Today I passed by Sweet Days Ice Cream shop. To my surprised the windows were all covered with paper. Oh no, is it out of business? I was only there a few months ago when I discovered it served Swensen’s Ice Cream which is one of my favorite since I grew up around the original Swensen’s Ice Cream shop over on Russian Hill. I had mint chip, my all time favorite. The shop was clean and roomy. I believe this was the previous corner of Joe’s Ice Cream. Believe it or not, I never stepped foot in Joe’s Ice Cream and I’ve lived in that area for 10 years. The Sweet Days was good and the ladies were nice. I bought 2 pints to bring home and it costs approximately $ 10.00. This is similar to buying 2 pints at the supermarket or going to Ben and Jerry’s. Well, Joe’s Ice Cream was priced out of their space and personally, as much as I like Sweet Days, it was probably a bad business move since Joe’s Ice Cream wasn’t that far away and took his business with him. As far as the negative comments regarding the Sweet Day’s price, I am sure the price has to do with their rent.(Why else did Joe’s Ice Cream leave) One has to cover their operational cost which is then passed along to the customers. Another thought, perhaps that corner just does not have good feng shui for business? That’s why Joe’s Ice Cream is doing better in its new space plus the press it got for being priced out of that space. Food for thought…

I remembered the bf mentioning that the folks who owned Little Tokyo opened up Sweet Days, so I thought I’d check it out on my way back from lunch. The nice girl at the counter got my cone ready right away. I didn’t really pay attention to the rest of the menu, but I saw the girl preparing some bacon slices for a sandwich. They must have other non-dessert items. The place is nothing fancy and I didn’t really have an elaborate order, but I enjoyed my brief experience here. I thoroughly liked my ice cream cone and hopefully walked off most of its calories by the time I got home. Ordered: — Jamocha in a waffle cone $ 3.70 MLOU’S TIPS — — — – 1) Minimum $ 3 charge for credit cards.

Sweet and accommodating. Most of the Unilocal negativity has been about lunch. Can’t comment on that yet. As far as breakfast goes, I’m totally a fan. I asked for something completely off the menu(egg whites, wheat toast and jam) and they made it no problem. Didn’t even charge me extra. Americano was potent. Just missing sugar free syrup options. Will be back for lunch because breakfast definitely left me a fan.

This place has seen better days, I opted to go here because Joe’s is closed on Mondays, they should invest in a milkshake machine, the blender seemed like its seen better days too! I felt sorry for the guy because he seem to have a hard time making the milkshake. No air conditioning either(i know you are thinking… we don’t need air conditioning in SF) on our heat wave days, we do, at least its always cool at Joes.

I’m never impressed when spots advertise, «We Serve Mitchell’s Ice Cream» or «We Serve Swensen’s Ice Cream,» and Sweet Days is the perfect example why. There’s always something different with the flavors and the texture of the ice cream. In this case, ice crystals and stale tasting Swensen’s ice cream is what Sweet Days offers– and this was just from a couple sample spoons. Please, please make your way down one block to Joe’s Ice Cream– they’ve been running for 50+ years for a damn good reason!!!

So, I’ve been in the inner richmond for almost half a year now, and my girlfriend has lived in the area for most of her life – so we’ve sampled all her favorite ice cream haunts. Last week we finally tried out Sweet Days, which had previously been another ice cream place and has changed ownership. This is the best ice cream I have had in SF. Say goodbye to bland ice cream! They have«sticky» versions of a bunch of flavors and these are incredibly rich, almost chewy ice creams. They’re also not afraid to experiment with slightly off-the-beaten track options like chocolate orange peel(surprisingly citrus-tasting for ice cream, while retaining a rich chocolate flavor). Cost is slightly above average, I think($ 3.65 for a small), but for what you’re getting, I’d say it’s worth the price. I can’t speak to any of their other food, but if you’re in the area, and want ice cream, go here.

If price matters especially when buying a sandwich, I suggest heading to the store and building your own personal sandwich. This place is pricey if you have a strong feeling about paying $ 9 for a so so sandwich. I will take a pass when it comes to Sweet Days

Uh… I should start by saying we drove to the city specifically for Lou’s(just up the street) but they were closed on Friday for Easter so we walked down the street until we came across Sweet Days. It was very clean and organized but still had that feel of a hastily thrown together, quickly opened sushi place. Too much clutter with too much wasted space. I ordered two sandwiches, turkey club and a turkey. My total was close to $ 18. With pricing like that, I was expecting a stellar sandwich. Instead what I received was cheap wheat bread toasted, mayo slithering off, wet lettuce and under ripe tomatoes with microwaved bacon. The turkey was slimy and even better, looked and tasted like it was the cheap semi fake meat that is sold in 7 – 11. The pricing is way too high, quality needs to be thoroughly rethought. They advertised sticky peanut butter ice cream, looked promising, unfortunately I will not be coming back.

The sandwiches are very uninspired. I think I could taste the packaging brine from the meats and did not want to finish it. And for the same price you can get yourself one of Lou’s Cafes sandwiches which are quite amazing. When I went, the place was empty which was probably a good thing. I imagine with just one person working, if there had been more customers, I would have had a loooong wait, and for not terribly much. They also had a sign outside«new teriyaki chicken sandwich» and when I tried to order it, the lady was like«we don’t have that» and I can’t really imagine they sold out of it but he non chalantness tells me these people are not serious or passionate about the food they serve and it shows.

This is okay. The ice cream is pricey. They should have more things in their menu. It pretty plain.

Interesting how the other reviewer«reviewed» this place months before it opened… anyways… Tried a sandwich from this place today. The sandwich was good, fresh ingredients, tasted good — definitely a solid sandwich. My only issue is with the price: Base regular sandwich price — $ 6.95 Add cheese — $ 1(seriously?) Add Avacado — $ 1(reasonable) Total for my sandwich was almost $ 10 — while the sandwich was good, it was not worth $ 10. With all the reasonably priced options in the neighborhood they might want to reconsider their pricing.
