How did I not discover this place sooner? The interior provides a very cozy yet pleasing feel, great for a date or just with a few friends. We ordered the ahi-mango spring roll, ecstasy roll, kimmi roll, the salmon ceviche roll, and a couple of drinks. The service here was very good and extremely quick. I personally wasn’t a fan of the salmon ceviche roll as I felt like there was too much rice and not enough fish. The ecstasy roll, however, was hands down amazing. The roll was crusted in tempura batter which gave it a nice crunch. Our total came out to ~$ 70 for 2, it’s not cheap but you get what you pay for, and sushi is one of the things I’m more than happy to splurge on. The quality of the fish has probably been one of the better places I’ve been to around the area, and I’ve been to quite a few. Definitely plan on coming back here.

I like this place, but it’s nothing special. Their sushi rolls are over the top and are not particularly good. However, if you order sashimi, nigiri, or simple maki the sushi really shines. They use fresh fish and when it’s simply prepared it is tasty. Unfortunately most of their rolls are very complex with lots of sauces, fried components, and weird ingredients. I like the ambience here… even when it’s busy it doesn’t feel crowded or loud.

The sushi is great. Nice place for a date or to catch up with a friend.

Below average sushi. Nice ambience for drinks/chill. We arrived around 7pm on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is half filled, bustling but good sound level to have a decent conversation. We were promptly seated and ordered green tea which was served in a nice modern tea pot. The menu option was pretty limited. We ordered a Grilled Salmon(3⁄5), Kona Roll(2⁄5) and a Hamachi(2⁄5). The sushi ain’t great. The best item amongst what we ordered was the Grilled Salmon. Will not recommend this place if you are hunting for good sushi. The food is also rather over priced. This, however, is a fantastic place for a causal date over a couple of drinks. The decoration, lighting and overall ambience makes it a decently romantic place to hang out. Feel really nice in there, just my tummy did not come out feeling happy.

Enjoyed some sushi there recently. Their environment is very cozy yet classy. One could stay there a long time and enjoy a casual positive conversation there. And at the end of that conversation, fall asleep with a partially eaten sushi piece in one’s mouth. It’s that cozy there! We ordered the ecstasy roll, rock-n-roll, spicy tuna, and a salmon cooked roll(forgot name) with 3 others. The ecstasy roll really caught me by surprise(cooked hamachi and(argh forgot other fish:)). It was so smooth and perfectly well done that I could have eaten 29 rolls of them if I had the space. The eel roll was well above average, the tuna was spicy enough to enjoy without feeling overpowered. My friends bday was then so they graciously gave a perfect Mochi(feel guilty for taking a piece lol) that was a little gooey inside like it should be. Wow. The price was affordable for 4 rolls, $ 42ish I’d like to come back :)

Been dining here ever since they first opened in late 90s. A go to sushi joint in Bernal.

We are consistently impressed with Moki’s Sushi each time we visit. Staff is amazing and remembers our order and recommends seasonal delicious items. I love that their menu specials change and every time the special roll is so good. We have our favorites though, the Kamikaze roll and the Jungle roll are the best! Aside from fresh and tasty sushi, their entrees and small plates have a wide range of choices that aren’t just your run of the mill chicken teriyaki dish. The grilled fresh fish is always seasonal and they know how to prepare it. We love the corn fritters with spicy Indonesian sauce and the miso soup could be the best I’ve ever had. Not just a wimpy bowl of watered down miso, this soup has some real depth and flavor. This has been our local main stay sushi spot for over two years and we highly recommend to everyone.

I’m a big fan of sushi — fresh fish, pile on the pickled ginger, saki, the works! Moki’s is a cozy spot for any situation, whether it be as a romantic date or friends getting together. The service is professional and consistent. The portions are generous. This was my second time at Moki’s and I had an even better experience than my first, but that had to do with the company I brought with me and nothing to do with Moki’s. We had the Sashimi super combo — YUM! Again, a generous portion of various fish. We also had two rolls. I was full by the end of it and happy. I would highly recommend Moki’s as a great spot in a cute neighborhood of SF.

Ah San Francisco… Interesting fusion of ribs/American food with sushi/Japanese dishes. Very pricey for very small portions. Quality was fine but don’t come here if you’re too hungry or be ready to spend!

Service — friendly and courteous — sushi bar can be slow, however. Pricey — what’d you expect, it’s Bernal Heights. Authentic — not really. I can appreciate that catering to the Americanized tastes and vegetarian consciousness of the neighborhood may require you to compromise authenticity. But really, you shouldn’t pay this much for a less than authentic experience and non-authentic ingredients(often replaced with vegetarian substitutes — hello, tofu doesn’t cost that much folks.) Points for having something like gindara kasuzuke on the menu, but it came out undercooked. You’re better off walking over to find better Japanese food on Mission. Feels like this place has a bit of an identity crisis… the décor(definitely not Japanese) and food are trying to appeal to american tastes while trying to(poorly) justify authentic Japanese prices. I don’t want to be a cynic but it’s no surprise when the people working the sushi counter don’t seem like they have traditional training. You pay $ for sushi — 1) for quality, 2) for presentation, 3) for flavor. Sadly all three are missing. But very professional staff definitely. They deserve to represent a stronger kitchen. Maybe someone Japanese started this place with the intention to offer a high end sushi experience in a up and coming neighborhood. But somewhere along the waym the Japanese knowledge evaporated from the kitchen, and now their just trying to find ways to manipulate you into thinking this is worth the $. I’m not a purist. Fusion is cool. But this place fails to deliver even conceptually. It tries to offer a poor excuse for sushi in a non Japanese setting and it just doesn’t work. Hate to give poor reviews especially when the servers are nice.

Can’t get too descriptive with Sushi except everything seemed fresh. We were very happy with service. Sake list is decent. Will have to try again to get more detailed. What I did notice most was the cost. Pretty pricey for sushi. People in the neighborhood told me to go back during Happy Hour. Will do that.

It’s up there with the best hand rolls and maki I’ve had but gosh it is pricey! Had a solo meal of salmon and prawn nigiri(salmon: excellent, prawn; average) plus a couple of maki — soft shell crab and salmon. Both excellent and up there with the best I’ve had. Yum. Glass of Pinot Grigio and that’s a pretty excellent meal! Pricey though. $ 50 just for me.

Came here for an early Mother’s Day celebration with a party of 6. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. We came right at 5:30pm when they opened. We ordered almost every dish on the«Small Plates» section of the menu. My favorite dishes were the ribs, spicy corn cakes, grilled asparagus, calamari, fish and chips, and the combo tempura. The menu is eclectic ranging from traditional/non-traditional sushi bar eats to succulent and flavorful seafood bites. We also ordered a bottle of the Momokama sake which complimented our dinner very well. Our waitress Ann, who is also the manager, was extremely friendly, kind, informative, and attentive to name the least. Ann and the staff who tended our party were very polite and professional. While I was born and raised in the Mission District, I rarely ventured up to the Cortland area. I am very glad we decided to celebrate Mom’s day at Moki’s. Parking can be difficult in the area, but this location is definitely a gem. There are many shops, bars, local boutiques, to check out before and after your meal. Bravo to the staff at Moki’s. My family and I will definitely be back!

With some time to kill and searching for a place to sit and tap my phone and nosh on something other than a taco, and near«Bernal», I found myself @ Moki’s. Itsa brand new experience for me to be standing at the door @ opening time for any joint. Interestingly, a group of 3(lookin like momma, papa and baby bear) waiting also. I shuda noticed the«This is Bernal»(wooden) sign as I entered Cortland St., not that I wuda stayed away but cuda have set the stage for part of my experience @ Moki’s: Moki’s challenged my diversity honed sensibilities. I was the first to warm a seat @ the sushi bar, 2 people preparing the fish and sushi stuff for the day. Speaking in Spanish, I hate & hesitate to admit that I thought they were preparing the sushi bar for the chef. Nope, SURPRISE: THEY were the chef’s. DAMN good ones after sampling a few nigiri and a roll. This is more than a «kid friendly» joint, it’s a «kids encouraged» joint. LOTS of parents with little kids. I’ve now been to Moki’s a few times and come to believe and appreciate their adaptation to the reality of their nearby Bernal customers familial desires. The sashimi combo was nicely done w/a dose of a seaweed salad, it was good. The nigiri were nicely done, rice properly cooked & seasoned & cooled. It is «Moki’s Sushi & Pacific Grill», which leaves open the door to just about what ever lands in their kitchen. Itsa solid 3*‘s.

You could almost miss this place if you aren’t looking for it. It is located in a quiet neighborhood in a strip of shops. The interior is cute, calming with a pacific island feel. The sale was great, and the edamame was the usual. We had the spider roll, the volcano roll and the South Pacific roll. They were all tasty but not mind blowing amazing. The server was a little bland but she got the job done. I can see coming her again.

My cousin suggested sushi for dinner, and I jumped at the chance. This place was amazingly delicious. I started with a pear and bleu cheese salad, expecting it to be a small side to my sushi order. The salad comes on a full sized plate! It was delicious through and through, though I made myself stop eating it all so that I’d have room for all the good sushi. I ate tamago, saba, and the spicy tuna roll. I especially loved their saba. It was light, fresh, cool. My husband also ordered coconut rice. We could’ve eaten just that on it’s own and been happy. Every component of the meal satisfied us. I’d ask my cousin to bring us again if we’re in the neighborhood.

I’m giving this place 1-star because of service. The food is probably about 2.5 stars and the ambiance is about 2. I ate an unremarkable meal here last weekend and forgot my favorite baseball cap on the chair. Since I don’t live in SF, I had my sister call them the next day when they opened to inquire about the hat. They had found it and she said she’d be in to pick it up. A few days later she stopped by and they said they had thrown it away! Who does that? It’s a baseball cap that would take up no room under a counter. The manager apologized and gave my sister $ 25, but that’s not the point — if a customer calls and earmarks a lost item, throwing it away like that is a complete slap in the face. Not only is it disrespectful of my sister’s time, but it’s lazy and disregards the fact that not all things can be replaced with a couple bucks. I will not go back here and will be telling my friends to avoid, as well. No mediocre food is worth this crappy treatment.

Nestled in cozy Bernal Heights, Moki’s is a solid, well-regarded neighborhood feature offering sushi with a gentle big-island twist and plenty to keep vegetarians interested too. Not your standard lame vegetarian rolls. Macadamia nuts, fresh mango, tempura asparagus, wasabi mashers — great stuff! I really like the fresh take on sushi without going overboard unique. Just different enough. It works. We stop in every couple of weeks and have never been disappointed. Calm and relaxing. The neighborhood is a nice place to stroll and have a drink before /after. There’s a couple nice little wine bars super nearby. If you hang out on a Friday night you *may* eventually see your server singing karaōke at the bar down the street. Moki’s makes a great setting for a date night. Really nice, solid spot.

Food-wise, I’d give it a 3. But then, I ordered a seaweed salad and spicy tuna roll. Not really special there. I foolishly thought the seaweed salad would be different… but its just regular seaweed salad. For like, $ 8 bucks. *sigh. I failed. I’ll go back and try something else soon though. My friend got the sashimi and it looked really good. It was super fresh and pretty plentiful. Why I bump them up to a 4… well, its service and not complaining. The table next to me had 2 kids who had the sound level of about 20 kids. I never knew kids could be THAT loud. And the parents straight ignored them. Like. Your child is screaming and being a brat in a restaurant. My strict Asian parents would drag me outside just to spank the heck out of me. These parents clearly were on the hands-off approach. To each their own I guess. Please note I’m not a child hater. Just observations. After the family left, one of the staff spent a good 20 minutes cleaning up AFTERTHEM. Seriously. Sticky rice all over the floors, tables were a mess. I mean. Like mini-tornado. I asked if they tipped well, and he said they don’t look at tips because it just gets you mad. So I sincerely hope that you, family who came in and damn near tore up the place, tipped at least 20%. The staff was just short of bleaching down the space to clean it for the next table.
