Walked in to be greeted by the three sushi pimps behind the counter, me and my girl made 5 people total in the house. 2 of those 5 would experience the best sushi of their lives. The other 3 would become legends. Yellowtail classic roll. Spicy tuna classic roll. Red snapper nigiri. Salmon nigiri and smoked salmon nigiri. All of this was so fresh I felt like Bear Grylls pulling a salmon out of the river and tearing it open with my teeth. So fresh and so clean clean

SOAMAZING but SOEXPENSIVE! I get that sushi should be expensive, but boy… it was a heavy price tag. On the plus side… it was the best sushi I’ve ever had. Seriously.

We started with the calamari — the cuts were long ways which gave it a more meaty texture, so good. We also had the fluke and albacore, both were incredible. Finally, we went with the lion king and tamashibow rolls and they were excellent as well. All in all, we couldn’t have had a better experience.

Walked in here after watching the Warriors game next door and surprised at how good the sushi is! Everything we ordered was great and especially loved the smoky flavor of the red hot snapper and spicy tuna tar tar. I do agree with the other reviews that service is slow and glasses were dirty that we asked for new ones.

Avoid this place. Trendy marina sushi bar with terrible service and questionable sushi. Two experiences I’ll share: 1) ate there with the GF, cups were dirty, water was brownish, service took forever, sushi was average, noise was deafening, super dark. $ 90 bill. 2) takeout: edamame was overcooked, sushi was fishy, teriyaki chicken was rubbery, and the to-go containers were all cracked so it leaked soy sauce all over my car and carpet at home. The next day I call them to tell them about the experience and ask how we can make it right. I spoke with the manager who’s name is Isaac. After I described the terrible experience to him, he said he couldn’t do anything about it. «Wait, aren’t you the manager?» I asked. «Yeah, I am the manager but we’re really busy right now. I can’t do anything to help you so have a good night.» CLICK. $ 70 bill + $ 10 tip. The sad thing is, I would have settled for a simple apology and maybe a beer, but the manager Isaac decided to take the arrogant path, ignore a local customer, and hang up. Avoid this place.

Great food, terrible service. Waitress was completely oblivious to us, weren’t serving half the things on the drink menu — why are they on the menu then? Rolls were good, get the bamboo roll.

My new favorite sushi spot in the city. I wasn’t expecting it but holy CRAP! I’ve never seen anything like it. Definitely get: Avocado Bomb & Spicy Tuna Tar Tar. The Spicy Tuna Tar Tar was probably the best combination of raw fish I’ve had in a really really long time. Avocado, tuna, whatever that delicious sauce was. Oh my. Other good things: Red Hot Chili Pepper roll, Double Shrimp. The real winners here though are the specialty sushi. Atmosphere: pretty casual and loud, it’s definitely a spot where people go before going out. Super good and I will DEFINITELY be making a trip back to the Marina to go here soon again.

I’m not a fan. I actually would prefer to give them a 1.5 star, or even a 1 star, but I really hope they actually have some other nicer servers. Food is fine. Prices meh. I saw on Unilocal that this restaurant had good ratings, so I decided to take my sister and my 3yo niece there. Parking in that area is terrible. half the streets were blocked off because of construction, so the parking availabilities were effectively halved. So I had to park in the neighborhood, but I only got that bright idea after 25 minutes of circling.(Don’t worry, I didn’t rate them on parking– this is just a warning to anyone with a car.) When I finally came running into the restaurant, my sister had already ordered food for her daughter, and the little one was eating it(good.) I barely have sat down and addressed my sister when the waitress comes over and demands«are you ready to order». I literally look at her and deadpan«I just sat down, I’ll need a moment.» Seriously, this woman– it wasn’t like I was socializing for the last twenty minutes and wasted her time here. I JUST sat down, I didn’t even completely take off my jacket, and I was still catching my breath from running in! I look at the menu, and prices aren’t exactly the best here, so I only ordered the spider roll, my sister got some hamachi appetizer and another roll, and the little one had a tempura roll and ankimo. I’m very glad my sister ordered for my niece before I came, because it took another twenty to thirty minutes for our food to come out. We were one of three parties in the restaurant at that moment, and no one had extremely huge orders. I have no idea what took them so long. Spider roll: pretty crispy crab, but drenched in sauce. Would have preferred less sauce. Hamachi appetizer: Really good, fresh fish. Too much sauce, but it was easy to remove. In conclusion: Won’t come here again, didn’t feel welcome. Our waitress was really forceful whenever she asked us «ISEVERYTHINGOKAYHERE» as if she was daring us to say otherwise. Food was decent, but not quite worth the price tag. ~~~ EDIT: About two days later, my sister had to go back to pick up our forgotten toddler utensils. I’m very glad and grateful that they kept it for us, because apparently my sister had to beg them to hold it because they were going to throw it away?(what the?), and when my sister retrieved them, her fabric bag that stored the utensils was soaking wet.(Ew! I hope it was water…) I then took this opportunity to talk to my sister about the service. I felt like that waitress was weirdly cold and not hospitable. Apparently before I came in, the waitress took my sister’s order incorrectly, and then blamed it on my niece. Not cool. My sister pointed at and SAID«tempura roll», and the waitress brought her a tempura appetizer. Not a huge difference, and easily fixable. but nope– the waitress took it to the cook, and said loudly«They ordered the appetizer, but the baby hanged her mind.» Excuse me– my niece is one to stubbornly stick to what she wants(Trust us– we would prefer she just eat the tempura appetizer). AND my sister would never allow her to inconvenience others with her fickleness. The cook was nice though– and just said to my sister«it’s okay, I have kids, I understand.» Sweet sentiment, but nope, you just have a very inept waitress. I think they have the potential to be a really nice good neighborhood restaurant, but the way that waitress treated us really left a bitter taste in our mouths. I’d rather go somewhere I don’t feel some waitress’ misdirected vengeance.

I actually came on a calm Thurs after a long day at work with a friend. We has started with a wine bar/café across the street and ended our evening here with some sashimi, wakame salad and suhi roll. I was impressed with the quality and freshness of the sashimi. The server behind the bar was friendly and when they had run out of a red wine that I was eyeing on the menu, he suggested a wonderfully lush Zinfandel(yay), which made me smile! The sashimi platter was select and small: 2 pieces of the following — escolar, hamachi, octopus, salmon, tuna. While I was happy with the smoothness and freshness of the sashimi, my dining partner was underwhelmed with the roll. All in all, I would go back for Sashimi and maybe, try a Japanese liquor next go around. Also, I would probably recommend a week night early dinner to avoid crowds

Tamashisoul, you’ve blown me away! Here’s the deal: In no way, shape or form did I walk in here today thinking it would be one of the best sushi experiences in a very long time– but it definitely was. These guys know how to make some mean sushi! The presentation is stunning, the service here is awesome and the sushi is down right incredible. The proportion size of the rolls themselves are misleading at first sight. They look smaller than your typical sushi rolls, but don’t let that fool you. I was completely full from two orders of their specialty rolls: The Bamboo Roll(spicy salmon topped with avocado, crunch, soy tobiko, scallion and their special sauce) and The White Angel Roll(spicy tuna and asparagus topped with white tuna and their special sauce). The spicy miso soup is also a unique and welcome dish; simple, yet rich in flavor. Other than the incredible food here, the service is very friendly and quick. I waited no more than 10 minutes for my food, and was back to work in 30 minutes total. It’s the perfect place for lunch, and makes for a great dinner as well. When it comes to first impressions, they’ve aced the test. I can really only say that parking is tough to find(unless you live/work in the area), but it’s worth looking an extra 10 minutes. Final verdict: You like sushi right? If you said yes, make your way over here as soon as possible for a delicious meal. If you said no, this is still the perfect place to start. Fresh sushi, tasty and made with passion. Basically, if you can’t tell by my enthusiasm for this great spot: you need to try it at least once.

Quaint little sushi place on the busy streets in the Marina. I came here after a dance workout and was ravenously craving sushi for lunch. This was the only sushi place open within a 15 mile radius! Everywhere else opened at 5 for dinner D: My expectations weren’t too high but I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable all the rolls were considering it is the Marina where overpriced food and luxury goods invade. Just a few blocks away a huge crowd of yuppies came out of Soul Cycle so I was expecting small portions and large prices. However each roll was only $ 10 – 15 and the portions were very filling. The décor and ambiance was quite dark for a place that opens at 11 am, but the staff was incredibly inviting and gave the best recommendations. I ended up deciding on the King Salmon roll which was baked salmon and raw with cream cheese which is my absolute favorite. The rolls come in 8 pieces and I was debating about getting a second but the first one truly hit the spot. Sauce was tasty but not overwhelming and salmon was fresh as can be. I will definitely be coming back whenever I’m in the area!

Mmmm… I’d come back but only because the Sweet Scallop roll gave me such a good first impression that I’m curious about their other rolls. It’s sweet and had a hint of spice. I can do without the Red Hot Snapper roll though, even with the super cool presentation — it comes wrapped in foil and they light it on fire. The waiter says they were trying to do something cool but it seems it didn’t work. The breaded tuna was way too salty for me. So I noticed that they had walu on one or two of their rolls but they didn’t have it as just sushi or sashimi. I asked the nice waitress and she may have been new but she said the walu is actually the white tuna. To my knowledge, not so much but whatever, not that big of a deal. Just letting you know so you don’t have to ask if they just have walu sushi or sashimi. Should’ve went for the uni instead…

Parking around Union is a serious pain so I’m so excited that Tamashisoul is only two blocks away from me. They have the best sushi rolls and their spicy miso soup is the bestttt. It’s hard for me to find sushi places that I absolutely love so I’m so grateful to have this place so close. Their service is fantastic. The place is a little small but totally ordinary in relation to most places on Union.

Tamashisoul is missing exactly that, it’s soul. Located in the heart of the Marina, this place already has a reputation before even entering the establishment. Whether that is a good or bad thing I’ll leave up to you to decide. The cold and dark interior can’t help but feel like it’s missing something — perhaps authenticity? It’s perfect for the Marina crowd with their eyes constantly on another prize, but perhaps for sushi aficionados they could have brought in some more Japanese influence. Don’t get me wrong, the food is good — but I wouldn’t call it great, especially for the price. Tamashisoul has the perfect amount of white-washing mixed into each dish so you don’t have to worry about eating actual sushi. Fried here and charred there, you can get whatever your heart desires. Extra sauce? They’ve got that too.

Very happy with the experience I had here. Came for drinks and apps with a friend. We got the tuna tartar as well as some other sashimi pieces and it was DELICIOUS! The fish and the other ingredients were fresh, the presentation was on point and the wait staff was nice. All in all the whole package. Next time I’m in SF I’m definitely coming back!

Came here last night before a show. Literally 5min into ordering food, the place packed up. Friendly host and waiters. We set by the bar and were able to watch the All Stars 3 point contest while eating some flame torched mussels, calamari salad, hamachi carpaccio, sashimi combo plate, Uni, Rainbow Roll, and a bottle of Dassai sake. Superb!

Came here with my bf and loved this place. We came here after work so it was kind of later in the night and it’s located on union street. We drove here and there were lots of parking which was great! The girl that served us was so sweet and the man that was there was so wonderful too. He kept checking on us and made sure we were good. The bummer part was that they charged for green tea. I feel like they shouldn’t charge anyone, i MEANITIS a japanese restaurant after all… but we got the avocado bomb, red hot snapper, bamboo, tamashi on fire, and vanilla tempera ice cream. I have to say that the two rolls on fire were pretty interesting to watch. Bambo was covered in a sweet and sour sauce which, I liked a lot but my bf didn’t. The best thing and MUST get is the tempera ice cream. I’m usually not a huge fan of tempera ice cream but woah this was dry good! I absolutely loved ice cream! It tasted amazing! The flour was perfect and it was huge!!! The two roles were pretty much had been topped with mayo and some dot of hot sauce. Wasn’t too impressed. Service A+ Fish very fresh A The method of the sushi was mediocre so I give it a B.

So stoked to stumble upon Tamashisoul. I struggle to find good sushi in SF. Yeah, you heard me. Sure, we’ve got great omakase and live sushi — but none of it is affordable or easy to snag a reservation at. I’m talking affordable, but high quality sushi you could actually have a few times a week if you really wanted to without breaking the bank. In the South Bay, places like these are nearly on every other block. Since moving tonSF, I’ve struggled to find«my» regular sushi joint. Well, I’ve finally found it in Tamashisoul. Every roll we ordered was solid. Large portion, high quality fish and reasonably priced. The restaurant itself is inviting and clean. I highly recommend Tamasahisoul to anyone wanting to get their sushi fix.

Let me start by saying that this 4-star review started as a 2 star experience, then moved to 5 stars, and then back to 4 stars. Basically, this dinner fluctuated more than any dining experience I’ve had in months, and one could say it was a bumpy road at times. The first faux pas was when our waiter went MIA after seating us. We waited 15 minutes before being served even just water, at which point we were finally able to put in our request for the bottle of pinot. Given the slow start, we decided to place our entire dinner order at the same time. Not only did our pinot not show up for another 15 minutes, the couple sitting next to us(who, I swear to God, were seated 10 minutes after us) got their wine first. I’m not being childish, but when this happens at 8pm on a Tuesday night in a restaurant with literally 5 couples in the entire space, it seems almost comical(but trust me, we weren’t laughing). Just when we saw the waiter finally approaching, it was to our disappointment to see he wasn’t carrying our wine, but instead our miso soup. A minute or so later, our wine came out… along with our 3 rolls. You see, this sort of poor timing throws off the whole meal. Part of the art of dining out is the perfectly timed intervals between wine, the starter, and the rolls, and while no one is perfect, I regret not enjoying a solid 10 minutes of just wine(and conversation, of course). Onto the food, and the reason this review deserves 4 stars as opposed to the 2 stars it started with: the mushroom miso was phenomenal. It was light but almost hearty in a way I’ve never experienced with miso. And the rolls! We had the White Angel(my favorite), the Rainbow, and one more which I regret not remembering(or finding on the menu as I review now). It was crunchy and only mediocre. Three huge rolls were just enough for us 2 to split and leave feeling super satisfied, yet not so much that we were running home to nap. In retrospect, this meal was delicious and the company was fun, but the service was unreliable, and I hope for a more attentive staff if I ever go back.

Thanks Unilocal for the new find in my neighborhood! Never heard of it or seen it before, so wanted to try something new. Everything was delicious from the edamame(pepper and salt!) to the 4 amazing rolls: Tamashi on fire, bamboo, red hot chili pepper, and shrimp dragon roll. All were very flavorful and delicious, and neither of us could pick a stand out favorite! Always an amazing place when every item is consistently good. I would definitely come back here! It’s about $ 25 with rolls, app and some sake. Not bad! If you’re feeling adventurous and a lush, get the«buy a shot and get a cocktail free» Unilocal check in special! It was only Monday, so… we passed!
