Great addition to the neighborhood. We needed a place that takes espresso seriously. No other nearby café does. The cappuccinos here are works of art.

Fairly new coffee shop in the Tenderloin behind the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. It’s name is derived from Steinbeck’s «Of Mice and Men». Great coffee, but what distinguishes this coffee shop is the playlist and design. Third wave coffee shops should pay more attention to their playlists because it impacts the coffee experience. There should be a mix of genres, classics, and new music. George and Lennie’s hits it out of the park when it comes to the music. Come for the coffee, stay for the music. Good coffee, good vibes, and good music. Worth checking out.

I wanted to be mad that they don’t have wifi, BUT the lady who worked here was super sweet. They didn’t have Splenda which I sort of acted like a little brat about(sorry), so she made me a delicious mocha. This place is a great find.

Great addition to the TL! I had been seeing the cute signs for this place but could not figure out where it was. Finally spotted it. I am a SLAVE to philz, but sometimes a little change is good. Glad I stopped in this morning. Sleek, cozy, cool design, records playing, $ 2.75 for a pretty good cup of coffee. Hipster vibe but not the mean pretencious hipster, George & Lennie’s is inviting and a solid lil café.

Cute little coffee shop near Hastings. I came in on a Monday morning for coffee and a bite to eat. They serve Four Barrel coffee and the space is bright and airy. The only food they had when I went was some sort of chocolate tort/pie. They also can do scrambled eggs but I was in need for a portable pastry. More food options/quick food options would round out the experience but still a good addition to the nabe.

An unexpected gem in the TL! We stumbled upon G + L after getting burritos across the street. Very cozy little spot with eclectic décor and great service. The cold brew coffee was good, and they sell Press 12 cookies. All 3 were delicious, but the Squirrel Friend cookie with potato chips was the standout. Definitely worth checking out!

I wanted to visit the coffee shop after reading about it on . Definitely was not disappointed. The place is cozy and the coffee is excellent(they serve Four Barrel & De La Paz). The coffee shop’s owner, Brett, is also an awesome guy who used to work at Four Barrel. What a great addition to the TL community.

I like to roll out the red carpet for New neighbors like Brett who are embracing the TL and its residents. One great cup of coffee at a time. Love the space, chill vibes and music, sweet community table, handmade with love by Katie. Quite a family affair over here on Golden Gate.

Time: 1:02pm/72°F sunny Purpose: Doing my rounds in TL checking up on Daily Press only to discover they’re gone. Pack up without saying adiós. I’ve no record or log to confirm a new location. Walk closer saw old school motorcycle out front now I’m curious. Ambiance: G&L feels a bit homey with mismatch furniture and a communal picnic style table. Rest of the place box speakers tilted upwards, pottery plants, frame pictures, unfinished cement floor, adjustable workshop light, and counter seating. Some interior are painted green with sheet metal overhead. There’s no menu or pricing to be seen. Counter with the usual espresso machine, grinder, bag beans, cake pedestal, iPad. At least its airy with nice breeze as sun doesn’t beat down on you. Staff: Not sure if tall guy with goatee ponytail blonde hair is George or not. There’s also a little girl that I assume is Lennie. She was the cutest little worker in the shop. I watch her ring up order while her father deals with the coffee. I don’t mind and prefer her to do what’s safe. She says thank you in kid voice. Oh man! That really melts your heart. Make sure you put something towards her college tuition. Cleanliness: Grade A, clean and bare feel, but no debris of any kind. Lennie has her school supplies out along with her stuff animals, but what kid don’t? That make her feel right at home so, no problem there. Eats/Drinks: Small house drip $ 2.50 De La Paz, blend not sure. It was bold, dark and smooth. Like always drink it black with nothing added. Wanted to eat something, but only thing they had were coffee cake, pass on it wasn’t feeling it. Products/Services: Coffee cake, beans by Four Barrel and De La Paz. Cold brew coffee by De La Paz. Limited menu for now, but eventually will have more offerings. Takes plastic, Wi-Fi. Punch Lines: Homey, limited offerings, mismatch furniture, family run, hipster feel, warm service, sketchy neighborhood, repurposed wood, street parking, federal courthouse. Tradeoffs: Having premium coffee in a sketchy neighborhood with not much offering. Is it worth fighting for? Final Thoughts: I can’t say much because G&L is still in the mix of setting up and getting things together. It’s certainly not a pretentious place. If you find yourself in area needing caffeine this place will get you in the right direction. Just watch your property and feed the meter and you’ll be alright.

I love George and Lennie and Brett(the proprietor). The coffee is great and the place is friendly. No tea or food just yet, only fantastically well-made coffee with a smile. Say hi for me when you stop by.

This new café brings a friendly dose of color, music, and coffee(roasted by 4Barrel and served pretty close to perfectly in mason jars) into the never-dull TL. And the friendliness doesn’t just extend to the well-heeled. Extra kudos on making coffee supremely well, while smiling graciously on all who walk in the door.

This place is amazing! Slaying Four Barrel coffee on the espresso machine. Good art on the walls and the perfect record spinning at all times. If I lived in the TL I would drink coffee here twice a day, every day. Namaste.
