I’ve been here several times in the past usually thought it was pretty decent. However tonight was the first time I’ve been couple years and really I have to say it’s three stars. Every type of fish that we had was pretty fishy. The beer was warm, The super lacked a deep flavor and in general nothing stood out as being very tasty. This is unfortunate as it is this she puzzle has had a reputation of being A great sushi restaurant in the marina. I probably won’t be back anytime soon even though our server was very nice.

Interesting fish choices but wouldn’t call this place a real sushi restaurant. Every nigiri was drenched in ponzu. If you don’t wanna taste the actual fish but rather enjoy over dipping your nigiri with soy sauce this will be the place to be. Really poor knife work. Sushi is an art form and great knife work is critical for its taste and beauty. It’s disappointing that everyone and anyone can call themselves a sushi chef without proper training nowadays… Rice was warm. Pushy service. Final thought: Overpriced and overhyped«sushi».

Okay… coming from all you can eat sushi town USA(aka Reno, NV), I was a little apprehensive about this«new concept» of paying for each roll. Holy mackerel(sea what I did there?) — so glad we gave this place a go! We ordered 5 or 6 rolls and two orders of nigiri and everything was great! They had so many different varieties of fish and possibilities. The sea bass appetizer was great all the way through to the green tea ice cream. Even the wasabi was fresh. We seemed partial to anything with butterfish. Can’t wait to come back and have the halibut and uni, next time we are in town. Thanks for a great experience!

The sushi was fresh food the most part. Everything was good from the buri to the saba. You can order a specific number of pieces per omakase which I already really appreciate. Plus, the best hand roll really was the best. I think this place is a great deal in the city for what it is. Only issue was the ocean trout had an unexpected fishy taste that I’ve never seen before. Other than that, no real complaints. 4.5

Date night! Decided to try a new sushi joint because duh! Sushi is the perfect date night special. My date heard about this place through friends and heard the Omakase was the . We just had to try it! When you get there, you’re taken to a table to sit down and wait for sushi chef Roger. He needs time to prepare so in the meantime, you can enjoy sake and edamame. Once ready, you’re taken to the sushi bar in the back and the experience begins. OH-EM-GEE. What an experience it is! Probably THEBEST sushi I’ve ever had. The quality of the fish is incredible. The types of fish and where they come from are amazing. He had 7 different types of salmon as an example. WOW. And Chef Roger’s personality was unlike any other. He was so funny, super sarcastic, yet really made you fall in love with the food. What set this experience apart from any other was the fact that he educated you on the fish, it’s origins, how to eat it, how to savor the flavor and then took care of the rest. From homemade ponzu and wasabi, to habanero cream sauces, he used it all. Some of my favorites included the soft shell crab and spicy tuna hand roll with kelp seaweed. The crab was katsu style so a lighter breading and super packed with flavor. The scallops were amazing and made in two ways: nigiri with lemon slices and ponzu and poached with sake. Both were amazing as well. We had hallibut sashimi from Spain, sake roe and more. My absolute favorite dishes were the end dishes. The first one was a huge sashimi platter with all types of salmon, some tuna and swordfish. Then he made a «royalty» special, a toro platter. 4 types of toro which included the toro cheek. Talk about melt in your mouth!!! Before dessert, he also made us a kobe beef nigiri. It’s part of his«secret royalty» menu(although I know he was joking). Creamy kobe charred with truffle salt and kobe lard. It was incredible. We ended with a little sorbet, wasabi ice cream and kobe lard ice cream as well. What an experience. This was by far, the most amazing sushi experience I have ever been too. We had a bunch of plates, all created and decided on by Chef Rogers(all you tell him is what you don’t like and what you’re allergic to). I can’t remember the amount of plates but the total for both of us was around $ 300. If you’er willing to spend that amount, you are going to get the most amazing experience of your life. I can’t stop thinking about it. Go there and try it for yourself!

Edit* Bumped the 2 stars to 3 because my friend was crying about it. More like a 2.5 star review, but we’ll round up for the sake of his sanity. It pains me to write this review as a lot of my closest friends consider this their favorite omakase place, but I can’t lie to you people… this place is extremely overrated. After my visit, it was agreed that the quality has gone down tremendously. For around $ 200/pp(omakase) you’d think that you’d get A+ service and the highest quality food… NOPE, absolutely not. While the fish was fresh, the cuts and rice/fish ratio was terrible(see pictures). It’s like the chef just did not care that day(or ever, based on his facial expression the entire meal). We received the soft shell crab handroll, scallop/lemon nigiri appetizer, lamb sticks, and several assorted nigiris. All of this tasted OK, but like I said, just look at the pictures for a truly WTF moment(there’s freakin’ wasabi hanging from places it shouldn’t). It doesn’t help that this place looks super rundown. Also feels more like a Chinese restaurant than a sushi joint. For the price I paid that night and the quality of food I received, I would NOT come again.

If you go here, you must do the Omakase with Roger! Seating at the counter is limited to about 7 – 8 people so make a reservation. It is such a treat to eat the best of the best of nigiri and anything special Roger has in store for you. He introduces you to so much flavor and preparation technique, so much fresh fish and food straight from Japan, plus he’s got great personality and stories to accompany the meal. Roger’s menu changes, but we were treated to salmon roe, soft shell crab, uni, scallops, tempura, toro prepared in different ways, super toro, bone marrow, white salmon, Kobe beef and homemade sorbet. We were good and full, and you will so enjoy your experience here best at the counter. I can’t wait to come back!

Right around the corner for me. This is a must try if you’re a sushi lover. Make a reservation for sure. Otherwise, go right when they open. You need reservations if you want to sit in the back where you can talk to the chef and get a more personal experience.

Friends Unilocaled this joint and said it’s got wonderful reviews so we tried it!!! It’s located on Lombard. Arrived at 7:15pm and place was packed, so many patrons got turned away without reservations. Front of the restaurants are tables and sushi bar is in the back. It isn’t a huge place but holds decent amount of tables(maybe 8 – 10???). While we decided on picking our own sashimi platter, we had edamame and ankimo, which was the creamiest liver I’ve ever tried. Soooooo super tasty. Soft shell crab was so tender. Their signature(not-on-the-menu) fried sea bass handroll wrapped in a thin crêpe, not seaweed. Had a bit of sweetness and poki like texture. Awesomeness idea! Fresh scallop nigiri, the lemon peel just gave it that extra sweetness. Our sashimi platter had so many varieties of fish: toro, sake, hamachi, maguro, several others I just don’t remember… Because we had 8 bottles of hot sake accompanying the endless plates. Nice whole fish presentation which they will deep fry for you too. Our dinner ended with creamy Uni… heaven! We didn’t leave till 10:30pm and not once were we rushed. Great service and attentive. Must return!

This place is awesome! — food quality was great. Fish is so fresh; we ordered red snapper, ikura, sashimi sampler, tempura, hamachi roll. I was just hoping to get the uni. — service: 5⁄5. Waitress was super friendly in a reasonable way — ambience is quite and convenient. — location is great close to Chestnut and Steiner.

Best sushi I’ve had in a while. Everything is incredibly fresh, the waiters are super polite and the overall environment is classic simple sushi awesomeness. My GF and I will definitely be returning :)
