Love the environment here! Cheap drinks and a cute dog named Swisher to greet you at the door. Great selection of beers. Favorite part was the upstairs pool area. If you’re looking for a dive bar in the Richmond, go here!

Pitchers of beer, darts & pool!!! Great place to hang out with your friends. Not one those ratchet bar, it’s relatively quiet, perfect for nights where you just want to catch up with your friends and still be able to hear every word they are saying without having to scream at each other!

Great little neighborhood bar that usually isn’t too crowded. The bartender is really nice and relaxed. This place is a great little gem to go and have a quiet, pleasant night out for some drinks with friends.

I came to The Bitter End with a large group after an afternoon at the 540 Club and a reading at Green Apple, making this the last of three stops on a long, wonderful day in the Inner Richmond. I was a little drunk when I arrived, and I was at least as drunk when I left, without any disasters either in between or after. But I guess«The Safe, Pleasant End» doesn’t have much of a ring to it. We were able to walk in without difficulty with like eight to ten people on a Monday night between 8 and 9. We got a nice row of tables downstairs and pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. This is a great thing for a neighborhood bar. The bartender was nice, if I remember correctly, and I think I had one or two Racer 5 IPAs. The beer selection was decent, though I thought 540 Club’s was better. I also ate dinner here, choosing, for whatever reason, the grilled salmon with salsa. My friends gave me shit about ordering salmon at a pub when there were so many pubby items on the menu, but I must’ve been in the mood for some healthy-ass grilled fish? I don’t know. I enjoyed it in any case. Not the kind of entrée you’d come to The Bitter End to consume, but a moderate $ 12.50 and was perfectly serviceable. It came with some kind of a vegetable medley and a choice of garlic mashed potatoes or french fries. Those details are lost to time. I had a lot of fun at The Bitter End and would spend some time here if I lived in the area. It’s a cool bar with a calm vibe and some food for when you need it. Seems like it has all it needs to be a neighborhood stalwart.

Pretty great dive-bar! Went on a Saturday night and found it not too crowded, which was great. They had a good selection of beers on tap, ample seating, two pool tables, and two dart boards. The place looks smaller from outside, but then you realize there’s a whole other floor to it. It’s a pretty cozy place and the vibe is super chill. Definitely coming back here.

YES, my favorite dive bar in SF. Darts, pool, Tuesday night Trivia — what more can you ask for. From the outside, it looks like your standard small Irish pub but it’s surprisingly spacious with two floors. This is a great place to come unwind and relax — you will not be disappointed.

Been waiting here for 20 mins and not even been asked for a drink. She is probably the worst bartender I have seen, she is lost or drunk hard to figure out.

Decent dive-bar. Go on a weekday night and you’ll see a lot of SF technies loitering around trying to be cool in their foot-long bacteria engrossed beards and shoes that cost more than my entire wardrobe. Go on a weekend night and you’ll see the same thing but this time with women who are trying to act non-chalant about the Brawny man trying to take her home. Drinks are moderately priced and they have a good selection of stuff on hand, including good whiskey. The bartender(male) tends to be drunk… so make your drinks basic. Upstairs has a dart area that’s engulfed in darkness and the other side is a pool table or two with a non-working pay phone(we tried) and lots of people hanging over each other in drunken stupor. While people watching(holy shoes this place is good for that) we witnessed 2 or 3 maybe-hook up’s happen and one gal take a bro home. Good on you, gal! I don’t mind it overall, and when in SF and needing a dive bar that isn’t clustered with imbeciles(check out the places across the street) and in a safer ‘hood, this place is our go-to. It’s also not far from Sutro Baths which is great for late-night hooking up. There’s also a really cool suit of armor upstairs that you can’t touch :(

Great local dive bar! Met up with a few friends here for the first time, the other day. I was pretty surprised that the place wasn’t too crowded, considering the day and the late night hour. Pretty casual and laid back atmosphere make this place a great place to meet up and hang out. Good selection of beers, too. I wish I had more hands so that I could give this place 4 thumbs up! I will definitely be returning to The Biter End.

Come here with your bros after crunching out some code at work and reps at the gym so you can watch Frisco Giants Baseball. Bring your best Izod and date rape drugs.

It’s a great local dive bar. It doesn’t get too crowded as well! It’s a laid back atmosphere and pretty casual. They have great selection of beers and well drinks. They have typical bar food: burger, chicken wings, chicken strips, fries, steak, ect. I’d recommond coming here!

For a couple of years now, my group has defaulted to Mad Dog in the Fog for trivia nights. It was always crowded but never felt like a truly engaged community. The Bitter End reminded me of my favorite local Irish pub back in Seattle and I immediately fell into its shabby-chic embrace. From the outside, it looks like your standard issue Irish pub but it’s surprisingly spacious with two floors of seating. There’s ample booth space so showing up at 8 pm for a 9 pm trivia(Tuesday evenings), I had my Goldilocks’ choice of places to sit. The waitresses have friendly Irish lilts and flit about at just the right time to re-fill pitchers and clear away plates. The food is nothing to sneeze at(think curry fries that tasted a bit like gravy, Shepherd’s Pie, etc) but the beers on tap are a plenty! Now for the trivia format: never underestimate how much time is saved by having another team grade your answers. We’re all grown-ups here;(most) of us wouldn’t cheat. The team name with the most crowd-whooping reaction(usually as un-PC as possible) gets a round of shots on the house with the top three places receiving cash monies ranging from $ 10 to $ 30. There was a healthy mix of topics covered from presidents to history to music and pop culture. Bonus: a live musician decided to pump up the trivia goers with some sing-alongs, just for kicks and giggles. Camaraderie? It’s here in spades!

My go-to bar in the neighborhood. Good drinks, chill vibe and good music! The bartenders are always super quick and friendly. Came here for late Sunday lunch and Bloody Mary’s a few weeks ago and it was also great.

I see why The Bitter End has become my sister’s favorite watering hole. The atmosphere is laid back, casual, and a great place to chill with friends over a beer or two. At first glance, it doesn’t look like much, but once you step inside, you’ll see a restaurant area and then the bar area in the back. There’s also a second story for those packed Friday and Saturday nights. The bartenders are all experienced and know how to have a good time. Don’t be shy to pull up a stool and chat with them; they are half of the experience. The other half, of course, is the booze. There is a great selection of beers on tap, and they usually have more than one cider on tap. If you’re feeling more adventurous, tell the bartenders to surprise you with a drink, and they’ll give you one of their concoctions(that are usually pretty tasty). If you’ve got the munchies, don’t hesitate to order some fries or other food to snack on if the kitchen is still open. I hear their shepherd’s pie is to die for!

Surprisingly interesting bar in the Richmond area Before walking in, the place looked pretty small from the outside – I didn’t expect anything other than a typical neighborhood bar. Turns out, when you walk in, it’s a large 2-story establishment, with lots of customers, energetic background music, and bartenders who look like they have been working there for years and knows a lot of the local customers. The service is professional, and there are pool tables and darts on the 2nd floor. The customers are usually large groups of family or coworkers who go there to chat and hang out. Definitely one of the more interesting bars I’ve seen in SF, with a nice group vibe. Would recommend stopping by.

Bitter End is such a nice bar to hang out at, you feel like you are in England or Ireland. They have a great selection of beer on tap. I love Clement Street for all the great Asian restaurants, so I make a point to stop at Bitter End for a beer. Friendly Bartenders, just a nice SF spot. Great neighborhood.

If you’ve lived in SF long enough, hopefully you know this is THE place for trivia within the city’s limits. It’s like the Michigan Stadium of Irish bars as they seem to pack 100,000 enthusiasts in there every Tuesday night without overwhelming you. It’s quite remarkable. As for the bar itself — it’s your standard pub grub fare with everything you’d expect from a local’s bar and the drinks are sufficiently inexpensive. If you’re lucky enough to score a parking spot just outside the bar on Clement — even better. If you fancy yourself a trivia buff, you really need to make this a regular stop.

This place is wonderful! Just a terrific place to hang and drink great beverages while feeling you are tucked away in the English countryside. Try the chicken breast burger. Unexpectedly delicious. They put avocado and bacon and cheese on it. I always get this. The bartenders here are are awesome. They work so hard. It’s usually just them running around and tending bar and shuttling food from the kitchen. They handle it well.
