I was honestly expecting a little better from Johnny Rockets as I’ve heard some good things about it in the past. It’s conveniently located near the SJSU campus so it didn’t take us that long to walk there. When we arrived there was a good amount of people there already, but we easily found some open seats. It definitely has that old school 1950’s diner theme to it. I ordered a burger called the route 66 that has onion, swiss cheese, and mushroom. I also ordered one of their original strawberry malt shakes because they looked damn good. The waiter came back to our table about ten-fifteen minutes after we placed out order. Unfortunately the food looked a lot better than it tasted. My burger ended up getting really soggy because of the mayo on it and the taste of the patty just wasn’t fresh. One redeeming quality was the strawberry shake. Super delicious and had a great texture to it, it was gone in a matter of seconds. I’m giving Johnny Rockets the benefit of the doubt and giving it three stars even though it probably ranks closer to two. Probably won’t eat here again anytime soon though.

The malt here is delicious! Recommend it! The rest of the food is average, same as customer service. I will go back for the malt only!

Good burgers and chicken sandwich. Fries were good hot and NOT dripping with oil. Andrew gave fantastic service and a great attitude. Thank you Andrew!

Avoid this place! Mediocre food, and actually managed to give my whole family food poison! Visited for lunch right before Christmas when we went to downtown San Jose for the ice ring. Ordered burgers. The food was so so. Two hours later, My husband, I and my older one all started throwing up. My husband and my son threw up a couple of more times that night. My younger one luckily avoided it because he only ate fries. My husband called the store for a complaint. They promised to call us back on Monday when the manager gets in. Callback never happened, so a bad review is a must. Don’t go to this place!

I have no idea how Johnny Rockets is still in business. Maybe it’s the atmosphere. The old school diner feel that is apparently hard to come by… but Johnny Rockets suck. The food just sucks and there’s no better way to say it. You’re better off making burgers at home. The patty is dry as hell, there’s no good sauce that goes inside. everything about the burger is just blah. You’re really better of elsewhere… ANYWHERE else. I have nothing else to say about this place.

Great atmosphere! Awesome workers! Good food! I had the chili cheese hot dog. So juicy and delicious! I had to use a fork and knife since it was too messy. The fries are also really good! Workers: While John(our waiter) was getting the food. I had a lovely chat with another worker –didn’t get his name– about the fries getting thrown out 15 – 30 mins after they are made since they’ll no longer be crisp. This conversation ultimately led to free refill of fries for my party and I! John forgot to bring out the kids size milkshake we ordered so he gave us the regular size instead at no extra charge! Great customer service! :)

Johnny Rockets, like many other chains, has seen better days. What used to be a fun 50s flashback seems lackluster from the stripped-down menu to the sad, stressed faces of the staff. Our waitress Isabella was busting her butt to make sure everyone had drinks, fries, entrees, and water refills. My veggie Skyliner was ok; we had hoped to visit a different place but it was closed due to New Year’s Day and this location is closest to Christmas in the Park.

I’ll start with one(and only) positive: our waiter was a really nice kid, polite, helpful, soft-spoken. Now… 1-worst water I’ve EVER tasted in a restaurant. We couldn’t drink it. 2-burgers are just OK, not horrible, but certainly not great. 3-shakes made with fruit syrup, not real fruit: pure sugar, not fresh at all. 4-bathrooms are small(single), so there’s always a line, and they are not very clean. 5-it’s expensive. A burger here is $ 10+ dollars($ 70 for 3 adults and one child). You’d expect good food and a good dining experience; you’d be disappointed. Major let down.

I haven’t been to a Johnny Rockets in a few years. Ended up downtown after walking through Christmas in the park though and thought this would be a pretty good quick eat. After my experience tonight, I’ll never go back. We walked in and were told to find a seat wherever we wanted. That would be fine if it wasn’t a mad house that had resulted in parties of two taking up booths that seat six while two tops sat empty. Our party of nine ended up squeezed around a small table for four while waiting for the table nearby to clear off. The service has gone so far downhill. Our waiter took forever to take our order. Then it took forever for the food to arrive. After that our waiter disappeared and we needed to walk up to the counter to request drink refills and the bill. We never got any silverware or napkins. Gone were the days of speedy, efficient and courteous service. The food was mediocre. I missed the onion rings that used to be on the menu. The fries were bland and not particularly crisp. The burger was small and not very flavorful. None of the food was bad, but it was entirely forgettable. At the same time, this forgettable plate of food cost $ 14. I’ve had waaaaaay better burgers for half the price. At $ 14 it should be noteworthy. This complaint is the only note it gets. One busser seemed happy. All the other staff seemed harried and stressed. No one thanked us for coming. The waiter did not even bother to try to return our change until all but two ignore party had made it out the door. Farewell Johnny Rockets. I miss your better days.

Johnny Rockets can be described as an eh place. The service was bad and food was bad too, but a little pricey for just decent food. Nothing on the menu is more special than any other place. Almost everything is frozen until cooked, you can see the frozen fries, chicken tenders, and hamburger patty’s go on the grill and fryer. I ordered a cheeseburger and immediately after I got a stomach ache. There is only 1 bathroom per gender which is super inconvenient. Our waiter was rude. He kept ignoring us, so we ended up having to ask the bus boy to help us with something. We paid the check and were about to leave when our waiter finally came towards us. He began to accuse us of ditching the bill, even though we didn’t. Not coming here again.

Okay food, okay service. Like the theme of this whole place even though it seems to be catered more toward children. The food is VERY typical diner food, nothing really stood out to me at all. I ordered a simple cheeseburger with a side of onion rings and a milkshake. It took them over a half an hour before we got our food, a bit more time than I would have liked. My onion rings and milkshake were actually quite good, but the burger… not so much. There were barely any condiments inside making an already dry burger even dryer. The buns are way too big for the patty. You’re basically eating bread with the slight texture of other ingredients inside. I’d assume most people like their burger nice and juicy, but this one was just«meh». Even though the service was slow, the staff at Johnny Rockets is pretty awesome. They even gave us a free milkshake because they accidental brought out two to our table. Pretty sweet. Not worth it in my opinion, but it might be a fun place to take your kids every once in a while.

I lost my phone here and after i called in to the store, the phone was shut off. Im not insinuating anything, it’s just my opinion that one of the workers took it.

Decent burger, fries and shakes. Not the best burger ever, but a nice option if you have to take the kids out for a bite in downtown San Jose. Service is friendly.

My kids liked Johnny Rockets at GSR in Reno, they wanted to go for dinner today and we went. This was the first time I tasted the burger at Johnny Rockets, the worst one ever for $ 10. The patty was cooked two or three times, the meat was hard and dry, the patty was smaller hiding inside the big buns, not even close to In-n-out or Five Guys. Over priced for low quality food. The big restaurant with 1 restroom for 1 person only. I went to wash my hands and there was no soap. My wife was speechless and the kids didn’t even finish their burger. The fries and onion rings were OK. $ 6 for milk shakes that nothing to be impressed about. No wonder the one in Great Mall closed and replaced by Chipotle. Never had a terrible burger like this, even the burnt burger at Habit burger was not as bad. I think they tried to save some patties by re-grilled the old grilled patties even $ 10 burgers? No respect for customers. Read other 1&2 stars, they’re correct. This will be the first and last time for me to be in any Johnny Rockets… «Where is the beef» just like the old lady would ask… Cost $ 5 per hour for parking…

You pay for the atmosphere. Service is meh. Otherwise, the food is good. I had a burger and milkshake last time I came here. The shakes taste as good as real ice cream ones(which they might be). The burger was a little overdone but definitely better than a big chain. They keep the place sparkling clean. Overall this is a decent place to go if you feel like a quality burger fries and shake meal.

Burgers, fries, and milkshakes. This place is okay. I came here a lot during my first year of college at SJSU. Lots of seating, service is okay, food is okay too. I usually come here for the original burger and sometimes a milkshake, but it’s nothing special. Just your average burger and fries. This place can get busy when there are events in downtown san jose.

Stopped in foe some finger foods(onion rings) and a root beer milkshake. Had the eyes bigger than my stomach syndrome and went for a chili cheese hotdog as well. Overall good fast food for a Sunday fat day. The hotdog was good, but definitely greasy. You can taste the oil with each bite. The root beer float is good. I enjoyed it since it’s been a long time since I’ve had one. It’s a cute lil spot. Looks like a diner back in the days when fast food first got started.

Super slow service and small portions for the price. After I left, I noticed the waiter giving me a look after he checked how little I tipped. Uh, not something acceptable as a waiter. Food isn’t as good as before and I can see why there aren’t as many johnny rockets as before. I love 50s theme, but not johnny rocket… only their chili cheese fries are good. You’d have got to be a real dunce to really mess that up.
