Sushi chef Sam is the best! His sashimi and rolls are a work of art. I had the sashimi lunch and the fish was super fresh and great quality. The blue fin tuna, yellow tail and salmon were exceptional, they just melt in your mouth. Sit at the bar to enjoy great food and a show as you watch Sam delicately slice and prepare veggies, rolls and fresh fish. This is my favorite sushi spot in San Jose, thanks Sam, I’ll be back!!!

This review is long overdue. We’ve been living in the area for 6+ years now. Sushi Okawa has been on our list of go to sushi spots the entire time. Sam, the owner and head sushi chef is wonderful, his staff professi9nal and efficient. The roll selection is vast. And, if u want something different just ask. Sam will surprise you w something new and delicious or he’ll even make up some crazy concoction of your own(w his input, of course). I love everything on the menu. Also, unlike other reasonably priced sushi houses where the sushi is cut quite thin, at Sushi Okawa the sushi is substantial.

Great service as always! Sam and his staff are amazingly friendly and there are always great people to talk to at the sushi bar! Sashimi is always cut beautifully, and of course the rolls are to die for! Definitely my favorite sushi place! For the best dining experience I reccomend the bar if there is available seating :)

My husband & I originally wanted to go to Aqui, but it was packed like sardines, so we decided to eat here. Big mistake. They had a couple open tables, so we didn’t have to wait. This was the only good thing about our experience. Our server didn’t come around for a long time to take our order, and he seemed kind of flustered even though there were 2 – 3 other waiters. I ordered a combination dinner with sashimi and shared a roll with my husband. The first part of my dinner came out & we waited about 15 minutes until my husband’s food came. My sashimi came out about 10 minutes after that & our sushi came out when we were practically done with our food. Eh, what the?!? The table next to us had an older couple. The guy didn’t know his food came with cucumbers in it, and he was allergic to them. There was no mention of it on the menu & instead of quickly taking his food and fixing it, all the waitress said was«Sorry» and laughed it off. What great customer service, right? My tonkatsu was overcooked, and my sashimi didn’t taste fresh. The chef massacred my sashimi. It came out looking like he cut it with a serated knife. There are TONS of other Japanese restaurants to eat it. I would take any fast food place over this restaurant anyday.

Stopped in here absolutely starving. Ordered the sashimi lunch platter and a bunch of different type of rolls. My son got a bento. One of the four types of sashimi was hard and almost scaly. The other three(salmon, tuna and I can’t remember the third type) were passable with the salmon being the best. I didn’t try the regular California rolls that my wife got, but I tried the Birthday roll and the explosion roll(or something like that) and they were bland and dry. The birthday roll was just dry, tasteless. The food came terribly slow. I really won’t be back. It was a very mediocre experience for a $ 100 lunch.
