This place is ALWAYS closed when we go. It’s so irritating! There has been at least 4 different occasions at different times, and they’re always closed! I hate this place so much right now.

As a regular patron. Of the Lincon av. Location. I visited curtner Av. Location. Well this location is going down hill. Waited for way to long over 30mn. For Chilaquiles. When they finally bring them out. With no sauce. So I ask where the sauce? We make them dry!!! And we have a new cook! Me: It’s Chilaquiles red or green. He forgot the green sauce. Waitress: Let me ask him. No this is how we make them. Me: thanks… Thinking in my head«can’t argue with crazy» This location has gone down hill. I keep coming back but this did it for me. Adiós!!!

Wow. After all the hype go somewhere else. One cook so all food is 30 min. I got enchiladas to go and I saw the cook put it in the microwave in the to go box? Not sure what he was doing. Margarita was beyond gross. Cheap tequila and sugar. Had to wait 20 min for someone to help me. I had to ask for chips and salsa. An employee came in and her friend fell asleep all over a table for 4. And of course no one was cleaning tables until someone needed seating. Lock your doors. Keep your money close. The area is shady. Even a poster saying if your stuff gets stolen they are not responsible. Park where you can see your car. People smoking weed in the parking lot. Guys waiting for to go order just starring. Super creepy area. I would try a different location.

I think their food is above-average compared to the other Mexican fare in this area.(6.5 out of 10). What I don’t like is they never answer their phone. Because I live nearby I like to call my order in for pick-up and by the time I arrive then I don’t have to wait long(it takes them a lot longer than other nearby establishments to cook their food; frankly a burrito should only take 5 — 10 minutes at most to construct). They have weird hours that are not posted and I have wasted at least 1 or 2 trips because they were closed which has caused me to avoid going there without calling first. Super Taqueria is nearby and they get more of by business even though I rate their food just below Tlaquepaque(6 out of 10) because at least I know they will be open and fast. Ironically, I wrote this review just before I called Tlaquepaque and sure enough no answer. I’m going to Super T for dinner tonight.

The salsa… is soooooo good. A very quaint place that is small in seating but good on taste. Have a beer as you relax from a hard day and enjoy the fact you can see the kitchen prepping the food in front of you… a full fledged xhipolte if you will. An a fan and will continue to be a regular.

I started writing this today while we were waiting for our food. this is specific to store #3 Sitting here and have waited 25 minutes for a bean tostada and a plate of enchiladas. I ask what’s going on with our food and the waitress says it’s coming out right now and that they only one cook. It’s since been another 10 minutes. Instead of me having to ask and now Unilocal as I sit here due to my frustration, why didn’t you warn me and let me know that my food would take forever, so that I could decide if I am willing to wait a bit longer than usual? No acknowledgement had been given to our table about our order coming out and how much longer it would take. I’m so done that I just want to leave. I will never step foot in here ever again. Lastly, why is there is a 2″ cockroach crawling in your light fixture??? See picture!

I really enjoyed eating at this place, but I started to notice that their service sucks and the food is mediocre. The location is nice, but loud. Most Mexican restaurants now days are doing what this place use to only do. One positive –The chavelas are an A+, I won’t take that away from them.

Walked in. Place stinks like the sewer. Should’ve left at that point. Put our name down on the clip board. Waited about 20 minutes then I hear a «2PEOPLE!!» and look up and the«waitress» is waving at us to go sit down. We go to the table that she is cleaning and she says, «NONOTHEREOVERTHERE!» Wow. Are we your children? This was the heavier set waitress that wears her hair up. Then we get our waitress, the thin one that rolls her eyes and speaks really low. My mom asked her what comes in the super taco and she says very quickly, «SOURCREAMANDAVOCADOONLYDIFFERENCE!» Another Wow. Came time to order something to go for our kids and our waitress left us for about 10 minutes without coming back so we waved over the heavy set one and she asked what we would like to-go and when I proceeded to tell her she said, «OHNO, LETMEGETYOURWAITRESS, I’M NOTYOURWAITRESS!» AGAINWOW. Not coming back. So Rude.

Ordered ahead, ordered a super burrito got there pick up my order paid 19 dollars for 2 burritos and xl orchata. The burritos were super small. The green salsa they gave had a piece of chipped paint with rust in it. Gagged, threw my food away end of story. Fuck this place.

Owner needs to fix this place. We’ve been going here for years and its been sliding-I likely won’t come back again. I saw the Health department score was 52 out of 100 but I’ve seen inspections go bad quickly and the restaurant turn it around, but this place seems to just be sliding into a ditch. While we were there I saw the cook drop his tongs on the floor then pick them up and flip food without even wiping them off(should have washed them) and the waitress wiped her nose on the back of her hand. Real basic food safety. When we walked in the speakers were blaring loud enough that the waitress asked us to repeat ourselves. I asked if she could turn it down so I could talk with my wife at the table. She seemed to indicate yes, but the music blared on Our food was finally up… but the waitress was in back moving dishes in and out of the dishwashing station. Eventually the other waitress brought our food to us, still fairly warm(the beans hold heat well but there was almost no cheese on them), and ultimately the food continues to be tasty. But the staff is missing the basics that any good manager would address. For years there has always been a wait. The last few visits we’ve had no trouble getting a table immediately, and I can see why. The owner needs to pay attention to fixing this place before it dies or customers start getting sick. Its sad to see it slip so far.

My new go-to Mexican food spot! Order five of those small tacos and a couple of super chavelas and you’re set for the night! Come hungry with the homies who are ready to drink and this place comes through in the clutch. The employees are very helpful, refills waters, food comes quickly and comes out fresh!

This place can get crowded, which makes getting a table a little annoying, but even more annoying is how LOUD the dining room gets. Bring your megaphone if you want to have a conversation with the person next to you. The food is good; consistent and authentic. The chile rellenos are amazing, but beware because that plate comes out hotter than the surface of the sun. Portions are enormous and they aren’t shy with their cheese. The salsa they start you with isn’t wimpy, they pack some heat in there. The drinks aren’t as strong as the salsa, but they are decent. Skip the sangria… it tasted like a pitcher of blended prune juice and ice. I haven’t had a problem with service, they send food out pretty quickly and our waiters have been attentive and friendly… at least from the few words I can actually hear them saying. Prices are a little on the high-side for casual family dining. But overall this place is solid and worth a visit.

So as other reviewers have mentioned, the service here leaves alot to be desired. It took 10 minutes of standing next to the ‘wait to be seated’ sign before anyone acknowledged my existence. Another 5 to get a table, and 5 more after that before a waitress stopped by. Oh, and no draft beer. Only bottles But, this is legit Mexican food. Best I’ve had in NorCal. I had a cheese enchilada/chili relleno combo and everything was good. The chips were crisp and thick. And the house salsa rocks!

I couldn’t believe my eyes! They now charge you for chips and salsa! Great food otherwise, but I’ve never heard of a Mexican restaurant that charges for chips and salsa.

Don’t come here expecting speedy service. There’s 1 waitress/waiter for every 10 people it seems. But… Who cares— just enjoy your company. Chavelas are amazing. Food is pretty damn good. I guarantee anyone that has given this place 1 star still eats here religiously. #hatersssssssss lol.

I never would have known about this hidden place if it weren’t for my SO’s mom. She told us they had the best tacos around so we had to give them a try. This place is located in the same plaza as Jack In The Box, right across from a church and freeway 87 S. It could easily be missed. I really had to look for it. When we arrived there was a bit of a wait but got seated within 10 mins. The waitress was friendly but didn’t speak much English so there was kind of a language barrier. There was complimentary chips and salsa while waiting for our food. I decided to get one of each taco: pork, chicken, and carne asada. They really were the best tacos I’ve ever had. Warm soft tortilla, well cooked and plentiful meat, and very filling. I couldn’t even finish all three. My only complaint is that it was a little dry. We tried to ask for some sauces but the waitress didn’t understand us. A little salsa or verde sauce would have made the tacos 10x better. I saw a lot of other people with these huge drinks that looked delicious, but it was only 12pm and I didn’t feel like drinking yet, but next time definitely! I look forward to coming back any time I’m in the mood for some authentic tacos.

Best part about Tlaquepaque… the super chavelas! and the chips/salsa…they always bring out a fresh basket right when you sit down and the salsa is just the right amount of spicy! So if you’re looking for a spot for a cold one, this is it! However, the food itself is very subpar… nothing about it truly stands out and although it isn’t bad, you can find a lot better. Pricing isn’t ridiculous or over the top by any means, but for a sit down restaurant, I feel that the food can be a whole lot better! Especially when so many taco trucks and grab and go taquerias in San Jose serve up some KILLER food! This location is TINY too… there are no more then 10 tables or so, most likely if you come during dinner time… you will end up waiting. I would always expect to wait, so if you’re super hungry and want to sit down right away… I highly suggest you go somewhere else! A solid 3 stars for Tlaquepaque… great beers/chips/salsa…okay food… odd ambiance! its decent you can find better! But it’s usually our go to spot if we’re craving chavelas!
