Very mediocre hotel restaurant. When surrounded by other great options in this ‘hood there’s no reason to eat here. Stay away from the tuna melt. Fishy flotsum. Good staff earns the place a second star.

I ate breakfast here while staying at the Chancellor, as well as grabbed a drink at the bar in the evening. Breakfast was so-so, but I only ordered eggs and home fries. Service at the bar was satisfactory, and my drink was strong. However, the bar is only open until 9:30 p.m.

Sat in for a late breakfast. I had the special of Tomato and Avocado Benedict with home fries. Eggs were poached properly, tomato and avocado were fresh. Potatoes were overcooked maybe from yesterday? Would try again for convenience of staying in the Chancellor Hotel.

We ended up going here because the line at sears was too long the first time we attempted to go. What a nice surprise. great service. Nice breakfast selection and delicious breakfast burrito with chicken sausage.

Buy one get one free happy hour specials served up by a friendly bartender with an alluring Irish accent… Could a gal possibly ask for more? The cosmos are stiff yet light and refreshing — expertly prepared by part time resident mixologist, Rory. The wine selection is limited, but not without gems. Free popcorn some nights seems to draw a crowd of frugal regulars; many of them chatty retirees with fun idiosyncrasies. Great Union Square shopping or theatre night pit stop.

I’ve only had the Breakfast and I’ve dined here many times. The service is friendly, courteous and prompt. Great value for what you get. I’ve had most of the egg dishes my favorites are the bacon and avocado omelet and the traditional Eggs Benedict. A great find in a sea of breakfast options in the Union Square area.

If you really don’t want to wait in line to get into Sears Fine Food, then you should really do yourself a favor and not enter the neighboring Chancellor Hotel on the rebound. That’s the life lesson I had to learn the hard way when there was a busload of French tourists waiting to get into Sears Fine Food ready to devour my Swedish silver dollar pancakes. Those are mine, mes amis! Alas, I cannot stop an army of hungry French people. Let them eat pancake. So out of complete ignorance and in a discernible huff, I went into the hotel restaurant and came upon an empty dining room save for one family of, you guessed it, French tourists. They must not have been informed that the rest of their bus was next door. Or maybe they had secret information that led them to realize the food would be better here. Mais non. If they thought that, they were sorely mistaken like Napoleon at Waterloo… or Celine Dion singing Tina Turner. The menu was surprisingly robust including an «Only in San Francisco» section with specials that have oh-so-clever names like Summer of Love, Do Your Own Thing, Protester and Diversity(photo: ). Apparently the chef must be a child of the 60’s. His moon may be in the Seventh House, but Jupiter was not aligning with Mars. I went for the more mundane and ordered the $ 10.50 Corned Beef Hash and Eggs(photo: ). For the price, it was a rather spartan plate with the two fried eggs on the verge of burnt on the edge. However, the biggest disappointment turned out to be the homemade hash as the chunks of corned beef tasted rather dried out despite the lubrication provided by the fried onions. Mon dieu. It made me want to run to Sears and tell everyone Jerry Lewis was staying at the Chancellor and that they should go over and ask for his autograph. That way they would stampede out of Sears, and I can tell my favorite waiter, «Silver dollar Swedish pancakes, s’il vous plait». FOOD — 2 stars… disappointing hash and tired eggs do not make a fine breakfast make AMBIANCE — 2.5 stars… a standard hotel dining room SERVICE — 2.5 stars… purely average TOTAL — 2 stars… sitting in the shadow of Sears and unable to shine

Wanted to find a breakfast place close to our hotel that had Eggs Benedict, and after going through Unilocal, found this place. The Eggs Benedict was delicious! But the coffee was not so good, and I didn’t like their potatoes(I think they were baked potato cubes then pan fried with onion and green pepper). But the Eggs Benedict were done perfectly: oozy yolk, great hollandaise sauce.

My wife and I stayed there at the Chancellor Hotel for a Giants Baseball game package, part of our package was a $ 25 dining credit for breakfast. I should’ve been alarmed since it was a weekend stay at prime breakfast time and there was no one in the restaurant. We figured since we had the credit to try it out… I ordered the Sausage skillet which had zero flavor, and everything was stuck to the bottom of the skillet. My wife had the french toast which wasn’t even cooked all the way through, it was still soggy in the middle and yes, you guessed it… zero flavor. I woudln’t go back there anyway, even if I got a credit… horrible…their coffee tasted like they used an old sock for a filter… just horrible!

(from 8÷24÷2013) Solid place to have breakfast. The food was good — the breakfast burrito I had was above average. Inexplicably, the staff kept making a racket. There was one only party eating there when we, but there just seemed to be a lot of unnecessary clattering of glasses, tending to empty tables, etc. It was kind of annoying. All in all, good breakfast but nothing that jumped out.

Had breakfast here be a use we are staying at the chancellor hotel(the hotel is fabulous). I ordered French toast and it was very soggy. I didn’t like it. My husband had eggs, home fries, bacon and toast. He didn’t like his meal either but the bacon was very good(slightly thick and not too crispy). Service was good but we won’t eat here again.

Convenient location. My mother and I were guests of the Chancellor Hotel, and therefore dined at this restaurant purely out of convenience reasons. Though there are other breakfast places nearby, we thought we would take advantage of dining at the hotel restaurant. SETTING: The restaurant is small yet welcoming. Tables are spaced out appropriately allowing customers room to easily move about. I appreciated that tables weren’t shoved next to each other in such a small area. FOOD: 1. Eggs Benedict: It was ok. Not bad. I would have appreciated more Hollandaise sauce with this dish. Other than that, the dish was fine. 2. Corned beef hash: Includes 2 eggs prepared any style and toast. My mother thought this dish was satisfactory. No major complaints except that she didn’t like the way her eggs were prepared. She ate most of the eggs though. SERVICE: Very satisfactory. Since the restaurant is on smaller side, there was a total of 2 servers for all customers. However, the 2 servers exhibited great customer service as well as exemplary teamwork with one another. As soon as we were seated our drink orders were taken and we were left to look over the menu. One of the servers returned in a timely manner with our coffee and took our orders. The food was dropped off in an acceptable amount of time, and the servers took turns checking on us during the meal. Coffee refills were also readily provided. BOTTOMLINE: Decent breakfast. Good service. Very convenient for guests of the Chancellor Hotel.

Really really REALLY bizarre experience here. Decided to try it for breakfast because of all the awesome Unilocal reviews and was disappointed. The food itself was very standard hotel breakfast kind of food, and it was no less expensive than the other breakfast places that are around. It was basically empty as well. It wasn’t bad by any means, but I’m not entirely sure why the reviews are so high. Now… that being said. We had a straight up WEIRD experience here. So — first they bring me my coffee. Fine, no problems there. Then when the server comes by, she says that their gas is broken so they can only do things like yogurt, oatmeal, etc. My boyfriend and I exchange glances, and then she says she thinks that they can also do things like pancakes, waffles, etc. I was pretty sure that my bf had his heart set on an omelet, so we decided that we would politely tell the server that we would just pay for my coffee and depart(to no fault of their own, obviously, if the«gas was broken»). She then came back and stated«good news» — part of their gas was back, and they could now do all egg dishes BESIDES omelets. However, omelets used a different kind of gas to cook than scrambled eggs, so they couldn’t make them… Um, WHAT… I honestly felt like we were being pranked on some sort of a TV show or something… My boyfriend said that he really had wanted an omelet today, so that we would just have the check. She then argued with my boyfriend, stating that«scrambled eggs are the same, just in different form». Um, no they’re not the same thing? An omelet is an omelet. Scrambled eggs are scrambled eggs. Finally, when we said thank you again and that we just wanted the check, she came back and said that the gas was ENTIRELY back, and they would be able to make him that omelet. When the food came, it was decent. Not great, not bad, just standard breakfast food. They never did bring me the fruit cup that I had ordered, but that was alright I suppose. Finally, when she brought us our check, she asked if we could pay cash because their«gas was out again». When I gave her the WEIRDEST look(like, seriously, what does the gas have to do with the cash register)? She said, «And um its effected our credit card reader». So we paid cash and left. And will not be coming back. I think the server knew that the experience was really strange, so while we were leaving, she tried to be very friendly and apologetic, and while I appreciate that, it did not make up for the overall strange experience we had here…

Five years later and my wife and I visit Luques at least twice a year when we spend the weekend in San Francisco. It’s our secret spot for brunch. And what’s not to love? The breakfast is great, the staff(who is still intact) is very friendly, and the service is great! I normally get the same thing, but decided to have the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs — delicious! My wife got the special, which was scrambled eggs, cheese, mushrooms and spinach. She really loved it! It’s really a secret place for us when eating brunch. No long wait. And the food and service is always great!

— — — LUNCHONLY — — Empty during lunch hour. Pretty decent prices considering it’s near Union Square. The service is really nice. The food is okay. I ordered the spinach, pine nuts, and feta cheese scramble – pretty simple to make and it was good to eat. It’s a great place if you need a quick lunch. Plates cost roughly $ 11 – 13 depending on what you get. I woudln’t go OUT of my way to come here but it’s a good lunch spot if you’re in the area and don’t feel like shelling out even more money at other places.

A nice little café hidden deep within the Chancellor Hotel in Union Square. Breakfast menu to die for. I went there two times in one week. First time, I had the egg omelette. Best Omelet ever. Second time, I had the Eggs Benedict. The Hollandaise sauce was perfect. Nobody ever makes it that good or perfect. It’s rare to get Eggs Benedict and the right Hollandaise sauce. Give these guys an award for their E.B. The Chilaquilas were to die for too. Chilaquilas are the marriage of Nachos and Omelets on one plate. Thousands of calories packed into one plate. Well worth the trip to the cardioligist. My waiter Mao was the best. Luques is hidden so deep within the Chancellor Hotel that rarely will you find a crowd there. No problem finding a table ever. This is sleepy little restaruarant, perfect for that quiet little meal. Don’t be scared off by the lack of customers in this little gem.

Lunch on a work day with a few friends. Urban hike from Embarcadero up to Powell def built up my hunger. Location is very accessible, in the Chancellor Hotel. Tried the Thai Salad after reading a few reviews & it was DELISH! Fresh, savory, sweet… yum! Good size salad, finished the whole plate & wasn’t hungry when 3:00 rolled around! Will be back for $ 5 Fridays! Word is there will eventually be bottomless mimosas too! Def will be back with my mom and/or GFs for brunch before a day of shopping ;)

BOGO drink special at the bar… Not much selection, but ended up with a Riesling from Monterey. Wasn’t a fan, but not a bad deal since it was a BOGO. They have Happy Hour specials at the bar and they serve breakfast all day. Bar has a very small seating area, but friendly staff. Located inside the Chancellor Hotel.

First of all, when you first walk into this place it seems as if you’ve stumbled into a senior citizen’s convalescent home. This restaurant is located inside the Chancellor Hotel on Union Square. A group of us came here for breakfast one morning. I ordered the Luques breakfast burrito which came with two eggs scramble, jack cheese, avocado, pico de gallo, sour cream and choice of applewood smoked bacon, sausage or canadian bacon for $ 9.75. What I should have got was the praline pancakes with banana and pecan syrup for $ 8.75! Two of our friends ordered that. and it looked GOOOoOOODDDDDDD. As for the breakfast burrito, well there was way too much tortilla. It was filling. And I actually like this place better than the Honey Honey Café & Crepery on Post street. I’d come back here.
