass(studio and gallery of glass artist James Stone) and The Gardener’s Cottage(a festive store full of home décor, lawn decorations, and knick-knacks) were definitely where we spent the most time. The current list of the businesses that make up The Shops follows: * Café Merlot * Sweet Pea Coffee Cottage * The Gardener’s Cottage * Brant Bender Photography * The Clothes Horse * Icarus Art Studio and Gallery * The Bag Cellar * Cotton Cottage * The Salon at the Vineyard * Hummingbird Florist * Cabernet Jewelers * Stone and Glass — Glassblowing Studio * Bernardo Winery Sweet Shoppe * Wai Hope Skincare * Clay Artists at the Vineyard * The Vine — Black Box Theatre * Soulscape Movement Center * Rancho Bernardo Historical Museum You’re able – and encouraged – to bring wine tastings with you into the different shops. Lots of free parking in several dirt/gravel lots as well as street parking in the residential area just outside the complex. Speaking of dirt and gravel, ladies, I’d suggest leaving your heels at home when visiting The Shops and/or the winery. This place has a casual feel. The Shops are closed on Mondays and are generally open 10AM-5PM the rest of the week, though individual store hours may vary. See Bernardo Winery’s nicely organized and information-filled website for more information. From the Bernardo Winery website: «Located around the winery grounds are small buildings, housing some of the most talented, professional and unique artists and services in San Diego… Similiar to an antique Italian Villa, the Winery Village creates an old world quaintness that no ‘stripmall’ would ever lend.»
