Came here for happy hour. It was a pretty good deal. They have good happy hour times, from 5−6pm and 9−12pm. Most places do not have happy hour this late so extra points for this! They have good deals on wines and beer. We also got a fantastic cheese plate, which also was part of the happy hour deal(I believe). I will be back!

I have not been to the Vine in quite a while, and I was very happy I went the other night. started with a cheese cream blend w/toasted bread appetizer that was delicious. for the main course had the seared ahi which was outstanding. my wife had the scallops which she said was just good not great. topped off with a moderately pirice bottle of wine and it was a great eve.

The Vine was so good that I went 2 nights in a row. The first night a girlfriend and I split a bottle of wine, the mushroom puff pastry, the veggie gratin, crabcakes and a side of grilled shrimp. It was all so amazing and I will crave that mushroom thing every day for the rest of my life. They don’t skimp on the crab or over-bread the crabcakes. With all that, it was $ 30 each including tip. The second night I wanted to do a repeat since the first was so good, but instead we tried the ahi and the appetizer special, the burrata. Both were amazing again! If you haven’t tried Burrata and you have a chance, DOIT! It was $ 30 each again because we got wine again. If I was a millionaire, I would eat every meal at The Vine. Can’t wait to go back.

This place is the best low key wine bar you could ever ask for. FANTASTIC food(I’m a junkie for the Veggie Gratin — it’s like bourgeois comfort food). Much of the food is sourced locally from farmers markets and the like. It’s straightforward and delicious. They have a dinner special(one of those, 2 people, one app, 2 entrees, one dessert for $ 35 kinda things during the evening) from 5 – 7 I think. A regularly updated and changing wine menu where I have yet to get anything I haven’t just loved. BESTHAPPYHOUREVAR… Anything that comes in a glass is half off during happy hour, which means soooo are the bottles! The beer selection is perfect for the beer enthusiasts as well. If you’re looking for a «omigod I’m so special because I drink wine» type-place, this place isn’t for you. It’s mellow, laid-back, delicious, and the perfect place to go for a date, wine-junkie happy hour, and any other reason you need for a regular«boy wouldn’t a glass of wine be just fabulous right now» type dinner.

Wine bar in OB? Yes sir and a good one too. Went here a few times for the happy hour(4 – 6 every day), you can make your wine tasting out of it. Wines by the glass are half off. and the pours are very generous. Try their cheese or meats board. The dinner menu looks very appetizing, steak, seafood… i will definitely will be coming back to dine.

The Vine was absolutely delicious… great people and I will give it a 5 star as soon as it jazzes up the décor just a bit! Definately the best food in OB and watch out OB… your property values might go up and the bums/homeless kids might move on?

At first, this place threw me off. It was a slow Monday night, the décor was kind of bland and there wasn’t much of a vibe. Then I went back for Tuesday all-day happy hour and the place converted me. I’m a fan. Goes to show you what a lively crowd will do for a place. Good food. All the apps, especially the meat and cheese boards, are good and reasonably priced. Service was excellent and they have a pretty good selection of wines. AND, unlike most wine bar happy hours, ALL the wines are half price, not just a select few. I recommend.

Way fancy for Ocean Beach but thats a good thing, sometimes you need a change from all of the other places thats on Newport Ave. Its still close enough that you could still see tourists running around though. Usually they are on Bacon street because they cant find parking on the main drag. I will only come here during happy hour because not only is it a bit on the fancy side, its also a bit on the pricey side. They do have good food and they seem to care about presentation. If only I could convince my OB friends to come here instead of Pac Shores… now that would be a challenge.

The Vine Ocean Beach Tuesday November 16, 2010 Four Stars Extended Happy Hour on Tuesdays = ½ Price Glasses of Wine. Ocean Beach looked pretty dead on this Tuesday evening, but when we walked into the OB Vine, the place was packed. All the tables were filled but we stayed and waited because you can chill at the bar or the tables by the window and order wine while you wait. We luckily found a couple seats at the bar. We ordered a couple glasses of wine and their six cheese plate. I can never remember the cheeses: There was a blue, a Vermont Cheddar, two Goudas, a Sheep’s Milk, and something from Northern California. The Vermont Cheddar was probably my favorite because it had such a salty and dry quality to it. We waited for about 30 minutes, but apparently everyone else was waiting for a table as well. So we tried some more wine by the glass. I liked the Santa Cruz Pinot and Napa Valley Zinfandel. The Bartender/Waiter treated us very well. He was really knowledgeable about the wine and let us sample a bunch of it. For Food, we tried Vine Burger, Bacon Wrapped Scallops, Crab Cakes, and Fall Salad. The burger was good: Cooked Exactly Medium Rare, the Ciabatta Bread had a crispy outside and soft center, but the caramelized onions are what make this burger special. The only downside to the burger was the actually patty was under seasoned. The Scallops were well cooked but a bit small. The waiter gave the happy hour price to compensate us. The Crab Cakes were surprisingly spicy. The Fall Salad was a nice refreshing bit. While the food here seems small, it is really filling with 4 – 5 glasses of wine. Over all the service was great, the tab was cheap, and we left full and content. Note: The Wine List on the website is not up to date.

Loving the 3 course menu for $ 35 that’s good for two people. Unlike some restaurants that don’t offer many selections from their prixe fix menus, The Vine had so many things to choose from… it was a toughy having to only choose one from each category. I ended up eating the mixed board, ahi tartar, flat iron steak, and crème brûlée. The mixed board consists of a variety of cheese, deli meat, fruit and crackers… the best way to start a meal! The tuna tartar was different from the usual kind that i eat. The plate had chunks of ahi piled up in the middle with green and black tapenade surrounding it. all accompanied by some slices of toast. I enjoyed the dish but it surely wasn’t something that I was used to. It was different. but good spread on to the warm toasty bread. The flank steak was served medium rare with a creamy blue cheese sauce drizzled on top. Every bite was delicious paired with the candied walnuts and the mashed yukon gold potatoes. At first I was going to order the chocolate cake, but after looking over at my neighbors dessert, I instantly changed my mind to the Crème Brulee. I cracked the top open with my spoon. It was so heavenly with chocolate covered bananas in the middle. I wanted more :( I enjoyed all of the food and the ambiance was nice however the service was quite slow which is why I gave this place 3 stars. She forgot my drink and I had to ask for my refills. Refills should be automatic… JUST sayin! Despite the service. I would come back because maybe I went on a bad day. There are other dishes that I would like to try, and happy hour is from 4 – 6! Come check this place out!

The Pre Fixe is a great deal @ $ 35 for an appetizer, 2 entrees, and a dessert(week days only). Even better if you make it in between 4&6 pm for happy hour when glasses of wine and beer are ½ off. Also, you can get wine by the half glass if you wish. Service is great, everyone is really friendly. Food was good, but not outstanding. I really enjoyed the pork, steak, and chicken dishes. Another friend got the ahi, but I think I’ll stick to just ordering that from Japanese restaurants.

Probably one of the best burgers I’ve had in SD so far. Unbelievably tasty, tender, juicy and cooked the way I like, Medium Rare. So many places won’t do this now. Served on a Ciabatta roll with some homemade potato chips. Not the least expensive burger around at $ 11, but you won’t find me at Hodads when I can get a burger this good right around the corner! Oh man, my mouth is watering… can’t wait to go back and have it again!

Went here for the first time this weekend for dinner. BF and I shared the dinner for two, which is a great bargain at $ 35 for an appetizer, 2 entrees, and a dessert. There are time restrictions on when this is available so check that before you order. We started with the bruschetta with salami, goat cheese, and tomatoes. It was delicious. We had the ahi and pork chop entrees. The ahi is served with a fabulous aioli and both came with the most wonderful mashed potatoes. Yum. The entrees were very different but both good. We finished with the chocolate cake with vanilla sorbet. The sorbet was amazing and the dish was drizzled with strawberry sauce. The atmosphere is unique in OB, a little loungey almost — good date place for sure. The service started well but got a little spotty towards the end of our meal. It took a while for someone to take our entrée plates and offer us dessert but overall it was a good experience.

Absolutely one of the best wine bars in San Diego! Check it out during happy hour – half off bottles of wine, glasses of wine, and beer. They have a great selection as well. The food is extremely good, from cheese boards to dinner. They have a great food special Sunday-Thursday where two people eat for $ 35-one appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert! The burger is amazing as well as the flat iron steak and the butternut squash ravioli. Service is laid back yet friendly.

The Vine is one of the best little wine bars in SD. The staff are amazing… the food is fantastic! Particularly the Burger(the best deal for 10 bucks that I know of) and the side order of roasted vegetables. Yum! They have a beautifully eclectic selection of wines here. I have many that I now look for wherever I go. Come check it out, bring your friends and your pups. It is all good!

You can’t beat the Tuesday night deals at The Vine! They have a huge selection of beers and wines that are ½ off, so what better way to do a Tuesday can you find for that price? The atmosphere is a little yuppie-ish, but it’s got a fun staff that are courteous and informed. I’ll certainly give this bar another try when I’m back in Ocean Beach. Watch out, though: it closes early(10ish)!

Very good place that has consistently good food. Nice, laid back wine bar across from Nati’s off of Newport Avenue. I have had the stuffed chicken and hamburger – both have been quite good. They have an awesome selection of Belgian beers and an OK selection of wine by the glass(selection by the bottle is much better). Very tastey food and reasonably priced. Nice to grab an outdoor table on a warm evening. The inside bar is nice, but the beam that supports the ceiling kind of gets in the way and I wish they would add a televison set – even a small one in a corner, though they do play nice jazz music. The owner and staff are great and very friendly.

I have lived in OB for a little over a year now, and have always walked past, smelled, and admired the cute petite wine bar and restaurant The Vine. First off, great place to go on a date, especially when the weather is nice and you can relax outside. The beer selection runs 3 menu pages deep, and the wine even longer. My boyfriend and I got small salads, the Euro board, and empandas. The spinach salad was a mélange of delicious flavors from goat cheese to bacon, and even caramelized pecans… yum. The cheese plate was good, but for me, you can’t really go wrong with cheese and bread, and the empandas were good too, the lime sauce on it was pretty tasty. All in all, the bill wasn’t horrific, the service was great, and the atmosphere was pretty pleasant. I definitely see myself coming back here again!

Back up to five — last several visits have been outstanding. This place rules! I re-post my previous review: — — - One of the best spots in OB! Absolutely awesome selection of wine and beer. Food is quite excellent as well, from simple cheese boards and salads to full dinner entrees. But the real charm of this place is its unpretentious attitude. Unlike many other wine bars, the staff at The Vine aren’t cocky about wine. They are casual but knowledgeable, and will give great recommendations for any palate. The happy hour is awesome — half price wine and beer(by the glass or bottle) from 4 – 6 every single day! Great to sit outside on a weekend afternoon and drink some great wines at half price.

Look, it’s about two blocks from the beach, on a relatively quiet street corner, and happy hour(4 – 6) offers half price wine and beer(glasses and bottles). Nice enough to take a date, and nice enough to not bother taking a date. What more do you want? Admittedly, the regular prices are a little high, but this is a heck of a place to get tipsy if you time it right. Service is really good, and the few dishes I’ve sampled were tasty enough to make that end of things a plus. Their selection of local and Belgian brews is about as good as one can hope for. It’s a good thing I don’t live by the Vine, I’m already enough of a lush.
