Jensen’s Mail & Copy

I love, love, love this place. I’ve been in here at least once a month for the past three years and figured it’s time I wrote a review. I’ve used them for notarization and tons of package preparation and mailing, stamp buying, and as my personal packing peanut recycling and mail shredding center. Everyone at Jensen’s should probably hate me, but if they do, I don’t know it. THAT is some customer service.
At most places, the package preparation and mailing experience is something like this: Select from dozens of opaque, similar looking forms. Review them all. Fill out the 1 – 3 forms that look maybe like what you need, but you can’t ask anyone, because it’s too busy. Wait in a long line. Reach the front of the line and learn that you did not fill out the correct form (s), and that the person telling you this cannot do the right ones for you, and they have none of those at the front counter. Also, you bought the wrong box that your crap goes in, because form A does not go with box B. You still have to pay for all of that, by the way. Start over again. Hear «No we can’t ship it that way, only this one other, more expensive way.» By that time, you’ll pay anything to get out of there.
At Jensen’s, by contrast, I walk in, carrying God knows what hodgepodge of boxes, papers, etc. and stare around, thinking «these poor souls» the whole time, putting everything on the counter. And they just deal with it. They hand me exactly whatever it is I need, one at a time, and I write what they tell me to, and they say «Here are some price choices» and it’s done. I get everything sent by email so I never lose tracking records or receipts that I need for my accountant, as I run my own business. Nice vinyl records play softly in the background while all of this is happening. Competent, professional people, just doing their thing, telling you how it should be. This basically never happens anymore, in this day and age and city. Everyone who works at Jensen’s should probably go work for the SFMTA and fix that mess.
I love Jensen’s.

Unlike literally everywhere I’ve attempted to drop UPS prepaid, this place now requires ID check plus reading and filling out some customized legal forms to get it done. Don’t know if you get a receipt with your tracking number since I’ve always said «forget it,» but from the other reviews it seems they do a batch process at the end of the day. Used to be a pretty friendly place years ago when the gay guys ran it, but I’ll just to to UPS Store when I need these services.
One good thing they get a star for: they (still) happily accept packaging plastic for re-​use.

In recent weeks I’ve been working with Jensen’s to notarize, email, photocopy etc as I’ve been hired for positions that require me to work remotely. The staff at Jensen’s are always very helpful and polite. I’ve had to call numerous times for clarification re: tax paperwork, and they’ve patiently explained what they need and what to ask the employer to do. The fees were minimal for the amount of time they spent with me, emails sent out on my behalf, and photocopying I needed. I tried to tip them I was so pleased with the service. In my opinion, they are a valuable resource in the community.

wow i’m shocked to see all these bad reviews. Honest to god i just LOVE these people. They are always helpful, friendly, accommodating and super nice to interact with. I do allot of business over the phone with them, send them a variety of things that they print for me then send out for me, they have helped me do some very cool little flyers for animals related things, pack and send, copies of just about everything. They are a really nice family kind of business. Please check them out yourself. They have never been anything but SUPER WONDERFUL. I actually just checked to see if i had the right Jensons up in Diamond Heights because I am so shocked to see these negative reviews. I’ve been going there for years and always received 5 star service.

This place has tumbled BADLY. I’ve had a box there for ten years and it WAS like a small friendly family store. Everyone WAS kind, polite, and helpful. Since I can only get in about once a month they WERE so good about holding things for me.
But the other NEG reviews are right. Flip, rude, and poor service have reached this place too. But this IS my fault; my box was TWO DAYS past due after ten years! And I’d come in with only a few bucks after a month away. No MONEY, NO MAIL! Oh, they wouldn’t take just one months rent in cash for the moment — had to be six months minimum. And that’s what I get for being a FORMER regular. You’re only someone I used to know.
BTW, if you’re rude as I ultimately was, (YES) they will point that out with no insight regarding their own behavior. It’s not just the big box stores that are killing the small businesses. Good luck in life!

Needed to drop off a package for return (w/​a prepaid label) & there was a line at the post office. Saw Jensen’s Mail & Copy was like 10 ft away & they had no line so decided to go there instead
Well, there was no line for a reason…
Flippant staff; took my package & didn’t offer a tracking receipt; didn’t scan it; just threw it on a pile of other boxes
When I asked for a record of my dropping it off, he handed the package back to me & told me *I* could write the tracking number down but they would not enter it into their records
So with a handwritten record I wrote for myself & no service at all, I’ve definitely experienced better!
Next time, I’m waiting in line at the post office where they «officially» acept pacages & I receive a receipt w/​the tracking info

Charged me 145.00 to ship a box to southern calif 45.00 to ship it back crooks plain and simple go to fed ex or usps

I’ve been getting my mail and packages delivered here for over 3 years. I also use their copy and fax services occasionally. I can honestly say that I’ve never been dissatisfied. The employees are cool, and seem to really know what they’re doing. Hope they stay around for a long long time!

I was in a rush for a notarization. All my last-​minute plans could have been prevented by myself. I give Jensen’s a 5 for quick convenience and reasonable notarization fees. $ 10/​signature which is the standard even imposed by the Secretary of State. My printer wasn’t working so I asked Jensen if I could use theirs. From my smartphone, I emailed my document to their printer’s email. I had the notarization done right away. Presto! :)
My experience with the service was excellent. It had a family business feel. We even exchanged laughs and jokes. No small talk, we dug for the reality and clicked.
Definitely would go back whenever I’m in Diamond Heights for their other services.

I want to like this place, because it’s so convenient, but having had enough bad shipping experiences, I can say that if you care about your package reliably getting where it needs to go, don’t go to Jensen’s.
Their main problem with package shipping is that they fill out these forms that are Jensen’s specific, and then at some point in the future, they enter the information into FedEx/UPS/DHL’s shipping system. This may work if they were competent at doing that, but they’re not.
In one case, I shipped a laptop to friend, and requested signature service. My friend got the laptop, but said «It was sitting on the doorstep; surprised it wasn’t stolen.» I went to Jensen’s to ask about this (signature verification costs $ 7 extra) and whoever put the order into FedEx’s system didn’t read the Jensen’s slip, and didn’t request signature service. A minor «oops» that could’ve cost a lot of time and money.
In general, their package tracking system is a joke; because they enter the orders later, you leave without knowing what your tracking number is with FedEx/​DHL/​etc.; you get some weird «Jensen’s number,» which leads you a webpage that looks like it’s from 1995 (
); if you drill down, the tracking numbers are «there,» but they lead to dead links until Jensen’s runs some weird batch processing every night to update the links.
Seriously? What fucking year is this?
The real problem is this middle man Jensen’s introduces between between FedEx/DHL/UPS’s systems and the customer. There is no reasonable explanation for it (except, perhaps, that it frees up the Jensen’s employees to batch up all the orders at the end of the day, but this results in the fuckups I’ve described above.)
It’s insane.
If you actually care about your shit getting where it’s supposed to go, go somewhere else.

If I could give negative stars, I would.
This place is WAY overpriced. I shipped a UPS package here for $ 50. The same package (same service, same weight, same dimensions), if shipped at a UPS store, would cost $ 25. Really, what service does this store provide that warrants a 100% markup from a UPS store? Also, I was provided with a Jensen’s tracking number, which is NOT a UPS tracking number. Their own website is a joke – so now I can’t even properly track my package.
The ironic thing is that there’s a post office right next door. It’s amazing how this store stays in business.

They were busy with holiday wrapping and shipping but they helped me with a last-​minute passport photo– great service from a happy neighbor.

Jensens is pretty close to where I stay so when I needed to get some documents notarized, I went there. The guy behind the counter was quite friendly. He made 1 – 2 mistakes but was very pleasant. I know they have steep rates for taking printouts and making copies compared to others but the closeness to my place is one thing that makes me give them 3 stars. Also, I don’t understand why they charge more for using your flash drive and less if you email the documents beforehand.

— Great for Notarizing
— Friendly neighborhood business
Cons
— Rates are a tad high
— No logic in paying more for using flash drive

As others have mentioned, the problem with Jensen’s is they charge too much for everything. Some here on Unilocal call it retail pricing, I call it gouging. All businesses decide how they want to price things. Do you want to charge as much as you can or do you want to be reasonable? There are other mail/​copy services in the area that are much more reasonable. I feel like they are always trying to nickle and dime you at this place which is too bad because its a great location in DH shopping Center.
I have sent faxes and made copies, and yes they are overpriced. I was also going to get a mailbox here but the price was really high compared to the place I went to in Glen Park. Then Jensen’s wanted to charge me a bunch more money per month for the mailbox for my wife and I to both be able to use it. We just wanted it for maybe ten pieces of mail per month. I told them that if we exceed usage, then reevaluate our account and charge us more per month, but there is no flexibility at this place whatsoever. The mailbox service in Glen Park was very flexible I may add. Just like the other Unilocaler said, she tried putting $ 4.97 on her credit card and was told sorry there is a $ 5 minimum charge for credit cards. I run a business too and I take credit cards, and this is just stupid business on their part. You have to be a little more flexible in today’s world, and you need to price things reasonable. Also, taking credit cards is part of doing business today. This is not 1960, it’s 2011. Also on credit cards, a lot of businesses prefer cash because they can hide it easier and not pay taxes on it and cheat the system, so don’t think it is just about credit card fees!
I agree with the other Unilocaler about the employees, it is not their fault. They are adhering to the policy of the owners, but why would we want to go here so the owners can make money when they gouge us and lack understanding of what customer service is. And the comments of this being a family run business, how do you really know that? I have never seen the owner in there. I bet he/​she/​them are sitting on some beach at a five star resort enjoying the high prices we pay here. Read down at the other Unilocalers’ reviews of this place. Many have gripes about all sorts of things.

I agree this place definitely charges full retail for the services they offer, so since they are content to test the waters of supply and demand, don’t let it anger you; they will be there when you really need them, and yes, you will pay.
Sounds like most of the customer service conflicts that Unilocalers are b*tching about arise from employees diligently doing their jobs and complying with store policy, even the policies that involve sometimes saying ‘no’ to a customer. This can be frustrating, but it’s more a sign of the times. It’s refreshing to see relatively low-​level employees who actually care about doing their jobs.
In fact, the employees have always been polite, efficient and kind. I’d hire the people who work here. I enjoy the music they spin on their record player. You read that right, they play freaking vinyl records. Jazz, swing & such. So there’s no way they are totally evil.
Whining about a $ 5 minimum to use credit cards is petty, Unilocalers. Merchants pay fees every time their customers pay with a credit card, which is why some gas stations have two sets of prices. Credit card companies bleed this country like vampires!

Do I really have to give them a star??? Besides being overpriced I can’t believe their level of stupidity.
I no longer go in there to copy, fax, or send packages because they are so ridiculously overpriced, but have on occasion used their notary.
My 101 year old father needed to get some papers signed for his pension plan, verifying that he is receiving his pension. (Basically checking that he is still alive.) He went in and when the woman asked he gave her his name. She looked at him then turned to me and said, «He answered me in Spanish.» I couldn’t believe how stupid she was as I responded, «He gave you his name. He has a Hispanic name.» What did she expect? That he should anglicise his name?
Stay away!!!

I’m barely able to give Jensen’s two stars.
Two dollars PER PAGE for a fax? Are you kidding me? If I wasn’t so pressed for time, I would never have stopped here.
The only redeeming quality is the friendliness of the staff. Am I willing to completely, utterly overpay for the guy to say, «Sorry about the prices, man. I’m just the messenger.»? NO WAY.
If you’ve got the time to go somewhere else, AVOID JENSEN’S!!!

I had to ship a painting of my grandfather and grandmother. It was of extremely high sentimental value (and no other real value). So I thought of the folks here.
I have had them pack and ship my holiday gifts here since moving into the neighborhood in 1993 and never had a single thing get damaged.
They packed it so well that the recipient (an aunt), called me to compliment me on my packing skills. LOL. They treated it as if it was their own one-​of-​a-​kind family heirloom. I’ll be back.

Let me just start by saying that I have been here several times and will probably continue to do so because they are very close to my house and have a parking lot. But let me tell you, you pay for the convenience.
This place is a rip-​off. Plain and simple. I will only bother to comment on my latest experience with them since other people on Unilocal have already articulated some of the other frustrations with dealing with this place. I had to fax about 10 pages somewhere the other day and they wanted to charge me $ 2 a page! That is just outrageous. Instead I opted to have it scanned and e-​mailed to me. That cost $.95 a page, still way overpriced but it was time sensitive so I went for it. In the end, the scans looked awful. They were not balanced on the page and it was so light that I couldn’t read it rendering it unusable. Not that I could have sent since the PDF they sent was corrupted and I couldn’t upload it anyway. In the end I went to Kinkos and faxed it from there for half as much as Jensens would have charged.
As I said before, I will probably go back because it is convenient (the guys who work there are super cool and are not at fault) but I can’t help but feeling fleeced everytime I go.

They have limited business hours, they’re rude and inattentive, and worst of all — wait for it — they charge up to THREE DOLLARS to drop off already-​prepaid UPS packages.
That’s right — just to drop off a prepaid UPS package, they charge THREE DOLLARS. The owner was totally defensive and rude about it when I asked for some justification, and even admitted that this charge isn’t levied by all independent postal supply places — just his.
Charging customers for a service that costs the store nothing at all is bad business. I’m taking mine elsewhere.
