Why the1 star right? Well I have been here at least 12 times and while the food has always been good, the service has left a lot to be desired. My last trip here I only tipped the cooks because the waitress lost all right to any tip. Today the restaurant has 9 people(guests) in total(6) tables with mine and 3 waitresses but still no service. WTF is going on here? One more try before I stop coming…

This place has gone downhill fast! The waitress at this location is rude as hell, not to mention every time I eat there they mess up my order. I have grown up in Willow Glen and have always promoted this restaurant but lately even thinking about the food grosses me out. The service, the food, and it’s dirty in there… I’m no longer a fan!

Favorite date spot with my husband. Food is so delicious. Staff is super friendly. Atmosphere is fun. A lot of couples and families. We had family come into town and we took them for lunch. Had a great time, toasted a few good memories, and ate some yummy food. Three San Jose locations and we have enjoyed all!

Definitely a mixed review. The ambiance is very real, like Mexico. The food is quite good, and the Chavelas are excellent. However, the service can be extremely-uneven, surly, and sometimes faintly racist.

Only good thing about this place is the decent SJ water they give. Chips are super greasy but the salsa wasn’t too bad. Ordered the tamale(small and covered with red sauce), enchilada(decent taste), and taco(tastes and look like something you can get at Taco Bell or better). Beans and rice were the best things on that plate. Service was decent. Overall, probably will not come here again, perhaps its other locations might be better.

Hole in the wall! Food was excellent. The menu said no substitutions. They made special considerations for my boys! Very good experience. We will be back!

My last experience here at this restaurant was not good, but that was years ago. I had an urge for Mexican food without driving to the East Side of San Jose where there are great Mexican restaurants. I now know why I stopped coming to this restaurant: * Walked in tonight(Sunday) and there was no one to greet us. We waited for about 10 minutes until someone noticed us and took us to a table next to the pick up window of the restaurant. We asked to be moved to another table. * Restaurant seemed unclean and the exposed walls showing the kitchen should have been covered. The kitchen did not look clean at all. We should have turned and walked out at that point, but wanted to give it another go. * It was training night and a young lady was so nice, but her«trainer» seeming did not have any people skills. She was abrupt and had a bit of an attitude. I was still looking at my menu when she came and asked us if we were ready to order, but I was still reading the menu. I told her to give us more time. * When she took my order, I simply asked for a taco and tostada with rice and beans. It took a while for the order to arrive and I was served a tostada with a cold and soggy tortilla shell and a taco half filled. I asked her(the trainer now) about my rice and beans and she rudely asked me if I ordered it. Of course I did, otherwise, I wouldn’t be asking for it. * She finally brought my rice and beans, but I just couldn’t eat the tostada. I took some lettuce and topping from the soggy tostada and used it to fill my taco. I did eat that. and I left the tostada shell on the plate. * When she came to pick up our plates, she did not even ask us how everything was. I would have politely told her, but I guess she knew, and, frankly, did not seemed like she even cared. * There was a lot of standing around and talking. We waited awhile after we were done with our meal to get our bill. And, when she picked it up, she asked if we wanted change. I sure wasn’t going to give her a $ 10.00 tip for the crappy service and food. If you’re reading this post, I tried to give this restaurant a second chance, but it fell way too short. If I could give it a «zero» star rating I would have.

I have been standing in the please wait to be seated section for 6 mins plus. No one has said a word to me. All I need is a menu to place a to go order. I give it 4 mins before I’m leaving. Just moved down the street and was excited to find a frequent taqueria spot. So far not looking promising :(…3 mins later I was asked rudely«only you?» *insert heavy sigh*…yep just need a menu… Thanks. Not sure I’ll be back based on the service alone. Lets see how the food is…

Horrible service/attitudes from the waitresses for sit in or take out. I tried both… Food is a far cry from authentic, more of an assembly line set up. I can’t bring myself to go back here to the Lincoln location. Parking sucks to, a few spots out front, walk or your SOL. They charge for extra chips and salsa now, whole lotta nope going on there. Only plus is they are fast with serving the food most of the time. So if all my options are not appealing, I go to the other location down the street on Curtner. Unfortunately their service is just as bad… Hit or miss basically. Good luck!

Have eaten here a few times and I enjoyed both the food and atmosphere. The prices are modestly priced, which is a HUGE plus. I most also add that their customer service is exemplary and is more than a few steps above other local eaters of this type(stay clear of La Victoria Taqueria on Alamden Expressway. Terrible, greasy and unhealthy food that is made all the more undesirable by unwarranted and rude customer service.) Eat with confidence!

Good food, fast seating, small environment, poor service. Parking not too bad, poor service! The drinks are good, poor service! The vibe is not bad at all, poor service! Carne asada burrito is hella good but like I have mentioned, not the greatest service!

This is another very popular Willow Glen spot that serves decent Mexican food. The things I’ve had, Chimichanga, Camarones Diablo, and a couple of appetizers are all really good. The star of the show here seems to be the Super Chavela. There is literally at least 2 on every table upon a quick glance. They are good but not special. They also boast a 2 Chavela per patron policy, giving the impression that these are Hulk Smash drinks. They aren’t. Very busy place with ok food. Worth a try.

As we only live around the corner you would think just swing by get a steak burrito to go. Well no i got home and start eating and realize steak is more of a garnish not the main ingredient.!! They do not do refunds on «half eaten» portions???

Went here this morning with the boyfriend after him telling me how amazing this place was. He recommended the chorizo which I ordered(chorizo breakfast burrito) We sat down as we walked in and was served water and chips and salsa. Salsa was OK somewhat spicy. It was not the best. waitress finally came over and took our order then brought our waters over. Finally after 15 minutes our food was served. We had no forks and napkins and had to wave someone down to bring us silverware. Anyways as for the food. I liked it but it wasn’t specultular how my boyfriend and other people described it. I was somewhat disappointed. We both waited for our water to be refilled and no one came by to check on us and ask if everything was well or if we needed anything. Even my boyfriend tried to wave down the waitress as she passed by to get a refill of water and she didn’t even stop to look or ask how we were doing. Finally 10 minutes later she comes back with a check and boyfriend said I need a refill on water. Finally she brings water over. My boyfriend said he was very surprised to see the service has gone down hill and no one was very attentive. It such a shame because I was expecting a lot more and better service from this place. It even took us 15 minutes to wait for our waitress to swipe the check and bring it back over. We will def not be going back to this place and they have lost a customer for sure…

I’m writing this while I wait for my 3rd request for chips & salsa. I’ve been coming here for a decade now. Not sure what happened. Guess I’m switching to Puerto Azul up the street. It’s not even that busy. Sad

I am a die hard fan of Tlaquepaque’s; that said, they have gone down hill in the past few months. The prices of drinks have doubled in the last three years. The Chevelas is now over $ 10 each(with tax and 15% tip). Come on… it is lime juice, beer and a shot of Jose’ Quervo. The menu prices are not consistent with what comes out on the bill nor are they the same from menu to menu. The portion size is inconsistent from day to day, but, generally much smaller. The super burrito is more of a sorta swell burrito now. They are closed at strange times: Tuesday and Wednesday. Think about this from a business stand point; your door are closed to your customers 3 months out of the year(2 days per week * 52 weeks = 104 days) The food quality has remained fantastic. I love the flavor. I’ll keep coming back… just less often and much less drinking.

If service was better this place is definitely 5 stars from me. I’ve heard about this place from so many people and finally was able to try. Probably they know how popular they are that’s why they could care less for service. I’ve heard this place gets very busy but luckily it wasn’t bad. It seems everyone is in a bad mood and hate all customers. The Camarones, Super Tacos, and the SUPER CHAVELAs were amazing!!!

This place has been on the list for a while. Recently ran into a friend who recommended it too. Even during late afternoon there’s quite the wait. Got the carne en su jugo, steak Tlaquepaque and some horchata. Chips and salsa in the beginning are good. Steak has good flavor but is lukewarm. Beans and rice are ok. The carne has bacon and some spice kick but not as flavorful as the steak. I have to admit im a bit underwhelmed. Really wanted a Torta Ahogada initially but they dont do it. Guess ill have to keep looking for a serious Guadalajaran place

First let me say… again I chickened out on ordering the Chavellas ! One day! For some reason every time we come here… the door experience sucks but the rest of it is awesome. They are always super busy so maybe that’s why they always look mad at anyone walking in. We always tip 25% and over and say Thank you and understand they are super busy. We are never in a hurry anyway ! Our waitress this time was Marabell? Not sure of spelling. She was excellent. She was attentive and had a beautiful smile. As busy as she was she checked on us quite often! I can never ever complain about the good here. I order something different every time and it’s always delicious! Which is why they are always super busy! All in all a great place to eat! Ps to the waitress on the phone with the blonde hair that was taking the long order !!! Your awesome ! Thanks for putting up with the funny faces !!
