Great bar, great owners. Can get a little rowdy after 10 at night, especially for a guy like me who is whiter than a vanilla shake, but don’t act up and you will have no problem. The food is fantastic, but I am unable to figure out when they serve it, so it’s hit or miss. The drinks are pricey, but they give a really solid pour, so it evens out. Good crowd for sports watching, but the TVs are not the best. Always a good party atmosphere and a good time on the weekends.

Great music, fun atmosphere, and the people love to talk and have a good time. Explore San Francisco, when you do, stop by this place and have a nice drink!

Came upon this place on a Sunday morning before a Niner game. First person I met at the bar was Theresa, the owner. Within 5 minutes we were family and I am a honky. The place was full of people of mixed heritage, mostly African-American and EVERYONE was great. Hospitable, friendly and truly interesting. Fabulous bartender and the place was celebrating it’s 30th Anniversary with a large free buffet for everyone. Came back after the game and the crowd had grown 200% but all of the people were still warm, friendly and having one helluva good time. I enjoyed this place so much, I wish I had found it 20 years ago. We are going back next Sunday and every other time we are in the neighborhood. As a New Yorker this place reminds me of those old New York neighborhood bars of long ago. You will really enjoy going here and you’ll have a lot of fun. If Theresa isn’t your best buddy before you leave, you are not circulating and meeting the great folk who inhabit this bar and this part of San Francisco.

Nice place to find a little R&R on a Friday! Lit with modern touches, not much on the menu, but if Fried Chicken & Fish with Fries is what you have I love it, just have more then one bottle of my favorite hot sauce.

The hospitality of the folks here is pretty amazing. The reference by Amoura B. «I will drink when I’m READY. I’m doing YOU a favor by posting up in a „club“ full of the geriatric set. So, rather than the $ 40+ that she’d have made between the two of us, she made all of $ 8 for the two sodas apiece we ordered… was it worth it, chica?! lol» Remember you were sitting in a chair for almost 45 minutes and only bought 2 sodas for a whopping $ 8.00. So where and when was that additional $ 32.00 going to come from? If you sat at a table at Yoshi’s or any other club and only spent $ 8 in 45 minutes, you bet your !@# that a waitress or waiter was going to go after you to buy more drinks. The owner and wait staff have a job to do and they are there to make money, not run a waiting room. The music on the jukebox is pretty good, something for everyone. A lot of the music is geared to the R&B/Soul listener, as this is the Bayview district you would expect that. The wait staff and bartender are helpful and efficient and the bartender will also sometimes do double duty filling in as cook too. The food is very good and very reasonably priced.

The location is not the greatest, but the food and service are great!!! One of the better Black Owned and run establishments in SF. It’s no telling who you might see it there Mayor, Super Star, or Street Guy they really service the community as a whole.

I love this place for the people who go there. Warm homey vibe from a mixed aged crowd that leans to the older side. A place where a conversation about music might lead to mentions of Bobby Blue Bland and Jimmy Reed. Theresa the owner is a beautiful human being. And the gumbo is to die for.

I’m rating the club aspect only… So, my friend & I left happy hour at Chevy’s & went looking for a lil sum’in to get into for the remainder of the evening; we decided to come hang out in the ‘hood. Having just consumed 3 margaritas apiece, we were pacing ourselves for the rest of the evening(it was only around 9ish at the time); a woman named Teresa(whom we later found out is the alleged owner; haven’t confirmed that yet) invited us to sit down at her table. We hadn’t even made ourselves comfortable before the waiter came running, asking if we wanted anything to drink; we replied not yet. About 5 minutes later, he’s back asking the same question; again, we replied we’d let him know when we were ready. At this point, it’s about 9:45. The television was on espn; a story about Tiger Woods came on & we were conversing about how the hos involved had a whole lot of nerve expecting an apology for anything, when ‘Teresa’ interrupts with«You’re going to need to buy something to drink; I have plenty of customers that would love to have those chairs & you can’t sit there not buying anything.» I had to catch myself from giving her a ghetto hospitality lesson… WHAT?! Are you serious?! Can it be 10 pm before you’re telling me what I have to buy? Mind you, there’s nothing posted about drink minimums & it’s not my problem you’re having a slow night… I will drink when I’m READY. I’m doing YOU a favor by posting up in a «club» full of the geriatric set. So, rather than the $ 40+ that she’d have made between the two of us, she made all of $ 8 for the two sodas apiece we ordered… was it worth it, chica?! lol

I think — if I understood it right from the owner last night — that they serve lunch(gumbo included). If so, it looks like it’s worth a trip, given the heavy patronage at night(not for dinner, but for drinks and dancing). It’s a nice space, with a well-stocked bar, and the music was smoking! I will say that when you meet the owner of a bar at 1 a.m. at another bar, and she suggests you drop by her place, it will increase the fun factor of your evening, but perhaps decrease the fun factor of the next morning(given our arrival back home at, oh, 3 a.m. at the earliest). It was a very New York evening last night, complete with the NY wake-up-the-next-day-and-the-day-is-practicallly-gone feeling. At the time, I was like, «this is the best night ever!» Today? Oh, perhaps a slight tinge of remorse. But it was fun. As was the Montel Carlo.
