Food was good at first but a spider was in my spoon when I scoop the soup from my bun Bo hue. Bad of all is when owner careless and say it’s normal bc sometime it’s might be a fly or ants died in it. How is a spider normal on something we eat. Especially I gave my 1 yr old baby noodle from it. I was nice enough to tell them quietly so other customer can’t hear but wow no words of sorry. I have to contact the health department to check there kitchen. Every place I eat I pay for the bowl even if there’s a bug in there. I don’t need them to waive but I need a word of sorry. Never been mad like this at a restaurant, and this is my first bad review. I own a bussiness too and I know how important it is to keep clean especially food.

i came here to eat lunch after my brother’s ceremony and the restaurant was pretty packed but we were able to get a table pretty quick. our server seemed really confused when we were telling him which number we wanted. i guess it’s because their menus have duplicate numbers(seriously, why would a restaurant do that?) it didn’t help that our server barely spoke english, so there was a language barrier when we were trying to talk to him in english. it probably took our server 5 minutes to place orders for a party of 6. our server kept bringing out the wrong orders for us! at this moment, i knew we had chose the wrong restaurant to eat for lunch. everyone in my table, except for me received their orders 20 minutes later. I ordered the catfish vermicelli and it took 30 minutes to come out. it should not take them 30 minutes to make vermicelli! all you have to do is stick all the ingredients in a bowl. it really doesn’t need to be presentable. finally, i received my order and my vermicelli wasn’t in a bowl. instead, my vermicelli was on a plate with lettuce, noodles, and a cracker. my catfish was on a separate plate. this is my first time seeing vermicelli served on a plate… not going to lie, but i had a really difficult time eating this«vermicelli» plate. i was expecting to use my hands to eat with this. #firstworldproblems. at least the catfish was really good. notes: do not order the vermicelli unless you don’t mind making DIY rolls with your vermicelli. the service here is terrible. they need to make sure their employees can understand the english names of the orders on the menu. the food takes forever to be served. i would just avoid this restaurant. they are plenty of authentic vietnamese restaurants in SJ.

Cash Only! They are very popular for their Bun Bo Hue! I came here during lunch time Sunday, I had to wait for a bit to get seated. It’s very popular and cash only place. As we were called to be seated, my friends and I were ready to order; we ordered bun bo hue and drinks. Since we ordered drinks, the waiter/waitress didn’t bother to bring us water. I actually wanted water too; along with my drink too. Food: The Bun Bo Hue is a bit bland, feels like it wasn’t cool long enough for the bones to flavor the broth! I ordered the Bun Bo Hue small, very bland, not to flavorful. Service: I think the service is pretty bad. It was super busy, maybe more staffings would help!

This review is for bun bo hue only. This was my first time having bun bo hue here. I ordered bun bo hue. The broth was too sweet. They put very little noodles in my small sized bowl. The one on Story Rd is much better. I will go to there instead then.

I love bun bo hue and I love An Nam, but the original one on Story Road. The broth of this location is way too sweet. I couldn’t finish the small bowl. The presentation is also not as nice as the one on Story.

Before I say anything else, I suggest that you order the Bun Bo Hue because frankly you’ll be seen and known as being weird for even trying to eat anything else. Like, common the name of the dish is the name of the restaurant! Now lets get to it! The bun bo hue is actually pretty good here, which is hard to believe because I find it a really hard dish to make especially when the broth is the most important part. Not only must the broth be flavorful, but it must also be spicy! And when I say«spicy», I mean spicy! Not the kind of spicy where it’ll make you cry but the kind that will make your nose itch. Personally, my family and I tend to ask for more spice just because we want our soup to make us cry(not really, but the spicier it is the better). So, if you are in the area, near the area, or even wanna try something spicy then I suggest coming here! But please be warned, if you are not yet accustomed to the fermented fish/seafood taste in most Vietnamese dishes, then I would sway from this place. With that being said, I hope you enjoy/suffer :D

Bun bo hue has no flavor — I think I got dishwater instead of broth… Service was ok though, except for the fact they served one bun rieu bowl about 5 minutes before bringing the rest out to the table. Won’t come back

Like many of my fellow Unilocalers have stated, the bun bo hue here is good. I mean, it’s in their name. But I actually come here for the bun mam(rice vermicelli soup w/fermented fish and seafood). This soup isn’t as popular as the others because of its potent fermented fish smell, but once you get past the initial scent, you’re in for a whole new world of deliciousness. The bowl consists of shrimp, calamari, fish, and my favorite house roasted pork. I don’t like the texture of fish when submerged in soup so I substitute it for meatballs and it goes pretty well with it. The broth is on the sweeter side so I’ll squeeze in a few drops of lemon juice to tone it down a notch and that always does the trick. Keep in mind it can get a little heavy towards the end when the broth has cooled down. That’s not a problem for me but others might find it hard to finish. I find myself venturing here when I’m tired of the typical noodle dishes. It’s a good alternative when you’re debating between which broth to get. *I’ve also tried their banh beo multiple times and it’s nothing worth mentioning. Sugarcane juice is good and refreshing even though they don’t fill it pass the lid like the Story location.

California Trip #19 I think it’s time to wrap up my trip to California. *sob* My last review is special because I got to have dinner with the lovely Sissi K. While in Cali, I really wanted to try pizzle because no Vietnamese restaurants in Hampton Roads serve it. So, Sissi was kind enough to take me to Bún Bò Huê An Nam 2(BBHAN2). BBHAN2 is located at a strip-mall, the interior has a lovely décor, and the woman who took care of us that day was very friendly. It was wonderful having Sissi there to help me order. I got Bún Bò Huê & Ngâu Pín, which is Spicy Beef Soup Noodle with Pizzle.(For those who don’t know what pizzle is, it is also called super tendon; also known as penis – ox penis to be specific.) My «small» bowl of BBH arrived, along with the usual items served. Except there was one item I wasn’t able to identify. Lucky for me, Sissi was there! Banana blossoms are not served at the Vietnamese restaurants here in Hampton Roads – at least, I haven’t noticed them. Now I will be on the lookout for them. The broth of my BBH was wonderful, full of rich complex flavors, and the delicious lemongrass as well as the red chilies, which definitely made my nose run. The pizzle was… different. O-o The first bite was okay – easy enough to chew; the flavor is mild. Not a real discernible meaty taste. The second bite, however, was a bigger bite and much harder to chew. Very chewy indeed. That ended my pizzle adventure. Maybe if I’d had a knife, I would have been able to cut that bad boy down to chewable bite-sizes… I wish I’d been able to try their Bún riêu, but I couldn’t even finish my «small» bowl of BBH. I’ve already started a new list for my next trip and Bún riêu will be on it. I had a wonderful time at BBHAN2, sharing a bowl of BBH with a great friend. Thank you, Sissi! :)

My first time here! Ordered the Phở with tripe, tendon and beef and meat balls on top of noodles. It was ready in a reasonable time. Each person ordering Phở, gets her own small plate of bean sprouts, sliced jalapenos, limes and basil leaves and some other skinny long slightly bitter leaf and I put them in my Phở. While everything was good; I can’t help but thinking the soup did not have that long lasting flavor that I usually experience. I must say, my Phở was not overly salty. Kudo’s to this place ! $ 9.95 for a small bowl that was satisfying. Super Tip: For light eaters, pay another dollar for a large and I’m sure two light eaters could share and be full ! Kudo’s: I asked for a small amount of soy sauce and, instead was brought some sliced green onion in a light black pepper oil. But it was yummy. Décor: nicer than most and clean. Slightly upscale feeling here. Customer service: speedy. I did have to ask for my ice water to be refilled. Limited menu.

Found a perfect spot to get more than just a bon bo hue soup. They carry more variety than their other location on story. Get there early or they sell out quickly!

This is hands down the best bun bo hue in town. The broth is just right. A little bit spicy but not too much. Very flavorful. I LOVE the cha(pork cake) here. It’s cha Hue so it has extra pepper in there. We always buy cha to add to it. We usually get the big bowl for $ 12 but it’s big enough for two. My cousin eats here every week. No joke.

Smells like cigarettes despite the«no smoking signs», not cool! Phở is good but I could not enjoy my food as much as I would have liked to due to the stinky environment.

Bun Bo hue here is pretty ehh. There’s no wow factor like Ca Mau, and the small bowl is seriously small. For 45 more cents, I suggest getting the large. Also I ordered a Thai tea for $ 3.50. Wait let me rephrase, I ordered a cup of 30% Thai Tea and 70% ice for $ 3.50. By this point I’m pretty used to getting a drink with 40% ice at Vietnameese places, but 70%?! I also complained about it… And all the worker did was walk in the back and then back out… So I assume he talked to the manager which decided it’s ok to rip off customers.

The broth is always flavorful, however, it is lacking the spice that their other location on Story Rd offers. Whenever I come here, I always have to ask for satay chilli on the side to add in. Bun bo hue is supposed to be spicy, but they probably serve it more mild here for children. Despite the broth being mild, this is my favorite place to go for bun bo hue in San Jose.

I liked the other location on Story Rd better. There was completely no spice in it at all. I was disappointed. Go to the other location instead. The spice really makes the BBH. The banh beo was good though.

I like«Bun Bo Hue An Nam 1 than 2. «Bun Bo Hue» at this place is okay. I rather eat Bun Bo Hue An Nam 1 in Story across Wallmart.

Bun bo hue– pork replaced by coagilated blood, extra spicy The soup is mediocre The white piece(mo) wasn’t chewy at all. The beef was overcooked. The greens smell good. The cha has a good pepper taste.

So disappointed in the bun bo hue here. They’re my favorite kind of Viet noodles, so of course I was excited to try it upon my sister’s recommendation. I think we went on an off day, because she agreed that it was much better the first time she had it. What was wrong with it? 1. The meat was ridiculously chewy. Oh, so chewy and tough. I was barely able to force it down my throat after chewing for what seemed like a million years. 2. I ordered the small size, and there were approximately 10 noodles in my soup. Seriously, I slurped those down in 30 seconds. 3. The broth wasn’t spicy at all. I have an okay tolerance for spice, but there was none to be had. Sad times. 4. The service. We asked for cooked bean sprouts, and they came out raw. «Oh, are these cooked?» Without blinking, the server said yes. This is on top of us having to wait 5 minutes between receiving our food and getting the veggie toppings. I’d give them a second chance, but my expectations will be much lower next time.
