Sunset Shoe Repair

Used to be a great trustworthy place to go for shoe repair but the ownership has changed. I went there a few weeks ago to have some taps put on my shoes as I’ve done many times before. The cost was $ 7.00 which has always been the price. They then asked me if I wanted a quick shine which they always do. After getting the shoes back they charged me an additional $ 9.00 for the 45 second shine which has never been done before. They just lost a long time customer due to an unannounced charge.

Came here to have them fix the strap of a pair of wedges. He was kind and quick. Just dropped off the shoe and told him what I wanted. It was $ 6-​pre pay. Was done in a couple days and looks great. Thanks!

I really wanted to find the place in all the positive reviews. I thought I had! My level of satisfaction, however, has plummeted with each visit.
I have a handbag by Coach. The strap had come unstitched. Coach wanted $ 25 to look at it, plus cost of repair plus I would have to pay shipping.
Sunset shoe repair said they’d fix it for $ 15. The guy was pleasant on the phone and seemed professional when I left my bag for repair. We agreed he’d restitch the strap at both ends. The bag was ready when promised, but when I got home, I discovered they had put a full twist into the strap before sewing it on. It needed to be unsewn untwisted and resewn.
I returned to the shop, noticed the grungy «NO REFUNDS» sign posted, and left my bag to have the «repair» corrected. I was less enthused returning a second time to pick up the same repair, but like some of the reviews mentioned, the neighborhood is interesting.
I used the bag for the third time since the repairs yesterday. One end of the strap has come unstitched again, and the other is ready to fall off, as well.
The only thing I can think is they must have used dissolving stitches.
It is reminiscent of the TV commercial showing ineffective multipurpose businesses such as minor surgery and shoe repair!
I won’t be returning to Sunset Shoe Repair and I hope I can save you the bother.

I took a pair of boots to get the heels replaced for the first time. I have never had my shoes repaired before and didn’t really know what to expect. I was quoted $ 65 to replace both heels on my boots. I was surprised at this price, but did some research and this seems to be about right. The owners were very friendly and trustworthy. My shoes were ready in a couple of days, and I am happy with how they turned out.

Absolutely the best shoe repair!!! Very knowledgable and very courteous!!! I have had my shoes done at several other local shops but the work done here exceeded the others by far!!!

I had my favorite pair of boots repaired here about a year ago. They look great, they’re still holding up very well, and the guys working there were very friendly!
However, there’s one thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars: ever since I got my boots back, there has been what feels like little pebbles inside them often. Like I have to dump them out sometimes. It’s gotten better recently, but it was really bad at first for a while. My boots had never done that before until they were repaired here. I wish I could give 4.5 stars since I’m sure this was a one time thing and doesn’t normally happen.
Overall I would come back here a second time if I need to, but if my boots are filled with constant pebbles again then my visits will probably end there unfortunately.
I don’t know what a standard shoe repair fee is since this was my first time ever doing it, but as far as I’m concerned it was reasonably priced.

Great place to get your shoes freshened up! Had a pair of heels in bad need of some TLC. Brought them in the day before I had an interview and they made them look brand new within thirty minutes. The staff was great, would highly recommend :)

Wouldn’t guarantee his job to put my soles back on my boots. Spent over $ 65. Fell apart within 2 wears. Not as experienced as Glenn, the previous owner.

I’ve now had two pairs of boots repaired here, and I think they do a great (and reasonably priced) job at it!
They charge $ 20 (I think… I may be misremembering but it’s close to that anyway) for a sole replacement and leather polish. I had two pairs of boots that I wore down the very short heel on. On one pair they built the heel back up a bit and put a new traction pad on the bottom. On the other, my previous cowboy boots, they shaved the heel down to level it out and put the pad on the bottom. Both pairs are doing great now!
Also, the guy who works here is very nice :)

I will never go back to this shop.
I’ve been here twice in the last few years. Each time the proprietor quoted a price for a repair and when I was agreeable, doubled it for a cockamamie reason. He does this with a grin, it’s some kind of game for him.
As a negotiating tactic, it’s highly repellent. It seems dishonest.
Much as I would like to support a local artisan small business, I say stay away from this one. He needs to change his ways or go out of business.
Oh, yeah — the quality of his work isn’t that hot, either.

The guys at sunset did a great job repairing the worn out heels on my girlfriends boots. New heel looks awesome, matches nicely, and they polished the boots up after they were done with the job.
Between this repair and an earlier job reattaching the sole I can highly recommend these guys.
Only area for improvement is if the boots were complete within the timeframe given. When I arrived to pick them up they still needed a polish and some touch up on the heel (a 10 min job) I opted to swing by the next day since I live up the street and didn’t feel like hanging around.

Poor work. I got the heels of my boots done before thanksgiving. Didn’t even last for a month. Not worth the $ 35 spent at all.

They can also fix old belts!
I have a lovely old white belt from my mother. The leather needed to be repaired, but I wanted to keep the style and the belt buckle. I had trouble finding a place that could replace the leather on a belt, until I found Sunset Shoe Repair.
Tony did an excellent job measuring the amount of leather, dying it white, and re-​attaching my mother’s belt buckle. I could not be more happy with their craftsmanship.

They did great work fixing my bag. I will definitely go back!
Quick turnaround too and a fair rate

I REALLY wanted to write a great review for Sunset Shoe Repair, however, sadly, I cannot. Sunset Shoe Repair was recommended to me by a good friend who took her Prada shoes there for repair and loved the service, experience and the way her shoes looked and functioned when she picked them up. So I thought I’ll bring in my Acne and Fiorentini Baker boots, along w/​a few other shoes.
WOW, I got back the Acne boots (needed a heel sole replacement) and the heel sole was crooked, literally crooked! When I pointed this out to the gentleman he told me that was my fault, it’s how I walk. ?, What? The Fiorentini Baker boots came back and the nails they had used to secure the sole to the heel were coming out of the HEEL! How could you NOT see that when you handed them back to me?!?
This place makes you pay up front, meaning if you pick up your shoes and somehow these guys have made them worse, regardless, you are outta cash. I should know, I asked.
Save yourself the stress and find another high rated shoe repair, these guys seem to be hit or miss. Unfortunately, my experience was a TOTAL MISS and I was out $ 156.00…

I’ve always just thrown away my shoes after they became tattered and worn but I have become a frugal consumer; only really purchasing new when I absolutely have to. So I decided to take in 7pairs of shoes all from a worn out elastic ankle strap to serious ER work of new soles and fabric patches. From $ 8-​$ 30 I was able to fix all of my shoes circa 2003. The men truly are gifted, making my shoes look new again. I would suggest leaving them until they are ready and not when you need them. Better to give them to room and have them done right.

Took my shoes in on the Thursday before Labor Day. The owner (?) was super friendly, gave me great customer service and an extra punch on their rewards card. Too bad that’s where my happiness ended.
Came back on Wednesday almost half an hour after they said the shoes would be done and was told to wait 30 minutes.
The job looks rushed; almost like they did it in the 30 minutes.
I brought a pair of bass shoes here that needed new soles and a patch on one side. The patch was terrible, using brown leather to cover my blue leather and it just looked unattractive. There was glue all over the inside. Do I have to wash that myself? Seriously!
$ 55 down the tubes for my first shoe repair experience. The heel repair doesn’t meld well with the existing sole. Not sure how long these will hold up. I’ll post photos.
I would not go here again and recommend looking elsewhere.

My mother always brought shoes here, and over the years I have brought in a few pairs here and there… however I recently brought in seven, yes seven, pairs of boots and shoes for new heels and soles. Almost all of them were quality shoes and had a soft leather sole that I had hopelessly worn down to the point of near destruction. One pair was of lower quality but a favorite, with the plastic sole split in two.
While given the volume this all was not cheap, but it was a good honest price per pair. i just picked them up and everything looks beautiful — heels and soles replaced with thick European materials, gaps and gouges in the leather heels touched up and everything polished.

Brought in my favorite boots that are well-​worn & had a broken zipper. Previously, a different well-​regarded repair shop tried to fix the zipper but broke it even more instead.
Brought boots in on a Friday, stating I needed the zipper fixed, heels replaced & a polish. Oh, and I needed it by Monday. «No problem» I was told.
Frankly, I was a bit skeptical as my experience with shoe repair is that it’s never ready when they say it is. Yet, on Monday I picked up the boots & everything was done & done well without an exorbitant fee.
I definitely recommend taking your favorite pair of shoes here, no hesitation.
