Saw Sean’s posting in May and assumed that the«changes» will be done, but NOT!!! The freakin place is empty! Chairs stacked up and dark! No signs of life like everyone decided to walked off the job! There was no sign on the window about«changes» or «be back soon.» I live near there and will peek in once in awhile to see if it ever will reopen, but til then dont waste your time.

Gialina’s had a 45-minute wait and after working 12.5 hours and driving 40 minutes home I was in no mood to wait. So I decided to come here and I couldn’t have been more pleased. Definitely a good date spot. For a party of two, I got a little carried away ordering food. — The tuna tartar was interesting. It consisted of fresh tuna with giant chunks of avocado. It was a nice deviation from traditional tartar. I came close to licking the plate clean. — The vegetable salad is delicious! It consists of grilled vegetables over a bed of spinach in the most delicious dressing ever. I initially didn’t want it, but I ended up consuming most of it. I should say inhaling. My mouth salivates as I write this. Highly recommended, but warning: very filling! Great dinner choice for all you anorexics. — The calamari was tasty. I enjoyed the two sauce options. The first sauce creamy. The second a green sauce with hints of citrus and spice. — The tempura roll did not blow me away. Maybe it was an off night. Something didn’t taste fresh. — The hamachi sashimi was, however, fresh and melted in my mouth.(As it should.) Delicious. Too make the experience even better I had excellent customer service and received complimentary cheesecake. I will definitely come back to Sangha, especially to try their fish tacos.

I felt obligated to tip a little extra so that the owners could afford to put some more art on the walls. Just kidding, I don’t pay for my own dinners. That’s why God gave us boyfriends with jobs. The service here was really good, in a non-obsequious but still helpful sort of a way, but the food was not as fusion-tastic as I’d hoped. The rolls were novel, but since I have the palate sophistication of a four-year old, I stuck with the basics. Luckily, I fit right in, since there were quite a few four-year olds milling around. At least I can order sake. Suckers!

I have to admit that when I first heard of Sangha’s japanese-mexican fusion menu(Jap-Mex?) I envisioned sashimi burritos and tempura tostadas. Fortunately, I was far off the mark. Sangha delivers solid fusion fare. I tried both the filet and salmon, which were both tasty. The real winners here are the specialty rolls, however. The Natas and Noori were both terrific, and the high point of my meal. The waitstaff is friendly, and seems to know about half the patrons by name. The one thing that bugged me was the interior, which struck me as rather spartan. It ought to be changed to something as colorful and vibrant as the food.

Came here the first time with an old friend and chose the calamari, a couple of sushi dishes and the chicken. the calamari is great! they have these really yummy dipping sauces. the sushi we chose was REALLY good. i can’t remember the name but the sushi with mango sauce over is really my favorite. the chicken was just OK … a little dry and nothing special. i probably wouldn’t order it again. i came here a 2nd time with my boyfriend and again we got the calamari, charred jumbo prawns and the sushi with mango sauce. all were REALLY great. for dessert we had the chocolate molten cake and the raspberry cheesecake. the molten cake was SUPER delicious and definitely worth going maybe just for a late night dessert. the cheesecake was just OK in my mind. i tend to prefer the dense cheesecakes and this one was light and fluffy. we both decided we would go again for the calamari and sushi. can’t wait to go again!

I’m in Glen Park all the time and noticed this place for the first time. I was waiting for my crapes from the fabulous place across the street when I noticed it. Lacks a bit of curbside appeal… hence the reason I didn’t notice it before but the menu looked interesting. Love that GP has these new fabulous eatery’s. So a spontaneous date night in the hood and we were delighted with a fabulous party in our mouth! Tuna tar tar. scrumptious, calmer delightfully different… loved the tamatillo(sp?) sauce! The Filet Mignon, slightly overcooked *(asked for a lil pink, definitely well done) but even so delicious… most definitely will be back. Price is fair for the quality of what you are getting… can’t wait to try the sushi!

Excellent first time, and I will be back! My companion and I shared the asparagus(which had a wonderful spicy sauce drizzle), the calamari(fantastic, maybe the best calamari I’ve had), and a special scallop/jalapeño sushi nigiri as appetizers; then the spider and ecstacy rolls, which were very good; and finished it off with the molten lava chocolate dessert — scrumptious! Our waiter described the latter as a man’s broken heart, oozing a chocolate love through a still tender wound. We tipped generously :)

Delicious. We wanted to try a restaurant in our hood that we hadn’t been to yet, and chose Sangha. The wait was short, the decoration was nice(although a bit too simple), and our waiter was friendly and could recite menu specials without pause. Sitting in front of the head chef, Gerardo, my husband asked him to choose 1 appetizer and 3 rolls. He gave us the Grilled Prawns — a similar taste to andouille sausage, the ecstasy and ric rolls(both very tasty), then one more that I don’t know the name of. It was *awesome*! We’ll definitely be going back. Many thanks to Gerardo!

Cant wait to go back. This place turned me from a «i am not a sushi kind of girl» into Whose up for Sushi tonight, plus someone tell me where you go can for food and have something on the menu for all tastes… sushi, chicken, mash, steak and the dessert… wow… Throw in the fact that the staff genuinely seem to care about this place, and the happiness of its customers, and go out of their way to create a warm welcoming environment. What else could you possible ask for. it looks like the other reviewers did a great job going into detail on whats on the menu, lets just say everything is good, you really cant go wrong, and if you really dont know what to order, just have the fantastic staff talk you through their favorites and they’ll have your mouth watering in no time… Did i say you can actually see the sushi chef Gerardo, at the counter happily working away making your sushi Fresh, with a smile on his face…

Ack! Three was not a charm tonight as we arrived low blood sugar on a Tuesday evening. «Closed due to technical difficulties.» (on a post-it note no less) Meanwhile, I could see several staff peeps through the window having a serious discussion or troubleshooting. Wish they’d come to the door with more info, or a friendly«come back again soon.» Called before and got a friendly vm «open Tuesday-…» (for Oyaji as well) Teases! Goemon, Oyaji, then Sangha all no dice. Oh why must you deny us like that??? Stuck in a no sushi twilight zone. Will have to go back to have what those other folks were ‘gasming about! (and write a fair review)

I was skeptical but now I am a believer. Walked in, got a table immediately, service was fantastic. Asparagus was perfect, corn fritters delicious, ahi tuna salad fresh and surprisingly flavorful, the spicy tuna over unagi, crab and cucumber specialty roll with soy reduction(forget the name) was exquisite and my sweetie LOVED the 2 veggie specialty rolls he had, the one with jalapeño was VERY spicy which he loved. We’ll definitely be going back. Only complaint, needs artwork, a bit too bare, if for no other reason then to absorb noise and reduce the echo from all the concrete.

As expected, the star ratings are all over the map for our ‘newish’ little ‘mostly-Asian-fusion’ restaurant. I’m starting with 3 stars, I will go again and may change my mind. The sake menu is really nice and the unfiltered we got was perfectly mind numbing. My dining companion and I decided not to get too crazy with the fusion aspect of Sangha, maybe another time. The sushi is very good. Prices overall are a bit high. I can totally appreciate minimalist décor, but it’s just so drab and uninviting in here… grey empty walls, an ugly steel sculpture on the back wall, you are left with a blah experience. I expected a lot more since, from what I’ve heard, the owner owns Modern Past across the street, and is a very cool guy with great taste in design. i don’t get it. I AM glad this place finally arrived on Chenery, after sitting empty for years, I just think it could be better, and still be different. I appreciate how hard it must be to have a sushi restaurant ‘stand out’ in this town. Oh, there’s no forks, and my date couldn’t eat with chopsticks. That made for added entertainment, but we’re not dating anymore.

At first I didn’t get the interior design of this Glen Park gem. There’s a cold minimalist, monochromatic look that, while modern, almost felt cafeteria-like. But when the food arrived. Ahh, now that is when the room exploded in visual delight and flavor. If I recall correctly, the food is described by the owners as asian fusion with a Mexican influence. What ever the combo it’s worth the trip. Asparagus grilled to perfection. Sashimi salad had a very delicate dressing with the right amount of savory seasoning to compliment the fresh mixed greens. Fried calamari: crispy, but a little to salty for my taste buds. But the entrees were the big surprise hit of the evening. We had the salmon entrée which was my favorite. This dish just may be my new favorite salmon dish. It had an amazing combination of flavors, with unexpected garnishes like pico de gallo and black Thai rice. The filet mignon was cooked just right, and the corn fritters were the perfect complement. Customer service was great even with my two kids in tow. BRAVO Sangha. Bravo!

Flawless! Auguste Escoffier would be truly astonished. Escoffier was a French chef, restaurateur and culinary writer who popularized and updated traditional French cooking methods. He is a near-legendary figure among chefs and gourmets, and was one of the most important leaders in the development of modern French cuisine. Much of Escoffier’s technique was based on that of Antoine Carme, one of the codifiers of French Haute cuisine, but Escoffier’s achievement was to simplify and modernize Carme’s elaborate and ornate style. Through my culinary career I had yet to find an establishment successfully fuse two regions of cuisine and challenge my palate. Upon entering you will immediately notice the modern culinary touch of clean lines and simple colors and décor. The obvious business and culinary decision to keep things simple and tasteful so to speak, is to focus your attention on the obvious details, the people and the food. Good food does not need a distraction. My good friend and I ordered about 90% of the lunch menu. Each dish arrived in a timely manner and was presented without flaw and with a continuous«wow» effect. I specialize in garde manger, the art of the cold kitchen. I left the restaurant with inspiration and a happy palate. True«Sangha»!

I was pretty surprised to see this place last night. We were casually looking at the menu for Chenery Park and happened to notice Sangha across the street as we were walking away. We started with the sashimi salad which featured a very nice tasting seared maguro with avocado, mango, greens, and a nice light dressing(yuzu maybe.) Then we went on to the sushi which was really fresh tasting and all the pieces were very tender. We tried maguro, bincho, hamachi, and sake as well as the ecstasy roll. Although the nigiri/sashimi menu doesn’t offer alot of variety the pieces we tried were very good. The rolls looked great as well, there were very interesting looking vegetarian rolls on the menu. At the end of the meal our waitress offered us dessert which was a choice between cheescake and chocolate cake. This was the only mistake we made here. We ordered the chocolate cake and it took maybe 20 minutes or more for them to bring it out. The waitress was apologetic and the cake was good but not worth the wait. Also, they charge $ 2 for a cup of tea which I think is questionable even though they kept the refills coming. Barring those two minor issues I would have given a five star rating. That said I’m sure we will go back.

Sangha represents what I love about San Francisco – the mix of cultures, daring ventures, elegant design, networks of dynamic and progressive people, and of course, the excellent food. Mexican-Japanese cuisine! Brilliant! We had a lovely dinner here… the corn jalapeño fritters were incredible. Delicate and perfectly flavored. The tuna tartare was very good as well with the homemade tortilla chips. We tried a few rolls: Natas, Ecstasy, and the Nooni(?) roll. All were quite nice and had a special flair to them. Don’t think of the food as Japanese or Mexican. Open your mind and enjoy the unique and wonderful blend of these two cuisines. The most unexpected wonder of the night was the dessert. We tried the homemade cheesecake – have you ever had a steamed cheesecake? You must try it. It’s light and absolutely exquisite. Sangha is a gem of a find in my favorite neighborhood in the city – beautiful décor, excellent service, and wonderful food. Go now while it is still possible to walk in and be seated immediately! And don’t forget to ask the lovely Natalie about how they came up with the names of the sushi rolls!

The menu choices are pretty limited, so I probably wouldn’t go there often. The wine list is very small; hopefully they’ll expand the wine list in the future. The fish is good and fresh. My favorites are sashimi salad and ric roll. I do not like the way wine was served; in a small water glass, maybe 2⁄3 full and it can’t be more than 5 oz of wine for $ 8.00. Not a great value and it’s tacky.

Every bite was magnificent. You must order the tuna tar tare, in my opinion the most wonderfully perfect dish on the menu. Melt in your mouth bits of tuna and avocado erected into a cube-like structure. I seriously could have eaten two!! The dishes in their colorful artsy presentations provide a feast for your eyes as your mouth gets ready to enjoy what is to come. When I visited with friends thursday night the space was full but not too rambunctious or noisy as couples and friends enjoyed dinning out in the neighborhood. Ric(the owner) happened to be at the bar tasting new menu items and chatted with us about the ongoing additions to make the space more cozy and not so ‘sterile and new’ as it has only now been open about 30+days. Look for new sculpture and painting within the next month or so. Ric is right at the helm of a new dinning trend coming our way from japan: Mex inspired sushi. Sounds a bit strange right? But I promise you it is fun for your mouth. Other standouts that evening were the perfectly fried calamari with chipotle aioli. The breading was spectacularly light, crisp, and spicy and the squid was firm and springy-no rubbery tentacles. Our group also enjoyed the following standouts: Ecstasy Roll with ponzu dipping sauce, a few small bottles of the chilled organic sake with its fruity, crisp notes(sorry can’t remember the name) it perfectly complimented the food, and a roll with mango and hints of jalapeño meshed perfectly with the fish selected(hmm, I think it was the Nooni?) Go soon, I expect this place to take off and be very busy. Close to Bart and if you want to stay around after dinner there are two bars within walking distance to complete the Glen Park sojourn.

This review is written with the understanding that this place hasn’t been open for more than a minute. We started with the california rolls and an order of maguro. My date said that the california roll was excellent. My maguro was also very tasty in a somewhat unremarkable way, though I also noted that it smelled fishy. It didn’t taste at all fishy, so i suspect the fishiness came from something it was sitting next to. For the main course, my date and I ordered the Soy Chicken and the Filet Mignon to share. The filet mignon was beyond excellent. It was a wonderful cut of meat cooked perfectly, so tender and flavorful. The soy chicken, however, was so salty that it was a challenge to eat. I would love to see this dish improve. The décor was stark and cold and very very beige, which was a bit surprising for a cozy neighborhood like Glen Park. I would love to see more green accents there, maybe some paint or some pictures, to cut through all the boring beige. Also, they need a mirror in that bathroom! Though, I thought their use of ficus plants to divide the room was simply darling. I gave them four starts for good service and good food. All in all, a pretty good meal for being recently opened, and I can easily see coming here often! I can’t wait to see what happens when they get more in the swing of things.
