A small, quaint neighborhood gem! This little café is tucked away on Polk St. and is perfect for people like me who work late and can’t focus at home(they are open until 11PM). The gentlemen who greeted me at the counter was very nice and soft spoken. He was also kind enough to bring my latte over to where I was sitting. Aside from coffee & espressos, they serve tea, smoothies, sandwiches, bagels, and a fridge full of Odwalla juices. The café looks a little old, with random décor all over the place, but that’s what makes it unique! It has personality and isn’t stiff like some other café’s I’ve been to. Everyone in the café is doing their own thing — whether it’s working on a laptop or reading the paper. Which was nice, because nobody was distracted by any loud noise or talking. It’s just a peaceful & cozy little café. Great for getting work done and much more relaxing than sitting in a loud and crowded Starbucks!

If I was an emo artist, I would come here and create my next masterpiece. That’s how hipster artsy I think this place is. I love their coffee. This place has a real espresso machine and yummy sandwiches! Hands up! high five! They have a variety of small bites as well. Friendly service and they take cards.

Awesome neighborhood café! The owners are super nice. The authentic Vietnamese banh mi is amazing! And there are power strips everywhere. Coffee comes in quirky mugs. I love this place!

I absolutely love this place. They just got new owners and it is even better than before. The workers are really sweet, the internet is fast, they are open really late, and the sandwiches are super cheap and delicious. LOVEIT.

What’s not to like about this place– If your looking for a corporate coffee cone that’s on every corner– it’s across the street. This is genuine local low key relaxed hangout. Super relaxed so grab a drink and chill or get caught up with those pending emails.

This is my favorite cozy neighborhood coffee shop. I work from home, so when I feel like getting out of the house, I’ll work from here with their free WiFi. I feel welcome sitting around and never pressured to leave. My standard order is the Vietnamese chicken sandwich(delicious) and iced coffee(served in a variety of quirky mugs). Also — the employees here are quiet but really stellar. Just today I saw a woman come in who had forgotten her phone and and was trying to text a friend. I’m not even sure that she bought anything, but one of the employees still let her use both his cell phone and his computer to track her friend down. I thought that was over and above.

Loved the placed. Will definitely come back. Quiet, but with a really friendly atmosphere. And that veggie sandwich was everything I wanted it to be. I’m not exactly a coffee aficionado, so you may want to get someone else’s opinion there, but the real clincher for me was the great music. Super nostalgic hits from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Can I stay forever, please?

Moving to a new neighborhood, having a great coffee place is important. I’m glad a found a place. Most important to me, the entire staff is friendly and welcoming, reminding me of a hometown coffee shop back in Vermont. I’ve enjoyed a few breakfast sandwiches and indulged in a Mocha, one of the best I’ve ever had.

This is a really nice neighbourhood coffee shop. It’s a small quiet place that has its own distinct charm. Ive had the mocha here and it’s quite good. The sandwiches are alright too. The best part is they have chess, scrabble and a few other board games which you can play while you’re there.

This place has a really great vibe. It’s a hole in the wall, charming little coffee shop with board games like scrabble! Great way to spend a lazy afternoon. We got a sandwich with our mocha and liked both the drink and the food. I would recommend this place if you’re looking to get a cup of coffee and read a book, get some work done or just hang out with a friend!

In a neighborhood full of coffee shops, royal ground holds its own with distinct coziness and charm. With fair trade coffee, window and street side seats, this is a great spot to stop and watch the world go round. Come in with a book, blog or newspaper to read and let the waves of good vibes roll gently over you.

great local neighborhood coffee place. The prices are affordable, the coffee really tasty, and a few yummy looking snacks. The sitting area isn’t huge but it’s cozy and clean. There were also a few tables outside which I had no trouble sitting at on a saturday morning.

Not the service that I would expect from a place that has the opportunity to stand out as one of few small businesses on the street. Small quaint but not good. An obvious attempt to corners and save money leaves poor taste in my mouth. Shamelessly over priced and sub par quality. Convenience store grade with local organic price. Leaves clients feeling hustled and cheated. Surprised I am not seeing more negative reviews

Excellent coffee, fast service, the cutest ceramic coffee mugs matching with the tiles of the tables outside. Cozy, colorful, companionship. Open til late at night(was trying to get a coffee and could not find any other place open and Unilocal brought me to this small and filled with people that look like they have been going there forever, casual and friendly atmosphere, nothing pretentious in there.

The Royal Ground in Russian Hill has a special neighborhood feel to it, which is rare in this city. Coming here, you won’t be subject to the typical nonsense of SF’s pseudo-hipsters and tech-bro’s(they’ll all be at Saint Frank nearby). Not once have I overheard a conversation about Über, or how Start-up B is the new Start-up A, etc. ad infinitum. Instead, you’ll find a nice community of regulars, quiet-types and hard-workers, which is something really worth treasuring. I feel comfortable when I come here, and the staff are incredibly nice and thoughtful, so I find myself always coming back. The coffee really isn’t the most amazing coffee in the neighborhood but it isn’t bad either, and the sandwiches are actually pretty good. They’re open until 11 too, so coming in for a late night chat over hot cocoa is really nice.

Popular for playing chess late into the night! Their kitchen closes at 10pm, but they still serve drinks after that time. We were kicked out at 11:30pm on a Saturday evening, even though they supposedly closed at midnight. Be warned that you will come out smelling like roasted coffee afterwards.
