Thompson Building Materials

After looking for a company to build my BBQ island but only finding companies that are looking for large jobs (i.e. including paving, landscaping along with BBQ island), I was referred to these guys. I have dealt with Julie, Dominic and Derek (the manager) and I must say, this is a great company for this type of project. Now, I haven’t ordered yet and will update once it is installed, but up to this point, excellent! I had a lot of information (measurements, scaled drawings etc.) and design ideas but with this type of project, there are many details which require thought, patience and knowledge to arrive at what is going to function and look the best. These guys are very good at enabling you to design what you are envisioning. They took my information, provided me with plenty of options on finish materials, lighting, accessories and had their Auto-​Cad department produce a rendering of the finished island. That allowed me to dump some ideas I thought would great and make an island design that gives me what I need while not being cluttered. I suggest patience (I have been working with them for a month already), questioning what you really need on your island (Derek was especially helpful on this) and going to their shop to update design ideas — so much easier using their displays to pick finish materials/​textures/​reveals and to show them what I did and did not want. You can go without appt. but if you are restricted on time, better to make one.

Whenever I think of patio improvements I like to visit this shop. They have so many different designs and styles in building material to offer. They are knowledgeable of their products and can make some good recommendations. The showroom area is always arranged to show off the various products they carry and to help you create your own style. They have a variety of flower pots, statues and fountains etc to decorate your patio or other landscaping projects. If you just want to accent your patio or build a new one this location is a great place to start the process.

I’m not a contractor. Just a home owner. So, when I’m going to drop a heavy amount of money, shopping around is a must.
We met with one sales person. He was polite, explained quality, prices, and terms.
We came back after research; their price was the near lowest.
They took time to explain what we would need, gave some tips on installation.
They scheduled deliver on a Saturday Morning, with on a week’s advance notice.
They warned that one of my ‘idea’s was going to have some excess — they were right.
Delivery came on time, fast, super helpful in placing it close to our needed spot.
Product was as advertised and worked exactly as we expected and wanted.
Listen, this isn’t your typical big box store. They do brick and masonry — that’s about it. They do large quantity. If you’re buying two bricks for a planter — probably not your place. Go in with the idea you’re doing a big project, have some ideas and are open to some advice, and you’ll come out happy — very happy.

We are building a waterfall fountain/​pond in our backyard so I came here to check out the building material since they are really close to my house. I walked into the main building entrance and was clearly needing assistance by loudly «hum» –ing and saying, «I wonder if… «And I was not even acknowledged! I walked out and headed towards the show room thinking maybe I needed to get help there first.
The showroom is beautiful and Dominic was there who was more than willing to help me! He walked me around the yard, listened to my project idea and showed me the items he thought I would need.
He took me back into the main entrance/​building and got me prices for rocks and sand for the Paverstone path we are building as well.
I will probably use them because the prices are competitive and they are one freeway exit for my house… But based on customer service, Dominic seems to be the only one that gets it!

Called, inquiring about their ad in the UT today. Simple question — they are advertising custom bbq islands but the links in their websites don’t work. Called asking for a way to see the bbq’s but after being put on hold for what felt like forever, it was clear this company does not understand customer service. Seeing earlier reviews, it’s clear this was not a unique case but just how they operate.
Never again…

I came to Thompson on the advice of my stucco contractor. I have 2 properties: One requiring a new driveway and the other property’s backyard is being completely remodeled. Pavers will be used on both projects. My first contact was with Julie in the showroom. In short, she is excellent and an awesome representative for Thompson. My wife and I drove her crazy requesting numerous samples, color-​matching, sizing information, etc. This went on for weeks before we finally placed an order. Throughout the process she was always patient and willing to accommodate our wishes. The pricing is very competitive and we are looking forward to having the driveway installed soon. In addition, I have purchased other products from the sales counter and have always found the sales people to be knowledgeable and friendly. I would heartily recommend Thompson. Also, if you are looking for cutting-​edge ideas for your home, their showroom is incredible.

The staff couldn’t answer simple questions and had a look of puzzlement as to why I would want to know what something cost a square foot. Don’t waste your time.

Don’t waste your time calling in, they will put you on hold for an infinite time.
I have tried calling in a few times and it’s always the same. Please hold… 10min later I just hang up. Well guess what. Now you have just lost a lot of money because I’m done with this place. I’m a builder and don’t have time to waste. Also selection is not very good and there is no pricing on anything. How can you buy things with no pricing. Waste time asking is how.
