I ordered a 3 item bento box for lunch. Portion wise its great because I had plenty of food left for dinner but quality wise it’s very mehhhhh. The chicken terriyaki was dry and somewhat bitter. The galby was kinda bland and flavorless. The salmon sashimi was the only thing decent. They do give you salad and also miso soup to go so that’s kinda nice. My coworker who got Uno Mas told me she had food envy when she saw what I ordered but I think I was the one who was jealous of her food once I tasted mine. Maybe I’ll order the rolls next time. Those look more promising.

Amazing attention. Super clean. Great prices and the amount of food is crazy good. Great selection of sushi and variety of styles.

The sushi was kind of boring; had to throw tons of wasabi and soy on it to pep up the flavor. Also, as it gets busy, you will have a hard time getting the wait staff’s attention for a water refresh or the bill. I think this used to be a Thai joint and is a vast improvement, but they need to step it up on the flavor.

This is the third time we have come here. They are very average in general when it comes to food. They have a huge selection but this is our third time and its time to find a new place. They keep it very clean and the food it very yummy. The waiter is also always so kind but sometimes the chefs are loud and I don’t like that. Great place for lunch and a casual dinner.

I went there regularly for dinner for 6 months because the food is decent and scratches an itch but the service is inconsistent. My last time there the service was horrible charging me $ 2 for sauce and was difficult to order food. I’ll be going to Yo yo sushi or Sen Dai Sushi from now on.

Don’t come here if you’re looking for some fancy authentic Japanese cuisine. This place is best for corporate employees to come for lunch: fast, good portion, tasty and great value. Lunch bento boxes range from $ 8.50 — $ 10, and it comes with a miso soup, salad(delicious peanut based dressing) and 2 — 3 entrees of choice. So far we know spare ribs, teriyaki chicken and teriyaki salmon are surprisingly good. Sashimi is just so so. We were able to come in and out within 25 minutes! Quick service and great value!

I was craving Japanese but didn’t want to drive down to Japantown, so I tried a place super close to work. Mistake. The food was terrible. I ordered a bento box with salmon nigiri, tempura, & tonkatsu. The tempura was inedible, it was solid and hard. I brought this to the attention of the cooks who were on a break, and to their credit, they made me a fresh batch, but still, it wasn’t much better. Perhaps the food wasn’t fresh and was just sitting under a warmer; I don’t know. i do know I will not be trying them again. Next time I will drive to J-town or just make my craving wait.

I tried the downtown location with the old owners. Was a fan but it was keep going downhill so i stopped visiting that place. I was passing by the express location and decided to give a second chance and found out that they have new owners. Menu seemed the same but the alcohol price went up. Sushi and nigiri are decent. Did try many other Japanese restaurant that are better. The reason why I gave a 4 star is because they were very nice the moment I stepped in and they were kind enough to keep open for about 30 minutes taking late customers who came in while we were eating. I do think I’ll be back for some casual Japanese food.

DELICIOUS! My coworker and I were in the area for business and this place was only about a mile from the hotel we were staying at. The restaurant was a very hospitable environment and our food came out in a timely manner. Our waitress brought us miso soup and complimentary edamame before our meal, while we waited for our large sushi order. The sushi was great and I will definitely come back to this place when I’m in town for business!

I ordered the 49ers and the Chubaka roll. Both were very delicious and I can only recommend! Our server was very sweet and promptly brought us some green tea. I liked the atmosphere and had an overall great time at Okayama Xpress. Prices fit the quality of the food. Looking forward to my next visist! :)

The sushi was amazing! It was our first time there and the staff was beyond friendly. We ordered 3 rolls and it took no time for them to make them. The rolls were huge and really fresh. This place is highly recommended if you are looking for a great sushi place in North San Jose!

Its in the only strip mall on this intersection so easy to find. Walking in, its a small place with a half dozen seating at bar and a few tables. Upon entry, the staff are nice by welcoming us as we enter, though young, but still nice. We ordered: 2 Bento box dinner: Combination of chicken teriyaki, Hamachi, tempura. the other box was beef teriyaki, California rolls, fried scallops. Food was well done, tender, and tasted like it should and expectation of that type of food. The soup had flavor and the salad was fine, with the peanut hint dressing. hot tea — good, hot, tasted a little bark like and nutty as it should be. The meal came out to a little over 40 $ and plenty of left overs as it came with rice and fresh cucumbers sprinkled with some spices. The atmosphere was comfortable and you could talk. Attentive servers. Remember to pick up a take-out menu which lists all their specialty rolls as well. I read the other reviews and reason I went is because I got a 10% discount coupon. My experience was far different than the negative ones. Because of my positive experience, I’ll be going back.

First and foremost I guess I do not understand why the rating here is as low as it is. My guess is that it’s Unilocalers who do not get their hands dirty working in kitchens to understand good food when they see it, then come during a work commute for a sit down meal and take out there frustrations on Unilocal. I personally find this to be the best sushi in San Jose. It is hard nowadays to find some fish that is not slimy and floating on a boat for god knows how long in an uncontrolled temperature. And when that is not available it is a premade california roll that begins to taste like the manufacturing plant the«crab» came from. Though this place seems to provide me with fish lacking the slime, and a different flavor and texture scheme every time I order. Three recommendations I will give, though do not rush the quality. 1. *The Chewbacca roll*: The Asparagus gives it an interesting crunch, and the butane seared hamachi on top sounds weird but adds a very unique and interesting taste to the dish. It comes drizzled with Sarayo and Unagi. 2. *The Under the Sea roll*: This is a simple yet very interesting plate. It is a standard Spicy Tuna roll with cucumber but on top it has freshly made seaweed salad. The seaweed salad adds an overall intensity to the roll, with a delicious flavorful crunch to every bite. The thin sliced lemon on top add a burst of freshness to every roll it is on 3. *The Hawaiian Roll*: Albeit a little sweet with the unagi this dish has so much fish and it all compliments eachother. It is very hard to describe but it works in harmony and not one flavor or texture overpowers the other. The fresh lemon on top adds a punch as well. I hope the cooks here keep the quality going. And apologize for not writing the review sooner.

My office is 2 minutes away from here but not once have I dined here. On a random day I decided to go to Mission College to register and pay for my winter session, I was turned away due to their system being down so I took advantage of the time and went and grabbed lunch. I just discovered sushi /ahi tuna not too long ago so I wanted to cave into my cravings. Be prepared to wait if you go between 11:50AM-12:30PM. If you are eating solo, there’s a great chance you can sit at the bar w/literally no wait however, the wait to order and to get your food can be long. I would not recommend coming here if you are on a time constraint. The bento box won me. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box w/ahi tuna(I think $ 2 extra for it) however, the next time I will not opt for it because the color looked off to me but I judge the food based on looks — I’m shallow when it comes to food. + miso soup was warm and comforting + the chicken teriyaki was tender + the rice was fluffy + the salad was crisp and fresh — the rolls were subpar — ahi tuna was tender but the color looks weird, doesn’t it? — speed was a minor issue Overall. 3 – 3.5 stars. I’d come back if I have a craving during the work hours.

Consistently great sushi. I usually order the Yoda roll. Service is a bit spotty, it’s usually hard to grab a server when you want to pay for your meal.

Apparently, this place didn’t used to be very good when it was known as Honba. It is now called Okayama Xpress… and I’m so glad I happened in on this idle Thursday! I just watched the chef craft what is simply the most incredible scallop nigiri I have ever had the pleasure of eating! High quality ingredients, expertly prepared, and melt in the mouth delicious. The Crabtopia roll was beautifully crafted and quite tasty as well. But the scallop… OMFG, sublime.
