Conveniently located underneath the Convention Center, this bar tends to be a hot spot after ANY company event. The ambience here is nice and refreshing. It is hip and modern, but the place itself is pretty tiny. All of the staff we encountered were top notch! Super friendly, very attentive, and just genuinely nice! We only sampled the Flat Bread Pizza, but that alone was AMAZING! The crust, cheese, pepperoni, were put together perfectly!!! The crust had a slight crunch to it, and had an awesome fresh doughy aftertaste. I was actually surprised. As simple as it looked, it was probably the best flat bread pizza I’ve had in a long while! Bottom line here folks: Great location, great service, great atmosphere, and GREAT flat bread pizza! Their drinks are overpriced, but I’m sure that just comes with the territory. Would I make a special trip out? Maybe not, BUT I would definitely visit them again if my company decides to hold another event here!

I haven’t written a negative review in a long time. Hell, I haven’t Unilocal’d in a long time. I am compelled tonight to write about my horrible experience at Tanq. Full disclosure: we’ve been here a lot. My husband works in the same building, We live not far away. Tanq has been, up until tonight, one of our go-to places. Tonight was different. We had a new server, Daniel. Most horrible service ever. Literally ever. My husband works in tourism for San Jose, I am a consumer of places to drink in San Jose. We were ignored, we were treated rudely, worst service ever in San Jose. Do NOT go here when Daniel«Sao Paolo, Brazil» is working.

We waited at least 15mins(no exaggeration we checked the time after sitting for sometime then checked the time we left) for service before we walked out. We were sitting front and center at the bar and even made eye contact with the bartender and wait staff several times and no one said ANYTHING to us at any point. I tried to get someone’s attention but staff was busy flirting with a patron. It was very frustrating and alienating to be the only ones in an establishment to not be getting service and to be FLATOUTIGNORED! I had tried to visit this bar once before and experienced rude service(if you can call it service) that time as well. I would NOT recommend this place. Go to Hotel De Anza is you are looking for a good [hotel] bar.

Daniel the bartender is horrible. His drinks were not made correctly, he has no personality, & he never asked us if we needed anything else. Will never go there again!!!

It was nice just nothing exceptional. The bar food was reasonably priced but the drinks were a little pricey but I guess that goes with being a hotel bar attached to a convention center. Our bartender was very nice but seemed a little stressed by all the conventioneers. I ordered the Cucumber Tanq which came out all fancy, with a design in the frothing on top like a Starbucks latte. It was tasty but again, at $ 12 seemed more like a night club price for the drink. We ordered a bevy or bar bites and I had the lobster roll which was good but not great and the duck fat fries which tasted just like regular fries to me. We had a hummus plate as well which came with a big bowl of olives, and the marghuerita pizza which was also ok. It wasn’t a horrible experience but after getting the bill, it just seemed a little expensive for a pair of comic book needs at a convention to endure. Probably good for the regular conventioneer there for business or some such expo.

The drinks are fine, the bartenders are fine, the ambiance was… questionable. This bar looks at first glance like the kind of place I usually like: clean and sophisticated without being snobby or overpriced. They aren’t cheap – the drinks are priced just slightly over some of the other nearby bars, but it isn’t enough of a difference that it would be a deterrent to me. The style and the sound did not match at all, so the ambiance was weird. The music was stuff like One Direction(I think) and young teenager pop. Which is fine in a club or something. But in a place where effort has been made to look a little classy, it is bizarre, and not what I was there to hear.

Stopped by Sunday January 17 for a later lunch while there for a volleyball tournament. Service was very slow, and actually the manager was tending the bar. Ordered a burger that took over 40 minutes to come out, and we had 2 beers. Manager then says he will comp the burger for the poor service, but I get the check a bit later with the burger still on it. Manager states he will remove it and presents me with another check with no burger(and 1 more beer we ordered). I pay this bill and leave. Later in the month I get my credit card statement, and I see that the original check was never cancelled! SO now I get billed twice for the same visit, instead getting comped for their poor service. To top it off that added a 18% TIP to the check that was supposed to be cancelled. Needless to say I filed a dispute with my credit card company. And guess what Marroitt now keeps claiming that I need to pay both checks, I keep requesting to see where I signed for both receipts. Long story short, I will NEVER go back here again, and I recommend anyone stoppin by to double check your check as well as your credit card statements, for double billing and also TIPS that just gets tagged on. All this for average at best food and drinks. Let’s just say you are warned. Not sure if this is a tend in SJ downtown these days.

A busy Saturday night at Tanq and I and my other three were sitting at the bar. There were two bartenders, women, and both were paying attention to the other side of the bar, several of the patrons appearing to be friends of theirs. We sat for ten minutes and I finally called out that we’d like to get service. One of the bartenders acknowledged that she’d be with us in a minute and went back to talking to her friends, both bartenders pouring drinks for their friends. We waited another five minutes, both bartenders ignoring the north side of the bar, and us, and finally we left, headed to Vyne, instead, for better service and undoubtedly, a better atmosphere.

Best wedge salad in the bay. Kobe sliders are average. Weird that they have young kids doing the bus and delivery work at the bar. All in all pretty good food and they had my buckeye football game on. We might come back.

I haven’t even been here but after reading Joseph O MDs review of this establishment I feel compelled to give it 5 five stars because he seems like a supreme douchebag(he’s a MD so he knows what that feels like.) Zing! Yo, Joey O, eat poop.

A spot at the hotel for an after dinner drink and social interaction, The ambiance is casual and the large bar makes it easier to navigate the acquisition of a drink… The wine list is not what I would expect from a place so near the center of such great wines, and the price of the upscale wines makes it difficult to have a decent glass of wine at a reasonable price. The French fries with the dips are great… Good and efficient service. Tip at 20%

All Unilocalers, please be aware that Joseph O.‘s review about this business is very biased and one sided. I have been to this bar countless times and have never encountered any issues. The staff are all very friendly and professional. They even can make shift a drink for you if you’re undecided of what to order. No one looks like a «meth-head» as Joseph O. states. Quite frankly his statement is rude and his impatience got the best of him. Back to the business, the place is lit in beautiful blue lights so it’s hard to miss. Bartenders are attentive and do their best to get to every customer regardless of how rude they can get. They have a DJ on Saturday nights but always have the top 40s playing the rest of the week. Come here and experience this place for yourself. You’ll meet great people and get great drinks.

Wow, I don’t even recognize this place. They have brought east San Jose right into downtown. I live a few blocks away in Naglee Park, so this has been a go-to place for a good martini ever since Marriott turned a lobby into a bar. Popped in on 10-04-2104 for a drink after the theater at 9:30. Drink was mediocre, but then when I tried to get the attention of the bartender, a dyed-blonde meth-head looking cocktail waitress gave me the«wait-a-minute» finger because they were in the middle of a conversation.(Screw the customers, right?). When they finished gossiping, they both walked away. Needless to say it got more ghetto from there. Sadly the staff is not what it was. We left with the inappropriate and inebriated blonde cocktail girl screaming. So disappointed that a favorite spot has been ruined by poor management. Joseph O’Hara MD

Its a really cool bar, good service, nice lounge. Decently priced menu, but the Quesadilla I ordered had a slight bitter taste. Im guessing they squeezed a bit too much of the lime. It looked really delicious with all the sauces and all by the side, but tasted bitter. I would still give it a second chance and go try their sliders. Until then a 3 star review remains.

My friends stays here for the whole weekend at the Marriott Hotel every year for the Face & Body Show. We decided to meet at Tanq after the event(regretful decision). Even though I clearly stated to our waitress Courtney that I wanted a separate bill that will include me and my two other friends(we had a party of 7) Courtney was not attentive and did not charge accordingly with our separate checks. One thing I’ve learned from this experience is to — Do not keep a credit card open tab here at Tanq. I found out later that evening when I got home that there were two separate charges on my card. I had signed for one but the other separate/bill charge is still a mystery. I talked to the manager Kevin, he advised me not to worry, said to wait till Monday then to give him a call after confirming with my bank about the extra charge… Weird? Never ever coming back to Tanq.

3⁄5: Since The World Cup is going on in Brazil, I was craving a caipirinah: $ 7. It’s OK, but not nearly as good as the ones at Cascal in Mountain View. 4.5÷5: But the lobster corn dogs are excellent: Great flavor on the inside, and the coating. Perfectly fried. Maybe not quite enough«real lobster» flavor for the filling, which is also heavy on the salt, otherwise it would be 5⁄5. The online menu is out of date. Here’s the latest:

Soooooo… here’s what happened: I was at a dance competition over the weekend which was taking place directly across the street from Tanq Bar. On Sunday afternoon, I ran in and ordered chips/salsa and a quesadilla and told them I was in a hurry. The manager and bartender said no problem, rang it in and there was no issue. The bartender brought my bill: $ 15.23 – fine, I handed him $ 20 and a quarter. That was the last I saw of my check or money. I was expecting $ 5 change, to which I would’ve left $ 3 without hesitation. The bartender started to get busy and while I sat there with my wallet out waiting, there was never a moment where I was able to politely asked for my change. He left(probably to check on my order) and moments later the manager appeared and placed my bag next to me and quickly walked back out of the bar without saying anything. If I wasn’t already looking in his direction, I would not have seen him place the bag down. I actually thought I had done something wrong for a second – was he mad at me??? I was in such a hurry that I left and thought to myself, «well I guess I’m tipping a little extra today!» Is this the end of the world? NO. Was it an honest mistake? I am sure it was. The quesadilla was really good and the service was speedy. I actually would love to give Tanq Bar more stars, but a mistake is still a mistake. I always tip 20% and actually have no problem with tipping above that. It’s just that I would prefer tipping be left up to my discretion and not error or circumstance.

The lobster roll has haunted me ever since I tried it. It was pure perfection and if only I could have one everyday my life would be complete. The lavender martini was good as well. Pricy happy hour but worth it if you’re looking for good food and drinks.

Aquarium themed bar in the Marriott with cocktails are in the $ 11 – 13 range. I liked the vibe and décor. Food was mixed. I was looking for a snack and got the hummus($ 8) which came with pita and vegetable crudite( ). Presentation was good, but the hummus was Super SALTY and I’m an admitted salt-a-holic… The bartender was very friendly and when I told him about the salt issue he said they could redo it or replace it with something different. I went with the Mini Roasted Turkey Club(blurry pic ) which was the same price. This was very good and leaps and bounds better than the hummus, though with the hotel bar prices you’re pretty much getting maybe ½ a sandwich for your $ 8. Go with someone on an expense account and be wary of the food :)
