Max’s restaurants are a personal fave, so I was disappointed that the good restaurant experience did not extend to a simple sandwich stand at the airport. For me it was Max’s in name and logo only. I thought my first bad experience was a fluke, so I made the mistake of going there a 2nd time. I had the same so-so service and fare that I thought was well below the quality I’ve enjoyed in their restaurants. I guess the food is OK for airport food, but pricey. Service was a bit unfriendly and impersonal. Sorry Max’s. I’m a fan, but not of this restaurant stand.

I’ve eaten here a dozen times(I actually grab it and take it on to the plane for a mid-flight meal). I’ve had quite a few sandwiches and they are a little expensive, but they aren’t that bad for an airport. I usually get the wheat bread and find it fresh.

The food here is remarkably poor. At $ 5.99 each, I expected a decent breakfast burrito — at the very least, I expected to fill my stomach with warm food. Instead, I received lukewarm microwaved scrambled eggs, sausage, and cheese wrapped in a cold tortilla. I do not fault the ingredients, only the execution; this burrito was exceedingly difficult to eat and digest. Another 45 seconds in the microwave would have resulted in vast improvements. The servers’ indifference and condescension did not make the bundle of cold ingredients seem more like a burrito. Max’s at SJC failed to meet my(already) low expectations for airport restaurant food and service; however, the experience provided some good laughs and a potential choking hazard.

This place is a godsend. Don’t get me wrong — it’s not that amazing. But to be able to order an actual sandwich from a place that doesn’t fry things or serve cinnabuns or things loaded with partially hydrogenated oils and sugars makes me extremely happy. I was overjoyed with my sandwich, simply because it was real food, not because it was amazing. If I ever find myself in this particular terminal again I will gladly pay $ 10 for one of these. Because no matter how stale the bread is, it’s better for me than McDonalds. Fact.

The horror, the horror. I have actually gotten a good sandwich from Max’s in the past, but my last one had stale bread, tasteless mustard, and the pickles were moldy– seriously. Never again.

$ 9 sandwich tastes like a rock because I chose Dutch bread. If the Dutch bread is not fresh anymore, why do you put there as an option? It’s the worst bread I’ve ever had. I think Dutch should protest against the name Max’s used. I don’t think real Dutch bread tastes like a rock.

Mediocre. The prices are outrageous, but the quality was always good to me. Sucks that cheese is extra.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The Max’s Deli in Terminal A used to be the only reason I looked forward to flying out of SJC. The fact that I could get a reasonably tasty deli sandwich before being crammed in a flying sardine can for hours made me happy. I’ve noticed the quality of the food declining in recent years but it’s really hit a new low for me now. I’m not sure if it was the combination of turkey and roasted peppers(which weren’t squeezed out enough and made the bread soggy — eww!) but my most recent(and last) sandwich there wasn’t good. I didn’t have any gastric distress but let me put it simply: Turkey shouldn’t taste like tuna fish.
