Got Light

I was referred to Got Light because the family friend whose estate we were getting married at had used them for several previous events. Kristina was very helpful in offering a variety of lighting plans for a backyard wedding on a spring evening. We worked out including uplighting for the trees in the front and back of the estate as well as bistro lights and a light dance floor wash in the back for the reception. Kristina was very responsive and accommodated a walk through as well as a handful of discussions for different lighting options. I understand why our family friend continues to work with this company as the reception looked even more enchanting as the evening went on.

My wife and I got married at San Jose City Hall, and Got Light did an amazing job with the lighting. During the whole event planning process Kristina was extremely helpful and responsive. The lighting definitely made our wedding feel extra special.

My husband and I got married at the de Young museum a few months ago and we had our reception in the museum café. Got Light was one of the two preferred vendors for our venue and we no doubt went with them after seeing their amazing work.
Karl was a joy to work with. He was responsive, timely, and made sure we were taken care of. We worked with him throughout the planning process, he was helpful in providing design recommendations and answers to all of our questions. On the day of, Jason was the design manager that took care of making everything look spectacular. I am so happy we decided to hire Got Light, the venue looked absolutely stunning and it was better than how I envisioned it would be. With the de Young’s café colorful light fixtures already in place, the uplighting and dance floor accent light and pattern made everything come together perfectly.
Since our venue has strict load in procedures, restrictions, and we were under a tight timeline, I’m so glad we chose Got Light as it really helped lessen the stress load with their expertise and familiarity with the venue. Thank you for making our wedding memorable and everything we envisioned and more!

Our wedding reception room looked downright MAGICAL with GL’s expertise. Kristina was a very patient, excellent source of help that really maximized our financial abilities with the vision we had — their team was prompt, thorough, and very creative!

I love got light. So easy to work with. I worked with Karl and Julie and they made an already beautiful room illuminate for my wedding at SF City Hall. Karl worked with me and made it really easy to understand how everything would look day of and helped me work within my budget. Julie was there day of to make sure everything went smoothly. This is an update to a previous review. I am so grateful to be working with Jon and his company for my wedding in October. We were initially told that because of a 6 month policy that we would not be able to work with Got Light, which completely shattered my vision (brides-​to-​be know exactly how unnerving this feeling can be — cue meltdown). After writing a review about this policy, Jon, the owner, personally reached out to my fiancé to apologize for the inconsistent implementation of the policy, which they no longer adhere to, AND agreed to personally do our wedding. I won’t get into the incredible deal that he graciously offered us because I would never want Unilocal to be used to take advantage of Got Light, but I will say my wedding will exceed my dream vision because of him. Do you want a company that 1) is honest, has integrity and is willing to change policies that aren’t working for their clients; 2) is willing to meet their clients more than half way; 3) employs incredible artists who can bring your vision to life and 4) has a really good looking owner? If you’ve said yes to even one of these, PLEASE book Got Light for your next event.

Got Light did the lighting for our wedding at the Observation Post at the Presidio. They did an amazing job! Ashley was very helpful in getting everything set up for us and everything turned out exactly how I had envisioned it. Highly recommend!

I love Got Light! They made our wedding so glamorous. Sean Shay was soooo fabulous to work with, and I was so grateful for his patience, his kindness, and all his help in trying to meet our budget. We got married at SF City Hall, and the colors that we chose made the venue look so romantic and wonderful. We also selected a wash for the stairs and the dance floor that almost made it like a different venue from earlier that day. Thank you Sean and team for making our dreams come true!!! Got Light was incredible. I worked very closely with Ashley Hugus for our Bently Reserve wedding this past weekend and she was always highly professional and responsive — answering every little question with great detail and enthusiasm. I find that very rare and is what put Got Light over the top for me. We fine tuned until the lighting plan was perfect for my partner and my likes and budget. The Bently completely transforms with the ambiance lighting of Got Light as well as the drape that we selected… we will forever be a huge fan. Highly recommended — worth the $!

GotLight made my wedding experience in my family’s backyard magical and beautiful — thank you so much! The design GotLight helped us come up with was perfect, and they had all of the elements we wanted and even some we hadn’t thought of to make the backyard shine! The installation staff was extremely courteous, efficient, and competent — everything was set up beautifully. Wolfgang arrived early on the day of to install the lanterns, and then made sure everything worked well during the reception. He was really nice and did a great job. We’ll definitely remember that night forever and we’re happy that all the staff at GotLight added the extra touches to make it so special once the sun set!

I have worked with GotLight for several years now for a variety of event audio/​visual and lighting needs. They are stellar! I have worked with Russ and John (owners) on large scale Galas, Ashley on weddings and small non-​profit events, and with technical leads (John and Jason). I’ve never encountered a bad egg in 5 years of working with their team. They are all incredibly detail orientated and experts in their field. On occasion, if I contact them for an event without much lead time, they are booked up … and then I cry in a closet because I have to work with another vendor LOL. Really though, GotLight — you rock! Every event we’ve partnered on, I’ve gone into install day knowing that lighting and A/​V are taken care of. This confidence provides more time for me to take care of important details (and vendors that aren’t always as amazing as you!).

We used Got Light? for our wedding at CornerStone Gardens last September. I’ve waited to write the review because I wanted to get my pictures and video back to make sure I was accurate in my disappointment of the lighting.
Our lighting package was VERY expensive (and extensive) and we expected everything to be executed perfectly. I worked with Ashley who was «good» — we had several mis-​communications, but overall she was sweet.
We had chosen purple lighting for the barn based on a picture they had (from a previous Cornerstone wedding). I created an entire look around the lighting — purple sequince pillows, table linens, flowers, chandeliers, furniture, etc — all to tie into the lighting theme. What was delivered was a «light» hue of purple. I was so disappointed, but didn’t let it bother me the day of. Had I known it would not have been the purple I wanted, I would have chosen a different color scheme — we were going for a «club look».
Their set-​up crew did do a wonderful job. We hired what we were told was the best (and most expensive) because we wanted it done correctly. We spent a fortune on our wedding and lighting was a big part of the experience.
Sorry to say, but I wouldn’t choose them again because of this. I know they have terrific reviews and are very well respected, but they missed the mark for what we were trying to achieve.

We had our wedding on November 16 2013. At the Bently reserve in downtown San Francisco ca. Ashley and her team at got light were awesome. The communication was great. They were easy to work with. Very friendly, and delivered on what they promised. We would highly recommend got light for your event needs.

Although Got Light’s reputation is pretty good here, I have to give them an honest review. My brother got married at San Francisco City Hall in February and I helped with the lighting. Got Light was late on set up and had to go back to their shop for forgotten equipment. On top of that, a light tree fell down. Even worse, the owner, I think his name was John was calling my girlfriend «baby» all night long.

Got Light did the lighting for our recent wedding at Cornerstone Gardens in Sonoma and it was perfect! The service was spot on and the lighting was fantastic. We did a dance floor wash in the barn, uplights throughout the barn and outside, string lighting above the outdoor living room set ups and linen lampshades over the barn. It really added the finishing touch and just made everything picture perfect. I can’t recommend Got Light enough, they were just fantastic.

Please don’t hate me, but I know Got Light? has done amazing jobs (that’s why I went with them) but for my wedding, it was just okay.
Now, the workers and people who I worked with were EXCELLENT… this is not about the people. It’s just that what I envisioned and expected was not fulfilled sadly. One in a million I suppose.
I looked through their work and it was brilliant. I wanted the same type of purple/​plum glow at my reception as I’ve seen in others but perhaps due to the natural light or miscommunication on the potency of the color or whatever it was, the color at my wedding came out to more of a pink.
Still, the wedding was lovely with the lighting provided… but you know how brides have a dream vision of what it should be like.
I spoke with the workers and they ended up refunding me a small amount. Better than nothing right?
I still thank Got Light? for their hard work because the night was amazing regardless.

I had the extreme pleasure of working with Natalia of Got Light? for my wedding this past November. I have to preface this by saying that I was that annoying bride that had 2,000,000 questions (and they had to deal with me for over a year!) Anyhow, Natalia never made me feel like I was being the bother that I was and I am absolutely indebted to her for being so kind and informative throughout my whole planning process. Upon walking in to our venue (The Bently Reserve) on the night of our reception, I was blown away – the lighting was exactly as I imagined it and our dance floor was out of this world awesome. I opted for a glass gobo for our dance floor (given the detail of our design) and Natalia was even sweet enough to send it to me as a keepsake after the wedding.
In my opinion, they are completely reasonably priced given their professionalism and quality of work – GO WITH GOT LIGHT, PEOPLE!

My wife and I were married on 11÷6÷10, and I apologize for waiting so long to share our experience with Got Light?.
Nothing but the best service and product delivered by a creative and professional staff. Our wedding reception at the Julia Morgan Ballroom was made particularly special because of the above and beyond effort by Mike K and the entire Got Light? design team. Our budget was tight, so Mike showed up himself to help focus the dance floor and the fireplace washes.
The JMB seems like a challenging place to work with all of the anti-​rooms and intricate detail. My wife was blown away at the results of the layered uplighting, dance floor and fireplace washes, drape arrangement, and floral pinspotting. The room is already beautiful, but providing custom lighting accents made it extra festive and romantic.

Got Light? did our City Hall Wedding for 300 guests. They did a great job and got everything together in a very timely manner. Our coordinator Hayley was really nice and super friendly and we were very happy with our results, especially the wash and our custom monogram on the dance floor. The only reason for not giving Got Light? five stars is I thought the projector and screens we got from them could have been a little more clear, but that could be because it just wasn’t dark enough to have proper clarity. And another minor thing was one of the images was a little more skewed, meaning it wasn’t properly framed in the screen compared to the other screen. Not enough for most to notice or for me to complain at the time.
Overall: City Hall is beautiful on it’s own but Got Light? does all the little things, up lights, draping, etc to make it perfect. We were really happy with Got Light? and they did a great job for our City Hall wedding. So definitely give them a call and ask for Hayley.

Got Light provided the custom lighting and chandeliers at our wedding at Beaulieu Garden in September 2010. They were an absolute pleasure to work with and went above and beyond to give us the custom look that we wanted without forcing us into indentured servitude to finance our wedding lighting costs.
Jon Retsky (owner/​wizard), Mike Kuhlmann (lighting gnome extraordinaire) and Russ Holt (lighting elf extraordinaire) took an inept verbal explanation of a light I had seen at a Chicago restaurant and somehow MacGyvered up an incredible chandelier based on my explanation. The results were stunning, to say the least, and I feel lucky and indebted to this talented group for listening to me blather on about a light that couldn’t be commerically purchased and coming up with a bespoke design for our wedding.
As I’ve admitted in other reviews, I can be a handful when it comes to design aesthetics and expectations, but this group was able to manage my (admittedly high) expectations about what was and was not possible in terms of executing a custom lighting look within a given budget. Every penny I paid them was worth it, and honestly, in retrospect, knowing the quality of their work product and commitment to delivering lighting that really takes your breathe away, I would pay them even more. How often can you say that about a vendor in the wedding industry?
