We frequent this place for the ca nuong — call in to pre-order cause it does take them a bit to get it made — but it’s good. THis isn’t the prettiest of restaurants but, if you can stand a lil grime and don’t mind lack of ambience then you’ll enjoy some yummy fish rolls. Their hours are a somewhat funky, they seem to close early compared to some of the nearby restaurants. No worries either way cause there are plenty of places in the near vicinity. Not a huge fan of all of the items included in the bo 7 mon but they’ll let you swap out items for other ones. Bo la lot is one of our favs, especially good to wrap up in veggies. drooool. Parking is in the huge lot in Lion Plaza. Restaurant is located all the way in the back on the far side of the court yard, next to the food court.

Bo 7 Mon fo days! This is the only place I’ve ever had it at, however, everyone I know raves about Anh Hong and apparently it’s the best in SJ? Food: Not a big beef fan, but I can eat this stuff because the beef is either very thinly sliced or the pieces are tiny. We also order the fish, which is okay, but not the freshest imo. I love rolling my own spring rolls, because I can control the amount of veggies(lots) and meat(not a lot) I want in my roll. I actually use about 2 pieces of rice paper and then stop and just use lettuce, you will be able to eat a lot more and you don’t have to worry about the unnecessary rice paper calories. Rolls are refreshing and delicious, especially when dipped in the sauce. Nothing about this meal is heavy, so you don’t feel disgusting afterward. Service: Mediocre, but that’s okay. I don’t expect much. Ambiance: Pretty spacious, but always super busy, especially on weekends. We always call ahead and let them know we’re coming, so we usually have a table and the food comes out quicker. Price: Bo 7 Mon is usually pricey, but you get a lot of meat, veggies, etc. Overall: Best place in SJ according to all my Viet people, but I’ve never had it anywhere else, just sayin’. Prepare to use your hands a lot and to cook your own meat! It’s a fun experience.

Listen to what everyone else said! This place has the best Bo 7 Mon(seven beef course) in San Jose and in the area. It’s not a typical American course meal but very unique. Mostly hands on where you cook your own meat in a hot pot and wrap your own rolls. They also include a beef porridge and salad. Just come try it for yourself!

The wait was like forever to get order and then another long wait for the food. Waiters wasn’t friendly at all and everything is old and dirty. Food is ok though.

My parents decided to treat out my family to dinner since my uncle & aunt were visiting us in California. I personally go to the Anh Hong in Milpitas but this location was closer to my relatives. The place hasn’t changed in appearance which is pretty disappointing; it looks very outdated & dirty. I decided to put that aside and hope its like a whole in the wall joint & the food would be amazing. We made a reservation over the phone for 15 people and they easily sat us all together. We ended up doing the beef courses for everyone, add 2 baked catfish, 3 seafood hotpot, some wine and water for the table. My mom is a very patient woman and if she’s frustrated with the service, something is definitely wrong. There were not enough servers to take care of the entire dining room; we were having things brought to the table at different times which resulted in our party waiting out of respect for each other until we could all eat. Water wasn’t even brought to the table until we asked again, and we didn’t receive it until we received the platter of assorted cooked beef. The metal stoves that were used for the beef fondue and hot pot were old, dirty & overall distracting, you’d think they’d keep up with the appearance of the restaurant to look well kept to their customers. Our least favorite dish was the beef rice porridge/congee at the end, it wasn’t very flavorful and seemed sloppy in terms of how it was cooked & presented. The beef salad, beef fondue, the plate of beef & baked catfish were average; good but nothing that stuck out. On the plus side the veggies we were given was fresh and cleaned thoroughly, no complains from any of our guest. The hotpot broth was on the sweeter side, the seafood on the platter was cut very thin and laid out to look like a big portion which it was on the skimpy side but the cabbage was an abundance. Overall everyone was well fed which was good for us. But the downfalls that evening would’ve been easily eliminated at the Milpitas location. If you’re looking for this restaurant, it is not visible from the street. It’s inside the plaza next to the dance studio/food court.

A good place to have family dinner. My family comes here quite often. The taste of the 7 courses of beef and their signature sauce are pretty consistent. They do charge more for extra vegetable and sauce if you ask for more. Running down place but has been proven to me that the food was clean. My tummy is very sensitive but I have not had any«incidence» for years. Just don’t use their restroom. Service, again, Asian place, understaff, slow service.

Omg so full! Always come here for a good seven course beef~ Servers are really nice. The first thing that usually comes out is the cold beef salad, but for some reason the bowl of water and rice paper came out first(um, I think the only thing wrong with the night was that the bowls waiting at the table were dirty and I’m 99.99% sure they gave us rice paper from before customers). After that came the regular thin beef and then 4 other types of REALLY flavorful beef — yum! The last course of beef was porridge, which is a nice warm end to the meal. The food was super good, and I was SUPER hungry. Definitely enjoyed my meal!

I don’t rely much on Unilocal!Bc sometimes reviews are more exaggerated. But I’ve been coming here since I was in diapers. And til this day Anh hong is still one of my favorite places. It’s like a hole in the wall Bc yes, it may be dirty because they haven’t updated much of their furnitures but the food is SO good!

Get the 7 course beef, it is really tasty, refreshing, and a lot of food. The beef meatloaf is my favorite. I like how you can make your own spring roll, and ask for more veggies if needed. And don’t forget, save some room for the last course, which is the beef congee… I don’t know what they put in their congee but its packed with tons of delicious flavor. The best beef congee I have ever had hands down! Only downside is the long lines, but it goes by really quick. The service is quick and attentive. The interior is rather bland and old, need some updates, but no one comes here for a fancy sit down. its all about the food! Parking in this plaza is a nightmare, especially during peak hours.

Very delicious and great service. Kids are having a good time and they asked us to take them back again. Price are reasonable and great taste of the shrimp and pork noodle, beef paper rice wrap is good as well. Will come back again next time n

I was really looking forward to trying 7COURSEBEEF since ive never had it. My girl and i initially made plans to hit up the Anh Hong location in milpitas but since we were in the area, we opted to come here. Located in Lion Plaza, I’ve passed this place a few times and just never cared to stop in or even look at their menu. Out side is dingy looking and it doesn’t exactly get any better when you come inside. We arrive to a pretty empty house, maybe two or three tables were being occupied. No one came out to seat us so we took it upon ourselves to pick a table. The server came out and was absolutely NOHELP whatsoever. Every dish we asked him about was«very goot, very goot». Not that im expecting him to tell me it was bad. but at least give us some details about how to expect the dish to come out! We each ordered the 7 Course beef meal and added on the rare beef salad(Bo Tai Chanh). The man quickly walks away and we are stuck flagging him down for some water. Food comes out and there is an abundance of it. Delicious yes but we were confused as to which dishes were the rare beef salad and the regular beef salad dish. We literally thought he brought us out the same dish and when we asked out server about it, he just brushed us off! I’ll be trying 7 Course Beef again– just not at this place. UnLess you are into eating off of dirty plates/utensils and you enjoy drinking water with backwashed food… Then this place is NOT the spot for you.

This is my Mom and I go-to spot. We love 7 course beef! We came here for dinner after measuring our Vietnamese tradition dresses for the Chinese New Year right across from Anh Hong. This restaurant has been around for quite a long time and we still enjoy the savoring of their food. Service was horrible, but other than that, food was GREAT! =)

Been going here since a kid! They have been around for a very long time; over 10 years at the least. This proves how consistent and GOOD their food is. Great for families. Every time I come here, my family always order the 7 course beef. Its a cook it your own style ; Similar to hot pot food but with spring rolls instead. At the end, they give you a small wash cloth to clean your hands Good service. Forever will come back!

The seven courses of beef is worth the price, at least once. It’s a lot of fun to wrap the different kinds of beef with the various fresh herbs and veggies they provide you. The porridge at the end is good comfort food, though you’ll likely be super full at that point of the meal. Even though the seven courses of beef is a lot of food, Vietnamese food is great at highlighting fresh, bright flavors without feeling overly greasy or heavy. It’s a bit like a tasting menu but obviously neither stuffy and elitist nor $ 200.

Truly a unique and interactive and cultural dining experience. That is the 7 Course Beef($ 20/person) meal. So wash your hands and bring a group and an appetite and enjoy the ride. Upon ordering, the courses come out fast and often together, so unless it is explained to you, it can get confusing/overwhelming. Tip: It doesn’t come out one course at a time like say a tasting menu. I think more accurately it is more of «7 ways to utilize beef» and there are flavors and methods here, that I simply have never tasted, but was pleasantly surprised. Another tip: Your utensils will be a pair of chopsticks and more importantly, your hands. Within 2 minutes of ordering, a slew of items start appearing. –A Julienned Beef and Vegetable Salad with a light sweet vinegar dressing. –A plate of raw vegetables(bean sprouts, shredded carrot, mint and basil leaves, cucs) –A plate of dried rice paper wrappers(looks like sheets of plastic when dry) –A bowl of warm water(to hydrate said rice paper wrapper which will then get soft and translucent after dipping in water for several seconds) –A plate of very thinly sliced raw beef(maybe fillet or sirloin) –A little hot pot with broth and a live flame underneath.(To dip and cook sliced raw beef) –A little ramekin of a fish sauce based dipping sauce. This first wave of plates and pots are only«2» courses, the«beef salad» and the«carpaccio». All can be rolled in the wrappers along with the assortment of veggies and fish sauce. The salad is especially tasty with great balances of sweet, tart and salty and the textures are all over the place as well. The carpaccio is great in that it can be cooked to desired temperature and I dip it in the hot pot for literally about 4 seconds so it stays super juicy. Again this is wrapped as a roll. When the table clears a bit, they will clear things out and bring more wrappers and veggies if needed. Then they bring a massive platter which contains the other«4» courses. All are cooked and this can be rolled as well in the wrappers or just simply eaten with chopsticks. -«Meatball» more like a steamed meatloaf with finely chopped woodear mushroom, vermicelli noodle and mild seasonings. You kind of break this up like a pâté cuz it is molded into a half ball when it arrives. –2 Grilled beef sausages, with slightly differing variations. One wrapped in lot leaf(which is great) and the other with peanuts in it. Both charred nicely and the beef is very flavorful and juicy. Great with the accompanying crunchy vegetables. — A rolled beef«sausage» with lemongrass and peanuts. Again nice char flavor with a different texture than the ground meat version. They finish with a beef congee(rice porridge) which twice I liked but one time seemed a little off(like they were trying to rid of some iffy product). But usually when this arrives I am so stuffed that I usually just stare at it. I love taking newbies here but I have to have a sense that they are adventurous in their dining nature. If I get that, then we have ourselves an evening. A satisfying, delicious, and healthful evening. Ps. This is a great meal for those that are carb conscious. Your Welcome. ;)

7COURSESOFBEEF!!! :) This is the OG7 courses of beef location! I wish I could say that I’ve tried other things at Anh Hong, but then I would be lying. I go here strictly for the 7 courses of beer. This place is just a childhood staple. I remember roaming Lion Plaza as a child and either eating here or the food court of deliciousness… followed by desserts and che galore. I’m sure this place is going to be around for me to take my children to in the future.

We came here for a family dinner and we got the fried catfish and the 7 different ways to cook beef. We always come here since my mom loves eating here. I grew up eating here. It’s always so packed in here no matter what time of day you come. If you like roiling up your food in a spring roll and dipping in fish sauce, this is the place to go.

I ended up here after failing to find Quan Hue( ) or even the food court that it’s in! Being a guy, I don’t ask for directional help so called it quits and entered Anh Hong to continue my Banh Xeo quest. Ordered Bi Cuon($ 5.50?), Banh Xeo($ 8.50), and a beer which came with a glass of ice( ). Luckily the beer was chilled so I could skip the ice :) The three Bi Cuon came out with a sprig of cilantro( ) and some sauce fixin’s( ) which I used for both the Bi Cuon and Banh Xeo. The rolls were tasty and fresh with some mint and perilla inside along with some lettuce and the Bi(shredded pork & pork skin). They could have used more Bi( ), but I got an extra serving of vegetables with this. A promising plate of greenery came out pre-crêpe with lettuce, purple and green perilla, rau ram, cilantro, and mint( ). Rau ram is in the same soapy category as cilantro so unfortunately 2 of the herbs were throw-aways. The crêpe looked different than other versions with holes like you often see on pancakes from maybe a too thick batter( ). It was physically thicker than typical and cooked to almost a cracker like crunch and you can see in the picture where it shattered while being folded. Filling was mostly sprouts with small pan seared tail-on shrimp and somewhat tough pork( ). These were spread out a bit so you could get a bite with neither, if you weren’t careful( ). The sprouts were blanched or steamed, but still had some crunch. There were green onions & shallots in the crêpe and loose in the filling. Overall a so-so a rendition. Bi Cuon: 3.5 stars Banh Xeo: 2 stars Whole fried catfish(not my pic ) looked pretty popular. Next time I get lost, I might have to try it ;-) Oh, and turns out the Food Court is right next door to Anh Hong. I got confused by the dance studio sign(or whatever it was) above the doorway. DOH!

My buddy and I were rolling around San Jose and wanted to get something hot and delicious for dinner. We had tried to visit Anh Hong on a previous trip but had a hard time finding it, but we were determined this time. We still drove around a while before we figured out it was inside the outdoor mall, but were glad to finally find it. They’re known for their 7-course beef, but I was disappointed by the last time I had it elsewhere so I skipped it this time. I wasn’t feeling that well so I ordered their catfish rice porridge. For what it was, it seemed a tad overpriced(~$ 10) to me, but it was refreshing and made me feel better. The flavors were well balanced and the fish was fresh, but there wasn’t much of it to be found. The fried onions added nice texture, but I wish there was a little more of it. Overall though, it was exactly what I wanted on a cold night. Service was actually pretty attentive and the people working there were nice despite us coming in a little late. The food arrived fast and hot and we were pretty happy with our dishes. I’d be interested in trying their fried catfish dish next time I’m there, and I’ll have to come by with more friends next time.
