I really want to like this place, but there’s nothing special that makes this restaurant stand out. Yes, there’s a traditional Japanese seating arrangement in front for seiza(sitting on the ground), but the quality, variety, and service just aren’t up to par with nicer sushi restaurants. I wouldn’t consider the fish all that fresh, but it is a great late-night option to satisfy your craving. I won’t rule this place out entirely, but I also wouldn’t make this my first choice for sushi.

2 stars: I would prefer not to come here again.(But I might if I remember to check and double-check.) I did a pickup order from here. For the main dinner they forgot to put in rice/soup. If you are getting take-out, make sure it’s there before you leave. The sushi rolls were decent, nothing too fancy.

Selfish workers here will not make food in order. Took them 30 minutes to make one roll to-go. Do not go here, you have been warned.

So apparently Elephant Sushi only takes groups up to four. Needless to say, our group of five ended up on a Friday night at Wasabi & Ginger. Food breakdown: 2⁄5 Edamame(Boiled soybean). Granted this was free but the edamame tasted chewy and old. No amount of salt can make that tasty. 3⁄5 Gyoza(Japanese pot stickers, pork and vegetable inside). These were a-okay. They came out hot but did not taste special or memorable. Next time I would pass. 3⁄5 Tiger Roll(Shrimp tempura topped with snow crab and crunched honey walnut). My roll was probably the best out of everything our group ordered. I enjoyed the crunched honey walnut but overall thought the roll was pretty mediocre. 4⁄5 Sake Bombing. I love that our group of friends was able to sake bomb and no one minded! It is such a fun thing to do while you are eating sushi with a large group. The Sapporo was an extra plus :) Overall, I really appreciate how accommodating the restaurant was being by seating such a large group on a short notice. That being said, the food was a-okay and I probably would not return.

A bit off the beaten path, but worth the visit if you’re in the neighborhood. Everything I have ever had here is pretty good. I love their California rolls! The crowd can get a bit rowdy and I sometimes feel dirty being in the place(can’t quite explain what it is), but food is worth it!

This is a great neighborhood sushi place for my roommate and I. They have free edamame and everything else is reasonably price for fresh and good quality pieces. They also have floor seating which is neat when you go out with a larger group of friends.

This place is getting better and better! It’s close to my work, so I’ve eaten here 5⁄6 times over the years. It’s always been good, but last night it got excellent! Met a chef we haven’t seen before — Albert. He and his partner Charles took great care of us. Sushimi to die for — toro, hamachi belly, salmon belly! Yum!!! Like butta(LOVE)and generous cuts too. Uni/ikura tasting spoon!!! Miso salmon!!! Albert even treated us to desert — mochi ice cream. Thank you Everything was so delish . Friendly and very hospitable service. And for the high quality of the fish, truly affordable. Thanks guys! Just what I needed at the end of a long work day. Definitely will be back and soon and more often. 5 stars!!!

I had dinner there a recent rainy night. I had«special» sashimi Miso Salmon, a spicy scallop hand-roll and the teriyaki chicken meal. The fish was fresh and the dish tasted good. The hand-roll was smaller than what is normally served and with the scallop portion being minimal. I could barely taste them. The meal consisted of a bowl of rice, miso soup and a large portion of chicken. The rice was perfectly cooked. The miso soup was good and chicken was OK. I thought it was a little chewy and the teriyaki sauce was decent. Prices were fair and the service was excellent.

I had such a disappointing experience at Wasabi & Ginger recently. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner after looking for a nearby place(looking at the Unilocal reviews this seemed to be a good choice). We were immediately greeted and sat at the Sushi bar because there were no tables available(totally fine, I actually like sitting at the sushi bar). The waiter greeted us with the complementary edamame and brought ice waters as requested. We were able to put in an appetizer order very quick, but she ran away before we could decide on the rolls. APPETIZERS: I went for the seaweed salad. Nothing special, just what you would expect, fresh, simple, decent portion. My boyfriend got Miso soup, unfortunately they served it to him without a spoon causing him to get up and have to track down the waitress before he was able to eat. ROLLS: I was surprised to see they have a few vegetarian roll options(yay) but unfortunate that most were tempura(boo). I decided on two rolls(avocado maki & plum/mint leaves) also got the vegetarian gyoza to share. My boyfriend got two rolls(I think the 49ers and the crazy roll). I received my rolls/gyoza first. we were able to share the gyoza and I have my b/f a couple pieces of my rolls as he was waiting. The waitress was no where to be found for quite awhile, only stopping by about 10 minutes after I received mine to say his would be up shortly. Another server dropped off my boyfriends meal about 10 minutes after that, we were not checked up on until we completed our meal. The server never said anything about the long wait or lapse of time in between our meals. Interestingly enough, neither of us were given any wasabi… or ginger with our meal… which I happen to love. Unfortunately we only saw the server again when she came to drop the check, never asked if we wanted another round of drinks or dessert… When she cleared the plates the SPILLEDTHETRAYOFSOYSAUCE all over my boyfriends pants and ran away(much like she did for the entire meal) only to come back and run the credit card. Overall, very upset with the service here and not entirely impressed with the food either. Possibly this place was just too busy the night we went, but I am not sure I would give it another try.

The salmon sashimi is so fresh here!!! It is delicious and not too expensive. 4 pieces for $ 8. The Romeo & Juliet roll is deliciously topped with spicy mayo. Yum. Good neighborhood alternative to sushi on Polk Street.

Came here last night for a birthday gathering which is a good place for small groups. My go to sushi joint when I lived in the city and same place now out. Lol. The waitresses were all very sweet and tentative. Sushi was fresh and rolls were good size. My favorite is the Dragon roll. Love the hamachi collar and carpaccio. Had a bottle of unfiltered sake that I wished I wrote the name down. Not sure why all the bad reviews but Im still a fan. Plus free valet parking! Can’t beat that in the city.

I come here every once in a while because it’s down the street from where I live. It’s good standard sushi, but wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here. Prices are average. Oh, and you’ll never have to wait for a table — which is either good or bad.

Stumbled across this place while we were walking around the neighborhood on a Tuesday night. No wait in line at 5PM. A pleasant surprise! Five stars for service and complementary edamame, chicken karaage(for checking in), and ice cream. To keep it short, food was tasty, prices were very reasonable and fish was fresh. The omakase sushi 10 piece was only $ 30.

Came here on a Friday night and was promptly seated at the bar. Food selection and service was excellent! We ordered Dragon roll, Volcano roll, the sashimi specials, uni nigiri, baked mussels, and something jalapeño(?). The jalapeño dish was suprisingly really good! All the food was very tasty and the fish was fresh. Oh, checked in on Unilocal and I got free chicken karaage, which was soooo good!

Some of the better sushi we’ve had in the city – which is surprising since there was a big group of obnoxious Marina-kids sitting in the private in-floor dining room at the entrance. Sushi quality was very good – fiancée loved the tako, amberjack, and toro. Decent uni. I really liked the Romeo & Juliet roll which has raw scallops on top, and salmon and avocado on top. Prices are also very reasonable, at $ 8-$ 12 per roll, and $ 4-$ 8 for 2 pieces of nigiri or sushi. They had space on a Friday night at 8:30pm – I think it’s because it’s outside of the hearts of Pac Heights and the Marina. Good for us! This will be a go to spot from now on, and we will definitely be ordering delivery from here. Yay! Check in, and get free karage(fried chicken bites).

We had a party of four and each one of us ordered a sushi roll. Two out of four were very bland and little to no flavor, the other two were ok. If you do order, get the chef’s special. I gambled and ordered the special and my roll was the best out of the four. The area is really cute

I came here with friends because she told me price wise that these guys were better than my regular spot at Ryoko Sushi. So I am not one to turn down an opportunity unless I’ve tried it once so I figure I’d give it a shot. Went through a battery of Nigiri and hand roll: Toro Handroll, hamachi toro, black seabream, red snapper, ocean trout. The flavored were decent but nothing mind blowing like other places I’ve tried. A solid 3.50 on a good day. The problem came on the order of hamachi hand roll where there was a huge piece of bone that I bit down on. There is one thing that is paramount in any sushi restaurant and that is the proper preparation of the fish to make it suitable for the customer. The largest dishonor for a sushi chef is to fail at the simple prep of remove the bone. For that I have to give you 1 star. T
