Two Stars for the fact that this was the old location for the Front Room. In fact, a few months back I was watching Dirty Harry(1973) on AMC, and I was suprised to see the Front Room in one of the movies car chase scenes. Its a shame that this location is not in use. The original front room corner restaurant had decent pizza and a basic american menu. The burger was satisfying if you were in a pinch. It was an old school san francisco pizza joint providing cheap beer and a casual hang out for those who lived in the nob hill coorridor. Plenty of drama and funny antics were common place here. (Please note: The Front Room is now under new ownership down the block on California street in a little alley space next to the california dreaming bar/opium den.) There are a couple brazilians in the ownership group and they have a cool menu with Brazilian pizzas and dishes. Just a tip.

This might be Luisa Hanson’s worst scam yet. Any idiot knows that a restaurant that has yet to be opened couldn’t be «Since 1959» Ugh.

How funny. I thought I might be the first to Unilocal this one, but alas… there are others that have beat me to it. I am also wondering a big WTF every time I walk past this place. I was seriously bitter after the Front Room and Barleycorn went away. I learned that Luisa Hanson took over the lease and got rid of both — that seriously sucks. I had been going to both places for years and liked them both a lot. Not the best ever but a true SF feel to both and I liked the pie at Front Room quite a bit. Oh and by the way, Front Room is now no longer — I guess their roof caved in or something in their little 6 foot wide alley location they were forced to relocate to, but they threw in the towel and as far as I know they’re done. I will give 1500 a try when, if ever, it opens. I do wonder what could take 6 months to build inside — it can’t be that fancy, it’s just the Tendernob. I also agree that it is misleading to advertise this place as «since 1959». Hello? How about«since 2008» if that happens? Get real. She will probably steal the Front Room’s ideas though, stage a beer night or two and soon it will be packed with forgiving, beer guzzling loud ass yups. Oh well.

Not sure when Luisa Hanson plans on opening this place, but she has not been there since 1959 as she claims on the awning. Maybe she purchased a bunch of ingredients that year and has been saving them to serve here? Yuck.

I believe i will not go here. Have just read too much about this owner and it just seems like she has had too many situations of bad business practices. I also think that with none of her restaurants /etc. lasting all that long, it speaks to the ‘flip it’ mentality. I just think SF is worthy of owners /managers running businesses that last.

You might think this is merely a new name for The Front Room(which served pizza & pasta at this location from 1968 – 2007). It is not. The Front Room was kicked out by the building’s new owner(Luisa Hanson of Luisa’s on Union St.) in 2007, and in 2008 she’s opening this joint that has supposedly been open since 1959. If you’re looking for the Front Room, it’s still in business – at 1550 California(next to the Lumiere Theatre). It is still serving amazing pizza. Avoid 1500 – not only have they not been open since 1959, the owner hasn’t had *any* of her restaurants continually operating since that time, and her flagship restaurant on Union was actually closed by the Health Department recently for a major infestation by roaches/mice. Ew!
