Ok the food was great but the reason for my 1 star is that they sneakily overcharged my credit card. I ordered the santa-maria tri-tip sandwich($ 12.95) and a fountain soda($ 2.50). Total was $ 16.94 or thereabouts. A few weeks later i checked my cc and they overcharged me by $ 4. This is some shady business going on here. Skimming a few cents and dollars off every order amounts to a handsome amount of shopping spree cash for someone. Food is great, but next time make certain to pay in cash.

One of your competitors on folsom st. Delivered us very horrendous BBQ about a year ago. So we didnt have high expectations our 2nd go around with ordering BBQ. But as the comedian Katt williams says ’ THIS **** RIGHTHERE! is Banging! one of our family members ordered the pulled pork sandwich and said its to die for. It was also her first time tasting the carolina BBQ sauce, witch blew her away. Our second family member ordered the ribs and greens. She is extremely picky, she loved it, She prides her greens but she said she has to «bow down» to these greens. I myself ordered the brisket plate. Excellent tasting bark, smoke ring, juicy, and pulls apart effortlessly. You can tell that they took the time to do it right, i cant remember the last time that i took my time to enjoy good BBQ. MEMPHISMINNIE’S ISIT! Thank you for an excellent experience!

The Pub is better! This place has fatty meats and always gives me worst indigestion. Always disappointed w the baked beans but that may just be the southerner in me ;) I don’t really like this place and their take out is too confusing. I’m telling y’all the Pub take out is worth attempting! This place does have decent sweet tea is why they got 2 stars from me.

I think Unilocal gets this place right at 3.5 stars. Came by tonight as I’ve been craving BBQ for a few weeks. My wife and I ordered: ¼ lb brisket 6 ribs Mac & cheese(medium) 1 cornbread Peach mini pies It was the perfect portion for us. Meat was seasoned really well, good flavor, super tender. Mac & cheese — flavor and texture were great Cornbread was good. The sauce options were very disappointing. I tried all 4 but felt they all fell flat. The flavors just weren’t there. The pies weren’t cooked properly. Too doughy. I let them know and they were very nice about replacing them. Something to do with one of the staff using the wrong dough. We were brought a new batch that was cooked better but you could still see a ring of soft dough. I’m sure they would have replaced it with a piece of pie but by that time we were good and didn’t want anything else. Not a bad little spot but most likely wouldn’t try it again.

This place is delicious. Being from KY, I know what good southern BBQ is and also what good hospitality is. These folks do it right. Delicious pork, brisket, beans, fries, mac-n-cheese, sweet tea and the service is great. Super friendly and welcoming. I walk here for lunch about twice a month and its always a great experience. And the portions are huge! Always have food to take home with me and its just as good the next day. And my company used them to cater a picnic once too. They were great to work with on short notice, quick to respond to emails and flexible to meet our needs. Love Memphis Minnie’s. Hope they stick around for a long time.

I hate eating crow but if I ever have to do it again, I’m going to get Lance over at Memphis Minnie’s to smoke it for me. I wrote a blistering review here a couple of months ago about some bad takeout I had from MM’s. As a result, Lance, the pitmaster, and Tom, the general manager, invited me to come have another taste of their victuals. Today was the day and I made the trek over to see what this smoke joint could serve that was better than my last experience. While I write this, I am sitting at my desk and my stomach is aching, not because the food was bad but because I couldn’t stop eating. Lance served me a mixed plate with brisket, chicken and a rib along with a cornbread muffin, potato salad and a bowl of pintos. Let me tell you, I am particular when it comes to brisket. The pitmaster better do it right or I’m not interested. This brisket was perfection. The amount of fat and the smoke ring were the first indicators Lance knew his business. The first bite was heaven on a fork. While I’m not a huge fan of ribs or chicken, Lance made a believer out of me. They were all perfect! As for the sides, I loved the pinto beans. They had just a hint of sugar and cinnamon that worked perfectly to bring out the best in the beans. The cornbread was what both my grandmothers used to make and I wanted more. The potato salad was okay but nothing special. I’ve had better and I’ve had a lot worse. Lance and I visited about what could have gone wrong and I agreed that sometimes it’s just a one off and, apparently, that’s what happened with that takeout order. I am now a firm believer in and a fan of Memphis Minnie’s. Lance and Tom, my sincerest apologies for making a rush to judgement and I will be back. I promise.

Lot’s of respect for Memphis Minnies. Best brisket in town, great Carolina mustard sauce, and better value than most other SFBBQ joints. Have tried damn near everything on the menu and have never been disappointed! I love Catheads and 4505 as well, but Memphis Minnie’s is always my go to for SFBBQ.

Okay so hear me out for a second: I am French and YES that means I know about good meat and good BBQ. Been practicing the art of eating good meat for years now. MEMPHISMINNIE’S ISDAPLACE! There’s only one word you should add to your vocabulary if you plan on paying them a visit: St. Louis Smoked Pork Ribs. I guess that’s more than one word but who cares. I shared a slab with my friends and MYGOODNESS I didn’t even have to order siders.(beer doesn’t count. No it does not.) That tenderness, these sauces(gotta try em all). I’m in heaven. Can’t wait to go back!!!

Great neighborhood bbq! The brisket and the pulled pork are fantastic. Ribs are good too but I’ve had better(they still have a nice bark). Also– tons of sauces. The hot sauce is AMAZING. This place does a great job of covering all bases. Their beans are also by far the best in the city. Would give five stars, as they are certainly better than 4505 but they need to up their rib game. If it’s not falling off the bone, it’s not done smoking.

{Review from experience 3 months ago} Probably more like 3.5 stars. I got the sweet pulled pork with mac & cheese and beans and corn bread. The pork was a bit dry for my taste. The mac & cheese was disappointing. The beans were, well, you can’t go wrong with BBQ beans. And the cornbread was. Uh. I don’t remember(so not too memorable I guess). I think lots of people enjoy having the sauce options, and they are quite different and interesting. The best sauce, IMO, is a mix of the Texas Red sauce and the It’s Stupid Hot sauce(for some sauce with a kick). May be back to try some other items on the menu, but this place can’t compare to the Southern BBQ that I grew up with.

On my continued hunt for the best pastrami sandwich in SF, I decided to give Memphis Minnies a chance to redeem itself(check previous review for context). I finally remembered one Wednesday to make my way out to lower haight since that is the only day they serve pastrami. Pastrami Reuben — 4⁄5 — The pastrami here is thick cut and has a nice crust to it. In contrast to my previous disappointment here with dry meats, the pastrami was incredibly moist. It states on the description that it’s cured, then smoked, then steamed so perhaps this is why this meat was so wet and flavorful. The biggest problem here is that they only put two layers of meat throughout the sandwich. When I first bit into the sandwich the flavor was totally drowned out by the rye and dressing. I did some quick surgery on it and put all of the meat one one half. This resulted in a perfectly balanced taste and quantity. The ownership should add twice the amount of pastrami layers and increase the price a few dollars to put this sandwich in contention for one of the top pastrami sandwiches in the city. Rib Tips — 2⁄5 — Why did I order an item that I knew was going to disappoint me? No idea. But I did. And it did. It was the same as the ribs I got last time. Dry. Grit sticks — 3⁄5 — Interesting concept, decent side dish. Good but I wouldn’t order this again. Beef ribs — 4⁄5 — I’m going to start by saying that in other cities, I’ve had much, much better beef ribs than these. Unfortunately, this is SF, which means that BBQ options are extremely limited. I can only think of a handful of places that even consistently offer smoked beef ribs as more than just the occasional special. This is unfortunate as this is my favourite BBQ meat of all. Of those options, Memphis Minnie’s so far has been the best. The flavor is good, the smokiness is definitely there and the amount of meat on the bone is acceptable. It doesn’t quite melt in your mouth and there are parts which are just too chewy and stiff but it definitely outshines it’s competition. Peach pie — 2⁄5 — Dessert is unsurprisingly not the focus of this shop. This was ok but I’ve definitely had better hand pies. Adding to the improved experience while there, I have to make note that the manager(owner?) noticed that I had to wait an extra 30 minutes for the beef ribs and generously threw in an extra one in my takeout box. Bonus points. Overall, I was quite pleased with this visit to Memphis Minnie’s and would return here for more(on wednesdays). The pastrami sandwich and the beef ribs were enjoyable and I would order both again. This time around, «I’m a fan.»
