Cute intimate bar in Hayes. The light up geode looking tables are a cool addition. It makes you want to sit at one of the tables… if you can get a table that is. The price for drinks is pretty reasonable, but the drinks seemed a little weak. It’s an interesting mix of people — Oprah house attendees, fancy Hayes Valley renters, and a small sprinkling of hipsters. Surprisingly I didn’t see any tech heads the times I’ve gone. Sugar Lounge gets pretty crowded. By the time my friend and I left the bar at 7pm on a Saturday night, the line to get a drink extended to the entrance way. Temperature wise, it can get kinda hot in there. Overall, it’s an okay bar, but not worth trying to battle for a drink when the place gets crowded.

Lush pink lights. Very sexy. Fun for a ladies’ night out. But it can get crowded so you might or might not end up with a table.

Came in after reading the reviews about the ambiance. Interior is cool but the place has no music, can’t even redeem the $ 1 off offer because the owner doesn’t appreciate her customers. This place sucks. Don’t come here.

3.5 stars Cool, low lit bar in the Hayes Valley area. The setting is nice and the drinks are well made. I think the seating areas leave something to be desired and the shaky high tops need some attention. I will definitely be back given the location and proximity to the Opera House and Symphony Hall. Hopefully they spruce up the seating area a bit though and perhaps a cocktail menu. Not exactly asking for the moon.

Really great bar; awesome location and yummy drinks… This could easily become a favorite if I lived closer, can’t wait to come back for happy hour sometime.

Great cocktails, great lounge, great artwork, great lighting. Stumbled upon this lovely cocktail lounge on a Saturday night after dinner nearby and couldn’t have been happier. I was with a few girlfriends and we wanted a nice little bar to grab a cocktail before we met back up with the rest of our friends and Sugar was exactly what we had been picturing, if not better. We all ordered the Richmond Gimlet — Hendricks, St. Germaine, simple syrup, lime juice, fresh muddled mint, and a champagne float. YUM Perfect spot for GNO, will most definitely be back!

Great happy hour, amazing décor(love the under lit agate bar, sofas and tables). Innovative cocktail list. Great looking food on offer(we didn’t try it having just eaten.) Happy hour drink special was a solid drink for $ 5. Great place to wait for City Arts and Lectures at Nourse theatre to open their doors. I saw all types, great neighborhood mix, one ancient, elegant woman on the couch that was dressed to the nines(who was being personally served by the bartender– very heart warming) a group of women from work near the door, a couple and their dog at the bar, two very in love couples(one gay, one straight) at the side tables, a loose group of men talking sports at the bar. Bartenders were quick, friendly and made lovely drinks. This is San Francisco.

I used to live in the neighborhood and was a regular here. Now, living in another state, I so wanted Sugar Lounge to be as wonderful as I remembered, so this was my first stop in San Francisco after checking in at my hotel. I’m not sure how they managed it, but they are actually better! The owners were present when I came in, and they actually remembered me, even though it’s been ages. Many of the regulars remembered me too. «Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name And they’re always glad you came» Jamie is such a great bartender too. That is reason enough to go in, but there are so many more reasons. The décor is fun. They keep mini-candy bars out for the guests. Weekday happy hour features delicious complimentary appetizers(like yummy tempura, egg rolls, homemade guacamole, and bite size Panini), and there is a daily drink of the day. Want to watch the game? No problem. Three different screens enable more than one sporting event to be enjoyed at the same time. Every day I was in town, I came in and every time I left happy. I have only one problem. Living 625 miles away, won’t allow me to come in again for awhile.

I have been to Sugar Lounge a couple times, once for a friend’s bday and other times for happy hour. All of the ones have always been good to my taste buds but not to my liver. Lol the drinks here are good and can be a creeper. We went this past Friday for happy hour and had such a good time. It looks like they had remodeled the place a lil bit by adding tables that have a glowing marble top. This definitely adds a fun accenting light to the place without making it look too dark. They do provide little munchies to snack on — grilled cheese with jalapeño peppers, egg rolls, guacamole with chips and tempura. The drink I stuck with for the night was the American mule. It was deceivingly light in alcohol flavor, but boy did I get a great buzz after 2. The ginger beer hit the spot every time in the American mule. My husband got the mandarin mule, it was sweeter than we like but definitely a good choice for people that want their drinks that sweet. We ordered a Jameson on the rocks and it literally looked like a full size cocktail, woah. At one point we ordered drinks and not sure how the order was wrong but the Owner Mehe(?) came over afterwards and gave us a drink on the house! How nice is that? She was really sweet and even came by every now and then to make sure we had a good time. We’ll definitely be back to enjoy more happy hours here. One tip I would say is get there around 5pm before it gets crowded and you can’t get a table.

The pink stripey awning outside of Sugar Lounge is vaguely reminiscent of a New Orleans strip club, and at night the exterior definitely gives off a tawdry vibe. But once you get in, there are clever twists on classic drinks(American Mule instead of a Moscow, Richmond Gimlet with Hendicks, mint, lime, St Germaine and a champagne float) the seating is comfy and ample and the music is at a fun level but still allows for conversation. Recommended for 20⁄30 somethings with time to burn after the opera, ballet or symphony. We outwaited the atrocious parking structure traffic after a performance and definitely recommend that strategy for anyone with a short fuse when it comes to ridiculous driving in a parking structure.

After passing by Sugar lounge every single day on my ride from dental school to home and seeing a huge pack of people outside, I finally made it here! And they have a $ 1 off Unilocal deal. I did not realize how popping Hayes Valley has become, I certainly will have to spend some more time here. Sugar Lounge was a nice cocktail bar. They have $ 5 happy hour and my friend got a cosmo. I wanted to try something strong, so they recommended the Richmond gimlet, and I told her I am not a gin fan, so she put vodka in instead. Thank you bartender! This place is small but a great place to come with a small group for a good drink and to hang out.

Went to this place after looking for someplace fun to hangout before Janet Jackson show. Read this on their website«Join us after work and sample Sugar’s award-winning Happy Hour. Featuring a $ 5 daily drink special, as well as happy hour prices on cocktails and beers, Sugar lays out a delicious spread of appetizers, from our sister restaurant Hahn’s Hibachi Family Style Korean BBQ Restaurant.» This made our decision a slam dunk! Wrong. No delicious spread of apps… lots of halloween candy… asked bartender about food, she said she could scrounge up from chips and salsa if we wanted. :(Drink was good… but had to split, needed more then fun size snickers to power me through a night of dancing! Kinda bummed! Wanted to like it.

A big array of cocktails as one would expect. We came here on a Sunday night as it was a holiday weekend and it was quite full at midnight. There are two sections(back room and front). The noise level isn’t too high. Had a nice ambience and the vibe is pretty casual. It’s in the heart of Hayes Valley so a nice spot to go before or after dinner :)

Great place for a super chill happy hour! It seems like half the people there are regulars and all chat with each other. It isn’t packed, either, so it’s easy to get a decent spot to sit. I think beers are $ 5 and well drinks are $ 6? Not bad for Hayes Valley! Décor is reeeally dated, but it’s very charming in a don’t-eat-anything-off-any-surfaces-because-they-haven’t-been-cleaned-since-1986 kind of way. But DO eat the happy hour mini-buffet, because you’re about to throw down 3 strong greyhounds on a weeknight.

If you’re a single dude or gay girl THIS is the place to meet women. Colorful candy colored cocktails with cute garnishes with free mini candy bars at the bar: #girlheaven Think I spotted two dudes, total. Drinks are strong and around $ 10 a pop and the lounge has low pink lighting and comfy couches. The candy assortment was average: Milky Way, Snickers, etc, but I mentioned FREE right? Cute bar for post work drinks and an affordable(rare) Hayes Valley spot.

5 dollar drinks who can’t be mad about that? Came on a Sunday, bartender was really helpful and patient with my group of friends. Really cool place to chill with friends while listening to throwback music. Also this place is very modernized and clean which is what I look for. Overall excellent experience!

Came here on the suggestions of the concierge at our hotel– Inn at the Opera. There was free appetizers for happy hour and drink specials! Can’t beat the nice ice cold beer before hitting AT&T Park for a game! Loved the mini grilled cheese apps! Nom nom…

Odd option. This place is a little weird — it feels like it’s trying to appeal to my 13 year old self — lit up bar, free candy and over the top. Didn’t really try the cocktails — wasn’t sure it would have been a good idea. We had shots and then leaves out.

I thought this was a nice little spot to grab a drink. It’s a bit of a hole in the wall, in a good way. The interior is SUPER dark, so if you have an unattractive date, it’s a good place to go lol. It’s also pretty loud, so if the date isn’t that smart and can’t hold a conversation, I recommend it as well. My drink was yummy, but the inside isn’t very big and it was standing room only so we didn’t stay long. The had a lot of specials and specialty drinks, so it took us a while to decide what we wanted to try but I liked that. The bartender was super busy but when we did finally get his attention, he was nice enough. As Unilocal says, this place is A-OK.

SITANDSIP (5 stars) Cute atmosphere, very chill, sit and sip kind of place. Love the cocktails!!! Tasty, good portion, and good pour. PINKPUSSYCAT — it has vodka, orange, mango, and another fruit. Those three fruits combined had the cocktail taste like a «Creamsicle grapefruit» taste. It was very enjoyable and fun as it was garnished with a hibiscus flower. PINEAPPLEEXPRESS — even better drink. All I know is that it had other fruits and obviously, pineapple. It tasted great! Even your after-breathe smelt good. I’ll be real, when many people take in fruity drinks and liquor their breath is tarty. Not after this drink. I kept wanting to smell a others breathe, and my own! And no, we weren’t drunk. Lol Love it and definitely will be back.
