Just ordered takeout from Waba! It had good reviews and seemed healthy enough, so I ordered the chicken bowl with extra veggies. It was prepared quickly and was a fairly large portion. The veggies are just steamed — so I wouldn’t order extra veggies again next time since the flavor is flat. The chicken was well cooked & the Waba sauce is delicious, make sure to get extra. The rice, just like the veggies, was flat and flavorless. The bowl overall was fine, but I wouldn’t go back or get the same order again.

Finally got to give this place a try. I feel guilty for cheating on Flame Broiler(srs) but I can only describe Waba Grill with one word, BOMBAY! People compare it to Flame Broiler in the sense that they both serve«teriyaki» bowls and plates but I have to say that I am more pleased with Waba Grill. I ordered the chicken steak plate to try both of the meats I get at Flame Broiler. Both were extremely tender and savory. Not saying that Flame Broiler isn’t as well but I do believe the sauce(Waba sauce) here is better than Flame Broiler(Magic sauce). The rice was well prepared and stayed nice and sticky even after being saturated with meat juices and Waba sauce. The plate was a nice sized plate and came with a little side salad with ginger dressing(?) and half an orange. Overall I was extremely pleased with my first visit and I’m pretty sure I’m going to become a regular here.

Stopped here for lunch after going to one up north. Pros: Good flavor for chicken and veggies Don’t feel like I ate a bowl of grease but rather felt good walking out health of food. Quick Friendly cashier Clean bathroom Fairly priced $ 6.25 chicken/veggies and water cup Cons: Parking When I walked in a guy was grilling some meat and I stood there for a good 2 – 3 minutes before a girl came to help me. Sorta odd Def will be back.

It appears we have a Flame Broiler doppelgänger chain opening up in San Diego now. WaBa Grill pretty much features almost the same exact menu as them with a slightly different taste. This location of WaBa grill in the college area opened up not too long ago right underneath some newly built apartments. The parking for this place looks tricky but there’s plenty of it in the parking structure with the entrance right off El cajon blvd. The dining area inside isn’t too big, just a couple tables for small groups. The menu( ) at Waba focuses on a healthier alternative to other fast food places. All dishes feature a basic vegetable, rice and protein mix. Offering not only beef and chicken proteins but shrimp as well. They display their calorie content next to all their items and allow for substitutions for brown rice or white meat if you prefer to get even healthier with your order. Up front they offer bags for you take some green onions and hot carrots( ) to go. If you don’t get enough Waba sauce with your order, there’s a large dispenser to get even more along with some of their hot sauce. The chicken veggie bowl( ) was a pretty decent size for only six dollars and seventy five cents. The bowl featured steamed carrots, broccoli and green cabbage. They cooked my chicken to order and the white meat had lots of flavor to it. The sauce they put on the meat is akin to basically a mix of teriyaki and sugar. The brown rice was short grain and cooked perfect. My bowl had a decent ratio of meat, veggies and rice with not too much of one thing. I considered it to be almost as good as Flame Broiler, even though I prefer their seasonings over Waba’s. I do like their hot carrots they offer up front though, makes a good side to the bowl. Nice place to grab cheap healthy meal quickly.

Went here for the first time last night for dinner with a friend after work after hearing about it earlier in the day from another friend. Walked in and loved that it was clean and bright. We were greeted and I told the person taking our order that it was our first time and asked her which had more, the bowl or the plate? She gave me all the info I needed and was really patient in answering all my questions and concerns. My friend treated me to dinner and it was over $ 20. They had a promo where if you spent over $ 10, you get a free backpack sling. She was kind and gave each of us one. $ 20 for a half&half bowl(steak&chicken) and(salmon&veggies) w/your choices of white/brown rice a can drink and a fountain drink… kinda pricey… but I thought it was worth it at the end when we got our bowls. I could barely finish it! The sauce mixture is just right for me. I didn’t have to add soy sauce to my rice. I just had to add hot sauce cuz I’m a hot sauce person. They also have hot carrots and jalapeños and green onions you can get for your liking. 4 stars because it took a long time to get our food. Other than that, I’ll be back!

I certainly like what they are doing here with their healthier look at food preparation. I stopped in for an early dinner after work and ordered their combo number one which consisted of a plate of teriyaki chicken and beef over brown rice, a side salad, and a side of fruit, which was only a wedge of an orange. I was a little disappointed with the fruit side, since their menu depicts a variety of slice fruits in the serving. Both the chicken and beef were well prepared and remained tender and moist. However, I did feel that the meats were a little over dressed in teriyaki sauce. They place a good amount of both over the brown rice. The brown rice was well steamed and nicely soaked up some of the flavors of the chicken and beef. I think next time, I will ask them to go light on the sauce. The salad was basic and did not come dressed. I was not sure whether that was intentional or not, but the greens, cabbage, and carrots were fresh. The half wedge of an orange, was well, just an orange. It would of been nice to have seen some apples, melon, and perhaps some orange as well. The young lady behind the counter was patient as I cruised the menu and eventually decided what I wanted. In the end, everything was okay and good.

The only thing I haven’t tried yet is the salmon but I will be eating that next time. The steak is so good I can’t even explain how yummy it is. Defiantly worth checking out I love a good rice bowl place.

Great healthy bowls! My new fav place to get a quick healthy fast food. It’s a bit of expensive and that’s why I give it 4 stars because I can’t see myself getting it for lunch couple times a week. However they do give you a 10% off student discount ;) staff is friendly and always willing to suggest good choices.

Amazing to say the least! Not too pricey for what you get and it was delicious! Clean restaurant with a nice aesthetic. Wish I had gotten a picture, but the food’s appearance was just as appealing as the taste. Yum!

I like it… You can get a bowl or a plate with a hefty serving of either white or brown rice, veggies and your protein of choice. The plate is served with salad and fruit and will run you 7 – 9 $ depending on your protein. The location is new, clean and small and street parking is hard to find but you can park in the building. I ordered the beef and chicken plate. I was disappointed in the beef, it wasn’t what was pictured but rather a chopped up thin scoopful of meat. Also, it was on the salty side but not terrible. The chicken was good and the veggies were cooked nicely. Overall, this seems like a good choice for a quick«healthy» meal. It’s low calorie, low fat and they claim to cook without any oils. Sounds good to me. Plus, they gave me some coupons so I’ll be back.

I live in the apartment complex attached to WaBa Grill so this place is super convenient for me. I have been to WaBa numerous times since its opening and I get the half steak half chicken bowl every time with white rice and green onions. It tastes amazing and the meat to rice proportion is perfect for me. The meat is always cooked to perfection and the employees are friendly and inviting. WaBa also offers Fivestars rewards which is cool and they have 10% student discounts which is even better! The food is always prepared in a very timely fashion and I leave full and extremely satisfied every time I eat there. I couldn’t have asked for a better establishment to have opened in the retail property at BLVD63! Next I need to try the shrimp and salmon plates :)

My boyfriend and I just got done working out and we had saw WaBa Grill nearby on our Unilocal search. We wanted something healthy and gave it a try. I got the chicken bowl and my boyfriend got the half & half with white rice.(Also have a choice of brown rice). It actually had a healthy portion on both meat and rice so that was good. I got the WaBa sauce on the side but didn’t really like it tho. I would definitely come back here again whenever I’m in the area.

Big portions. Good service. The hot sauce is no joke, hot as pure tobasco. I’m glad we a getting more options in the College area. I like the flavor of Roboto Grill’s food a bit better, but that probably because they use butter and this place doesn’t. I would eat here again.

Heading east on El Cajon Blvd on my way to Popeye’s I happened to see this place and figured that I would give them a try. It sounded healthy It was after 8 so thankfully the parking wasn’t a challenge. I would give this place 4 ½ stars if the would have paid a little more attention to detail. I ordered two items because I was starving. I first ordered half steak half chicken plate. I substituted the white rice for brown rice and that was wrong. Minor fail. I loved the portions and the meat was cooked well. I wish I could have replaced that half orange for more salad. I also ordered the half steak half chicken veggie bowl. What I got was a healthy portion of steak and chicken on a bed of white rice. Not a veggie in sight. I was a little more peeved by that, but since I’m a carnivore the amount of meat settled me. Still I would like to be able to get what I paid for. Lastly the special of the night was a free fountain drink with the purchase of a plate. I ordered the plate, but was not offered the free drink. If I didn’t happen to see the little sign posting the special after I sat down then I probably would have never known. I shouldn’t have had to go back up to the register and let the lady know that I purchased a plate so I need a cup for the soda. The food was good, and I will be back, but I hope to have veggies in my veggie bowl next time

The food was great! Had the half/half with veggies and it was really good. Had a coupon so it came out pretty cheap but the prices aren’t that high anyways for the amount they gave you. Very nice place inside with a lot of sitting and friendly customer service. The food did take a few more minutes than expected though

Waba Grill– Eat smart, be healthy! Location: street parking only. Very close to sdsu. The establishment is actually a store front to the newly built 32 Blvd apartments. Décor: small place with cool décor. Pictures posted of their food. Only one bathroom(unisex) Food: large portions! They have plates, bowls, and etc. Personally the steak was a little salty but the hot waba sauce was really good. Chicken was delicious! There are also have hot carrots with jalapeños! Free refills. This place was a little pricey. And reminded me very much of Flame Broiler. Approved for those tracking dem Macro! :-)
