Best grilled cheese and tomato soup EVER. We tried the bandit and we can’t wait to come back and try them all!

The butch Cassidy was horrible smell too eggy. On the other hand the tomato soup was so delicious wish was in a bigger container.

Great and friendly customer service! Prices are a little bit cheaper then typical food truck prices(all items are under $ 10!) I had the Butch Cassidy(salami and provolone) and mannn it was super gooey and good. My tomato bisque was barely warm and definitely needed to be heated up. Soup+Sandwich came out to $ 10.50 which isn’t bad but… something was lacking! I easily could have made the same exact thing at home with stuff from Trader Joes for a fraction of the cost. You can’t really go wrong with a grilled cheese sammich! With that being said, GCB is always a solid choice if you are undecided at any food truck meet up.

Great grilled cheeses! They have Texas toast, which is my favorite to dip into soup. I got the bandit, which has four types of cheese on Texas toast. My boyfriend got the grilled cheese with garlic, and we shared a bowl of tomato bisque. Their bisque is sorta chunky, more like clumps of tomato than soup. Almost like marinara sauce. Only a place to go when you’re craving grilled cheese, but it sure does satisfy that.

I wish the name were cheesier so that I could be punny about a cheesy food truck :3 Grilled Cheese Bandits features a playful menu with character(sandwich with no name? enticing!), and it is possible to get a legit meal for under $ 6(in comparison to most food trucks which require $ 9+ for non-snack food). I got the DILLINGER($ 4.50, garlic jack with homemade garlic seasoning on Texas Toast) which satisfied my grilled cheese cravings, but very salty and not earth-shattering. My favorite part was the bread, soft, fluffy, and charred in picturesque grilled cheese fashion with a mild hint of butter without being too greasy. The jack cheese didn’t really synergize with the garlic; it lacked the kick of pepperjack and would have perhaps fared better with an addition of black pepper or jalapenos. Overall it tasted like a standard grilled cheese(with extra yummy bread) with added garlic, like something you’d expect from the Gilroy Garlic Festival. In conclusion, not bad, but if you want to get fancy the $$ quickly adds up. Instead of blowing $ 8 on a grilled cheese with tomatoes and pesto(the guilano, almost twice the price of the dillinger), honestly I prefer to make my own dirt-cheap grilled cheese with plenty of toppings and Pinterest-inspired creativity. (Side note: Grilled Cheese Bandits is probably disappoint-proof because you really can’t go wrong with cheese. In fact, I recently saw a «Cheese Recipes that are Better than your Significant Other List» and while I(wholly and vehemently(!!!)) disagree, it goes to show the wonderliciousness that cheese is capable of)

Pretty awesome truck. I’ve tried many different grilled cheese trucks and this one is probably my favorite. The bread was buttery and amazing and the cheese was melted to perfection. I got smoked salmon and it could’ve used a bit more, but was overall pretty good. Really quick and friendly service too! Most reasonable prices for portion size out of all the trucks.

We tried this place last weekend at the Free Family Art Day at MACLA on south 1st street. The food came in large portions, was generously cheesy as well as fresh, and they gave us some free potato balls for being the last customers of the day. Awesome!

GCB is ALWAYS at Pleasanton OTG and THANKGOD. My husband and I go every Sunday and in the beginning, it was a lot of hit and miss. Once we tried GCB, we were hooked. If we weren’t all that sold on anything else in the line-up, we could always rely on them for a great meal. Husband likes the Jesse James and I’m a total sucker for The Sandwich with No Name. I swear I’ll try other things, but not just yet. I imagine the others are on par with TSWNN. At first, I was skeptical on a $ 9 sammy. I mean… it’s a grilled cheese… and as a person who never had grilled cheese until I married a white guy… I wasn’t really sold on the idea. GCB knows how to make you a believer. It’s not just two slices of bread and some cheese out of a plastic wrapper. This is melty, gooey, sharp, mild, rich, decadent, and fresh all in one bite. The portion is huge — One sammy is going to cover lunch and dinner for me(I’m a 5 foot ray of sunshine) and at least lunch and a snack for my husband(He’s a 6’2″ meat and potatoes kind of guy). The service is quick(none of that waiting 20 mins for your stuff like some other trucks) and the folks running the truck are super friendly :) Thank you guys for honoring the Unilocal offer even though I couldn’t check in! You guys are the best. Thanks again and see you next Sunday! :)

What in tarnation did I git myself into? Ordering Grilled Cheese?! My cardiologist would never approve(because cardiologists are not trained in the field of nutrition) I digress. I get the Jesse James with bacon. That’s what you should get here, thank me later. Four stars for the Jesse James with bacon(yeehaw) from the Grilled Cheese Bandits truck.

After having to dip into my son’s college fund to get two crappy grilled cheese, I was hesitant to try another grilled cheese place. The Bandits restored my faith! I got the Dill for $ 7 since it was a limited time special. This is what I expect when paying for a gourmet grilled cheese. Great flavor, prefect bread, and cooked to perfection. Nice work!

This review is for customer service only. They cancelled my catering order the day of my 220 person event due to a generator issue. Rather than remedying the situation and accepting blame, he went on to say that they were in a worse position than I as they would not be able to serve for 2 days. They did attempt to find me a substitute, but in the end we couldn’t find anyone available and he just said oh well, that’s not my problem. Obviously everyone was booked as it was last minute(he left a message on my office phone at 12:20pm and I returned the call when I got back to the office at 2pm and the event was 4−7pm…could’ve called my cell or sent an email)!! This was absolutely unacceptable and I will never ask for their services. Highly unprofessional.

This place has converted me into becoming a grilled cheese fan! I’m not much of a fan of sandwiches period especially grilled cheese but these sandwiches looked and smelled awesome so I was curious. I was at OTG Hayward and was looking for something different to eat instead of the same food I always eat and they reeled me in. Looking at their menu they had quite a few different varieties of grilled cheese, some with ham, some with tomato, some with multiple cheeses or just a regular grilled cheese you may have eaten as a kid. I personally did not want any produce or meat on mine and I wanted something with flavor so I opted for The Dillinger($ 4.50), which is basically a garlic jack cheese grilled sandwich and I also got the mashed potato balls. The sandwich was great, the cheese was nice and gooey and it had just the right amount of garlic flavor(not overpowering) and the bread was definitely not your average white bread you get at the store. I was very pleased and have never tasted a grilled cheese quite like that one and the mashed potato balls($ 3.00) were killer as well, had a cheesy flavor to them though I do wish they came with a type of dipping sauce just to set it off. The pricing to me was appropriate for the quality and taste of the food and the customer service was awesome, the gentleman that helped me said if I did not like The Dillinger that he would make me a completely different sandwich and I found that to be very nice of him. But luckily I loved it and had it twice in the same week. If you are at OTG and Grilled Cheese Bandits is there you have to give them a try.

Time: 5:17pm/74°F mostly sunny Purpose: Got off work at 5 couple of coworkers ask what I was gonna do? I said jumping on Bart heading home then figure out something later if any. They said let’s walk over to OMCA see what’s new. Debated about 5 seconds to end up following them. Set-up: Mobile food truck, menu description on laminated paper, 2 sliding window opening order/pick up, side board flips up holding in utensils and condiments. Staff: Two girls and one guy. The girls do the cooking and prep work while the guy is the order/cashier guy. Friendly gets your order in when done calls for you. There wasn’t any problem with anyone of them, will deal with them again. Cleanliness: Grade A, from a customer POV no complaints truck was in good shape clean exterior. Looks although they probably was it before heading out tonight. Eats/Drinks: An order of tater balls $ 3. Piping hot from the oil as it was fried version of tater tots. These tots were almost the size of a golf ball just a not smaller in diameter. I was saying wow nice size and it was but tje weight was so light the inside hardly has shredded match stick size potato. Comes in a container with clear lids, handed over to me it was warm to the touch. Pop lid and squeeze ketchup, mustard, and Tapatió sauce different sauce in each one. I enjoy all of them as each tot carrys their own blend of taste to it. However if I must choose one I would go with the mustard version. Tasted better than ketchup and Tapatió. Exploring different ways is what I do best when it comes to DIY makeover food. Products/Services: The Jesse James, Butch Cassidy, Sandwich with no name, Kid, Giuliano, Sundance Kid, Bandit, Dillinger. Sides: Mashed tater balls/tomato bisque. Cheapest item on menu $ 2 The Kid sando, most expensive The Jesse James sando $ 9. Punch Lines: Mobile truck portable, friendly, fast/efficient, fresh, items are about cheese, name after infamous american gangsters, cash/square/CC/debit, American cheddar most popular use here. Tradeoffs: It’s comparable to Melt but at fraction of the cost. No overhead prices savings pass on to customers. Final Thoughts: Who would have thought cheese would ignite a following for this delectable treat? I’ve always thought that cheese was cheese and that’s still true but the way how you prepare it, is the fun part of exploring ways to improve. I like the prices here for simple eats as with some places they want an arm/leg for a grilled cheese sando, not here. Two thumbs up for GCB’s. To me it’s more like an hash brown but sold as tots to differentiate itself from it.

I want to like them. I love grilled cheese. I had high hopes. We have been there multiple times and it’s just always«meh». The Dillinger, which they say has garlic jack with homemade garlic seasoning is just half melted jack cheese on some toast with a scoop of minced garlic in the middle of the bread. It doesn’t taste bad, but it’s not anything special, and can we please melt the cheese. The cheese is also used sparingly, another slice would do this sandwich some good. Occasionally they are out of chips, they won’t bother to tell you, no discount, you’ll just walk away with a ½ empty box. The tater balls are ok, but greasy. I have no problem skipping them. All in all, it’s fine if you really crave a grilled cheese, if not, skip it.

We visited this food truck recently. While the concept is great, the execution needed a little work. I wish they had photos of their sandwiches. We settled on the«Butch Cassidy», which is provolone cheese, a few scant slices of Russian dry salami, on organic SF sourdough. The outside was slightly greasy and there’s not a lot of meat. I did enjoy the salami flavor and the bread was of a good quality. Portion size was huge and the sandwich came out toasty hot. I agree with others that the price seemed a bit high. Also, after eating about half of the sandwich, it got a bit monotonous. The cheese also cooled down and it was like eating rubber. I’m not a huge fan of provolone, so maybe that’s my fault. The«Jesse James» sandwich seemed interesting(ham, cheddar, truffle oil), however, it was a whopping $ 9. Um, yeah. I wish they offered a half portion. Would gladly pay $ 4 for the Butch(or $ 5 for the Jesse) and they could make even more money. :)

The Bandito is what I went with. I wanted to try the regular grilled cheese first since this was my first time actually getting a chance to check this food truck out. Usually, the line is so ridiculous that I just proceed to walk by. This time I didn’t have to wait. Yay!!! :) So with my first bite, it was just right. Love the simplicity. Yet such perfection. The ooey gooey inside of the melted cheese with the perfect thickness of the bread that’s soft inside yet crunchy outside was a wonderful marriage. I enjoyed it very much. I will certainly be a returning customer. Of course, I’d try the other grilled cheese sandwiches they offer.

Grilled Cheese Bandit was at the Off The Grid food truck event in Sunnyvale, so I decided to give it a try. It was between this and the chicken & waffles truck. I was having second thoughts about eating a cheesy dinner due to my fear of cheese causing constipation… but I do love cheese and I do love me my grilled cheese sammiches. I chose this food truck because the pricing is not bad for the amount of food you receive. It’s a pretty large sandwich, not the dinky sandwich breads you see at the Safeway market. The box they place it in is also partly filled with chips. I ordered the Butch Cassidy. I agree with the other reviewers that the bread could have used a bit more butter spread on it to make ti taste more rich. The amount of cheese was okay. It could have used more. It felt like there was a bit too much bread. When I bit into it, it didn’t pull away, nor did it stay melted long enough. By the time I finished half, the cheese in the other half had already solidified. No problem, I just saved it for the next day and put into a microwave, which just remelted the cheese. All in all, the grilled cheese truck did it’s job, I got my grilled cheese sandwich and it was good. However, I think I’ll save my money and pay a little extra for what the other trucks may have. I might come back in the future to try their open sandwich with an egg on top. Can’t go wrong with over easy egg on a sandwich.

I like the concept, and the grilled cheese sandwiches are actually quite good here. There’s also a lot of options to choose from, all in the $ 7 – 9 range. Therein lies the rub. Yes, they’re good-quality sandwiches, and I get that they use fairly good ingredients, but $ 7 – 9 for grilled cheese with a few slices of meat? With all the other choices for food trucks out there, I dare say you’d be able to find a better tradeoff on the cost-quality-quantity spectrum at some other trucks. Still, an above average grilled cheese sandwich that’s worth the typical 3.5 Unilocal stars, but doesn’t quite rise up to the 4-star occasion.

Back at it again with my first food truck for 2013! Grilled Cheese Bandits! I attended an ever at the Usuals and Grilled Cheese Bandits was a provider of food service. The menu had the basics of bread, cheese, and a limited choices of deli meats. With any grilled cheese sandwich, they have tomato soup available for those of you who opt for it. For myself, I took a quick glance the menu and went for the Butch Cassidy and a side of the mashed potato balls. The Butch Cassidy was composed of provolone cheese and dry Russian salami all grilled in between sourdough bread. The mashed potato balls was shaped into a ping pong sized ball. The mashed potato ball had an outside breading with a mashed potato and cheesy center. The Butch Cassidy was crispy and cheesy. I should’ve asked for more salami in my sandwich since the slices where thin. The sandwich overall was OK. As for the mashed potato balls, they were very good. It kinda reminded me of the Cuban bakery in Southern California I would visit and order something similar. Those of you familiar with the bakery will know what I’m talking about. The service was great and helpful. Give this truck if your craving that grilled cheese sandwich!
