Had some Chicago friends in town who wanted to watch the Blackhawks game, so i tell them there’s a «Chicago bar» a few blocks from my house and we meet at Monaghan’s. I like Monaghan’s well enough — plenty of room to move, and very friendly bartenders. But we all have issues… At Monaghan’s the issue was discovered when my idiot Chicago friends decided it was time for some Malort. There is NOMALORT at Monaghan’s, a so-called«Chicago bar». Hey Monaghan’s, why no Malort??? Get some Malort or stop selling yourself as a «Chicago bar». So we had to do a hard target internet search and take a Lyft to the Wreck Room to get some Malort. All in all Monaghan’s is aiiiight, but minus one star for no Malort and minus one star because i had to take a goddamned Lyft to the goddamned Wreck Room to get my goddamned friends their goddamned Malort… Goddamn it…

Monaghan’s is a great sports bar. It primarily sticks with Chicago sports, and Big Ten sports, which is great as an Alum of Indiana University. It’s nice to be able to find a fanbase so far from the midwest, that can unite for a big game. Also, the bartenders are generally very friendly, and the selection is pretty good. Maybe one of the few places you can find Goose Island in SF. The interior isn’t the greatest, but to me it really embraces the grungy sports bar atmosphere.

Monaghans is a decently large sports bar with a pool table, virtual golf, a jukebox and reasonably priced drinks. The bar, itself, has nice character and feels almost like a pub(maybe it is!). — Beer is in the $ 6 to $ 7 range which is about right for the establishment and the area. My Jamie on the rocks were about $ 7 /pour too. — Super friendly bartenders. I was surprised how well staffed the bar was on a Tuesday night, possibly for the MLB playoffs? — Located just south of Chestnut so you can get yo drank on after a breakfast, lunch or dinner. — If you’re on that liquid diet(i.e. Me), the bar gives free popcorn which is perfect for the drunchies. Bottom line: Nothing really stands about this place but I’d come back just for dinner(free popcorn and reasonably priced drinks). Stay thirsty, my friends.

This is a no-frills sports bar. It’s exactly what you expect it to be. They did recently remodel and the interior looks a lot nicer on the inside. Do I have any Chicago sports fans? This is your spot to watch the Blackhawks & Bears! The staff is incredibly friendly and it’s a perfect spot to meet other recent Bay Area transplants from Chicago! No food but it’s BYOF plus there’s free popcorn! Another added bonus? It’s dog friendly :)

Every time I come into this place I’m greeted by friendly people– yes they get busy but people are just happy and the vibe sis good. I’m in the restaurant industry and have crazy expectations– each one of the staff here has proven themselves time and time again, thought it was time to give a shout out. Well job management on being good people and providing wonderful atmosphere. Thank you!

It’s your chicago bar away from chicago! They play the Blackhawks. The Bulls. And da bears all over the place. Went there alone and the crowd is great

This is the only place to watch Chicago sports teams play if you are in SF. They also have one of my favorite Bloody Mary’s in town.

An awesome casual dive bar — best to catchup with friends for a beer! With a super friendly and free popcorn — this could very well be the best neighbourhood bar.

Posh though the area may look, you find yourself either trapped in classy wine bars mandating you to be on your best behavior, or getting packed into crowded bars where it takes so long to get a drink, your friends start to worry about you. That’s the Marina bar scene in a nutshell. We were happy with Monaghan’s because it’s your basic bar, not too crowded and somewhere in between a divey pub and a sports bar. It includes all the essentials: cheap drinks, decent beer selection, fast service, unimpossible seating, random games, free popcorn for drunchies, and a good noise level creating an ambiance that’s very much alive but you can still talk to people without screaming. However with the pluses come some minuses: my Tokyo tea could been stronger, I wish the green lighting for the alcohol display changed colors, and there is so much popcorn on the floor you think the crowd is a little too buzzed to make such a mess(until you get used to the popcorn landscape and/or you become buzzed yourself). Conclusion: not bad, especially if wine bars are too pretentious for you, and you are too pretentious to cram into uncomfortably crowded bars.

Go to chill dive bar in the marina. Nice and chill in the afternoons — boisterous and packed at night or for big games — love this place.

totally old school restaurant! three of us came here because we were sick of the wait at delarosa, and i was pleasantly surprised! the menu is very easy to navigate — apps, steaks, other things, sides. great selection of drinks — beers and wine and full bar. and it’s a fun place to watch games — who knew? my friends got the burger, and a steak, respectively. i got the fried oysters plate. honestly i cant complain about the quality of food or the quantity! there is also such a wide variety of sauces available for use! we really enjoyed our time here.

It’s an Irish bar with big tvs. Anyone expecting the Ritz treatment doesn’t deserve to come. Great staff. Great drinks and solid beer selection. It does get packed. It does get a little crazy. It’s also a lot of fun. Oh… And popcorn.

Jesus H. Christ. If I could sum this place up in one word, it would be AVOID. My wife and I popped in here for a quick drink after dinner. And it literally turned into a very quick drink as we wanted to get out of there so quickly. The bar was messy, there were broken chips all over the floor and tables, but that would’ve been tolerable as the drinks selection and service itself seemed fine, but the clientele? Dreadful. It wasn’t particularly busy on a Sunday night, but the people that were there were a bunch of bros and their girlfriends, who were all way, way too drunk, loud and obnoxious. At one point one of the bros lifted up one of the girls and promptly dropped her right on her head! We’d barely been there five minutes and we were sick of their drunken buffoonery. After the head-dropping incident, we swiftly drank up and departed. Maybe we caught it on a bad night, but you know what they say about first impressions. Not exactly a high point for our first night in San Francisco…

This is the place to be when Chicago Sports are on TV! Very important — The beer is inexpensive, some drafts as cheap as $ 3 and $ 4! We came here for the Bears game on a Sunday. The atmosphere was very lively — the fans were enthusiastic and social. There are plenty of TV’s throughout the bar, and viewing was never a problem. The tables were full by 9:45am; but, it is also fun standing by the bar, and there were plenty of people resting on the pool tables. The bar does not sell food — but they have plenty of free popcorn. If popcorn is not enough, you are allowed to carry food inside or order delivery. The bar even allowed one group to bring in a crock pot to cook their own food! Overall, Monaghan’s is a great place to meet more Chicagoans/fans in the Bay Area. I will return for more games, and to visit in general.

Honestly, this is probably my «go to» spot if I forced out to the Marina. Cheap drinks that won’t break your wallet, free popcorn(bonus), and a generally friendly crowd of people. Definitely put Monaghan’s on your list of places to check out.

Monaghan’s is just off the main street of Chestnut but fairly large with several nice flat screens, plenty of space and yes a fresh popcorn maker! This is a huge perk for me. I like nibbling when I drink. They have a nice pool table in here as well. The bar is pretty long, and there’s tables along the other side. They have a nice happy hour, and the drink prices are reasonable otherwise. $ 5 can get you a nice beer like Stella, and $ 6 can get you a well poured glass of house sauvignon blanc. When there is a game going on, this is one of the less crowded options and better in my opinion.

I love an Aggie bar! Shiner and popcorn! Whoop! I frequent Monaghan’s to watch the Texas A&M football games and love this place. The staff is beyond friendly, they know how to handle our rowdy Texas crowd and they always have shiner available. They provide free popcorn which is perfect for watching football. All and all a great place to watch a game with good service!
