This is a small and a tad run down Chinese/Vietnamese Café. It is fast convenient and very basic. I only come here if I am working in the area and want a Vietnamese ice coffee and the spring rolls. Full disclosure I haven’t tried anything else on the menu. The owner is nice and cordial and I don’t mind supporting a small family business.

It’s very affordable. More importantly the foods taste good! 4 of us ordered 36 dollars worth. We ordered BLT, Club, and chicken banh mi sandwiches. Shrimp rolls are good and cheap! They were all very tasty and under 5 dollars as I remember! The salad was okay, the dressing they recommended(plum?) was a little weird.

On the one hand, if compare Uni’s Deli against the pretty abysmal food options in and around San Francisco General Hospital, Uni’s starts to look pretty good(as does packing your own lunch from home). It’s cheap, and there are plenty of options, including rice dishes, spring rolls, and banh mi. But if you are to grade Uni’s Deli against the many different food(particularly Vietnamese food) options in the city and Bay Area, Uni’s Deli is unfortunately quiet mediocre. — For $ 4.50, you can get three shrimp fresh spring rolls. It’s a solid deal, but the rolls are lacking the typical complement of herbs that you would see in most spring rolls. — The banh mi comes in this toasted hoagie bread, not French baguette bread, which is a travesty(indeed the origins of the banh mi can be traced to the French colonial influence on Vietnam). It just does not taste right on a hoagie, even if the ingredients inside the sandwich are decent.

Ok lunch spot if you are working or waiting for someone at sfgh, don’t expect anything great, but its ok and you will be supporting local. Not too pricey either and friendly service.

Uni’s a corner spot selling vietnamese & chinese food, smoothies, milk teas. eats: teriyaki beef banh mi(4) –beef tasted funny, not fresh –baquette doughy not crunchy 2 stars crumbs: –shoulda gone with the shrimp rolls(4.5) –friendly service, just sitting by the window. –cash only

We wanted to support this local mom and pop shop so stopped by this place for a late lunch. The banh mi sandwiches were $ 4! The lady was very nice and made everything fresh. The BBQ pork and chicken sandwiches were solid — nothing to write home about but«gets the job done» as the bf says. The mild wasn’t spicy at all, so if you like any kind of spice, just step up and ask for the spicy.

I have to say — I think the lady behind the counter is super friendly and speedy but the banh mi is disappointing. They use hot dog buns for the bread instead of French rolls. And honestly it just doesn’t taste right… I haven’t tried other stuff they serve. I think if I pop in next time, I will be open to try other items but definitely not their banh mi sandwiches.

Not very good Vietnamese sandwiches. Nowhere close to being like Lee’s Sandwich. Wish there were better options in the Potrero area.

Microwaved vietnamese sandwiches!!! I think not. Threw my $ 5 sandwich straight in the garbage after taking 2 bites making sure the lady that made my sandwich seen what I had done to the thing they called a sandwich.

Sweet, friendly staff dishing up cheap lunches prepared under SRO hotel-like culinary conditions(two burner hot plate, toaster oven, and an out of sight basement kitchen that I shudder to think of). Avoid whatever the daily steam-table offerings are(for this go to Wok and Go 3 blocks away at 24th& Potrero) and go with one of their made-to-order vermicelli salads(they’re slow so if you can call in advance –(415) 642‑1189), phở ga, salad(shrimp) rolls, or in a pinch their banh mi. The latter aren’t very good but are the only ones in the neighborhood and are much more reasonably priced than a conventional sandwich from Deli 23 down the street. The pork or beef used in both the salads and banh mi actually remind me of the pork or beef served up by street vendors in Southeast Asia, NOT because of the flavor or prep method, but because it has this unrecognizable bits and chunks, well cooked with sauce quality that makes me fret«was that really beef or is the neighbor’s dog going to be bristling and growling at me this evening» — meow… Coworker threw a hissy fit about getting salad rolls with ants in them a couple of months ago, but as a convenient lunch place I’ve eaten a fair number without ever having encountered a single six-legged dietary supplement. Cheap and convenient if you’re in the area, but don’t make a special trip.

Nice place for a quick Vietnamese tofu sandwiches. Small bar area to sit, but no other seating. It’s really like a take-out liquor store. Across from SFGHER, so food is cheap and good. Their portions are on the smaller side, but that that keeps you smaller. Overall 3.5 stars would be a good fit. Nice family feel, easy parking, quick.

I came here for lunch one day and ordered the BBQ Chicken Vietnamese sandwich. What I enjoyed the most was how soft yet crunchy the bread was! When they ask you if you want spicy it means do you want a lot of sriracha sauce? The BBQ Chicken was a bit too salty for my taste, but I still enjoyed my sandwich. I left the deli with a Mango Peach Smoothie to curb the salty feeling in my mouth.

I feel sort of bad because the people there are just so darn nice! Too bad the sandwiches are not so great. Yeah, it’s only $ 3.50 but the meat was too salty and the sandwich did not taste at all like a vietnamese sandwich should. I asked for spicy but all I could taste was soy sauce. I tried the vietnamese coffee as well, which I think I enjoyed more than the sandwich. Good deal and alternative if you’re on a tight budget and sick of the cafeteria at the General but otherwise, I would not recommend this place!

I live a block away and I like coming here for some to-go lunch from time to time. I usually go for a tofu veggie sandwich and a «healthy drink» — cheap and tasty. Everyone who works here is nice too. The only catch is that they’re open only during the late morning and afternoon and not on Sundays. But if you’re in the area and need a quick, cheap, and tasty lunch, try this place.

Fellow Unilocaler Amy A. said it best: Damn tasty. Also damn friendly(multiple confirmations I didn’t want my tofu sandwich spicy) and damn cheap(less than $ 4). All around good. Damn good.

Uni’s makes a damned tasty Bahn Mi sammich and for $ 3.50 I really can’t find much to complain about. The ingredients are fresh and the sandwich is nice and spicy. I am not going to tell you that this sandwich is any kind of religious experience, but sometimes basic is just what I’m in the mood for. I like to run in and pick up a sandwich some days that I’m working from home. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. They’re a nice little neighborhood shop tucked down the back side of my neighborhood. I’m really glad they’re here.

I’m a sucker for Vietnamese sandwiches. While this isn’t the best V. sando in the city… it’s good for two blocks away from my house! It’s cheap, quick and hits the spot. The ladies are nice and it’s a great walk for the pooches too!!!

I don’t know why this place is getting such bad reviews. The customer service is really good and everyone in there is really friendly. The place is a bit small, but the food is decent for that area. I was visiting a friend at the hospital and wanted better food than hospital cafeteria food. I went across the street for something walking distance, and there was a very limited choice. We endeed up checking out this place and ordered the following: Spring rolls(average) Grilled pork vietnamese sandwich(tasty, different though than the normal style, less crunchy from the toast — they preheat the buns) Grilled chicken vietnamese sandwich(meat wasn’t dry and it was very neat to eat — same applies to the above sandwich) Thai Iced Tea(a bit watered down, make sure you pick the back ones, so the ice hasn’t melted) Vietnamese Iced Coffeed(good) I am giving this place a 5 star because of customer service, speed, convienience and cleanliness. It’s a mom and pop shop! Have to support!

«Any port in a storm» is the advice my boss gave me the other day at work, coincidentally right before I ran across the street to grab a banh mi at Uni’s during work. It’s a typical hole-in-the-wall greasy Chinese food place that serves freshly-put-together Vietnamese sandwiches and the classic steam-heated bins of Asian specialties like chow mein, various chicken and veggie concoctions and rice. The sandwich is $ 4, a fair-ish price in today’s world, but I found it to be soggy and salty. The best part about it was the suboptimally-pickled carrot/daikon mixture. On another visit I had a combo platter with chow mein(greasy and stingy on the non-noodle ingredients) and chicken with green beens(green beans were good and crispy but where was the chicken?) that was overall average but cheap. It’s across the street from work in a 3-block area otherwise devoid of any food, let alone good food, so I’ll go back I’m sure. When your nearest competitor is the county hospital cafeteria, it’s «any port in a storm.»
