Was a great place to eat while it lasted. It’s closed now and reopened as a Sungari Dumpling House.

Discovered this place yesterday just so happen driving by looking for something different to eat. Came in and was greeted nicely. It’s not like your 5star restaurant doing experience, but that’s not what I was looking for. I wanted something good for cheap. And I found it. The food was great, not to greasy at all. Good food. Good price. Plenty of parking. I’ll be here more often.

In a way I kind of feel bad for this business because it seems whenever I pass by the restaurant is almost always completely empty, and the staff are sitting inside looking completely bored. That prompted me to make a return visit one recent night. I had eaten here once before shortly after the restaurant had opened its doors back in October 2013, and even though I wasn’t Unilocaling much at the time I did take a photo of my food that afternoon. True, some habits are hard to break. Thinking of how best to describe this restaurant I came up with this. It’s like shopping mall food court Chinese food in the comfort of your very own neighborhood. The food is inexpensive. The portions are huge and the staff are very friendly. It’s not necessarily a quiet place to eat at night however as I noticed the loud music from the Hispanic bar nice door bleeds directly into the restaurant as if there were no walls there to serve as a buffer. It’s definitely not an ideal location for a restaurant. There’s about 20 items on the menu, and the idea is pretty basic. You pick a protein or a combination of proteins. You pick steamed rice, chow mein noodles or both and it all arrives hot and tasty from the wok in a matter of minutes on a plate with a vegetable stir-fry usually made up of carrots, cabbage, broccoli and zucchini. On my initial visit I had the Chicken and Shrimp( ) with steamed rice and chow mein. The chicken was thigh meat which suits me fine but the shrimp were the little precooked ones found in supermarket freezers and definitely not my favorite type of shrimp. It filled me up, and if I recall correctly I couldn’t finish the rice or the noodles because there was so much of it. On my return visit I selected the BBQ Combo( ) thinking of how much I love Hawaiian style rice plates except I’d be having noodles instead of the yucky too-much-mayonnaise mac salads that Hawaiian lunch plates often come with, and it was exactly what I expected with several pieces of grilled chicken thigh meat, some thin slices of marinated teriyaki beef and a few pieces of surprisingly tender marinated beef short rib. The chicken was slightly burnt but not enough to dry out the meat, and as was the case the first time around I couldn’t finish all the rice and noodles that arrived on the plate. So my bottom line on Yummy Hut is this: 3.5 stars and better to eat in for lunch rather than dinner unless you happen to like loud vocals ripping through your eardrums.

Good food, cheap price. Not for vegans though.

The service and people was very good and friendly. I ordered the chicken and shrimp which I enjoyed… The flavor was good. Also they serve a lot. I was surprised I was able to finish. I will be back to try the other dishes next time

great food and service, but should i say something about the lady who might work there steal from the tip jar? it was kinda fishy but wasn’t 100% sure(thats why I didn’t say anything). She used there menu to cover the jar and snatched a few bucks then went about her business. i probably wont eat here again, i mean how could I when the employees are stealing from each other.

This place opened up not too long ago and I was very hesitant to try because I had my routine Chef Hunan to go to when I was craving for my Chinese food. One day my coworkers and I said why not! The first time I tried it I got the happy hour chicken and chow mein. For $ 4.50, that plate was amazing. After tasting their chicken which was cooked to almost complete perfection. I decided to pony up more cash and get the regular sized plates. Oh how great of an idea was that!!! I tried the Chicken and Shrimp then their Spicy Pork which did not let me down since. This place did not however replace Chef Hunan in my heart cause they cook totally different styles of food. But Yummy Hut gets priority.

Last month(2 – 3 weeks ago) Yummy Hut replaced Wei’s Hunan. Good news for area residents because in my opinion, Wei had the worst Chinese food in this neighborhood(my review of Wei explains those details). Even dingy hole-in-the-wall Chopsticks has a better cook than Wei. Yummy Hut’s menu choices are limited, just 20 combo items($ 4.50-$ 8.99, includes 3 soups). Everything is cooked to order, but it’s Panda-Express-style food. Chow mein and white rice + protein(chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, chicken wings, kalbi, salmon) + teriyaki-type sauce + side of veggies. The kitchen is small, so the short menu makes sense(previous owners with large menus went out of business), and prices are reasonable(not as cheap as Chopsticks). Drinks: sodas, water for $ 1, and Snapple for $ 1.50. The place is clean, and service is friendly. I was grocery shopping on Mission street when I found this place, so I bought their happy hour special(3−5pm) for $ 4.50 — chicken chow mein and soda. The food is okay, tastes good(like Panda Express). The HH special is not really a bargain(smaller portion). I saw 2 customers dining inside who ordered regularly priced combos, were served a mountain of food. In contrast my Chinese takeout box was half the size, compared to another takeout order in a clear plastic container. They also do catering, 5 ala carte foods sold in party trays($ 18.99-$ 39.99). Nice option for family parties and potlucks. Cash only. Hours: daily 11am-9pm
