I had the best time here. If you got here get the long duck dong. Also Seth is the all time best waiter I have ever had in my life. Today was my first time meeting him on a busy night and he handled our table like a trooper and made the best suggestions ever. I used to be a waitress and know what it takes to make a table happy and he exceeded all my expectations. Best resturant experience ever. I highly recommend this resturant. :)

I really like this place, the food and service are very good and I like the piece of mind knowing that what I’m eating isn’t cat or dog. It’s very trendy as is North Park so the name Wang’s is quite fitting because if you wear pants tight enough to show off your wang you will fit in nicely. Other than that the atmosphere is interesting and enjoyable. Ron Swanson

Great service. Good apps and drinks. Awesome décor. My orange chicken tastes like microwaved frozen bull**** – literally, the taste and texture was«(insert immature barf sounds)». My friend’s fish was really good though

Great atmosphere! Huge place! with a great ambiance. Great service too from a friendly blonde in the bar section… However, the food was mediocre for the price. Nothing too great for someone with a good palate. Would def return for a Happy Hour gathering!

This place is massive! It’s in an old JC Penney/Big Lots building and you’ll notice the striking department store-esque layout upon entering. If you’re looking for a good spot to host a large group of people, this is it. I had my wedding rehearsal dinner here and it was perfect. We had our own section of long tables off to the side and the service was quick and respectful. They even let us bring in Sprinkles Cupcakes for dessert at no cost! I still hear great things from guests. Food-wise, Wangs isn’t the most authentic Chinese place in the world, but it definitely has something to please everyone. My picky eater dad was happy with the sweet & sour chicken while my vegan friend was overwhelmed with almost too many options to choose from(a good thing!). I love their kung pao chicken which has a perfect balance of sweet and spicy, along with roasted peanuts, bell pepper, onion and lots of dried chillis in a caramelized soy sauce. Another nice choice if you like spice is the fire fish which is a white fish in a sherry/black bean sauce with fried ginger. Happy hour is daily from 3 – 7 with excellent mixed drink and beer specials(they have Sculpin for $ 5 need I say more?). There is also ½ off appetizers which makes the spring rolls affordable. I still get a twinge of guilt because they always ask do I want fresh or fried. I’m usually one for the healthier option, but when it comes to these little guys, I need it deep fried! Every bite is amazing and totally worth it. So to summarize– Great for groups. Great happy hour. Solid food.

More like 3.5 stars. I had been here 3 other times and received less than stellar service from a douche of waiter that thankfully, no longer looks like he’s employed here. Since I’m not one to pass out 1 – 3 star ratings freely, I felt it only fair to give them a few chances before giving my honest opinion on the food and service here. Still not very impressed, sad to say. I had come with a fellow Unilocaler to celebrate her birthday so with that in mind, I understand how it can be difficult to manage such a large group. That being said, I’ve dined at the busiest of restaurants with parties just as large and still received amazing, quick service with food arriving piping hot. What I ordered on this visit and in my other visits: Dim Sum-Lemon Grass Dumplings. Came out lukewarm, flavorful but a decent portion size Mongolian Beef: average and not much different than your hole in the wall Chinese restaurants; good nonetheless Beef and Shrimp Duet: this I enjoyed, just wished it came out piping hot. Tasty angus beef with shrimp in a garlic black bean sauce with baby bok choy. Definitely a fan. Chicken Lettuce Wraps: also not bad but not mind blowing either I do give 4 stars for the ambience and can appreciate the element of design and effort they put into the feel of the restaurant. I think with larger parties, service tends to lack a bit so I get it. 3.5 stars.

The food was probably 3.5 stars but the service was 1.5. It wasn’t bad, necessarily. Just very awkward. The waiter seemed very confused and out of it. Every interaction we had with him was bizarre. I felt like we were inconveniencing and confusing him every time we asked for something. I had the hot and sour soup, spicy edamame and the Kung Pao chicken. The soup was delicious. The edamame was tasty but very mushy. The chicken dish was nice but too salty. As another reviewer said, this place was basically PF Chang’s with less options. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you are seeking authentic Chinese. I guess I understand now why it was completely dead here. I’m sure there are better options around.

I had a pretty good experience here. It’s family style eats(which is great). We had the beef lomein, chicken wings(the seasoning/sauce was really good!), & great wangs chicken(pretty much sweet & sour chicken), fried chicken w/bacon. My overall experience was good. Nice waitress, I just feel like the food is typical Chinese American. I love the atmosphere inside, I could come here for drinks & apps all day. I love the décor, the music, the vibe. The food just didnt do it for me. I suggest everyone try it out! TIP– fri & sat they have late night happy hour til 1130p!!!

Wang’s is a fun place to go for upscale Chinese food, and it also has a great happy hour! This place is huge, and the bar section is nearly as large as the dining room. There’s also a cool upstairs area that’s used for dining and special occasions. I came here with my girlfriend for their 3-year anniversary celebration, and we had a great time! It was held upstairs and had flowing drinks and free appetizers for attendees. We expecially enjoyed the super-friendly bartender for this event, as he was very generous and helpful. The highlight of the evening was the Chinese Dragon dancers that weaved their way around both the downstairs and the upstairs area. I’ve also come here with some friends for a standard dinner, and we weren’t disappointed. I don’t remember exactly what we had, but we all enjoyed the food and service. My only complaint is that the food can be a bit pricey, so if you’re dining on a budget, the best deal is their happy hour specials.

Happy hour on Thursday Feb 5. The helper at the bar was using his hands to empty big jar of olives into the tray. He could have used a spoon? That was disgusting to see. We did not see him washing hands before doing that. And he continued doing other stuff. Otherwise, we like the place.

My review for Wangs is for dinner for a large group. Our friend, Elite Unilocaler Nette picked this place for Birthday dinner with several of her friends(and what a lot of friends!). My last visit has been a while and it was for Happy Hour. A lot has changed since that last visit. The décor seems more open and much better organized in the dining room than several years ago. The restaurant has been successful in it’s location for a couple of years now. We came during one of their busiest time on a Saturday night. Décor is fine and the menu is wide with combinations of traditional Chinese items and some fusion plus a large selection of drinks. There is always a menu for the day that highlights specials. Note that their Happy hour is only until 7 pm(starts when it opens). With a large group, I am sure that our waiter was a bit overwhelmed. Instead of being enthusiastic and welcoming, he seemed a bit confused. It didn’t help that Unilocalers tend to check-in and see that they can get a free Edamame with their meal(limit 1 per table we were told). With at least 8 people in our table, we were guaranteed to taste different dishes. The starters including the edamame(regular and spicy) plus the fried string beans were almost free. Our host, Tupac(Nette’s roomie) had ordered the string beans for our table. Oh yeah there were 32 plus people and we occupied a pretty large area of the restaurant but we were surprisingly not as boisterous despite having some drinks. Drink review — Asian Paradise — taste great — pricey for a cocktail but typical in any restaurant. Food review — fried string beans standout, edamame ok. I ordered the Mandarin pork which was fine but served cold. As I mentioned we ordered several dishes which we shared family style. Some dishes came hot and my order came cold. some came salty and some were delicious. I didn’t read the menu carefully but I wasn’t sure if the rice comes or not(although who eats those dishes without any rice). I can understand that noodles and fried rice will not come with rice but it was all confusing. As I mentioned the waiter was not exactly an expert in getting orders and explaining what comes or doesn’t come with it. Overall impression is to go during Happy Hour if you don’t want to pay the high prices for chinese food. Some dishes were more successful than others. Atmosphere was fine. Service was mixed. No complaints about water getting filled but as I mentioned, the waiter seemed overwhelmed. See you during HH next time, dinner not so much. I had 2 drinks, an appetizer, an entrée and it was 43 bucks without tax or tip. Since there were busboys etc. I gave 60 to cover the whole thing. P. S. I wasn’t hungry after wards… lol!

2.5 stars The service is solid but the kitchen is the weak link. It was a great start. The two hostesses and manager were friendly and welcoming. Our reservation was handled very well, and when we arrived, we were promptly seated. Our server was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the food was underwhelming. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t memorable. Rosemary-mint laced grass fed lamb Dim Sum: Oh man, I love lamb! We chose to pan fry the dumplings and I was pleasantly surprised. Despite the lamb being moist in some dumplings and a tad dry in others, I would order this again. Kickin’ Chicken Wings: The wings are lathered in a Korean barbecued sauce and served with wasabi blue cheese dressing. The wings were good but nothing to rave about. Not spicy enough for me. Fire Island Fish: I enjoyed this dish. Light and tender white fish fillets cooked in a black bean sauce and fried ginger. Bacon/Cilantro Fried Rice: Horrible. The rice comes with pineapple bits, jalapeño, onion and bell peppers in a citrus soy sauce. The bits of pineapple were sour almost to the point of rancid. I was expecting crispy and smokey bits of bacon but to my dismay the bacon was rubbery and mostly fat. The texture of the rice ranged from soft to hard. Looking back, I have no excuse for not sending this dish back. Overall, Wang’s was disappointing. Service was great, the vibe was awesome but the food failed like the Seattle Seahawks on the one yard line at the Superbowl.

We decided to come by for a date night! The food was delicious. We enjoyed an appetizer of cashew lettuce wraps; then followed it up with Szechuan green beans and bean curd along with a spicy eggplant dish. The only challenge I had with most of the wines we sampled were sweet. Thursday night is half off all wine bottle purchases! Had we found the wine that I enjoyed we would’ve taken advantage of that great offer. This is definitely a place we will return too.

And here I thought there were no good chinese food places in San Diego. I had passed this place numerous times while driving through North Park and for some strange reason, I assumed it was a department store. That was until my husbands cousin moved into the area and invited us there. The SD newbie showed this SD native some stuff! The place is huge! The have a large bar area and there is a good mix of people. Young and old, business professionals and even a few hipsters. We started off with appetizers, chicken lettuce cups and beer battered green beans with a creamy dipping sauce. My toddler isn’t a picky eater and loves veggies but I was really surprised at how much she loved the lettuce cups! She has even requested that I make some at home! We chose to order a bunch of plates and share. We got friend rice and two types of noodles, garlic and lo-mein, both very good. Then we ordered the beef and broccoli, honey walnut shrimp, orange peel shrimp, and my favorite the mongolian beef! It was all very tasty but I was a little bummed that we didn’t have a lot of left overs!

Ate here last night with my boyfriend! We had originally planned to go to the chop suey restaurant but didn’t realise they closed at 9pm! Fortunately this worked out excellent for us as we thoroughly enjoyed every bit of our meal here at Wangs! We got the chicken lettuce wraps to start followed by the Kung pao chicken and hoisin pork! All our dishes were so tasty! The hoisin pork was only on the monthly feature menu but hopefully they will add it to the main as it was so nice! Our waiter was very attentive and he took great care of us but he had a male blond pony tailed side kick who cleared the plates and he really looked like he just needed a big hug! I hope he gets it soon to put a Smile on his face!!! Overall food was great and very well priced, would definitely return again!!!

Came in here during the World Cup because all the restaurants near the jumbo screen were packed. It a little dim in the restaurant, but they were showing the game on the wall through a projector. We ordered some food and everything we had was delicious. We ordered the North Park Veggies Rolls because you can’t not have veggie rolls when eating Chinese food, some Jalapeño Shrimp, Ahi/Avo Poke, and some Chicken Orange Peel. The restaurant is very large with high ceilings and they have an upstairs bar area. The food was pretty good and our server was very friendly. The only thing I didn’t like was that when the calamari came out the serving portion was much smaller than expected. Other than that, we really enjoyed our meal here at Wang’s.

I deleted my 20123 Star review even though I had a lot of votes from my fellow Unilocalers. I guess after tonight, I felt that Wangs deserved some respect based on the experience my husband and I had tonight. I personally should be thanking Wang’s for an absolutely fun time tonight. It would be irresponsible of me to not mention that my husband and I, especially my husband who has lived here for 23 years as a long time resident was a bit put off by this place. So our review, much like any other review in this area are based on week nights when we local«vampires» as my friend Jack likes to call us creep and crawl out of our week night coffins to enjoy, imbibe and delight in our neighborhood haunts before the element that rolls up in this neighborhood on weekends appear. My husband and I ordered dinner, we were, for a split second disappointed that the«oodles of noodles» not it’s real name had«run out» really? I don’t how that happens since this place was pretty dead but not the end of the world really. We ordered the delicious cold noodle dish with spicy peanut sauce and I ordered fried brown rice with bean curd. They give you a ton of food, I had to do 75 Jumping Jacks when I got home and run up and down our stairs to add another 1500 steps to my Fitbit to burn that meal. I really, really liked their house Chardonnay at 4.00 a glass, whoever picked that one gets major props as it paired very, very nicely with my husband’s sweet and spicy cold noodle dish. I had to take the rest of the fried rice home, I have shrimp in the fridge and organic carrots with green onions hello dinner tomorrow. Of course we were there for Sunset Trivia!!! It was gorgeous up in the Tree House Room, full table service courtesy of the lovely Jessica who walked by often to fill our drinks oh and did I mention that if you play trivia, it’s Happy Hour until 9:00 pm??? Plus appetizers, you bet your sweet arse that Ima gonna tell my friends! By the way, we are the Below Average Joes, we are usually Boo Poo at Bluefoot but the«Joe’s» could use some TLC so if you are new to the area, shy and nerdy, we aren’t perv’s we just need more team members, holler at us next week at Wang’s. Thank you Wang’s, my husband and I enjoyed your venue and food. :) Signed, The Weekday Night Diner ahem not Dinner but Diner! LOL!

Wangs SD: North Park 7pm Friday 25th April 2014 Four Stars We met up for a quasi Triple Date with some gym friends and their significant others. Some of use ordered drinks. We had some awkward conversation. We ordered dinner. They have a big gluten-free menu. KatieO and I ordered the Coconut Chicken Curry and Broccoli Beef. The Curry was more Indian than Thai but overall it was tasty. The Coconut Sauce went well with the white rice and the Potatoes, Carrots, and Onions. The Broccoli Beef was simply made and simply delicious. The Menu says Oyster Sauce which is normally not Gluten-Free but I guess I trust them. The portions were on the small side but the price was terribly expensive so it worked out. The service was good. Overall, it was a good experience.
