I love this place! The bun bo hue here is bomb! Most of the time some of these Vietnamese vendors don’t speak English so it’s very hard for me to understand what they are saying. That is the reason why I bring my BF to help translate or order for me. I’m not racist or anything but just wanted to put that out there since it is a Vietnamese community. Overall this place has the best bun bo hue and other places in this little food court are good at certain foods such as bân cân, or bun mâm. I love this place and would definitely drive from Hayward just to come and eat! stars! Really!

My husband and I tried two dishes here on a regular weekday, Banh Cuon & Canh Bun’. The owner kept repeating that he always served fresh food. He prepared the Banh Cuon by putting them on the plate, warm them up in the microwave then add the Banh’ Cong’(which he warm up in the small oven). The Banh’ Cong’ was very dry-no doubt it was few days old; and tasted a little sour like the old fried flour. I did not know for sure how old was the Canh Bun’ but I had a stomach pain when I just arrived home after that lunch. Never come back again and I wish the Public Health Department would have an inspection there someday!

This place is located in the food court at Lion Plaza… Grilled chicken with rice plate is delicious… too bad that’s NOT what i ordered but the shortrib and rice plate. Since it was the same price, i left it as it was already a 10 minute wait and didn’t want to wait again. Also, i doubt they would understand as either they don’t speak/understand english or conveniently pretend not to. As others have mentioned, no smile, no greeting and just a ‘yes??’ to order your food… and when its ready they ring the bell for pick up… menu is all in vietnamese except for a few pictures of their specials such as rice or bun dishes with a meat and eggroll. Additional egg roll $ 1 each… be prepared to bring some Purell and your own napkins/wipes as the guy cleaning doesn’t do a very good job wiping it down… and when he does its with the same cloth for all tables without rinsing… eeewwww!

The foods are OK but the service is really really bad… I haven’t seen any horrible attitude to customers like this place. You should know what kind of food you like before you come to this place. Thinking or change your last minute decison is their problems. They will treat you like sh… And better finish your foods, if you asked for container to go, they will be so mad at you. I never come back here any more because no any special food I like and the service is unbelievable.

********************* 1296 ********************** I rarely write a review with my first visit. With that said, I also understand that this is a food court, I don’t expect any kind of service at all from my people. However, for a quick snack before grocery shopping at Lion SuperMarket, we came in here. The whole food court was busy on a weekend. I was in line with about 3 people in front of me. I asked the cashier/owner, how much is the BANHCUON plate, without even answer, she used her finger, pointed at the menu with price list on the wall! Wow so much for customer service. A few minutes later she said: «You want it?» I handed her the money. She puts the BANHCUON to the microwave, a minute later, gave it to me, without any thank you her customer! Unbelievable. Later my mom came over to give her 25 cents for the to go box, asked if we could get a new NUOCMAM box to go, she didn’t freaking answer. She was rude, impolite, and impossible to talk too! She gave my mom just a lid, what the hell? We were willing to pay for the mixed fish sauce/NUOC MAM to go. The BANHCUON was chewy after the microwave, the CHA ham was stingy portion, compare to all the places in the food court. She looked as she was miserable and frustrated, I wonder how could customers ever come back here! She ruined my mom’s day… We feel sorry for her and her unbelievable disgusted service. Take your business else where, BANHCUONTAYHO is a much better choice and great service!

On a rare occasion, I crave Banh Cuon. My fiancé was in town and we were looking for places to eat. This place is semi-hard to find. It’s located into a food court, INSIDE of a strip mall. The foot court has about 5 – 6 other places that served various types of food. We ordered the Special Banh Cuon(Bac Cuon Dac Biet) and very tasty in my opinion! It surely kicked my banh cuon craving! For the price, I would expect a little more food. We had about 4 rolls(with meat), fried mung bean cake, meat roll, shrimp paste, along with veggies. It either really delicious or I was craving the fish sauce! Who knows! MY fiancé enjoyed it at well!

This place is in a food court with many other Vietnamese restaurants. I stopped by here when I was grocery shopping at Lion Supermarket and ordered the Banh Cuon Dac Biet. The Banh Cuon was pretty good, but I would have preferred a little more filling. The bean sprouts were not very fresh. Everything here was pretty standard, and I would probably go back if I were in Lion Plaza, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back.

I used to love getting a plate of banh cuon from here. Since I was finally visiting San Jose again, I wanted to get my fix. The woman offered my aunt and I the«dac biet /special», which means it comes with four rolls of banh cuon and a lot of extras on top. Sounded good so we ordered two plates. The banh cuon definitely was not worth the cost as it used to be. There wasn’t a lot of fillings inside(we got the meat filling) and the extra sides were just okay. Although she heated everything up for us in the microwaves at the front, the food was still pretty cold. Sad to say that I will have to find a different go-to banh cuon place the next time I visit SJ.

To get a discovery, sometimes, you have to really look! This place is located in a hidden back indoor mall; you will pass thru one mall to get here. I think it was the #9: the Phở Da Lat Style with two kinds of noodles, one phat sweet crab claw, one phat sweet tiger shrimp really make the Phở tastey. And the sweetness of the fresh crab/shrimp flavor the soup in a unique way. When you have fresh seafood, it has that sweet flavor you know? well, that you get here. Unlike many other Phở shops, this place uses fresh ingredients in their soup. it’s bang on. Two kinds of noodles are married in a rich broth, chock full of flavors and scents, it’s fragrant in a good way, and I enjoyed eating their Phở to the last drop. Comes with a side of fresh bean sprouts and sliced jalapeño peppers. $ 8.50 is about right for this kind of quality. Also, comes with tea. Made to order goodness. If you were in a sit down restaurant, this likely would be $ 10.50 Tip: this indoor mall is inside a mall; you have to pass thru the front mall, or go around the back side off of King Street. Its located on the east side of the mall, off street. Customer service: ok. Décor: mall type but low key quiet, lot’s of sun light. non smoking. Pleasant to eat here and walk around. Parking: ok

Worst banh cuon place in SJ. Other than the banh cuon everything was really dry… And the shrimp cake that came with my meal was stale. The shrimp was mushy when I bit into it. Such a waste of my 10 bucks… If you want to eat good banh cuon go to Bac Ninh! Or the one on center! That ones pretty good too.

Wow! I’ve been told about the great Vietnamese food in SJ, but haven’t ventured down much. Came here last week for lunch and tried the Bahn Cuon. Delicious and lots of food for my big appetite! Will definitely like to come back sometime to enjoy more and the rest of the food court :) Mmmm.

My family makes a stop at the Lion Plaza and Lion Supermarket whenever we’re in San Jose. The prices here are the typical prices you’ll find in Vietnamese restaurants. Because it’s a food court, the cleanliness of the place can be questioned. The day we went, the food court was really empty, it was just us and two other tables. I had the bún tht nng ch giò, it was decent for what it was.

I really enjoyed their Banh Cuon and Bem Nuong! $ 17 for both which seems kinda pricey but their portion size was huge. A lot of people were ordering their hu tieu so will definitely try that next time.

I arrived at 6:45 and found this food court closes ~7pm with some stalls already closed or starting to shut down. It looked like I grabbed the last plate of Banh Cuon. It was the one item that didn’t have a price on the picture and I got charged $ 10 though I see mention of $ 8.50. Not sure if prices have gone up or the lady just charged me more. She zapped the plate in the microwave and then piled on the sides. It was a big plate of food with only the ends of the banh cuon visible under everything else( ) The banh cuon had a good amount of ground pork and mushrooms( ) and my fears of the microwave were unfounded as the noodle rolls were warm and tender. The sides included — some cucumber & cilantro to make me feel like I was getting some veggies — Banh cong — mung bean fritter( ) which was kind of dry — Cha lua — about a dozen slices rectangular & semi-circular pieces. Darker and more flavorful than what I typically have gotten in Banh Mi. The semi-circular ones had whole peppercorns. They had stacks of these still in the banana leaves and mine were sliced to order. — Shrimp cracker thing — shell on. Cracker not crisp. End of the day? — Cha gio — egg roll. Room temp. Dense with OK flavor — Chao tom — shrimp paste on sugarcane( ). Nice and moist. Sugarcane fun to gnaw on :) The nuoc cham was good with a decent amount of chili mixed in. I had leftovers.

I decided to try this place out after hearing good things about it from my sister and friends! It’s located inside Lion Plaza’s food court. The food court isn’t grand and it’s actually pretty small, but the selection of Vietnamese food is good! I do not speak Vietnamese so it took me awhile to find this place but I was happy when I finally did! I like that they have numbered pictures for their menu! Makes it easier for non-Vietnamese customers to order food! Their specialty here is the banh cuon! It’s delicious, and they give you lots of «sides» with it! It is one of the best banh cuon I’ve had! Their rice plates and noodles plates here are also pretty good! Generous portion for the price!

My favorite Banh Cuon place since childhood. I am sad when they changed the owner but the quality of the food is still excellent. The only thing I do not like is their customer service but I can live with that. I usually get the combination Banh Cuon and get extra fried yam. The portion is huge that you could share with someone. I usually share with my mommio because I cannot finish the old thing by myself. Overall, good eat for only $ 8.00!

Came to satisfy my craving for banh cuon as I couldn’t find the banh cuon joint inside the Grand Century food court. Ever since Tay Ho closed, I’ve been struggling to find some good banh cuon. This joint’s banh cuon comes with everything for $ 8.50. Banh cuon, egg rolls, fried cake, fried potato, shrimp paste on sugar cane, lettuce, bean sprouts! Just like Tay Ho, the banh cuon was freshly microwaved-to-order. The banh cuon itself was very thin and didn’t contain a lot of meat inside. …it was lukewarm, just like the rest of the fried items… …it was interesting to see the owner all frazzled as the health inspector decided to do an inspection right after we sat down! Note: — CASH only(w/no receipt since they have no receipt paper) — 25 cents for to go container w/lid for fish sauce and plastic bag to carry the to-go containers! ;)
