Heard from someone that lives in the area that this place went out of business and its doors closed forever Sunday August 31st.: -( I am going to miss this place. Hopefully, a new location will pop up later on down the road

Veg-N-Out may look like somewhat of a hole in the wall(not a bad thing) when you first walk in, but opening up their menu gives off somewhat of a tardis effect(it’s bigger on the inside!) There’s so much delicious food to choose from that you’ll probably need a minute or two or three to finally pick something out. But if you want some help, I highly recommend checking out one of their house-made burgers. The burger, fixings, and potatoes wedge make an excellent combination. The only downside for me was the cash only status, simply because I almost never carry cash. But if you’re reading this review, at least you can plan ahead.

Well when I do get what I want it’s good… but that rarely ever happens. Seriously this place 8 out of 10 times will not have what you want. The burgers will not have the gluten free buns. Or THEY will not have«Bacon» for the western burger. I feel sorry for the employees that have to continously disappoint. Business owners cannot be this irresponsible! I hope they see this. You have a responsibility being one of the 2 places in North Park that offers a vegetarian option.

Noooo! I just heard they’re closing in a month. Rent was jacked way up on them, now that there’s so many wealthier and less healthier demographic taking over the neighborhood in this GasLampization of North Park :-( Hopefully SOMEbody out there can find some solution, business or otherwise, to keep them around! Can anyone bankroll them into a different location, or get their landlord to not raise their rent? How about get stupid N Park planners let them have their cool outdoor/sidewalk palapa/deck back(which attracted lots more customers, and thus might help them afford higher rent)? BAD for soul and vibe and health of N Park if they leave. Oh, and great food, by the way :-))

I came here with a friend the other day and we were both really happy with out decision. First, we were greeted very promptly by the really friendly cashier. She was fun to chat with, too! Upon walking in, I was inundated with the wafting falafel aroma and that may or may not have swayed my decision(it did…). I was already primed and had falafel in my mind. I can’t resist… I’m such an Arab lol. Anyway, I order falafel and potato wedges. Yum! At that point, I had worked a long day and hadn’t eaten since the early morning. I was so ready to eat! The self-serve melon-infused water in the back is really refreshing. Especially so because it was really hot that day! We decided to sit outside where it was cool and breezy. Outdoor seating is nice because people watching on 30th is tons of fun :). The food comes out very quickly, so we are both really happy because we get to eat that much sooner. What struck me is that on the menu there are a lot of fried items. Don’t get me wrong — fried is good, but I was just a little surprised at how many fried options there were. My falafel were very good. Although a little dense for my preference, the flavors were all there — garbanzo beans, cumin, parsley, etc. The potato wedges were a HUGE portion — not that I’m complaining… potatoes are my ultimate weakness. They were very good, needless to say. However, we had to leave because of the party who sat behind us… one REALLYLOUD talker. Very annoying lol. I would definitely come here again because I want to try something non-fried!

I am big on eating healthy especially Vegetarian & Vegan. I am always looking to try new places to eat. This place was easy to find but the parking is not the greatest. Came in and the menus are right as you walk in and there is plenty of seating. I order the western bacon bbq organic soy burger w/potato wedges. I was impressed pretty much with everything except I did not like the Vegan cheese so I scraped that off right away. This burger is so huge they held it together with a steak knife. Soy bacon was yummy along with the Vegenaise mayo substitute. It’s a bus your own table but this place was very clean. I was amazed at the selection of drinks that were all healthy except they had Coke in the bottle… I guess that is for the ones who can’t go completely healthy. I could not give this place 5 stars it has no AC in this place. As it was a hot & muggy day; the 10 fans they had mounted on the ceiling was barley keep the customers cool. The credit card machine was not working either not thrilled luckly I had cash on me or I would have gone elsewhere. That is my complaint about this place. I will return to this place when it cools down enough for me to sit in there & not have sweat rolling off me.

Flexaterian all day, err day! Because when you want to eat a big, hearty meal and not feel guilty about it later, Veg-N-Out is the way to go. THEDIGS: If you can recall an episode of Rocket Power and their family owned business, the«Shore Shack,» I believe that theme best describes the joint’s digs. It’s surfboard-laced, ecclectic store front is cozy and welcoming with a blend of new age and Motown oldy-but-goodies spinning in the background. You definitely do not need the sand and surf to get at that feel good vibe here. They let all their food do the talking. THEGRINDS: The Flaym’n Raym’n with Soy Patty, Vegan Style: The soy patty had a nice outer crisp with a soft, chewy center, perfect for all the goodness shoved in between a multi-grain bun. Caramelized onions, vegan cheese, vegan sauce, spinach and tomatoes pull the whole damn thing together with textures that are very nostalgic to their carnivorous counterparts but so much more better for you. The kicker in the heat added beautiful spicy tones to the taste buds and if that’s not enough, then do what I do and add sriracha. The only thing I could never get past disliking are pickles. Yuck. Nothing against anyone… I just never liked pickles. But the burger was on point =D. The Tofurkey Club with Multi-Grain, Vegan Style: If you love bacon(and I’m sure many of you are nodding in agreement) then you’ll love this. I don’t care if you’re carnivorous or not. The tofurkey and bac’n on this bad boy is amazing. Sandwich it with some lettuce, tomato, avocado and vegannaise, and you’re set. The taste of a club sandwich is there, minus the grease. Great stuff if you ask me. Sweet Potato Medallions: For a $ 1 extra, you can have your delicious sandwich or burger grind alongside beautiful, thick slices of perfectly cooked sweet potato medallions. There is no detectable seasoning to cover the potato; it is as purely prepared as it’s going to be. The flesh is nice and sweet with a textured ring of skin holding all that fiber goodness together. This is one starch you won’t have to feel guilty about scarfing down. Every now and then I look for joints to expand my eating palette and sometimes it needs to be cleansed. Veg-N-Out is a perfect place to do it with great food and great service. The only thing that’s a little confusing are the daily specials. Y’all have so much going on on your black board that it trips me up every time! However, I’m appreciative of the variety and I’ll be back for more healthy eats.

First of all this was my first time eating at an all vegetarian/vegan restaurant. I was skeptical about trying this place out because I sure love to eat meat. Anyways I went for the ultimate veggie burger. The waitress was patient and kind waiting for my indecisive self to make my final order. She told me it takes about 10 minutes for an order of food to get to the table. When i received my meal, it looked like a real burger and it tasted pretty good. The veggie cheese tasted decent. The sweet potato slices were crispy but not too hard. I added BBQ sauce to it and it was awesome. I would definitely come here again.

As far as food goes, everything I get here I absolutely love. As far as service, this place is a «serve yourself» kind of place. They’ll bring you your food if they’re not busy, but everything else is in the back at a server station. I don’t mind in the least, but I’m sure they’ve had their fair share of complaints because of it from people who like a more«restaurant» setting. I usually go late afternoon, and I’ve never waited long for my order. Love the gluten free/vegan options too!

Mouthwatering menu of hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, and more — most of which can also be prepared vegan, gluten free, or soy free. During a recent visit, I tried the Western Burger that had a veggie patty topped with onion rings, «bacon» and barbecue sauce… SOOOO good. I almost felt like I was cheating eating this! The food is a little pricey(my burger was $ 10+), but in my opinion, definitely worth it. I haven’t tried anything like the burgers here at similar establishments. Service was friendly; the restaurant has surfer-bohemian type décor and a really nice vibe — the little Buddha and stick of sage in the bathroom may have had something to do with that. ;-) It definitely will be on the top of my list whenever I’m in the mood for burgers.

One of the best fucking burgers I’ve ever had! The Ali burger is delicious! The owner Rachel works as the host/cashier as well she’s super friendly and her recommendations are helpful. Sooo tasty tho! Wish it was closer to home!

I came in here for one reason and one reason only. It was during SD Burger week and I had to give a fair shot to at least 1 veggie burger located in the university and 30th st area of venues that offered up a $ 5 feature burger. Of the 13, yes 13 venues I sampled this was the only veggie burger I tried. Never having had one before I was open to see what they could muster up. I saw they stint they did on the news the morning before with Slaters and to say the least I was intrigued by the ingredients and the combo of items put into this Western Burger of theirs. When I saw it with my own 2 eyes for the photo close up in store I was shocked at the look of the monster alone… veggie or not it rivaled any other burger in size and wow factor alone! A tower of delicious between two buns. Upon taste testing of the beast I was floored! How can a non beef burger void of red meat, juicy beefy, fatty ground beef be this good? How? I had no answers but my pallet was not being tricked, it was being bombarded with flavor, texture and freshness unlike I had had before in a burger. An oral and gastronomic sneak attack of culinary magic I would welcome again anytime! The onion rings, cheddar cheese, house made vegan patty, veggie bac’n, mayo, bbq sauce and even the bun were a perfect match of complimentary flavors and textures. The«patty» was unique in that it felt like beef, stuck together vs fell apart like many bean burgers do and had some density to it like beef does. It lacked no flavor at all! At least as far as the western burger is concerned in my book, it can hang with almost any burger in the SD neighborhood and this coming from a burger aficionado who has tried more joints then I can count on all my hands and toes. Try it yourself and tell me I am wrong!

No. Just no. We all felt like shit after eating here, partially because of the piles of grease that we had just consumed, and partially because we had just spent way too much on subpar vegetarian food. I love vegetarian food, while I’m not a vegetarian, and have eaten quite of bit of it, both homemade and from restaurants. This was not very good… and the server was far from nice. There were 6 of us, 5 of my coworkers ordered burgers(veggie) and I for the tofu. we got falafel to start which was DRY and BLAND. I freaking love falafel so this was a disappointment. We got some tempurad veggies to start as well, so I can’t be surprised there was grease, but there was an insane amount of grease on these. The burgers, based on my coworkers’ rankings, were not great. Admittedly, they are all meat lovers, so take that with a grain of salt. I was disappointed with my tofu, which again, was bland. The best part of the meal was my smoothie, which took half of the time we were seated to arrive to me. I’m sorry, I wanted to like this place, but I just was not impressed.

My boyfriend introduced me to this place and we visit, or at least he does, once a week. I’m not a vegan or vegetarian, I’m pretty carnivorous and love hearty meaty dishes. But this place along with all the other veggie places in NP and around town I don’t mind. Especially when I’m on a healthy kick(when I said when) this is a guilt free place to eat. Every time we come here we always greeted by the same girl. We don’t know her name but she recognizes us and is so kind and friendly with not only us but all the customers. Punky girl with the green hair always accommodates us, answers ours questions and makes good recommendations on food. She wasn’t there today for the first time and I was totally bummed. Instead, another girl was there and she was not on the same page. My bf even commented that he doesn’t care too much for that employee when she works and I noticed why. She isn’t friendly and seems like she has a bad attitude. She rubbed me the wrong way as I listened to her interact with other customers and I was let down that I didn’t receive a warm and friendly welcome like with our usual girl. Step it up girl, we see you. –back to the food– I enjoy the self serve water station in the back always filled with cold water and some type fruit or vegetable inside to flavor it. They offer large glass pint sized glasses instead of the dinky little water cups(if you read my review frequently you know how excited this makes me) silver ware, condiments and napkins are back there as well and are self serve. I’ve tried different things here, I’m not a fan of the burgers because they tend to be very dry. That could be due to the type of bread they use? Idk, but I’ve tried the north park burger with a veggie patty and it was alright. I guess I’m just use to meat that it was a different experience. I gave the rest to my bf and ate my potato wedges(which are kinda bland but I add salt and pepper) that are one of the options as the sides they offer(potato wedges, salad or sweet potato chips) potato wedges are my favorite. Nicely sized. My favorite things here is the fruit bowl under«healthy deserts» it’s just a Variety of cut fruits mostly bananas and strawberries topped with, coconut, flax seed, chia seed and other healthy toppings. I also like this strawberry green salad w/balsamic vinaigrette but my green haired beauty mentioned last visit that the owner took it off the menu. Bummer, but if I ask for it she tells the cook and he will make it for me. There’s this peanut butter smoothie that’s delicious as well. Tonight I tried the BLT on sour dough and I was curious to see what the«bacon» would be. It was a different color, pink and yellow and crispy. It tasted like bacon but it wasn’t bacon. As expected with most vegan/vegetarian meat substitutes, definitely good though! There’s always a place to sit, never a wait and the food is served quickly. It’s always a nice treat to come and visit weekday nights. Great health choices when it comes to those that are gluten/soy free.

I have now been twice. I still plan to keep coming back numerous times. –delicious food. Vegan options. –a bit pricey which is understandable for the specialty but I don’t want to pay more for vegan cheese vs regular cheese. It’s like the coffee shop charging more for soy milk –the menu has tons of yummy options. I can’t wait to try more –parking kinda sucks but that’s the city-not the restaurant –staff are all very nice –I got a hamburger style first time I went – was very good! Huge! –potato wedges were a little bland for my liking –next time I got a chickn, mushroom & Swiss. It was ok-not super amazing. I was expecting more of a patty vs pieces I would give 5 stars if it weren’t for the pricing… otherwise it’s a really delicious place. Keep it up veg out owners! :)

I want to tap that fifth star so bad. But I give it a solid four nonetheless. Mostly cuz it can get a little pricey, I mean $ 12 for a vegan burger and a salad. But I’m just a cheap scape. Cheap skate? Cheapskate? Cheapscape? Anyways. I’ve also had tastier veggie patties but still this place had everything under the sun, from burgers to sammies to smoothies. And all vegetarian/vegan. I’m down with that.

Seriously great food. The menu was so huge, I couldn’t decide what I wanted for so long. Would def come back and try something new every time. Great location down in North Park with tons of parking nearby. Mint Jasmine tea was refreshing and the free refills were a plus. We ordered a dessert; fried apples, bananas and strawberries and when it came the waitress told us then that they were out of bananas and that really sucked because that was exactly why I wanted it but it was still really good, especially dipping the fruit into the coconut cream sauce. 5 stars for that cream alone.

This place is In-N-Out only with way more delicious food, bigger menu selection, and TOTALLY100% cruelty(meat) free. So I guess in that sense it’s not In-N-Out at all but whatever… I came here for lunch with two of my girlfriends, one of which is a veggie head like me and the other is a good old fashioned carnivore. It was just amazing, the three of us barely spoke after getting our food because we were so busy chowing down. We all sampled each others food and everything was just amazing. I got the very vegan sandwich on whole grain bread and added the mock bacon. I didn’t think I would be able to eat the entire thing when it came out because it was HUGE but it was so good I couldn’t stop. And the potato wedged on the side are serious business. Were talking like a potato and a half along side your already massive sandwich or burger. My friend opted for a salad on the side that came with a yummy tahini dressing on it. We all left very satisfied and probably a few pounds heavier but it was so worth it. I’m not a vegan anymore, I was one for about two years back when nobody knew what a vegan was(before it became all trendy and s*it) but now I eat pretty much everything(except meat, so I’m a ‘pescatarian’ if you will) but I still have my vegan tendencies and this is one of those places I’m almost mad at myself for not knowing about until now. The menu is huge, I had to stop looking at it after a while because I’d make up my mind and then see something else that looked good and change my mind, this happened several times. I highly recommend this place to vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters a like, it’s just amazing. You really just have to try it to know what I mean. And the nice hippie chick who worked there was really helpful and nice… I almost forgot to mention that.

Really pleased overall. Easy to find. Street parking is what it is, but it was not bad. The counter help was spot on and ready with advice or a suggestion that if you did not know what you want(I did) to grab a menu. There is also a new«Mexican» menu that was near the entrance(see pic). That Mexican menu looked interesting and I need to try some of those vegan/vegetarian dishes. We opted for the Avocado tempura to start. In hindsight I think I would have liked the trio version that includes onion rings… but the avocado is amazing as one would expect. A healthy portion size with two sliced cucumbers and two tomato wedges on a large lettuce leaf. We also ordered the chili(no cheese) and it was very good. Fresh chopped onions on top. I think it would have worked well paired with something starchy. Then the Dash-A-Fire chik’n burger. The burger was tasty and filling. I am glad I tried it, but did not care as much for the appearance of the faux chicken. Nice kick though and loved the fresh veggies on it. Overall I really liked this place. Wish I lived closer! I will be back.
