Cool little hole in the wall bar. Drinks are expensive but strong and tasty. Staffing is cool and will be straight up with you. no bullshit

I’ll never be used to a cash only bar but this place is pretty alright! Right from the moment I walked in I seen smiling laughing people and it’s not over crowded. Mixed drinks are a good price and the bartenders are polite and take care of you quickly. I’m still new to all the gay bars in San Jose but I’ll definitely be coming back to this bar for a nice relaxing drink and visit!

I have just started going out in this bar on friday night. Have a couple of beers and head back home. One of the bartenders is good. atleast he smiles, looks around if anyone is waiting for an order & helps with the order. There is another bartender(bald guy) who seems to attend only people whom he knows and just ignores others. no smile. I just hang out there to be in the company of gay friendly people Also I wish they had a menu for cocktails. i am not aware of much of the drinks so i stick to beer.

I live downtown and started calling this my next regular spot. But, BUT! the old man bartender with a chip on his shoulder has got to lighten up or go. Everyone else has been cool but I don’t like when bartenders feel so entitled that they can be a D to whom ever they want if they feel like it. This is customer service. We are paying for our drinks. Its not really up to them what we order. I was previously warned not to come in on his shift. Now I see. Maybe it wont be my regular spot but I will come back. Have had fun here and good drinks and appreciate the decorations during the holidays. Reminds me of the Black Watch, with a different type of crowd and music. Its also nice that there is a little patio.

Overpriced drinks, watered down drinks, dingy and smelly bar. They don’t give out wifi info. The bartenders take forever, the bathrooms constantly smell like urine, the music is outdated and old. $ 7 for jack and Coke.

I love this place. It’s totally chill and the bar tenders are awesome. Very friendly. Tip well and they will take care of you for sure. Its a small place, but it makes the best use of the space possible and has a small outside patio area in the back. My friends and i come here every time we just want to hang out and not have to deal with the ratchets next door at splash.

High school reunion and I dragged my friends here. Friendly bartender. Fun crowd! My friend Rich got felt up… LOL! «You should’ve at least gotten a free drink out of that!» Cheap drinks… fun atmosphere… definitely worth a stop before continuing on.

My friend and I went out on a Wednesday and came to Mac’s. The bartender was super nice and made our drinks quickly and offered up suggestions. The patrons were also really nice no attitude to be found, everyone seemed to be having a great time. The prices were great too and the drinks were strong. The place is small but there is a nice patio with lots of seating. We also went back on Friday and even though the place had more people, it never felt too crowded and the friday bartenders were really cool too.

Laid-back with super friendly staff and patrons. Great place to meet new people; mostly boys. Definitely has the ‘Cheers’ vibe as mentioned in other reviews. But definitely lesbian-approved and generally perfect for the local downtown SJ queer single or otherwise! Close by to Splash. A good night is when you visit both. Also, next door along Post Street you’ll find great eats(Mexican or Chinese), should you need some fuel in between drinks. Hope to see more gay spots open up along Post Street in the future.(Investors, look this way!!)

I don’t know what people are complaining about here. If you are looking for a place to congratulate you on your unique drink selection, fashionable choice of dress, or stunning resting bitch face, this isn’t it. If you are looking for a good valued drink and some friendly dudes to talk to, come on down. I stop by here when I head from NYC to San Jose, every time. I’m never disappointed.

We were in San Jose to see the Pixies. Walked past Splash and it seemed like it wasn’t our scene. Decided to head into Mac’s cuz ‘Hotel California’ was playing and it seemed less attitude-y. WRONG. The crusty troll at the bar couldn’t accept an order for two martinis without a condescending laugh. When I asked what he was laughing about he lost all nerve and said«nothing». If you gonna pull attitude, stick with it, troll. I cancelled the order because I’ve been to REAL dive bars in tough places like rural Texas. This is downtown San Jose. Heart of gaytown. F*** off. Went back to Splash where we got awesome drinks and no bitter troll attitude! Who knew? Just goes to show … can’t judge a book by the cover.

I was just in the neighborhood to grab a drink and check out this bar. For some strange reason this old heavy set bartender stopped me right away and rushed me to get a drink order when I havent even settled yet in my seat. He was so aggressive and demanding as if he’s gonna lose business if you dont order right then. Instead of a welcoming feeling, I felt I was put on the spot at that moment. It was kind of humiliating and disrespectful. I just dont know what kind of customer service they have esp. for regular patrons as well. I dont think it would thrive in the long run if this old guy keeps working there and treats customer this way. I will never go back to this bar or promote it in anyway either to my friends or visitors…

Cute little bar. Went for the first time Friday night. Nick was great. One thing I didn’t like is the fact that they actually measure their alcohol. Not used to that. But cheap drinks so I guess that makes up for it.

Good cheap drinks and a nice place to just hang with your friends. Bartender is very friendly. Gay, straight, whatever are all welcome here. Can choose the music that’s playing out in the back patio. Would definitely come back here again.

Avoid. Stopped by for a beer, because it’s right here in my neighborhood… and how bad could it be, right? It’s stinks, quite literally. Body odor, stale beer. I mean, I get dive bars, but this is way off that spectrum. We walked in and it was like the music, all conversations stopped abruptly. Lots of creep stares. I only had a $ 100 bill and asked the bartender if he could break it. His response: «Are you going to order or not?» When the drinks were ready, he started loudly tapping the glasses on the bar to get my attention. Smallish, older bear. Rude. He gave my change in twenty dollar bills. That made my intention not to tip that much easier. We walked out back for a hot second. Trash in dumpsters, thick cigarette smoke and more creepy dudes. Seriously, this place should just close up and go away.

This is my go-to comfort bar. My favorite thing about this place besides the price point, attentive and relaxed staff– is the customer. This place is a definite melting pot of homo and ally from the fisted to the first timers, everyone can come grab a brew and feel at ease. The music is low enough to have conversation but loud enough to act like you cannot hear a daddy’s advance, even if his hand is on your crotch. This is probably the best bareback dive bar ever!

Epi has to be the nicest bartender ever. It’s because he’s not jaded. Give him five years and he’ll be crabby as the rest of us. Anyway, go see him. He’s the best.

Came here last night and it was pretty dead because it was a Tuesday night. My friend and I wanted to grab a drink after work and this place has cheap beers in tall glasses and a very relaxed and friendly environment. I’m updating my review and adding the extra star because of one of the bartenders there, Jeff. He introduced himself to us last night and took the time to talk to us, for a pretty decently long time as well. We talked about everything-work, the bar, the regulars, the beer, the drinks, current trends, generational differences, life. It was very intriguing listening to his stories as he more than twice my age, but it put a very nice perspective on the topics we discussed. He also made me a delicious Midori Sour and let the beer flow for my friend, if you’re wondering about the drinks. Lastly, this place rocks with the décor! They have since taken down the christmas decorations and they put up dragons and red lanterns, to celebrate the upcoming Lunar Vietnamese/Chinese/Korean New Year. So much better than tacky Valentines Day decorations you will see everywhere else. I’ll definitely be back here again and again!

Very chill and I like places like this. This is where you go when you want a good beer, watch a sporting event on TV or just hang out with some good friends. You can definitely tell who the regulars are and the bartenders are cooler than hell. They have a small patio out back and it’s really hard to feel uncomfortable here due to very friendly vibes. Wish there were more places like this in the valley but that right there would be a pipe dream.
