This review is not about the food. Food has always been consistent. I have been eating at iguana since 2008. It got me through college :) But I am very disappointed with the security staff. Lately, they have been hostile and rude to customers. I know this particular location has a lot of after bar customers but that’s not reason to rowdy security personnel. No matter how popular you are if you don’t treat your customers with respect you will ultimately fail. I hope they find their way back.

Great food from a great family with a great atmosphere and don’t forget the great prices. This place has always been connected to the community as well. I’ve been to Bible studies here, Open mic music, poetry, and spoken word or just a nice place to get some food. I love the Nacho yo average fries(Nacho fries). Hot sauce is good, but could be better. Try it out you won’t be disappointed.

Ordered a ground beef taco salad with no guac, got carne asada with guac. And the bottom had a puddle of water from the beans so it was completely soggy. Iguanas is a good option for a starving SJSU student but there are better options in DTSJ.

Ehhh. I’m too spoiled with good Mexican food to say this was extraordinary. Not a huge fan of nacho cheese in my burritos. It makes it tastes like plastic. The tortillas are those regular store bought«leathery» tortillas. It’ll satisfy the craving.

Odd entry — 2 doors? This looks like a typical college food dive. I’ve been wanting to eat here for years after it was featured on Man Vs. Food. Got a carnitas burrito and carne asada super fries. It was okay.

I’ve heard major praises about this place. Everyone was telling me that I HAD to visit iguanas when in SJ. BLAH! Worst advise ever! The food was so bland and sad. The place was dirty and uninviting. I’ll never recommend this place to anyone. I don’t care how big the burritos are. It’s not worth the calories or price!

A pretty good place for burritos, especially as a late-night munchies destination. Portions range from formidable to comically large, including the burritozilla, which is comparable to a party sub. Service is usually pretty quick, and the meat is pretty decent, if a little lacking in flavor. There’s orange sauce, but it’s pretty average. Overall a solid San Jose taqueria, but it’s sometimes hard to compete with the embarrassment of riches in the area.

I usual get the burritos which are really good. But today me and my friend ordered two quesadillas and when we were goin to eat them, the tortillas were so soggy it was disgusting. I called back and told the guy who picked up and he said«oh, yea, uh huh I kno» what kinda business is this? i will happily go back to la vics which is a couple doors down. It’s a shame when you lay 25 $ for lunch and you can’t even eat it cause your so disgusted

This place gets 5 stars no question. The food is great and the atmosphere inside the old Victorian home hits the spot after you’ve been at a nearby bar. They are open late and the workers are efficient and friendly enough considering they are dealing with a sometimes rowdy crowd. Coin tokens operate the bathrooms and they have been clean enough. I like their taco salad and although its gotten a bit smaller over the years it still has an awesome tasty yet greasy bowl to eat.

The worst burrito ever. The place was really dirty And smelly. I ask to get my table clean and the cloth That he use to clean smell like fish. Different sized burritos available. Burritozilla is huge and is a 5 pound burrito for $ 25. Everyone in our party of 5 had the regular sizes which worked out well. The grilled meats are very good. The fillings are alright but nothing unique or special. For instance, the vegetarian burrito has rice, beans and salsa. No veggies. The highlight is the sauce that tastes like a combination of mile hot sauce and peanut sauce. All you can drink soda fountain is a plus. Small place with a front patio. The place was converted from an old Victorian house.

Dude… why even go here? The food is so dry and boring. I went here and tried their shrimp burrito and the nachos and was so disappointed. Dry. Bland. Bleh. The chips were stale so we complained, but no resolution because«they only make one batch a day»??? Gross? Don’t bother going here when there’s better choices of Mexican food in Downtown San Jose like Angelou’s or La Victoria’s. Also, I was pretty drunk so food tasting terrible while drunk is a huge red flag. Usually everything tastes good or you give it more mercy! Not here.

There is a HUGE variety of Mexican restaurants in San Jose, and plenty that surrounds SJSU. The two more popular ones would be Iguanas and La Vics. I definitely prefer Iguanas. It’s cleaner and the food is overall better for me I love the carne asada burrito here, and I also love that they have a lot of customizable options. I like adding lettuce to my burrito cause I think it adds a nice crunch. You can even add fries to your burrito for an extra charge of $ 1! Their service is super fast and I love that they make it in front of you so you can watch them do it. I’ve also had their nacho fries, and they use thin fries, unlike La Vics who use thick cut fries. I personally prefer the thin type, and I ask for light nacho and sour cream because sometimes they over do it for me. If you’re a student make sure to show your ID for 10 percent off!

Came here for lunch and was super disappointed in the food and poor customer service. The guy taking our order seemed irritated that we took a minute to figure out what to order, not sure why since there was nobody behind us in line. After ordering a burrito with no tomatoes and a side of chips and salsa I got a huge side of pico de gallo, I asked if they had any other salsa and they said no. What kind of Mexican restaurant only offers pico de gallo and no other salsas? And don’t you think he should’ve said something after I asked for no tomatoes on my Burrito? When I asked for a refund for the chips and salsa he replied«I guess» with an attitude. The meat in my burrito was bland, no flavor!!! Waste of money, definitely will not go back!

This was my 1st and last time coming to Iguanas. Even though the food was nothing but amazing and the atmosphere was chill. The chick working the register had horrible customer service skills. She was terribly rude. I felt like I was an inconvenience to her when I came up to the register to order. Because of her, I will not return. Which is a shame because the food was delicious.

We got food poisoning last night after sharing a burrito. It tasted kind of like olives but no olives in it… metallic. The 2 guys making food were filthy and don’t wear gloves yet they rub their nose, wipe sweat with hands etc. I would not be surprised if they don’t want their hands. Go to the other iguanas locations, this one is nasty and 2nd time I’ve had a weird burrito there.

Perfect for late night munchies! Opened until 3AM on weekends & until 12AM on weekdays. I ordered: –steak super burrito with no beans, no salsa, & guac on the side for ~$ 7 I was pretty disappointed with the size of the burrito. I expected it to be a lot bigger. I’ve definitely gotten bigger burritos for that same price elsewhere before. & since I gotten it without all the beans & salsa my burrito was fairly skinny. I would’ve expected they would fill up the gaps with more meat or rice but nope. The first bite was all tortilla. Mehhhh. The burrito was good & they didn’t mess up on my complicated order which I really appreciate. The steak was pretty well done which I didn’t really like. It was way too chewy. & I wish they would’ve diced up the meet more. Nothing too special. I would come back again if I was hungry late night, but it’s definitely not my first choice for a burrito spot. I really like their guacamole! It was just plain smashed avocados with a bit of lime & nothing else in the mix. Just the way I like my guac! There’s only street parking & it can get busy since it’s in downtown. I had to park around the block & it was 12AM. They also had a huge line that went out the door during this time as well.

I usually go to this location but I ended up going to the Saratoga store because it was closer to where I work and I had just clocked off. Little did I know that I should have just gone to this downtown location in the first place. As I was parked in front of the Saratoga location, I called downtown Iguanas myself to ask if they were open. Luckily the manager was the one that answered the phone and I let them know about my experience from the Saratoga location. He was disappointed to hear that I went and the other store had closed earlier than they were suppose to. He quickly turned the situation around. He apologized on their behalf and took care of me at this location. Glad to see smiling faces every time I eat here. This is by far my favorite location. Always spot on customer service and especially delicious food!

I really like this place. I’m a member at tech shop across the street and this is the go-to place for lunch when I’m working there. Hell, I look forward to going there every time I’m at tech shop. Is it the best most authentic hard-core east side burro to rival the best? Almost… Is the price right — hell yes. Is their la-vic kinda sauce on point — oh ya. Are the tortilla those kind you can almost see through — check. Do I need a nap after finishing one of their regular size burros — every time. I’ve tried the carne asada and al pastor — both very good. The staff is always friendly, etc. etc. etc. Just a good frigging burro place.

I feel like a Debby downer, and I also feel like a drop of water in an ocean of reviews, but this place did not thrill me! I’m so sorry! I enjoyed my nacho cheese wrapped burrito with chipotle chicken! It was yummy! I also tried my friend’s cheesy fries! That was really good! I had horchata to drink! Mm! But it was hard to focus on the flavor with how smelly the place was, and how uncomfortable. One of the servers… Maybe the owner? She was this really nice woman and she recommended the burrito I got, then she kinda disappeared and my group and I… We were left with the cooks who shouted out numbers really loud but very unclearly, so it was hard to tell when it was our turn. The place smelled like an old school… I don’t know how else to explain it. Like there was mold in the walls? Like… Damp? And I know it seems rude and weird to mention the smell, but I’m so used to restaurants smelling like the delicious food they serve. And this bad smell would NOT go away! My nose never got used to it! I would order to go! But I would never eat in there again!

Quick service but the food was not very good. The burrito I ordered had barely any meat in it and was mostly beans. Tasted like a taco bell school lunch burrito. Definitely pass on this place, and go hit up LA Victoria 200 ft away.

Yuck. I got a super veggie burrito, and it was the worst veggie burrito I’ve ever had. Everything was bland, and it was soggy from not properly draining the beans. Everyone in my group said theirs was soggy from bean water, too. On the plus side, service was great. We got our food very quickly. The kicker: La Vic’s was right around the corner. Damn. I blew it.

This iguanas is the best place for me to go to because they have the only exclusive burrito called the breezy excursion. Basically it’s nacho fries in a burrito. Does get busy probably because it’s right next to SJSU. I’m not complaining though. They get your food out pretty fast. Lots of indoor seating and limited outdoor seating. I thought the cashier was pretty cool, friendly and sometimes cracks you up. Didn’t get his name though.

A five pound burrito!!! Yes, that right, they have on their menu a five pound burrito! My son and I stopped by to get some food to take home and we decided to try it. After all who can resist trying something that sounds so outrageous as such a giant burrito, the Burritozilla, offered for $ 22! When we ordered it, the person taking the order cautioned us that it was too much for us. It was only after we said that it was to go and there would be four people eating it that he consented to let us to order it! We watched it being made behind the counter. You get your choice of several meats; we chose carne asada. The cook spreads out three very large tortillas, each overlapping each other. Then he proceeds to ladle in giant amounts of the ingredients: rice, beans(you get your choice of several; we chose black), the meat, cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, etc…) This was then carefully and tightly rolled into a foot and a half long burrito. For transportation, it was placed in a long sturdy cardboard box. On arrival at home, and slicing it into four pieces, each 1 and a quarter pounds in weight, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. It was very tasty. The price is very reasonable if you are sharing it with four people(only $ 5.50 each), and you still have to be hungry to devour such a large individual serving. If you split it five ways, there would still be plenty per person.

Been a royal customer for yearssss!!! I honestly cannot any other burrito but Iguana’s! This is the last meal I have before leaving SJ and the first meal I get the moment I get back(either this or in n out). I literally would drive in the middle of the night, finding the rare parking spot in downtown at midnight, walking in the dark(and dangerous downtown) just to get Iguana’s… That’s how much I love it… But recently, they’ve pretty cheap on the meat portion(the only reason I come here is for the meat). Like seriously, my nacho fries is half as full as it used to be just the beginning of this year and my burrito looked sad… There’s so much rice and other stuff but its so hard to find the meat. I thought it was just a one time thing but I gave you guys too many tries before writing this review just because I love you guys! Common Iguana’s… You were the chosen one… I might be wrong, I don’t always notice the price but I think it has been slightly raised too. But I wouldn’t mind if that means I get the same quality I’ve getting for years. Please fix this or else you will definitely lose more customers.

I have been going here for the better part of 13 years, but after tonight, I am done. I used to eat here every day. Sometimes 2 to 3 times a day. One year we even figured out I was spending between 1500 – 2000 a year on just eating here. I was really sad they closed the first time. I loved the hell out of their orange sauce. On the day they closed, the chef, who knew me on a first name basis, gave me a bucket of orange sauce. I was one of the first people there when they reopened. I bought a plane ticket back to San Jose and flew back just to eat there opening week. Even now, as their orange sauce has deteriorated to where it is now, I still go there when I come into town, not so much for the quality, but mainly because of 13 years of loyalty. The family was always nice to me, Jimmy and I would talk about drumming, and I was just happy the little guy won and they got their restaurant back. These days, you feel like a thief for asking for more orange sauce. The white guy at the cash registers on weekends treat you like you asked for his first born’s virginity. Sure, I’m willing to bet someone abused the system and now we’re paying for it, but to treat all like we’re all hoarding and stocking up at home, it is terrible customer service, and to be honest, quite insulting. I noticed this attitude started about 1 year ago, but tonight was the final straw. Apparently, regardless of your order size, you get 3 to go containers per receipt. Never mind that you have 3 or 4 burritos or just one. The guy tells you its 50 cents, then you go to the cash register and you get a condescending«Well ACTUALLY… it’s 75 cents.» Friendly when ordering your order, treats you like a jackass when their own staff quotes one price, you repeat it, and then get the condescension like you just tried to slip by and bone their family member. Pro tip: if you have multiple item order, order each of them seperately. In a way, I am glad for being treated the way I was treated. I no longer feel like I am eating out of loyalty. The orange sauce no longer tastes the way I remembered it, and I no longer need to make excuses as to why. Side note, I used to like giving them a 30% tip because he makes a point to let the cooks know they got a big tip, and they were actually grateful. It sucks working at night for drunk people, and it felt good to do so. I glad I don’t have to worry about that anymore.

This place was a HUGE disappointment. I’ve honestly never felt this dissatisfied with«Mexican food» ever! My bf and I door-dashed this place and ordered 2 steak burritos(more like veggie burrito. It had no friggin meat!) and«steak» nachos. I started with the nachos and thought I’m glad I didn’t just order this because there was hardly any meat, the chips were stale and it just wasn’t that great. So I bite into my burrito and it had a displeasing garlic taste from the rice, I’m assuming. I added hot sauce to the burrito in hopes of making it taste better and it was a complete FAIL. I open the burrito and it was watery and literally a bit of meat at the bottom. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

BOMB dot com! My order: carne asad fries, breezy excursion burrito, and the horchata. Everything was delicious from the first to the last bite. I didn’t care too much for orange sauce. The portions were large and we had tons of leftovers. The horchata was nice and smooth, not grainy at all. Ambiance: typical college go to spot. Very casual, tons of seating inside and outside. I went on a Tuesday night so the noise wasn’t loud at all. Their open late night so it’s great for a late night snack.

Holy mole(sauce)! This place tastes like home-cooking with some love added as seasoning. I made the mistake of ordering delivery from them several months back. After that, I had to have them every few days. You know how you can taste when *love* is put into food? Yeah yeah. Call me cheesy(no pun intended). But Iguana’s definitely has that flavor in their cooking. Some people cook because it’s a job, and some people cook for the love of food. I’ll let you guess which one applies to Iguana’s. Heads up on their Monster Dip, vegetarians: it comes with ground beef in it. I’ve had a number of items from their menu, but I think their nacho fries are my fave. I was worried they’d be soggy by the time they got to me. But nope! Those potato strings were crunchy as could be, and topped perfectly with nacho goodies. Plus, their location is super easy to walk to if you happen to be downtown. And they’re open late enough for post-bar grubbin’. Be careful, though: it’s hot in there! Fortunately, they have plenty of patio seating.

Great service from fun and quick staff. They know how to keep a long line moving quick. Kudos! Ordered a carne asada super burrito. Only took about 5 – 7 minutes to receive my food. Also, as a SJSU student you receive a 10% discount. Pretty well priced food. I have no complaints. I prefer the orange sauce here over La Vic’s because this one has more kick. Heard they have open mic nights here not sure if it’s true or not but I’d check that out.

Good food, good prices, and good location. This review is for the carne asada super burrito and the carne asada Iguana nachos. The carne asada super burrito that I ordered was above average, but nothing amazing(I like La Victoria’s super burrito more). What I liked about Iguanas super burrito was the fresh ingredients that they used, as well as the speed in which they prepared my order. While the burrito was decent, I really loved the Iguana nachos, which is basically the super nachos with meat added. The Iguana nachos came with tortilla chips, nacho cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, beans, guacamole, and your choice of meat. Due to Iguanas proximity to SJSU, I’ll definitely be back to try out other things on their menu. As a tip, if you want to avoid long lines, don’t eat at Iguanas between 12pm to 12:40pm.
