Love this place! Such friendly and polite staff, clean facility and overall welcoming. As for the sushi — fresh, presentable and absolutely delicious. Hard to pick my favorite roll! It’s now a tradition for my boyfriend and I to get there at 5 on the dot on Saturdays — the place fills up quickly for a reason.

One of the best sushi places in South San Jose. Great options, my favorite is the Oh yeah roll! Not cheap for a full meal but well worth it.

I have to go back just for the sushi. You can really tell that their ingredients are good quality. Philadelphia roll is what we got today and it was not like any other Philadelphia roll we’ve ever had ! Yummmmmmm we will be back next week lol

Almaden Sushi is hands down the best sushi in the Almaden area! From traditional rolls to special rolls there is not a bad choice on the menu! Their Miso soup is to die for and their eel sauce is devine! The fish is always fresh, and the veggies always crisp! We like to visit mid week for dinner. Weekends tend to be busy, and the wait could be 20+ minutes at times. Lunch specials during the week are also great! I would highly recommend Almaden Sushi to anyone looking for fresh fish sushi rolls!

Despite this place only being a few minutes drive from my house, I’ve only been here twice. Their food is good, but nothing special. I have nothing against it, except maybe their salad dressing — not a huge fan. The reason why I don’t come here is because I consider it overpriced. Some of their rolls are retty much double the price of some of my favorite sushi restaurants. Their lunch specials are more affordable, but they are equivalent to the price of dinner at another restaurant. As a result, I won’t be coming here often unless I’m willing to pay for the convenience.

I went to their website to look at the menu. For the special rolls there was a picture and description but didn’t say how many pieces it included. I assumed 6. I was excited because this place had good reviews and it was only $ 8.95 for a special roll! ordered take out over the phone. She asked for my number first and then my name. I ordered the Salmon Nigri and Super Dynomite. She told me 15 minutes. I might have came in a few minutes early and it was ready. The lady ringing me up was very friendly and kept a convo going while we were waiting for my card to go through. This surprised me but in a good way. Instead of Salmon Nigri she rung me up for Salmon Sake. I’m new to this sushi thing, so idk the difference. I get home super excited to eat. I open up the boxes. The salmon looked beautiful, nice fat strips, and the salmon pieces were good sized. The roll on the other hand was a bit small, only 5 pieces. They were both very good. The salmon tasted fresh and creamy. The dynomite roll was flavorful as well, I was hoping for a larger roll but it got the job done. Next time I might get a side of rice since the rolls are small. I thought this place was going to be cheap but it’s average priced based on the amount given and from this visit the sushi was good quality. I give it a 4.5!

Our Dragon roll was very good. They start you out with a fresh green salad that was crispy and with a good dressing. I ordered soup; a korean kim chee soup that was flavorful, filling and not too spicy hot. +++ Customer service: a bit slow Décor: modern. Could be a first date place or bring your family — plenty of room. Bathrooms: clean

Good spot relative to the area. It’s a great spot to go to on a weeknight or to order take out. Clean, fresh, quick service, and moderately priced. Portions are above average. I have tried their sashimi, tempura, udon, terriyaki beef/chicken, and rolls – they’re all good. Again, really solid food but not particularly special.

Got an order of X-File roll and soft shell crab to go for $ 23. Unilocal reviews are spot on. The food is great and portions are small. Still worth it though, because Almaden/Blossom Hill valley don’t have too many quality sushi places.

I’ve been going back here religiously for about 4 times now and I don’t usually revisit restaurants unless they’ve left a good impact on my meal. So with that being said, I would recommend this restaurant to people who are looking for authentic and quality Japanese cuisine. Their sashimi is always fresh.

The portions here were tiny! I got the ~$ 15 Tiger Eye Roll. Icame wit h 8 mini pieces of sushi. Flavor was decent. Fish was fresh. I enjoyed the butter fish. My dad ordered a bento box and we both left still hungry.

It looks like a small restaurant from the outside but it pretty spacious and has a nice atmosphere. It’s more of a family dinner or a date place. I love it! As for the food, my friends and I got sashimi platter, giant roll and X-file rolls. Giant roll was really good and the fish was really fresh. I come here every now and then. I think it’s one of he best sushi restaurant in south San Jose!

Great service and ambience inside of the restaurant. I was hesitant to go to this restaurant since it looks a bit sketchy on the outside. After hearing good reviews from fellow Almaden friends, I decided to give it a go. It’s a little pricier, but the interior is really nice and modern. Their food was presented well and their utensils and plates are better quality than your average Japanese restaurant. Friendly waiters and didn’t have to wait long for our food to arrive!

BLUF: Quick and convenient Japanese restaurant. I got the Lunch Bento Special: Chicken Teriyaki, Mixed Sashimi(4 pcs), a salad, rice and miso soup which was all for nothing more than $ 11. They do close from 2−5PM in between lunch and dinner so be wary and respectfully of that. Almaden Sushi is located right next to the Safeway and Starbucks in Almaden Plaza. The restaurant is clean and can actually sit more people than it looks like it can from the outside. I went with a party of five at 1:30PM without a reservation and was still promptly seated. The main courses of the bento meal I got were highly satisfying. The chicken teriyaki was moist and sweet and the tuna/salmon sashimi pieces were quite fresh. For the price, it was nothing short of what I expected. The servers were quite personable and friendly while not being too overbearing. While not my first choice restaurant for a sushi binge or a date night(San Jose offers more than its fair share of sources), it is an excellent place for a quick lunch!

I’m really happy with this sushi spot! It’s convenient for me as I live within walking distance. The sushi is fresh and their nigiri cuts are large. The seaweed salad is delicious and I also really enjoyed the miso soup. We’ve tried several rolls and and really enjoyed them all. My only critique is that they can be a bit to heavy with the tempura topping on some of the rolls, which I could do without… But other than that we will be regulars here :) I should also add the the service has been good for us too!

The food here is great 5 stars!!!, this rating is more on the service side. I was not aware they close restaurant at 2pm, arrived at the check in desk at 2:03pm and they did not even try to hear me out nor accommodate me, they strictly said«no you can not come in we close at 2pm». I am big on customer service, and that is not a sign that they are not customer service driving.

Good fresh sushi, and very pleasant servers. We came at lunchtime, and it gets quite busy. The California roll and the short ribs were my favorite. Give it a try! It’s in a shopping center with a Safeway.

Food is pretty good. I had the Crunchy Red Dragon Roll. It was a bit small for the price, but very good. Saturday night and it was crowded. The kitchen was slow and erratic. Two in our party were finished and the plates cleared before another order came. Shouldn’t take sooooo long for sushi to arrive, I think. I’ll be back when they’re not so busy. Maybe they’ll get a fourth star if the service is better.

We arrived a little before six on a recent Friday evening. Took forever to get seated, as we were a party of three. So many parties of two went ahead of us. It was as if we were spectators at a parade for parties of two. After we were sat down, I could see the line extend almost to the doorway, and yet there were empty tables. Something was not running efficiently! Then it took forever for our menus to arrive. Then it took forever for our server to arrive. Salads and miso soup came quickly, saving the day. Teriyaki chicken was blah. I could have made that at home by dumping a bottle of TJ Soyaki on top on chicken. Underwhelming. Our meals came out sporadically. The combo dinner portions arrived 20 minutes apart. Dishes piled up as we finished; nothing was cleared. It took forever to get our bill. I think we were there two hours. My bill at Almaden Sushi was probably 30 percent higher than Yuki Sushi(Willow Glen location only — my fave) for far, far less. I bet Almaden Sushi survives due to location and convenience.

They have a great selection of sushi which I appreciate. I love their crunch red dragon roll. It I in a great spot also very close to my house. It can be a little more expensive than lots of places, but I would rather pay more for high quality sushi than less money to lower quality.
