Convenience of being on campus and having access to caffeine and tasty sandwiches. My fave is the chai tea latte and the chicken pesto sandwich. Oh, and they serve coke in the glass bottles from Mexico… mmm.

Had my FIRST and ONLY experience with FOODPOISONING here from the sushi! I know what you’re thinking: who would anyone buy sushi there? It really stupid move on my part, but a classmate raved about the sushi being a «hidden gem» in Tu Mercado. I should have trusted my instincts and ignored her, but I didn’t. I know, I know, I know… and I regret it to this day. Seriously, food poisoning was the worst experience of my life. I thought I was going to die. Aside from that, the truth is if you’re at USD you will patronize this place, whether it be for coffee or chips or whatever. Just learn from my stupidity and BECAREFUL.

If you work on USD campus, you may end up buying lunch here a lot. You can go to the dining hall downstairs(more on which in another post) but it’s often crowded and hard to navigate and the sandwich bar here is fast and decent. There are a lot of sandwich choices. Personally, I like the smokey turkey best– sundried tomatoes, and smoked cheddar turn out to be a fantastic combination, and it’s one of the better no-mayo sandwiches on the menu. The cuban sandwich bears little resemblance to a cuban sandwich, but is good; so is the Italian sub, and the chicken-bacon-cheese sandwich whose name escapes me. There are also a lot of choices for a complimentary side dish, though none of the choices are great. You can get a fountain drink, but they tend to be flat. You can get salad, but it’s usually a little sad and unsatisfying. You can get chips, but they’re not good for you. You can get macaroni salad but it’s both sad AND not good for you. Apparently you can also get a piece of fruit, but I’ve never tried that. I’m not saying I recommend this place, really, but you can do worse than the smokey turkey. EDITEDTOADD: The pieces of fruit– also sad. And recently I encountered an orzo salad standing in for the macaroni salad– still pretty tasteless, but less annoyingly sweet and with less mayonnaise. Either get a sad caesar salad, or get a bag of chips and stick it in your desk drawer for emergencies.

Coffee depends on who you get its usually a miss tho, the guy with the long hair makes a good latte but everyone else could use some help. The bagels are amazing, the blueberry one is my favorite! Also i would definitely recommend trying the gelato, mango is a really good flavor! Theres a girl with blonde hair and brown underneath and she NEEDS to work on her customer service skills, i dont know how she has managed to keep her job.

This place is terrible! It is way overpriced, not very healthy, and the food generally sucks. I have tried many of their sandwiches, wraps, sides, sushi, etc and I was really disappointed with the quality of everything. It wasn’t very fresh and some of the sandwich items are just plain weird. Spend your money elsewhere, at least until they get this new spot figured out and back on target.

One of the newest additions to the University of San Diego. This new market features some good/organic/healthy stuff at reasonable prices. If you are a student at USD, this place is heaven, but if you are just another civilian living your life, it is just ok. I highly recommend treating yourself to their delicious selection of candy @ $ 3.99 a pound; not too shabby if you ask me. Also, try their sandwiches, they are delectable. Happy shopping/eating!
