First timers ! Siracha tots were BOMB ! the burgers were mediocre they’re good but I’ve had better and it’s pretty expensive for just a regular burger

I was looking forward to eating here because the pizza place next door with a similar concept is amazing, but I was underwhelmed with my experience here. The burger was good but it is not like Blaze where you can get unlimited toppings for no extra charge. Built charges. The burger is $ 7 alone(regular beef patty) and you can get lettuce, tomatoes, onions etc. But if you want bacon, mushrooms, egg or avocado its a dollar more. The reason people probably keep going here is because it is like the only burger place in the mall(though there is no mall entrance). The fries were a small quantity and about one step up from Mcdonald’s. To conclude: Not worth the $ 10+ dollars no matter how pretty the inside is.

Average and spendy. So I am still confused why a milkshake and fries/tater tots took longer to make than my assembly line order burger that literally was slower than a snail crawling for its life. The tater tots were salty as hell. The fries were greasy and soggy. The milkshake was melted and I watched them make it while holding my burger, fries and tater tots. The burger itself was nothing special. I waited in a very long line. I ordered from the large menu. I waited for my shake and fries while holding my burger in a bag — trying not to be in the way of other people at the register. This was unnecessary chaos. I don’t get it. I do not get why people like this place. For me? I can get a great burger without all this fuss elsewhere. I did not enjoy what I ate. I did not find it worth the money I paid. The decorative garage door in lieu of a wall doesn’t touch the structural building foundation wall so the cold wind was whipping around where we were sitting… making us cold… while eating a not so great meal. Shrugs. *Update* The owner sent me a thoughtful private message apologizing for my experience. He also shared the beef here is unlike most quick order burger places in that it is natural, antibiotic and hormone free. In the spirit of fairness I wanted to share that with you.

Out of all the options outside of the Stonestown, I was drawn to Built because there was an interesting ad on the mall door that said«burger in a bowl.» It was also one of the less busy restaurants on the street. When I went in, I decided not to get the bowl because when I asked about it, they said that it was just a salad with a patty on top lol… This place had the style where you go down the counter and choose the things you want on your burger. They had a fair selection to choose from and even a choice of different buns. I was also able to choose from around a dozen type of sauces. I decided on a beef burger with the brioche bun, garlic aioli sauce, and different veggie toppings. The burger was $ 7 but they also have a few other toppings that can be added for an extra dollar. I added bacon. Our food took around 10 minutes to come but I was fairly satisfied with how large the burger was. It was very filling and the beef was cooked well. My boyfriend ordered tater tots as well and they were so crispy and delicious, considering the fact that I’m not a big fan of them usually. Definitely recommend that as a side! They also offer 10% discount for students when you show them your school id. Only downside was that when my boyfriend was almost done with his burger, he realized that they never added his avocado, which costed an extra dollar. Due to the fact that he was almost finished with it, he just didn’t mention it.

It’s nice there’s more options to eat at Stonestown nowadays, but Built Custom Burgers is kinda disappointing. I like the concept of building my own burger to fit my taste, but it was still lacking something. The burger was done to my liking but it wasn’t flavorful, even though I ordered it with chipotle aioli, an egg, and all the other relevant toppings. For a more ‘healthier’ alternative, you can add $ 1 more and make it a bowl. Or, you can go next door to Blaze and build something tastier.

Despite having written my fair share of reviews, I can’t think of many places that I’ve come across that are as seemingly divisive as Built appears to be. Nearly as many two stars as five stars? Almost as many one stars as four stars? Yet, despite such varied opinions, I can actually understand why people rated them as they did(though a little less so with the five stars…). Following Chipotle’s footsteps, Built is another in the wave of assembly line-style, fast-casual eateries opening up in the Bay Area. As their name suggests, in addition to ordering one of their preset offerings, you get to build a burger as you see fit, limited only by their selection(of buns, meats/patties, and toppings) and your budget(some items have upcharges). That said, it’s unfortunate that you can’t choose how you want your patty cooked, though I get why(presumably to standardize the cooking time/process and to avoid issues with undercooked food). For my order, I opted to get the BEEFBURGER($ 7.00) on a Brioche Bun with Cheddar, Red Onions, Lettuce, Avocado(+$ 1.00), Fried Egg(+1.00), Applewood Bacon(+$ 1.00), and Garlic Aioli with a side of Tater Tots($ 2.25). On the whole, the burger wasn’t bad. The patty had a decent char and the egg wasn’t overcooked(which was surprising). Plus, not only was the bacon thicker and meatier than I had expected, but the brioche bun was actually fairly impressive(very soft and airy). Now, given all of that, it might seem odd to give Built just two stars. In part, it’s because they’re a little pricey(fries aren’t included), the burger was cooked«well done»(I prefer medium), the tots weren’t all that crispy/tasty(though they looked the part), and service was a little rough(the workers were friendly, but my friend’s order didn’t come out right despite repeating it). However, the bigger(and primary) reason is that the burger was incredibly salty; with nearly every bite, I was taking sips of my drink. If not for all that sodium, Built would easily be a three star spot. However, I could see why others would give this a four; the concept is fun, if not gimmicky, and a bit of a novelty. It’s just that, in this case, they missed the mark a bit. Still, considering the relatively underwhelming alternatives in the area, as well as the fact they’re one of the few places by Stonestown that stays open late(until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays), you could do worse. TWOAND A HALFSTARS rounded down.

1 star for effort and the 2nd star is for the understaffed, overly worked employees who tried their very best to fulfill everyone’s orders. Another fun concept, but poorly executed. The patties and fries are cooked in the kitchen in the back, so you pretty much have to wait till your patty with your selection of cheese cooks before you can add any toppings. It holds up the line. The toppings are pretty standard, except the night I went, the ingredients didn’t look too fresh as they were kind mixed up and cross contaminated. They ran out of avocados and I was pretty bummed. The sauce you choose is only spread on the top of the burger bun and not on both. Its really just a pile of food thrown together. The employees were very nice, and kept their cool even though there was a long line out the door and they looked clearly understaffed and stressed out during a dinner rush.

Not the best burger I’ve ever had but you get what you pay for. Under $ 10 you get something pretty reasonable. My personal favorite would be a patty on a bowl of mixed greens. Many topping and majority of them are free. I think the only ones the charge for are avocado, bacon, and grilled mushrooms. Even then I think its worth it!

Tonight, I’ve decided to head to Built in order to try one burger the workers made from my choices. Step 1: vegan veggie Step 2: gluten-free buns Step 3: blue cheese Step 4: avocados The rest is how I wanted in my burger. I have no problem with the taste of the burger. The only problem is my order went trailing behind. This is what customer service has done. The metal frier looked greasy but sticky. Perhaps, the workers spend time hastening orders without cleaning the frier. Even if I’m one of the first few customers in line to place my order, others behind me get theirs before me. After paying for one burger, I still have to wait for the arrival of cheese topped patty. I know it’s frustrating for customers who wanted to have a quick lunch. Unlike them, I’m totally relaxed. Hopefully, Built’s customer service will improve before my second visit.

I was really looking forward to being able to get a burger after school with some friends without having to go all the way to Daly City for In and Out, I was super disappointed. Probably the worst customer service I have ever had 1. While there were three of us being the only people in the establishment it took us over half an hour for the last person to get food, the first two of us were already finished by the time the last person got their food. 2. It wasn’t clean, my burger was put on dirty counter and I had to act like a demanding customer asking for one that wasn’t unsanitary. 3. The employees got my order wrong even though I circled the ingredients, they asked me what I wanted, and I told them as they were making it. And my meat was cold by the time they finished. I would eat here if maybe if the employees were actually trained and if I was starving to death.

I was craving a mean cheeseburger so I decided to try Built, a new burger joint at Stonestown mall. Seems like a pretty good concept of custom burgers, sorta like Chipotle but for burgers. There were many add-ons to choose from for an additional cost, a bit pricey if you want to add bacon, egg, sautéed mushrooms and such… I got the one patty burger on their signature brioche bun with Tillamook cheddar cheese, bacon and egg. I was so excited since egg on anything is bound to be good. The patty was nicely cooked and was topped with melted cheese and the egg. I cut into the burger awaiting for my fried egg to burst and ooze with its beautiful golden yolk, but nothing happened. They tragically overcooked my egg. What a let a down!!! On a better note, the bacon was a legit crispy bacon not one of those extra thin almost invisible type and the garlic tater tots were pretty good. Perfectly crisp and bursting with garlic flavor. The employees were also friendly and helpful. My first impression on this place is… Meh! It’s promising, but sadly their fried egg-game is NOT on point.

Got charged $ 11.32 for nothing. We get there and order a salad with a side of garlic fries. After having mixed the salad and paid for the order, we were made to wait for our garlic fries and meat for the salad. Then the staff from the kitchen comes out to inform us that they ran out of garlic fries. Ran. Out. Of. Garlic. Fries. Ok… We had already paid. Now you let us know. What… They offer to add garlic aioli to the regular fries instead. What the actual… no, that won’t be necessary. We actually were here just to try the garlic fries. So we decided we wanted out. They told us that they would just cancel the order and my credit card would be charged back. I try to hand them back my credit card because the order was already paid for and then this genius tells me she won’t be needing that. Ok… It has been 3 weeks and I still haven’t received my $ 11.32 back from this place. What a rip off, I paid to have my time wasted, and no food. The absolute worst experience as a customer. Negative stars if I could.

I came here earlier today around 5:30−6PM ish. My boyfriend & I were pretty excited to try this new place, as we saw signs advertising it all over the mall. I mean, build your own burger? Who wouldn’t want that? And note that we were originally planning to go to Red Robin, but this place was right outside the mall so we thought, why not? We walked in & there was no line. Not that many people eating there either. Nice, no wait. The cashier greeted us with a smile and was pretty friendly, one star for that. However, once we ordered a bunch of other people started pouring in & the staff was totally unorganized. Despite the fact that we were all in an orderly line, they continuously mixed up our orders. «Who ordered this? Wait. This is yours?» It was all a bit frustrating when we were all clearly in order. It’s not hard to keep your orders in order. Next, we chose our toppings. Everything looks like it’s been sitting there all day. The mushrooms were just laying there, the lettuce looked wilted and dead. Didn’t look fresh at all. I asked for ranch on my burger and the lady literally put the tiniest bit of ranch possible. How am I supposed to taste it? My boyfriend & I both ordered two regular burgers with a side of fries & the total came out to nearly $ 30. How ridiculous! I understand that they charge extra for toppings but really? If I’m paying that much for my burger it better be amazing. We sat down. Fries were good. Nothing disappointing there. They had the perfect crisp, crunch, & saltiness. The burger on the other hand– BIGGESTDISAPPOINTMENTOFMYLIFE. First of all, I’ve never eaten such a greasy burger in my life. Everything was all over the place. Imagine ordering a double patty. Yikes. Second, the mushrooms inside my burger were cold. What the hell? And when I asked the lady if I could just cancel my fountain drink & get water instead she didn’t even look me in the eyes. She just told me to «wait» and walked away. Well shit. Don’t come here if you’re looking for a good burger place. You’re better off going to McDonalds and getting a Big Mac. Glad I could say I tried it, but I am NEVER coming back. Biggest rip off ever. Save yourself the trip & the money.

Service was prompt and friendly. They accommodated our requests well and had no problem with them. I even saw another customer request that the burger assembly worker change their gloves before making their burger and they obliged promptly and friendly while the customer was a little snarky even in her request. We received our burgers pretty decently timed. Not the fastest service but not slow either. I got a turkey burger on a whole wheat bun which I found delicious in my own creation. Cooked perfectly and fresh. My husband got a beef burger in his own creation with an egg. He said it was delicious as well and cooked perfectly. We both got tator tots which were seasoned very well and hot. Nice and crunchy. A little over 23 got us a nice lunch with one drink. I’ve tried a location in an airport before and I’ve been craving it ever since. Will possibly visit again when we’re back in the area. Plus military discount available if you ask!

I came here last night with one of my friends for a quick bite and catch up session. I said I wanted something healthy but my friend did not want to go that direction lol. Good thing Built has something for everyone!!! I got the Veggie Vegan Organic Greens Bowl because I try to do Meatless Mondays and I like to torture myself by not eating bread… My bowl was still very very good! Delish I must say for someone who isn’t even a vegetarian! My friend built the biggest Beef Burger ever though! He ordered it on a brioche bun & he added everything possible — bacon/avocado/fried egg/and all that good stuff! Sriracha fries too! Both the garlic and chipotle aioli are amazinggg! I’ll def be back here and hopefully sooner than later!

Taste:9/10 Ambience: 7⁄10 Service: 9⁄10 Price: 8⁄10 Value for money: 9⁄10 Alright, I seem to be more excited then the general consensus, which is surprising because I can be quite pessimistic, especially towards a food establishment associated with a shopping mall. Maybe this place was just the thing this day to snap me out of the anguish of the going over the hill to the Avenues and even worse… said shopping mall. The business model of building your own hamburger with the creative and well organized«steps» to do it was unique. First picking type of bun, meat, toppings, sauces, etc was fun. The burger meat was delicious and all the toppings were snap crisp fresh. The clerk attending to us at the order counter was efficient and appeared happy to help us, despite my lunch companion’s much change of mind and delay. We also had the garlic fries which were very delicious and better than those over-rated ball park fries especially given at a third of the price. After you’ve place your order you pick a spot and they will bring you order to the table. We got ours just after a few minutes of sitting. The eating area could have been a little more inviting but was otherwise clean and maintained. There is also outdoor seating for summer days. If I am taken hostage to the Avenues again, I will definitely be back for another burger.

This place seems really poorly managed. The staff means well but they don’t know how to answer questions, when asked how does this work, any other options, and finally what’s your favorite, the guy pointed to the board and said«follow the steps» 3 times. Turns out they had wings… Who would have known? Place is dirty and ingredients didn’t look or taste very fresh. I’ve never contemplated bailing on an order at the register. Also they built the burger upside down, veggies on bottom, burger on top. Fail.

Love this concept. Build a burger in a bowl! The ultimate in carb-free, Protein/Atkins style! Good diet food. First visit I had the grass-fed beef with mixed greens and romaine, Add pepper jack cheese. Yes please to carrots strings, cucumbers, olives, pickles, bacon, tomatoes, red pepper, and dijon balsamic. Yum. 2nd time I went for the same but had the turkey burger instead(everyone loved the turkey), it was just as delicious as the beef(which is a high compliment from a red meat lover).

Building a custom burger? I like the idea! Today is actually my second time coming here for lunch. I will have to try the burgers next time. I absolutely love how everything is set up. Someone mentioned a good point which I highly agree with. As with the custom burrito and pizza places popping up, seeing new additions is always a good thing. This is the custom burger joint and indeed a welcoming addition to restaurants at Stonestown Galleria. Building a custom burger is brilliantly creative and innovative thinking. Certainly props to the person or group who came up with this genius idea. Here are some of the items I have ordered so far: — Tater Tots — French Fries — Vanilla Milkshake The tater tots are crispy and delicious, French fries were also delicious. I really like how they prepare the food and milkshakes once customers’ orders are recorded. I have to admit the food does come out fast, which is always a major plus. Some reasons for the rating: — Clean Facility — Good Food — Good Service — Convenient Location 12÷6÷2015: Beef & Cheddar Burger with Bacon & Lettuce on a Brioche Bun is absolutely delicious. The Shoestring style French fries and Chocolate Milkshake pairs very well with my burger. Overall, the burger I had was very delicious and I am craving for another one while editing this review. I am definitely coming back again for those burger cravings.

Love the brioche bun! A fun way to enjoy a burger, although don’t get too excited like me and end up with a burger that literally is too big and can’t fit your mouth in one bite! It can get pretty pricey if you’re adding premium toppings, but those are all the good stuff(bacon, avocado, mushrooms, fried egg, etc). Of the standard toppings, I do recommend adding some cranberries to have a nice sweetness to your burger! For sauces, I went for garlic aioli and I couldn’t even taste it, so next time I’m definitely asking for more than one sauce, as I felt my burger was actually kind of bland. Also, they have this awesome way of wrapping your burger so that it’s all snugly situated and won’t fall apart when opening — remember to take the white flap out first and you should be good! Service was so unwelcoming, from the very first frowned greeting at the cashier, to the rest of the staff down the line. Maybe some additional training on how to make a burger(i.e. when asking for two tomatoes, why pile the two slices on top of each other. How about spreading them to disperse them??) or some common customer service etiquette would be nice, so I don’t feel like I’m an inconvenience when asking which toppings I want… because I’m sorry to break it to you but you DO work in a CUSTOM-built burger place(aka the title of your restaurant)!!! Of the sides, definitely give the tater tots and garlic fries a try! The garlic fries are very strong… which I like =) and tater tots are… c’mon. they’re tater tots. little lumps of fried starchy goodness! I have yet to try the sriracha fries but I’m very interested to do so. Sweet potato fries and regular fries are pretty standard.

Happy camper! I’m usually not a burger person but will be returning. Two custom burgers($ 7 each) and fries came out to be around $ 20 with a 10% off student discount(which is almost the same price you would pay for a meal at mcds). Customize-able meat, bun, cheese, toppings, and sauce. I ordered a beef burger with a brioche bun and paid a $ 1 extra for the sauteed mushrooms which was worth it. The topping varieties included organic greens, lettuce, cranberries, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, a hardboiled egg and more. I tried the garlic aioli and the chipotle aioli sauces. The burger became very big but not difficult to eat because they wrap it in paper for you. Next time I will ask for more sauce, because some bites were a bit bland. Also tried the garlic fries and the tator tots which were both delicious. I’ll be back to try more sauces and get the fries again. Overall, a solid burger place to go to and one of the better food options at Stonestown.

BUILTTOFAIL! I can’t believe there were only two people in line and yet it still took 20 minutes from the order taking person, who was extremely rude by the way. Me: «Are the Siracha fries really spicy?» Her: «What do YOU think?» Me: «I’m not sure, since these are fries and I’ve never had Siracha fries before.» Her: «Order them next time then, and get something else today.» Wow – what a RUDE woman. She shouldn’t be in customer service, or service of any sort. So I ordered their Gator BBQ burger and they neglected to tell me that even though the burger is as is(I understood that, BBQ sauce, bacon, cheese, which can’t be changed), that also means YOUCANNOT add even lettuce or tomatoes to it!!! Are you kidding me? So I said I was willing to pay extra for it, and they said no. Wow, what rudeness. So the guy in front of me was arguing with them about his toppings too since he got unlimited toppings yet they wouldn’t give him two sauces. Isn’t unlimited meaning he can choose anything? This place is built to fail. So a burger with garlic fries cost me a little under $ 19. What rip off. Oh and my burger was very raw. Hope you can see it in my picture. Then I found out after the fact that you can actually request how well done you wanted the burger, of course that rude ordering woman never told me that. Awful, awful place. Which reminds me… I need to write a letter to the manager about this place.

Wanted to grab something to eat after class but didn’t wanna eat at school. Came here at around 1 before the rush came in. It’s cool that you get to build your own burger like subway style… but it’s kinda pricey. I got a burger and put my own toppings in there as well as tater tots and a drink. It’s cool that there’s a student discount as well! I mean I put my own toppings in there but it tasted pretty good. The patty was cooked well and the tater tots were crisp and nice. Idk if I would come here that often because of the price but at least I got to try this place out!

By the mall. My brother and i decided to go here since we had couple coupons for this pace. Theres couple cashiers. The first one would be the one where you built your burger. They will ask for your name since thats the name you’ll have to give at the second cashier. Step 1 is the meat you want, step 2 is the buns, step 3 is the cheese, step 4 is extra toppings(non veggies) which cost $ 1 for each item, step 5 is the drinks, step 6 us the sides. After you know what you want, they toast your buns and then you pick which veggies and the sauces you want in your burger before they put the patty in the burger. Then you pay at the end at the second cashier. The burger was cool average burger. Decent size burger.

Choices, choices, so many choices! I came here kind of starving so all the choices stressed me out. So tip: come here when you aren’t starving! How it works: 1. Pick your bun. I chose the brioche, it was pretty good. 2. Choose your meat: turkey, beef, etc 3. Choose a side(if desired) for more $: fries, wings 4. The burger slides down to the next person and you get to load it up with unlimited toppings: lettuce, onions, pickles, etc. Some are extra $ like the mushrooms. 5. Choose a sauce: There’s a ton! I went with the chipotle one. It was pretty good. 6. Pay at the end of the line. Overall, a good standard burger. Prices are around $ 7. The garlic fries and wings(bbq & sweet sriracha) were pretty good as well. Compared to other burger places? Better than Mc Donald’s! Maybe not so much better than Super Duper. Or in-n-out for the price. But still, a good solid okay burger!

Whoever thought of this idea is a genius! The burger I had was super yummy! That garlic and chipotle aioli sauce is amazeballs. Boiled eggs, cranberries and greens instead of plain ol lettuce as toppings? Oh yeah! The sweet sriracha sauce is too soggy. It was basically drenched in sriracha sauce thus it’s also too spicy. Theres no crispiness in the fries anymore. Sad. But $ 1 for avocado and othe prime toppings? Im not sure about that. How much avocado can you put on top a patty anyway? Bring your own avocado! There’s also restrooms inside. Total with extra side of fries comes to about $ 9. Not bad at all for a big ass burger!

True Story: I was walking towards Blaze Pizza after reading the Unilocal Reviews. «I mean… a vegan pizza sounds good,» I thought to myself, «but what I’m really craving is a veggie burger… especially if it’s from The Counter.» I arrive at the Blaze and see a huge banner flying next door«Built Custom Burger!( by The Counter) OPENNOW!» What. In a stroke of purest coincidence, the veggie burger gods have answered my prayers! Unlike The Counter, Built is a build-as-you-go and order at the counter kind of place. It’s meant to be quick and simple. The experience was anything but. They have a great idea, but POORLY executed. So you go up to the counter and a woman at the cashier greets you. You tell her what protein you want, what cheese, if you want any premium toppings, what fries you want and what drink you want. It’s long, tedious, and she had to ask me many questions. Also, you don’t pay her! Weird. Then, she grills the buns, and you go on to the toppings area. Here, you let them know what kind of toppings you want. But be careful not to choose premium toppings! If you didn’t want them earlier and you do now, then it’s too late. Then, workers are coming from the kitchen area trying to match protein to the correct buns and fries to the right tray. There was only 3 of us in line but it was hectic. But wait! There’s more! FINALLY you reach the end where you pay. Oh, you forgot ketchup packets? You were suppose to ask for it on the line. Where’s my cup of water? AHHHHHHSOFRUSTRATING. This is the most poorly executed method of «chipotle style» ordering ever. It took WAY too long. It was WAY too confusing. And it was WAY to complicated. If it works like this all the time, it will only get worse as it gets more popular. Be prepared to wait 15 minutes in line for your burger. Mind as well go to a sit down restaurant. A better solution? Get rid of that first cashier. Do it The Counter old school style! Put out papers and pencils where you can mark your choices minus the unlimited toppings. Ring it up. Then go down the line and choose your toppings. Bam. OR. Do it Chipotle style! Go down the line, choose all your toppings and sides. Pay at the end. Wait for milkshakes if you ordered it. The employees are in charge of what protein you chose so they can ring you up accordingly at the end. Terrible execution aside, the burger was terrific. The vegan veggie patty is the same at The Counter. Delicious and full of grains and veggies. The Whole Wheat bun is vegan friendly. Just make sure they don’t butter it up when they grill it. I love the burgers and I will come back whenever I crave The Counter so I don’t have to trek all the way to Fremont of San Jose. But the set up is so bad I don’t want to risk coming here when it’s busy!

Memory association is one of the worst things ever! Like when you really liked a place, but you can’t go back because you used to go there all the time with your ex and would just think about him every time you go. That’s how I feel like if I went to Built, and if it was amazing. But, nonetheless I’m not sure if I could go back, because I missed their one little dip separating the dining area from near the door. Why do restaurants do this? Anyways, this happened after we ordered and I just washed my hands before eating in the bathroom. Who I speculated was one of the owners came over to me and asked if I was okay, I said yes, because all though it hurted to sprain my ankle, it wasn’t that painful and I was able to walk to over where my fiancé was sitting. Anyways onto the review. You choose your protein and your toppings from their semi limited toppings station, they do have a good amount of sauces to choose from though. Premium toppings, such as sautéed mushrooms, bacon and avocado are $ 1 extra. Protein includes beef, chicken breast, turkey or veggie. For buns they only had a choice of brioche bun, wheat or gluten free. Wish they had like a choice of more breads like ciabatta. You can also choose to get a bowl which you choose from mixed greens or lettuce. I chose a chicken breast sandwich with cheddar, cucumbers, greens, red peppers, grilled onions and tomato with garlic aioli in the brioche bun. We shared and order of the garlic fries. Wait time was only a few minutes after we finished at the end of the line. That’s when I went to the bathroom to wash my hand. then the incident happened. Anyways, after that, we got to eat. The chicken breast was huge but on the dry side. Definitely messy to eat. The grilled onions had a nice flavor but they were diced pretty small. Cheese was nicely melted, the garlic aioli was a little too subtle. I had a bite of his burger and it was better than my chicken(he also got the garlic aioli sauce). The garlic fries were okay but pretty greasy and not heavy on the garlic. Our meal was $ 20 and change total. Service was friendly and they move fast and the process is efficient. But no way can they compete with the counter. The counter just has a lot of options and taste wise is better. It’s not a bad option for the mall, but I wasn’t impressed, and I’m a little scarred from the ankle sprain. Rounding up to a 3 though.

ALL beef burgers are supposedly cooked medium rare. Let’s start with the good, the staff. Everyone was really nice and cheerful, and trying their hardest on their«training day». With my reservation time, it took 30 minutes from start(placing our order) to finish(receiving our burgers). What’s not so good, the food. We go to many soft openings and grand openings so I try to keep my expectations at a minimum while realizing that there are usually a lot of kinks to be worked out. The biggest issue were our burgers were cold and entirely dry. Their bun toaster did a poor job of warming the buns. The buns were waaaaay toooo bready and on the hard side so we just ate the patties. Sadly, the patties(frozen?) were overcooked and very dry. I ordered a fried egg with my burger which had this odd, plasticky texture. Reminded me of the those play toy foods I had as a kid. We also ordered a side of tater tots and fries that suffered the same fate as the burgers. They were pre-cooked, pre-packed, and were sitting on a metal stand. I recommend the tots over the paltry amount of fries which were limp and soggy. I hate to say this but the food here reminded me of my college dormitory cafeteria days. Compared to other Bay Area burger chains, unfortunately, I would rank Built on the bottom of the list after In-N-Out, The Habit, and Five Guys. It’s a small space that can probably accommodate about 30 people. Outdoor seating is still pending. We had Tater Tot with us so we went to Blaze next door and ordered a pizza so we can sit at their dog-friendly, outdoor patio. I told Mr. NSS to order whatever pizza he wanted. He comes back with a pizza with NO cheese. *FACEPALM* But THAT is whole other story. Argh. Crossing my fingers that Built works out their kinks in the next several months. Good luck, guys!
