Small Frys

This is a nice children’s store in the heart of Noe Valley. I always find something reasonably priced and cute for my grand daughter. They carry a great selection and are always professional and helpful. Regarding the book the previous Unilocaler referred to, it’s intent is to discuss racial issues and identity, not to be a racist book at all.

Worst customer service experience I’ve had in a long time. The salesperson acted as if she knew how to fit children’s shoes, when, in fact, she did not. The first time my daughter wore her new shoes, they were so ill-​fitting that they fell right off her feet. When I brought back the shoes the next day, the salesperson said the shoes couldn’t be returned because they’d been worn. The owner came out and argued with me. Although the owner was quite rude, I stood my ground and, after fifteen minutes of arguing (with toddler in tow), I returned the shoes. Needless to say, I won’t be returning to this store.
Even more troubling, the store sells a racist book called «You Be Me, I’ll Be You». It is about a white father who puts coffee grounds on his face and flour on his African-​American daughter’s face so that they can «dress up» like each other. I can’t believe a book like this exists, much less that it’s available for sale in a San Francisco children’s store.

Great place!!! Love the selection of shoes, clothes and toys. There’s a little table area with toys for kids/​toddlers to play which is great for any parent while shopping. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Had a problem with a shoe and they kindly helped and resolved that issue right away. I wish there was a place like this on the east bay so I could come in more often.

Two things to love about this place– the service and the goods! It makes me happy that it is an independent brick and mortar shop in my neighborhood, not some chain. They have absolutely a great selection of clothes and gifts. For the past 4 years I have literally gotten every single baby shower gift from here and everyone oohs and awws when they open it and want to know where I found such cute stuff. They carry Tea, Zutano, Mayoral etc. They have a neat selection of books which I haven’t seen anywhere else – such as ethnic books that teach about festivals in Japan or Chinese New Year. Every time I walk through their door just to browse, I end up come out buying something else cute for my girls! The ladies that work here are excellent at helping me find the right thing whether it is another baby shower gift or a toy for a birthday party or clothes for my kiddos. Great service! They have been excellent about ordering a size I need and getting back to me when it arrives. Gift wrapping is also on the house which is refreshingly nice. So glad SF has this place!

This Noe Valley children’s clothing store has so much more! All the top brands, including dresses, shoes, socks, sweaters, coats, strollers, accessories, baby bags and toys. I think they sell new born to about size 10. Get your holiday dresses early as they definitely sell out!

Stopped in to buy a wedding shower gift. The two women running the store were very helpful, a total delight and had a great sense of humor.

This shop consistently is having sales, they carry unique clothes and they are always extremely nice to customers. They do free gift wrapping and are very knowledgeable about their product. I live down the street and always stop in there, there’s always something new and always have a great experience.

Love the staff!!! They are so helpful and cheerful. The store itself always has adorable products (shoes, clothes, toys, books). Some things are a bit pricey but all in all we really like this store. They even have a changing table for your bambino.

This has been my go-​to place to buy baby gifts and, believe me, I stop in here more than I’d really like. I tend to gravitate to the fuzzy ear hats since I am a big believer in dressing small children as animals as long as you can get away with it. Also, everything else in the store is ridiculously over-​priced. I’ve bought a couple «Yayyyy Area» baby shirts and they are so expensive it is a crime. That said, I’ll keep going because it is convenient and, even better, they gift wrap everything. I end up showing up with fun, cute stuff and it seems like I care!

Noe Valley is filled with children’s clothing and toy shops, but Small Frys is a winner for their personalized service and great selection.
Pros:
— They carry a mix of clothing, «sundries» (like sunscreen), books and toys so you can pop in for all sorts of stuff. They carry great brands like Tea Collection and Noodle & Boo. They also carry an interesting assortment of books that highlight the diversity of San Francisco.
— They offer free gift wrapping!
Cons:
— The store is small so while there is breadth of items, the depth of items and SKUs is relatively shallow. For example, there’s a relatively limited number of dresses for baby girls age 9 – 12 months.
— Prices are higher than you will pay in most other places (Nordstrom, direct from retailer, etc.).

Came here yesterday looking for a baby gift for my cousin’s new baby girl.
They have a great selection here! I really wanted to get one of their SF onesies but wasn’t sure if my cousin’s baby would fit it.
I went with a cute purple towel and rubber ducky set and even got it gift wrapped! The staff were very friendly and helpful and did a great job with wrapping my gift.
I’ll be sure to stop here when looking for any future baby gifts for my friends and family!

Great clothing here, but you will pay for it. They also have some really nice cultural books. My wife was excited to see Tagolog kids books. She hadn’t seen that before.

I recently bought a baby carrier for my sister in Costa Rica and she absolutely loves it. All their products and brands are super cute and the staff is extremely friendly. There is no need to go anywhere else, even Downtown, because Small Frys has everything! I highly recommend shopping here.

This is a great store! There are lots of cute outfits to chose from and the quality is great too. I had bought clothes for both my boys and whenever I look for gift shopping I always know that I could find wonderful selection at Small Frys. I especially love the baby shoes — soft, comfy and cute looking.
I like the variety of brands and also the books and toys that you can not find in other children’s stores.

Great for gifts! I can’t imagine any parent shopping here regularly, but in addition to a lot of cute clothes and shoes, there’s a great selection of eco-​friendly products, toys, stuffed animals, etc. Some things were a bit expensive, but I also noticed that others were reasonably priced.

This was my first visit, and I’m still suffering from sticker shock. Will update this review after a few more visits… But, in the meantime,
1 set of newborn mittens + 2 newborn hats + 1 newborn onesie = $ 75.

Great neighborhood store for quick kids gifts! It seems like every weekend one of my friends is having a bday party for one of their kids. I always grab a gift here in a pinch. The staff is very helpful and being a guy they are very patient with me!

Not very well organized. Styles a bit outdated for the prices and the store was a little cramped. I spent all weekend going baby clothes shopping and this place was the worst by far. Baby stores should make you feel happy, not depressed. Oh and the service was a big negative. there were 2 employees there who were too engrossed in their own conversation to even acknowledge our presence.

We love Small Frys! It’s not the most economical shopping trip, but they offer a pretty good variety of children’s clothes. I love the Zutano and Petit Lem outfits.
They also have a profile artist that comes twice a year. We look forward to the special keepsakes he makes with just black paper and a pair of small, sharp scissors.
In a pinch, I’ve used their changing room and found emergency diapers in most sizes in a basket, as well as some wipes for convenience. So thoughtful.
It’s a great neighborhood store that I try to patronize as much as I can afford to. Noe Valley needs more places like this!

I’ve just started going here since moving into the neighborhood. Infact, I used to go here about 10 years ago and loved it then. It hasn’t changed — still great selection of baby clothes.
I go here for gift purchases mainly since I don’t have any children — there is such a great variety of baby clothes with varied price ranges depending on your budget. They also carry non-​standard brands and items that you don’t find in the mainstream baby stores.
